Top Chef Season 16, Episode 8: ‘Whatever Floats Your Boat’ Recap | Eater

"Set on a lake touted as the houseboat capital of the world, this two-day boat-party challenge pits a fun-loving, party-first crew against a stressed, perfectionist team aboard two houseboats outfitted with compact home kitchens and hot tubs. Captains from a yachting reality show greeted the chefs and showed them around, and judges Tom Colicchio and Emeril Lagasse later boarded to taste. The winning team focused on crowd-pleasers — shucking Alabama oysters, plating watermelon salad, frying walleye, serving shrimp rolls, batching a gelatin-based “jiggle juice” (Maker’s Mark, peach‑mint tea and gelatin) and handing out Key lime “puppy chow” favors — and earned the guests’ votes; Kelsey’s oysters with watermelon mignonette were singled out as the night’s best dish. The other boat struggled with a power outage and a poorly cooked porchetta (described as tasting like honey-baked ham), cold portions and some dishes that didn’t suit a cocktail-party setting, resulting in that team’s chef being sent home. Overall the location highlighted the contrast between party-focused, crowd-pleasing cooking and precision-driven, perfectionist cuisine, with atmosphere and guest appeal deciding the outcome." - Greg Morabito

Awesome lake beautiful and picturesque. So large 1000's of people can be on the lake and you will not see another boat all day. Beautiful waterfalls, great little crannies to explore.

Lake Cumberland is Heaven on Earth. Home away from home. 76 Falls is absolutely breathtaking. I highly recommend spending a weekend there with the family for creating life long memories. It will probably become your new favorite home away from home as well.

Kentucky finest lake Wolf Creek Dam and the trout fish hatchery are a must see The hatchery has a stream for trout fishing that travels down to meet the Cumberland river The lake is deep where it meets the Dam There is public access at the dam from Holcombs landing The lake has a vast steep shore line with many creeks ending in small water falls. Fishermen visit Both sides of the Dam. The dam is a great area to swim Cool deep water Weekends too crowded and too many boaters making rough waters. The state lodge has always offered Marina services lodging with balconies and views of the lake and sunsets and a restaurant with a great view and good food Visit the dam at sunset and see the mist and the magic of the dam at night

If you have never visited the Lake Cumberland Wolf Creek Dam or the Fish Hatchery then you are over due for a unique experience. They have open to the public for viewing and often feeding the large stock pools of young fish at the hatchery. Next door sits the tourist center with aquariums of fish, insects, reptiles, exhibits and even a friendly skunk. Prior to covid they held all year long different events and work shops for the public often extremely cheap or free! They also hold the annual fishing derby for children and whomever when they release the fish into the river. They make it extremely inclusive with puddling pools for the little tikes and used to provide several fishing poles to be used on site. It’s untelling the changes with covid, but in time these events should return to normal. Surrounding the fish hatchery is the river flowing just off of the dam, there are several boat access and a camping ground on the waters edge. There’s a play ground and often a vendor open with food and drinks. This is a fun packed stop that won’t begin to break the bank. Put the hatchery and river camping grounds on a to do for your future stops and bring the critters and kids. It’s animal friendly too!

We went in the water at Lily Creek ... Beautiful area. Only one boat at a time so depending when you go there might be a line to get in or out of the lake with your boat.

Beautiful lake. Only disappointment was the lack of beaches for small children to play on. But we still had a great time on/in the lake.
