The Best Restaurants and Bars in Sunriver, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Set alongside Obsidian Lake, patio dining at the Lake House attracts families who walk up to eat indoors or paddle up to the beach and dock for excellent gastropub offerings. Chef de cuisine Krista Matheis prepares a menu of unique flavor combinations like the baked brie in an iron skillet slathered with housemade orange marmalade and a surprise zinger of poblano chile. Don’t miss the juicy pork chop with peach compote and bourbon to temper its sweetness. Groups of four to six can savor the wings trio bathed in buttermilk which keeps them impressively tender. Before joining the Lake House, Matheis cut her teeth as executive sous chef at the Lodge Kitchen." - Barb Gonzalez

Love this place had such a good experience. The server was amazing. The food was amazing and they even mail out a cute little postcard to any family or friend of your choice so you could brag about how beautiful it is there and how much fun you’re having and you wish we were there with you. I will definitely go back there 10 more times.!

Google
The food was amazing!!! I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes, bison burger, salmon chowder and salmon sandwich! Everyone was very attentive and very nice. I did notice that they seemed short staffed as there was a table next to us that was not bussed the whole time we were there (over an hour). Michael was a great server!!! The atmosphere and vibe was really chill and sophisticated without being snobby. Can’t wait to go back!!

We were wandering the Village in Sunriver and decided to go elsewhere for lunch. We drove down to the Lake House and had a great experience. McKinley was our server and she was super friendly and welcoming. We shared a Bison Burger and it was delicious. My wife had a Aperol Spritz which I tasted and it was spot on. This new restaurant has a gorgeous building and the outside patio and grounds are spectacular. Yes, the menu is currently a bit limited but all of the staff were professional and treated us as first class guests. Thank you for a lovely lunch. We do recommend you visit the Lake House.

Our evening at The Lake House AMAZING ...patio setting on the lake at Sunset was gorgeous. The food beautifully plated and excellent, Chef Christa is gifted. We look forward to returning to enjoy more food and picturesque atmosphere.

We’ve stayed at Caldera multiple times and eaten at the lake house a few times before. Today we unfortunately had a bad experience. I made a reservation for my family and specifically noted we needed a handicap accessible table. That was not initially accommodated so they had us waiting for another table to be set up. When we finally sat down we ordered our drinks and then it took about 20 minutes just to get those. Then we finally ordered and waited over an hour and a half for our food. It was not very busy so I don’t understand how it took as long as it did. Additionally the waiter was mostly absent and not attentive. Lastly do not order the crab cakes. We were told they were a pretty good size and then they came out and were no larger than two golf balls for $28.

Melanie was absolutely amazing! She gave us the menu rundown and some recommendations. Food was prompt and good, and we enjoyed a few cocktails as well. After dinner she offered up the s'mores by the campfire, was an all around great evening and lovely setting watching the sunset. We’ll be back — thank you Melanie!

I didnt get a chance to experience this location during the day but ..The food was beyond amazing. My go to cut is rib eye medium rare and the New Yourk strip steak and waffle fries were amazing when i do not like new york strip. Aioli, and chimmichurri butter, amazing desert and near perfect service. This is a place to visit for sure. Can't wait to visit again to try something new on the menu or whatever the chef dares to serve. The cheesecake and chocolate torte are also amazing. Be sure to check out the desert menu. Order it to go if you've had enough.

Although the food and atmosphere are amazing, the customer service is what stood out. We originally had a reservation to sit outside, but staff called earlier that day to confirm where we wanted to sit due to unexpectedly hot weather. This was excellent attention to detail that is just one example of the excellent service — we hadn’t even walked into the restaurant yet. Our waitress, Sarah, was friendly and helped us in suggesting items from the menu. She also helped take a photo of our family, taking photos from a few different angles to capture good lighting. She went above and beyond. For the appetizers, we shared the crab cakes and the corn dip. Both were delicious. The crab cakes were especially tasty, since they weren’t filled with mostly bread crumbs. These were FULL of crab. 😋 For my meal, I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Like the appetizers: delicious. Don’t get me started on the waffle fries. For dessert, we all shared the s’mores skillet. I’ve never had a treat quite like this. It was perfect sharing size and, as you may expect, delicious. I would highly recommend eating here. It was a highlight of our family trip to Sunriver!

Yelp
Wow! What a beautiful dinner spot. My cousin picked out this place and it was absolutely perfect. We somehow got seating outside right on the lake at sunset. It was STUNNING! With the ambiance, it was probably one of my favorite dinners. Our server was great as well! The bar was taking a bit with our drinks, but she did come over and let us know that she was on it. I love when servers do that, so good on her. They were also pretty darn busy so I fully understood why. The drink I ordered was delicious and refreshing. I really wish I remembered the name but it was something with cucumber and basil and probably gin. It was delicious. To start, I tried some of the fried green tomatoes. They were pretty tasty! I liked the sauce it came with as well. To eat, I really wanted some pasta, but I wanted some summer pasta that was a little more light. And I was just in luck! The summer pappardelle was perfect! I don't love mushrooms so I got it without that, and it was sooo good. There was definitely a lot of asparagus added to it, but still it was a really delicious summer pasta that was light and didn't make me feel disgustingly full. I'd for sure recommend this place to anyone visiting Sunriver. It was a beautiful dinner location and if you're lucky to get a spot right on the water, it's perfection and absolutely stunning.

Yelp
We ate there with the family recently. Our family couldn't decide on what to eat, so appetizers for everyone! It seems like you can't eat anywhere at Sunriver Resort without a pile of waffle fries (a good thing). We enjoyed the hummus platter. The corn dip was good, but not outstanding.

Yelp
This is the best meal I've had in a good long while. We sampled a lot of dishes and they were great to amazing. The crab cakes (2 for $28) were pure bliss and heavy on the crab. The corn salad and beet salads were well crafted, fresh, and delicious. The salmon chowder cup ($12) was another can't miss/would order again. Add in the view of the lake from the patio and it was a beautiful evening 5/5. I hope to make this an annual tradition when we visit Sunriver.

Yelp
The Lake House is absolutely the BEST place to visit in Sunriver. The food is to die for, many yummy options on the menu to pick from. The view and the ambiance is fabulous. Emma our waitress took such good care of us :) I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant:)

Awesome salad and salmon. Great French fries. Wonderful setting and service. Will go again!

Yelp
The Lake House was hard to get a reservation this holiday, even with the snowy weather, but after finally snagging one, I can see why! The interior is beautifully decorated with high windows that I believe would host a beautiful view had the sun been out. Service is friendly even with the difficulty fitting everyone who wants a reservation each night. Food was fresh and great portions that saved well for lunch the next day. Everything was seasonally appropriate for the harvest and specials and made the whole meal feel festive. I can't wait to see what the Lake House can offer in the spring, summer, and fall as well!

Yelp
We went to the Lake House for our 25th anniversary and Sara, our server, made it very special. She is one of our all time favorite servers. The food and cocktails were great, with a view of the lake in a beautiful comfortable setting. We'll be back soon! Bob and Diana

Yelp
This is the best place to eat in Sunriver! Staff was friendly, the views are gorgeous, and the food was delicious. We want to come back again on our same trip cause the food is so good. The salmon was so delicious I wanted ti lick my plate. This beats any other Sunriver resort restaurant by far! Highly recommend. It is nice but not stuffy, and the views are really to die for. We will be back on every trip!

Yelp
Best food we had in Bend/Sun River was at this place. The salads were so good and the kids enjoyed their food the most. Beautiful views and quick attentive service.

Yelp
We were told about this at the Lodge's Merchant Shop . It's newly opened this month and is gorgeous . We sat on the patio watching kids frolic on their paddle boards ; as the sun was still pretty high the staff adjusted the umbrellas. Beautiful setting and attentive service -we were taking time in SunRiver celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary! The Calderas Fizz was a perfect cocktail ( light , refreshing , Tito's with pomegranate and champagne) Yum ! Plus the salmon was perfectly cooked atop the beet salad and the berry salad . Spectacular presentation .

Yelp
So good! Steak frites was amazing. The aioli that came with the fries was SO good. 100/10. It was amazing. Service was a little slow but not horrible. Restaurant was new and clean and has a great view and a cute bar.

Yoshiyuki S.

Yelp
Slow service, wrong order. No table touch. Only the good thing was a view, nothing more.

Yelp
Had a great lunch sitting outside by the lake enjoying a view of Mt Bachelor. Great service from the host to the server. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. We had the corn salad and the grilled chicken sandwich which were both excellent. A very nice alternative to the craziness of the village this time of year. I'd highly recommend giving them a try.

Yelp
We wanted a special dinner for our last night in Sun River. Boy, was this a fail! It started with our party of 8 being seated on the far side of the restaurant, a long ways from the actual dining area. 4 of our group were seated on a rock wall with ants crawling around and a wide thorny rise bush to the back of the head. Yes, we booked late and this was the restaurant accommodating us. Next was a bartender who didn't have any idea how to make an old fashioned!, even with a request for a do over. Then 2 people in the party ordered medium rare bison burgers and the burgers came out with absolutely no pink inside. 'This restaurant faiiled all the way around with manager, wait staff who asked us 3 times if he could get us anything and was told "the, check" all 3 times, the cook, and the bartender. We would have preferred to be told, no tables available and picked a different, hopefully better place to eat, then dop $250 for poor service and food. The burgers were comped along with one drink, but bad experience outweighed the good things.

Yelp
This is a charming place right on a small lake in Caldera Springs near Sunriver, Oregon. Lovely ambiance. Our server, Melanie was friendly and attentive. And she is from Germany which was a fun fact. We enjoyed cocktails, wine and delicious dinners. We were a group of 6. Our dinners included the Bone-In Pork Chop, the Seared Salmon, the Summer Pappardelle Pasta, Wild Mushroom Grilled Cheese sandwich and the Bison burger. Everything was delicious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. The patio outside looked very nice but because it was a cool evening, we decided to eat inside.

Yelp
We had a reservation at 5:30 and were promptly seated. Unfortunately, for us, our inexperienced server had another table of 2 plus a table of 10 and wes over whelmed. We totally confounded her when we brought our own bottle of a fine Cabernet. She had to find someone who knew how to properly open the bottle and serve it. This took over 15 mins. Then she disappeared for another 15 mins before asking if we wished to order an appetizer. We did and it came fairly promptly. The sweet corn dip was OK, the blue corn chips were excellent. Would we order it again...no. We order our meals and they came fairly quickly. My New York strip was not medium as requested by more on the well side and was stepped in temperature. My husband salmon was well cooked and delicious. My New York strip was not only on the cold side, and over cooked by didn't look like a NY strip was cut into segments like a brisket. Over all the price was high for the food and the service. We may try them again as they only opened weeks before, but them just train their staff better, and the kitchen must deliver food that is hot and cooked to the proper temp.

Matthew M.

Yelp
The food was great, the view is awesome. I just wish the service was faster. We waited 10 mins to even be greeted at our table and another 5 mins for our server to come by. We had to constantly flagged our server down for any additional drink order. It is almost like they needed an additional server on staff. Not once were we checked on if we didn't raise our hand for attention.

Jen A.

Yelp
Worst service I have ever had! I had low expectations and those were not even meet(resort Resturant and after Covid I lower my expectations). The waiter was beyond bad and rude. He truly seemed to be high. The view is amazing, so beautiful sitting outside by the lake and the bridge. The food was good. Just expect when you sit down not to be asked what you want to drink for 30-50 minutes. Then expect the rest of the dinner to take 3 hours (for no good reason). We were not the only table who had this experience.

Barry B.

Yelp
Food was exceptional. The Skillet Brie is amazing and everyone in our party had the smash burgers and raved about them! Highly recommend sitting outside if the weather permits. Staff is very friendly but are laidback so you don't feel rushed.

Yelp
We enjoyed a great dinner at the Lake House not long after it first opened to the public. Beautiful remodel of the interior to create a dining room feel, while keeping the incredible views of Obsidian Lake, Mt Bachelor, and sunsets. The NY Steak was well seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the bone-in pork chop with polenta was outstanding. Our kids ordered off the kids menu and the portions were generous. Service was friendly and prompt. We look forward to returning again soon.

Yelp
Had lunch for the first time today at Lake House. It is part of the Sunriver Resort. Location (especially the patio) was gorgeous!! Service was attentive and the food came out timely. We had the salmon sandwich and turkey wrap and some drinks from the bar. Food was on point, delicious, high quality ingredients. I hear it is pretty busy in the evenings but lunch around 12:45 was quite very enjoyable.

Yelp
We had the best experience at the lake house. The setting is amazing. We enjoyed the patio. It was shaded and the water features made it so peaceful. The drinks were so good. Our server Keigan was so nice and very attentive to us. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back.
