Eat Your Way Through the Southwest’s Most Picturesque National Parks | Eater Vegas

"The region around the nation’s largest man-made reservoir offers boating, swimming, and paddleboarding set against expansive desert-water vistas; visitors can opt for leisurely vintage-style paddleboat outings, hike the 3.5-mile Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail that follows old construction rail routes, and easily connect to guided tours or photo vantage points at the nearby engineering marvel that created the reservoir." - Rob Kachelriess

12 Things To Do In Las Vegas Off The Strip (Updated 2025)

"A man-made lake created by the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead is a fun nearby getaway (about 30 minutes from the city) where you can swim, kayak, fish, and even scuba dive; the lake spans over 1.5 million acres and was the country’s first national recreation area. Admission is $25 per vehicle or $15 per pedestrian/cyclist." - Matthew Kepnes

Very impressive place to see and visit. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking is reasonable priced and plenty of parking lots along the road to take pictures.

It's always a flex to have a bestie with a boat, and that's my bestie! Being on Lake Mead is one thing, but exploring it on a boat is a completely different experience. You can go to places deep within the lake that you'd never be able to reach without a boat or a jet ski. We were able to set up our own little private spot with no one around, grab some drinks and snacks, and just relax while having great catch-up conversations. While we were relaxing, the teens opted for jumping off a cliff and doing some water sports. Life is good. I just hope my bestie and I make it to be old ladies and are still doing this with our families.

This was a beautiful lake. Wish we had more time to explore. People at the nature center were very helpful. Next time, we would probably book a boat tour. It looked like fun.

Okay? So I am from Florida, and we have beaches on every block, and I understand this Is the only water in the desert? So a pretty cool place to be able to stick your feet in and go for a swim. I only stuck my feet in. I did not stick my head under the water, but on a hot day. Over a 100° in Death Valley, this is a good place to stop and check out the size of this lake. Lots of families no restrooms come prepared.

Always worth a stop when you're in Las Vegas.

Lake mead is the largest water reservoir of the USA. It is an artificial lake from the Colorado river built between Arizona and Nevada at the same time than the Hoover dam. It is about 12 min away from the Hoover dam so you can stop to see this beautiful scenic view. Really worth it. We travelled alone with a car so when we stopped it was nice and quiet. When bus tour stops it must be a little less pleasant.

Within an easy drivers distance and always worth the scenery, I'm a yearly pass holder and will utilize the $45 yearly pass as often as I can.

Beautiful lake! Took shots from the overlook point near the marina, just west of Hoover Dam. Low water levels though, hopefully the area gets some rain soon
