Soooo pretty. Went for Slug World 2025 on a Tuesday afternoon and it was just so beautifully sunny and warm. People were with their kids, dogs, cycling, just out for a stroll. There's a nice big grassy area by the amphitheater. The water and sun really soothe the soul.

There always seems to be people around here so there's a great sense of community. I see people on bikes doing tricks, tight rope walkers, and people just sitting having a good time eating or listening to music. There's even a nice padded area for running to make getting around the lake a bit easier. Another amazing thing is that during the holidays a menorah goes up and they light it as Hanukkah progresses. For Independence day it's also a great viewpoint of the fireworks since they happen on all sides of the lake. It's definitely a cool place to people watch and experience Oakland culture. There's even a little beach during low tide with geese, ducks and other birds.

at the foot of a magnificent lake, a big open space where a beautifully diverse and colorful community passes by on foot, scooter and bike... runners, walkers, lollygaggers and louts... all together sharing the space... the iconic Alameda County Court building and the regal Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium set an elegant architectural stage for a cast if seabirds and geese... tall trees sigh... smell of kind bud, sounds of hip hop and the city beyond... a prideful Oakland gem.

Great place to visit in Oakland. The amphitheatre is located on the banks of Lake Merritt and the views are magnificent! The parking can be a challenge so if you can, walk. Although the City of Oakland cleaned up the homeless, still some remain. Other than that it is a great place to visit and have a great stroll!

Very nice place. Little bit dirty and some homeless but innocent. Can be more beautiful

I love lake Merritt so much and have been coming and enjoying it's beautiful views of the city and it's people since I was a child. Being an Oaklander myself I know part of the history of lake Merritt but I'm an 80's baby meaning that the 90's was my era, so I remember all the festivals and nice cars driving around playing there music to the moon. I hope and pray that Oakland keeps Lake Merritt beautiful for many years to come

First time in Oakland, not impressed. Beautiful layout of the area and cool old buildings. But the homeless population is kind of unnerving. Very busy city, lots to see. To do and to try.

Great place to chill look out on the lake and take in some Oakland vibes

Yelp
A great place at Lake Merritt!! This open space was always here, but when they added the stone, stadium style rows to this area, I think it became the major gathering spot around the lake!! First of all, it's the biggest open space around the lake, it's close to downtown, and there's a restroom nearby. When I run around the lake, and I've been doing that for a long time, this is usually the most crowded area depending on the day and time of day!! I've seen a lot here, dancing, skateboarding, and partying, just to name a few! And, you always get that great view of the lake!!
