"Good things await those entering this brightly-painted restaurant serving homestyle traditional foods from around Mexico. Even the snobbiest Californian will be won over by the Baja-style fish tacos, served on house-made corn tortillas, with chorizo, lengua, and chicken among the other options for fillings — not to mention the gorditas, tortas, and enchiladas. Hood River locals love this spot so much that they helped to raise more than $48,000 to renovate a new location downtown. Grab a bite and pair it with a margarita on the sunny patio." - Zoe Baillargeon, Molly Allen

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Fiancé and I visited for the first time tonight and can I say it was EXCEPTIONAL!! Food, drinks, and service was all beyond compare! We LOVED the brisket and pork shoulder tacos and not too mention their delicious cocktails! We cannot wait to dine here again!

Huge bar with plenty of super comfortable seats. Plenty of large TVs visible with all the sports you want to watch. You'll be hard pressed to find more friendly and attentive staff as well. The burrito I had was awesome, but was even better thanks to the recommendation by the young man on local hot sauce selections. Looking forward to returning in the summer and enjoying the open doors and view of the water.

Sophia was great at the bar for our first time. Will definitely be back!! We got the brisket and the gringo tacos. The flight of margaritas was delicious too

The service I received from Sofia was incredibly. She was extremely polite, welcoming , and helpful with selections for dinner. We had an outstanding time and can t wait to visit her at the bar again !

Sofia the Bartender was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise sometimes lacking industry. She was polite, friendly, whitty, and knowledgeable and made some great margaritas. Made our stay here worth coming back to. Food was great but without good service it's just food. The service made it a great dining experience.

Lake Taco was absolutely amazing!! It was my first time going and I can’t recommend it more. I had the burrito and it was delicious, paired with a margarita made it exceptional. Shared cornbread with my fellow diner. It is worth the trip to Coventry. Can’t wait to go back and go during the summer to sit on the deck.

A fairly new restaurant in Coventry, on Tiogue Ave, is Lake Taco. Sounds like a nice Taco restaurant. I was wrong!! From their name, I thought that the menu would consist mainly of Tacos, but they have a variety of menu items… including Tacos! Chicken, pork, beef… I think you’ll find something on the menu that you’ll enjoy. They also have a full bar selection (and usually a “full bar” of patrons) I came here for lunch and they were fairly busy. I ordered, as you may have guessed, Tacos. They’re called The Gringo. There’s three Tacos on a sectional serving plate. They are huge Tacos so bring your appetite when you go to Lake Taco. The people there were very friendly and most of them allowed me to take photos of them enjoying their favorite dishes, So you can see they do serve more than Tacos. I will certainly add Lake Taco to my favorite restaurants. This Mexican inspired restaurant is sure to be a huge success. The waitstaff were super friendly and very helpful explaining the different dishes they serve. Thank you to all the friendly people and especially to Emma and Meadow (spelling?) for all their help and hospitality.

Love lake taco! First time here and highly recommend. Service was great. Love the atmosphere of this restaurant and food/drinks were amazing. Can’t wait to come back! Try the margarita flights. So good!!

Yelp
I came here with an open mind. First off, I'll be rating based on the food and service and I'll go on record saying it's generous giving 4 stars. I wish yelp allowed half stars. This is not a spot you'll come to get a quick dinner and get out on a Friday/Saturday night. Our service was very slow, but the place is large and there were about 4 servers there so not exactly a lot to cover all that ground and tables. Our server was very polite and even brought us some complimentary chips as an apology for the wait it took between taking drink orders and food orders. The food: the smoked wings were fantastic. Good flavor, crisp snappy skin that wasn't chewy. The flavor we got that used a dry rub was a little weak, but the sauced one was delicious. Overall, great execution in the wings. I was between a couple options. I decided to go with the chicken bbq bowl and al la carte Brisket because I just needed to try it. Good lord, it was an absurd amount of food. I see some reviews on here complaining about the price but dollar to portion size ratio seemed perfectly acceptable to me (especially on the brisket, I ordered a 1/2lb and surely got at least 3/4). The chicken bowl could have used a little more sauce. They topped with a bbq sauce drizzle and I think it could have used more plus some kind of fat-based sauce like an aioli or even their Alabama white sauce. The mashed potatoes were plentiful, but made for a pretty monotone dish. I would have liked some acidity brought to the table. Some pickled red onion or pico de gallo would have been super nice. There was crispy corn and texturally and flavor wise, I loved that. Overall, would recommend for a hungry patron, maybe just ask for some extra sauce or some fresh pico on the side which they would probably be happy to provide. The brisket wasn't the best I've ever had. But man, it was a portion and a half. $18 for a 1/2lb serving is pretty standard. Like I mentioned, I definitely got more. So I made out on this deal. My slices were half and half from the flat and the point. The flat is almost always on the drier side but the point should not be. This brisket was overcooked. When you went to do the pull test it just kind of fell apart. Regardless, with the mustard bbq sauce and sweet bbq sauce they provided I was a happy camper. Not elite level bbq by any means, but it would for sure scratch the itch if you're in the mood for it. Now, I do have to mention.. There was live music and the performers were honestly hard to listen to.. It got to a point where it was so bad that it was good. The looks on the faces when you scanned the room were a unanimous, "What. Is. Happening. Right.now.".. Please, for the love of all that is good, please just play a soundtrack off of spotify. It would have been so much more enjoyable and it was so absurdly loud that I could barely hear my friends. Thankfully we were all able to catch up but.. Yeah. Had to mention that. Takeaway, slow pace of service, average food but great portions (my friends both got massive burritos and loved them), awful music, BUT, great casual setting to go and b.s. with the guy pals. I probably wouldn't take someone here on a date, though. We all agreed, we'd go back. I have to emphasize the use case for this restaurant, if you're expecting a perfect dining experience and you have very high standards for service, you'll rate a 2 or 3. Knowing this would be a "local bar and super casual Tavern" type vibe, my expectations were greatly tempered and we had a great time.

Yelp
One of the worst meals I've had out in a while. I ordered chips and salsa and the Lakeside Burrito with mac n cheese (side dish upgrade for 3$). The mac was awful. The pasta was too undercooked and the cheese sauce was heavy, tasted like boxed mix, and it seemed just stirred in - not baked. Like stovetop mac. The chips had a Pringles look/feel, tasted stale, and the salsa that they came with was like jarred salsa from the supermarket chips aisle. The burrito wasn't great either. The server got my order correct. I asked what choice of proteins they had, he listed them off, I picked carne asada. The burrito was flavorless. The carne had no seasoning. I used a lot of salt. I ate one or two small bites of mac, and the burrito came cut in two, I ate maybe half of a half. Basically, left most of the food on my tray plate. The server asked if I wanted to-go boxes, and I honestly answered no, I didn't like any of it, don't need to bring it home. When I got my bill, I'm expecting about 30$ total : 7$ chips, 18$ burrito (which is crazy for a burrito) and the 3$ up charge for the mac. Instead I get a bill with a charge of 30$ for the burrito! He charged me 30$ for one burrito! A 40$ tab for a few bites of terrible food. I asked the server why 30$ for the burrito? It's 18$ on the menu. Even with the mac up charge, it's not 30$! He says it's an up charge for the carne asada, my protein choice. I'm like, does it say that on the menu? I don't recall seeing that... and when he told me the protein choices, he didn't mention an up charge for any of the proteins. And the menu description of the burrito lists the ingredients, which includes protein of choice - and doesn't say it's extra. I was nice, he was nice, I didn't have to ask, he adjusted it to the 18$ menu price for me. Maybe somewhere on the menu it says carne asada costs 12$ extra, but I didn't see it. Anyway, my server was really pleasant. It's not his fault the food was bad and the pricing is whack like that. But I won't be back. It was not good at all. And if they're really trying to get 30$ for a burrito with a little bit of steak in it, they're being absolutely ridiculous.

Yelp
The food is great and the menu seems to change enough where there are new options to try. We have tried a lot of the handhelds and tacos haven't found one yet that disappoints! We also love all the wings (AND we also wish the buffalo dry rub would come back as I saw in another review)... Service is great, we always seem to run in to Ally who always greets us with a smile and remembers our drinks! There have been a lot of restaurants in this location over the years and this one by far is the best. Highly recommend.

Yelp
My party of 5 had a wonderful experience here on a Friday evening. We walked in with no reservations and were immediately seated. We ordered: Houston quesataco - delicious! Full of flavor with a birria-like experience. Lake taco - mmMm!! Now THAT'S a fish taco! Chicken melt - came with potato scoops which are more like chips. Don't expect mashed potatoes lol. They were an enjoyable twist on a homemade chip. The sandwich was completely devoured. Enchiladas - came with beans and rice and the enchiladas were laying on top with so much pulled pork on top that you couldn't tell what was under there. I finished this after I was already full...and it wasn't even my entree lol Mac & cheese w/ brisket - the absolute HIGHLIGHT! My friends could not stop eating off my plate. This was the best Mac and cheese I've ever had state-side! We're all excited to go back!

Kristen K.

Yelp
The place is cute nestled right on a lake. The food is average. You pay for chips and salsa (which is fine) most Mexican restaurants serve chips and salsa like Italian restaurants serve bread. I'd say this is more of an American Mexican restaurant. Beef tacos were stuffed but was missing something on the flavor side. Glad I tried out the place.

David R.

Yelp
Stopped in here today for lunch. First time here. Love the cushioned bar seats! Tried the quesi-taco with brisket. It was very good but too heavy a meal to eat all 4. I ended up eating the brisket out of the last 2 tacos. Good brisket. I'll be back to try the wings next.

Yelp
We anxiously awaited the opening of a new restaurant at this location. It has been several different restaurants over the past few years. I like tacos and was hoping to love this new spot. Our visit went so wrong and we couldn't be more disappointed. The interior has been almost completely remodeled. Bright colors painted on the walls. The private dining room wall removed and open to the main dining area. The bar has been moved away from the back wall, although in a similar position. Reception is in the same spot as are restrooms and the waiters station. Reception was not manned when we arrived, but we were greeted quickly by a lovely team member who asked if we had a seating preference, quickly brought us to a table, left us menus and let us know our waiter would be with us soon. Our waiter was extremely high energy, I mean absolutely over the top high energy excited to be our waiter. His routine included lots of platitudes he must have learned throughout his FOH career. We placed our drink order and after much conversation, off he went. The drinks took a little time to arrive. Nothing ridiculous. The bartender brought them over. This may be how the bar runs here because a second round was delivered by another team member as well. My whisky sour was quite tasty and nicely presented. We had plenty of time to view the menu and I noticed this menu is not the same as the online menu. The waiter mentioned the menu has been 'changed 16 times' since they opened. Sounds like they are taking suggestions and tweaking their offerings. I have food sensitivities that prevent me from eating corn products, pork, chicken and black beans which meant I can not eat any of their tacos as they do not offer flour shells. Only corn. From photos on Yelp I suspected as much but hope blooms eternal. My second choice, after a taco, was the smoked brisket but as it's cooked in the same smoker as the pork and chicken the waiter was hesitant to let me try. I appreciate the care. That left a burger. I can also eat their potato scoops and it seems the coleslaw should be OK as well. I can't figure out if their fish is breaded with corn flour as one menu says, or buttermilk battered as another menu states. I did ask for clarification but didn't get it. A food runner dropped the food at the table. Our waiter stopped by once to see if everything was OK after the food arrived and once before he 'clocked out' to let us know a new server would be taking over. We encountered several lovely team members during our visit. This burger is honestly just not good. I often get stuck eating burgers at restaurants because of my dietary limitation so I've had my fair share. But this burger is just, blah. I'm not sure how but it had no flavor. I'm pretty sure it's a frozen patty based on shape and it's quite a thin patty so you don't really get any beef flavor from that. It comes on a pretzel bun which is nice but that's really all you are tasting. It was just dry and blah. I know people don't come here for the burger. Still, it's on offer and I'm thinking I'm not the only one who has eaten one. Having flour tortilla shells as an option would have been greatly appreciated. The potato scoops are nice. Soft inside, well cooked. The restaurant is very brightly lit. They have a country music sound track. It's got nice new tables and chairs. The floors are painted concrete and with the vaulted ceiling even at quarter capacity, the dining room was so loud you couldn't hear the music any more. Not sure how to soften up the noise situation. Plenty of parking in their private lot and in summer they will have dining on the deck overlooking the lake we are told. I was looking forward to a good, basic taco: ground beef, lettuce, salsa, cheese, etc. Not being able to get my first or second menu choice, menu confusion (there are two), our over the top waiter, noise level and muzak all combined to make my experience two stars. This spot actually seems to be a smoked meat restaurant with taco's as a menu option. I would like to try their smoked brisket, but it doesn't sound like an option for me. I hope you have better luck. Exploring a new business is always an adventure.

Yelp
We enjoyed a lovely, picturesque Father's Day lunch on the back patio this past Sunday. We were seated at a table near the water which was full of large fish. We ordered our food and drinks which came out quickly. Our server was very attentive even though she had several tables she was serving. My brisket tasted amazing- a little salty, but I love salt so it didn't bother me. It paired perfectly with their unique potato scoops, and I was so happy to see that they added cucumber salad to the menu. The drinks were on point too. What sets this restaurant apart from others in the area is the beautiful outdoor bar area. We will definitely be back to enjoy it again! :)

Yelp
Great place to come watch the games. There are 6 large televisions that you come see from both sides of the new bar. Everything is clean and new. The bartenders are fantastic and there is quite a selection of great cocktails with superb garnishes. The food is really good and the sauces for the bbq are excellent! All of the burgers sounded great, but they are only served on pretzel buns so I opted for some tacos. The tacos were good, hot and fresh. I can't wait to try the BBQ straight up next time with the sauces we tried a small sample and I can't wait to get a full plate. The pulled chicken with the white bbq sauce and the brisket with the tangy Tex!

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Waited forever for drinks. Ate a meal and ordered dessert to go. They must have driven to CT to get it. I've eaten here 5 times and tried a different dish each time and have yet to have an appetizer or meal that I'd come back for. The "fries" are awful. They are like a blan, warm piece of potato. Neither crispy nor soft, just blah. All meat is smoked, so if you don't like that flavor, this place is not for you. The tangy bbq sauce is awful. The place is busy though, so there must be something people like. Just not for me.

Katie C.

Yelp
Great BBQ and Tacos! Our favorite is by far the Houston Queso tacos which are Birria tacos - opt for a side of their house made potatoes and it's a great meal! We also loved their tequila tower - gorgeous and delicious! Service is quick and friendly. Lots of parking and indoor and outdoor seating available. Great spot on Lake Tiogue in Coventry.

Tracey H.

Yelp
Lake Taco is a local gem! The ambience and location is wonderful on Lake Tiogue. The staff are all friendly and provide great service. Thank you, cocktails are fantastic and the Taco's and smoked meats are delicious. This newly opened restaurant has all that fixings for a great meal and night out! I am happy to be a local and big fan of Lake Taco!

Michele D.

Yelp
Wow! My husband and I are not chefs but we know when we've had a great meal. This was our first time at this new spot and we are so happy we chose it for our date night. The food portions were so generous, satisfying, and the menu was creative and enticing. Our server, Maddie, was fantastic- very attentive, and informative. The homemade tortilla chips, guacamole, and salsa were fresh and flavorful. There were nice chunks of avocado in a perfectly seasoned guac and the smoky salsa had a nice kick. We ordered the tacos - of course- which were delicious. The smoky flavor in my pulled chicken was just right, and complimented by small bites of mango and slaw. (One suggestion: I wish there was a grilled fish or shrimp option!) Save room for dessert and definitely order the homemade bread pudding. It was savory, full of complimentary flavors like toasted coconut, caramel, fresh whipped cream and a huge scoop of French Vanilla ice cream. (See photo). I've been a non-drinker for nearly 4 years and appreciate a wellmade mocktail. I asked our server if they offered them and learned the bartender would create one based on my flavor profile request. Holy moly! I don't know what was in it but it was hands down THE BEST mocktail I have ever had. I really appreciated that it came in a cool glass, not a water glass like many other venues choose to do and that it was appropriately priced at $5. (See photo) For those who have been here when it was Nino's or other names, you will recognize it for sure. The great thing about Lake Taco is that you are drawn to the view of the lake because it is brighter, more open and the big bar has been moved to one end of the restaurant. There are a couple of large screen TVs at the far ends of each side, not obtrusive like a sports bar but big enough so you can keep an eye on the games. I am giving it 5 stars because of the quality of our meal, our great server, and the atmosphere- Also because the cranky "chef" who gave them 2 stars on his review almost kept us from coming tonight. I don't want you to miss out on a great meal like we almost did. We already made plans to go back and bring family! (On our way home from dinner!)

Hike L.

Yelp
Great bang for your buck. Wings are among the best I have had. Wish they would bring back dry buffalo rub

Timothy G.

Yelp
Went here a few weeks ago and I can't stop talking about the food, friendly service and the views. Absolutely perfect. Highly recommend.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Opening night First time pulling up to a Taco restaurant outside Providence that offered valet parking. Greetings by the hostess were eeh, almost like I was bothering them. Waitress was very pleasant. The atmosphere is similar to other locations like Back/40, Black Oak-open, bar, loud, and huge screen TVs. Prices are reasonable for the area. I tried the signature dish Lake Taco's (catfish tacos with pineapple) House Margarita (Key lime). Both were great. My guest had a specialty margarita and enchiladas l.. Only complaint - half the dish was cold. Shared the churros for dessert and it did not disappoint. Also ordered the gringo tacos and pecan pie for my daughter at home. No picture because she devoured them with two thumbs up. I'm new to this area so I hope it sticks around

Paul C.

Yelp
I have been a couple of times, and I have thought a lot about this review. Positives, I love the location. Being able to view the water while eating is so nice. The wait staff has been super nice and efficient. My GF absolutely loves her sangria. What I didn't care for. The venue has odd acoustics. Depending on where you sit, it can be hard to hear conversations over the music. The menu is super limited. It's also kinda disappointing that chips and salsa are only available as a paid appetizer. With the menu being limited, you would think every meal would be on point. But that wasn't my experience. I feel like they mix Mexican and BBQ, but are mastering neither. The Mac and cheese lacked flavor, the pulled pork was okish. The lake tacos were good but kept dripping a lot of liquid. The scoop shaped fries were very good. The prices were ok, but I could get much better tacos at a host of other places and with limited BBQ I am not rushing to go back. So overall not bad, not great.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Oh where to start. I was thinking I was going to a Mexican restaurant so set my sights on some good Mexican food. But I was met with something different. A bit more Tex/mex also bbq as well would be best way to put it. None of the tacos were screaming out to me. And what I tried from someone at the table they weren't that good. Wanted the brisket mac n cheese they didn't have it. so I went with a burger and it was ok at best. Like I could have went to Wendy's for a better burger. The chips and queso was bad like felt like they opened a can and added chipotle to it. The restaurant looks nice would possibly go back for a drink if I was meeting friends In The area but wouldn't eat there again. But check them might have better experience then I had.

Phjohnso J.

Yelp
Lake Taco should be more like Lake Floppo We wanted to try this place for a while - so on 11/19//24 at 645 pm we finally did. We were promptly seated and told someone would be right over - servers came and went but no one ever stopped by to see how they could help us - after 15 minutes we got up and told the hostess we were leaving because no one ever bothered to come over - suddenly she wanted to start throwing gift cards at us to stay but honestly the damage was already done. Total downer of an experience and this just shows me that the place isn't on top of things at all. We were looking for a new place to try and sadly Lake Floppo is now off the list. The ambiance was awful and is was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. Double thumbs down and not to return. I've heard of other service complaints from friends and now we have experienced it first hand. Wish I could say something nice about the place but Lake Taco and their staff never gave us the chance. Hope you can chase less people away in the future cause the word will slowly get out on you..... There was plenty of wait staff - they kept walking by and going to all the tables around us - someone definitely dropped the ball.... or in this case an anchor.

Michelle S.

Yelp
We had a great night with amazing service!! Our large party loved their selections. I'm a bit picky not enough flavor for me. It's a bit loud but worked for us, we were a large group with kids Margaritas were yummy But save room for dessert WOW

Jennifer H.

Yelp
A few Fridays ago, we decided to try Lake Taco. We started with the traditional quesadilla, it was good but nothing special. As for the entrees, I enjoyed the taco bowl, while my husband had the brisket entree. Our server and bussers were very attentive, especially on a Friday night when the place was crowded with other patrons. The portions were generous, everything was fresh, and the service was superb. My rating of 3 stars is based on the price. I wouldn't mind paying more if my food did not come in a paper container (brisket entree) or if the quality was outstanding. The food was very good, but it was overpriced for what you received. While I realize that food prices have increased with inflation, I frequent similar establishments that are both equally good and more affordable.

Andrea R.

Yelp
Service was very good, wasn't that impressed with the dish I had. I would go again and try something else but expected more At least Tex Mex and this was not that.

Kendra S.

Yelp
Visited Lake taco for the first time the other night. Beautiful location right by the water. Good food and great vibes. We ordered the pork nachos and two different orders of tacos. The tacos were very good but the nachos were definitely subpar for such a nicest establishment. The Diablo Roja margaritas were delicious. Overall, it was a great experience, and we would definitely return.

Ben C.

Yelp
Service was pretty good but a restaurant must stand on its food. It was pretty bad. We were a party of three and nobody thought the food was good. Tacos were horrible. Carnitas were dry, Catfish taco lacked flavor and they must of used a pocket knife to cut the catfish filets because they were so small. The gringo taco wasn't really a gringo taco (gringo calls for a flour tortilla) and it also lacked flavor. The corn tortillas lacked flavor and were gritty. You could also tell that they weren't made fresh and possibly prepackaged. WTF? Overall it seemed like the tacos were made on an assembly line with many of the ingredients either prepackaged or canned. A Good taco spot calls for super fresh ingredients and made to order tortillas. At $5 per taco (in Coventry?!), I think it should be expected. The chili cheese scoops were decent and so were the smoked wings but if you call yourself a taco spot, then the tacos have to stand out. Drinks were good but no different than how it would be made at any local dive bar in the area but still good. Probably will go back in the summer to grab a drink on the back patio (potentially a huge redeeming quality)

Keith K.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, really like the concept of this restaurant. However I am not the biggest fan of smoked meats personally, despite that, the various dishes I've had the three times I've gone all were very good. Patio is a great spot with great water views and definitely worth a visit for drinks and a scenic setting. Service each time we've gone has been right on point. Definitely try the jalapeno cornbread, very good as an appetizer or side to some of the barbecue dishes.

L S.

Yelp
Pros- Fantastic margaritas. Great service. Very nice remodel. Beautiful views on the patio for the spring /summer months ahead. Cons - Don't go if you're looking for a quiet night out because it was LOUD. I don't know if it was the acoustics in there, but damn! The food was so-so. Not a big fan of the flavor mix on the bbq and the sauce was ketchup-y, and the lack of flavor in some of the taco dishes. The tacos were boring and not one fish taco on the menu. C'mon we are the Ocean State. I've lived in Texas and this is not it. Just my two cents but check out any Rudy's BBQ in Texas, the one in Selma is awesome. There's 1,000 of bbq in Texas but Rudy's is a good model to follow. Lake Taco has a great restaurant potential but pull the food together or you will sink like the other 5 restaurants before you.

Alyn A.

Yelp
We went there once before and it was ok, not great, but ok. It was a nice sunny day and they have outside seating so we decided to try it again. It was 4:30 in the afternoon. They told us they wouldn't seat us outside, even though there were people out there eating. I asked why. They said they were having a band. I asked when the band went on, and they said 7 PM. This is 2 1/2 hours after we were there. I explained that my dinner companion had a severe hearing loss and that inside seating in the restaurant with very loud music, as they had playing on the speakers, was a problem. I don't sign very well and would be willing to bet that the waitstaff does not sign at all. She would neither be able to converse with me nor even with the waitstaff. There were no quiet corners there. We had specifically chosen this place because of the outside seating. I explained that we wouldn't be long, just needed a quick bite and that my dinner company had a disability. We would be gone long before the band was setting up. The hostess went and talked with someone else (presumably the manager) and came back and said "nope." So we left and went down the street to Black Oak and had a nice meal in a quiet corner where we could talk and hear each other. I will not be back.

Ellen F.

Yelp
The service was amazing! I came two separate times on a work trip. Brisket quesadillas were well cooked and fresh.

Mike T.

Yelp
This is a great place plenty of seats and a nice view of the pond, unique taco selection I honestly didn't think I would like the spam tacos but they ended up being really good.

Freesia E.

Yelp
My friend and I met here for lunch so it wasn't super busy. The food is more like smoked meats used in a variety of taco-ways and I wasn't mad at it! I thought it was creative and flavor profiles were complimentary. Wasn't a fan of the gritty texture of the flour tortillas so guessing that there was corn meal in the mix. It's advertised as "Tacos" and that's what they have! Loved my margarita- it's weird the menu doesn't explicitly identify which drinks are margaritas but our server was great at explaining the menu. Service overall was great! Loved the warm tortilla chips that came with the chip & dip. Lovely chunks of avocado in the guacamole! We found no unexpected hot spiciness in the food which scored huge with me! I love flavorful but not spicy. I got the smoked chicken tacos and my friend has the spam tacos! Yes spam! I tried one and it was pretty good! Ended with the banana pudding- it was ok. More like banana cream pie filling with fresh cut bananas. Again, wasn't mad at it. Decor was bright and colorful. Everything was very clean. I wouldn't want to sit at any of the tables in the open middle floor - I could see how that could get very loud with all the hard surfaces. We sat by the windows looking over the frozen lake. Outside patio looked like it would be fun on a summer night.

Yelp
The food was only ok. The Taco Salad comes with no meat in it! Have you ever gotten a Taco salad without even hamburger in it? It's considered an "add on"! Service was good, they were not busy. But again the food was only so-so. And the inside style is garish. Won't go back.

Yelp
Nah. Would avoid like the plague. Sat us at 6:00 pm into crammed tables. Needed a shoe horn to seat us that's how tight it is. Not sure why since the place is enormous. Not overly crowded. No one and I mean no one came to our table to say be right with you or anything. 15 minutes later I had enough and we got up and left. Again no one said anything to us. Guy next to use asked for a water. That simple ask never got fulfilled so that was an indication of how the service was. I'm all for trying new places out but this place has been open for awhile and not acknowledging the paying customer is unacceptable. I would not recommend this place.

Yelp
Good food. Somewhat limited menu. Great service. Slightly pricey but worth it. Must try this place. Great view of the lake. Clean.

Yelp
Great service, staff were very friendly! I had the San Antonio taco, came with 2, though a little too spicy for me the side of coleslaw I ordered helped. The inside was renovated and was really open and modern. Definitely going back!

Yelp
I was served a drink in a glass that had a lipstick stain and also had other stains on the side that made it very clear my glass was dirty. We pointed out the lipstick to the waitress and she apologized and said she'd have the bartender make me a new one. I get things happen so I was fine with having a new drink made. Only issue is the waitress returned very quickly which made it obvious the drink had not been remade. I looked at the glass and it was obvious it was the same. Her or the bartender had just wiped off the lipstick and served me the same drink in the same dirty glass. I could tell because the other stains on the side of the glass were still there and the area where the lipstick had been was wet and you could see the mark from where they had just wiped that one area off with something. Had the drink actually been remade and I was served a new drink in a clean glass all would be good because mistakes happen but I won't be returning because it's very clear this place doesn't care about being hygienic.

Yelp
First time in this evening after opening and the food was great and drinks were awesome, will definitely be frequenting this place that's for sure! Highly recommend the chips and dip (so fresh and delish) and chili lime wings!

Yelp
We come here all the time. It's always excellent food and great friendly staff! And now the outdoor patio is open with a beautiful view. Definitely go to Lake taco you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I gave try this place many times, their foods need to be improved, the chefs need to be trained how to make a good food seasoned , quality of the food if they want to stay open for business. Their foods are not great

Yelp
Ok, been dying to try this since I'm from Texas. I got take out. Excessively loud In this establishment, like annoyingly loud. Borders on obnoxious. The food. My GF got the San Antonio Taco, hardly any cojita cheese and excessive amount of pineapple, tasted like they opened a can of some pineapple chunks and loaded the bottom of the taco. Meat didn't have any taste but honestly the excessive amount of pineapple may have masked the taste. I ordered the Rueben quesadilla again an excessive amount of thousand island sauce, Texas thousand island. Tasted like good ole regular thousand island. Barely had any of the homemade sauerkraut. Took a piece of meat off once again hardly any flavor. I definitely will not go here or get take out. Maybe a bad day but I'll go to black oak first either way.

Yelp
We went opening night and it lived up to the hype! The service was amazing, you could tell every member of the staff were just as excited to be there as we were. The vibe is super cool and the menu had something for everyone, if you're not totally into tacos and/or looking for great BBQ options this restaurant checks all the boxes!

Yelp
Excellent take on Tex Mex. Title of the establishment is a little misleading. If you're looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant then you might be tricked by the name. That said, after giving it the go we have to say that the this barbecue Tex Mex was pretty, pretty, pretty good... the four of us began with Casamigos blanco margaritas. Smooth and nice take on the margarita mix. Ordered nachos for an app. Salsa was ok, very mild. Guacamole was excellent- very flavorful. Here is the skinny on the food: Houston Quesitaco- the smoked brisket was fantastic! The mix of flavors were fantastic. A little heat but perfect. Cool Feedback: they were greasy. For a corn tortilla it was too greasy. Was it necessary to double fry? Maybe not, but the flavors were excellent. San Antonio: presentation was good. Double layered flour tortillas were helpful to hold it together. Pork shoulder was flavorful. Crema was a little spicy but not too overpowering. Brussels sprouts side - DO IT. Some of the best I've had ever. Slaw- texture was spot on. Flavor was nice. Domestic beer prices were excellent. Overall, think about this establishment as being a Tex Mex and you'll be very pleased. Especially if you like smoked meat! Service was excellent. Excellent ambience, TVs for sports. Interior design is excellent! Well done.

Yelp
Delicious food, fast friendly service and what a treat to sit on the back deck and look over the water. 10/10 will be back again

Yelp
I would rate the food as so so. The flavors didn't really pop like I had thought they would based on their other restaurants. The brisket tacos were super greasy and given to us on a metal tray laying in their own grease. The pork shoulder tacos also lacked flavor and the shells were very dry. The meat could definitely use more seasoning and the tacos could use better toppings. I actually prefer California taco better and you get more for your money there. Service was great though.

Yelp
Only thing I would change is the salsa. It is a fun environment. You can see the lake from any table now which is nice. Staff were so friendly. Will be back.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere/vibe the patio did get buggy into the night the food was okay not great but not terrible. Our server was friendly and was on it for the most part but the closer it got to close she barely checked up on us. We did have servers try to give us other tables food more then once. My biggest opinion is to have the servers start getting use to take empty plates and glasses off the table when they are dropping the new to keep table clean I had to ask a couple of times and they would still only clear what I asked and not the whole tables.

Yelp
Holy eardrums... food is actually very good but don't come here if you aren't wanting to scream at each other to have a conversation. Service has always been good and consistent, but this place is WAY too loud. Food is very good and we have yet to order anything we didn't like. Most likely since we live in the neighborhood, it'll be takeout going forward.

Yelp
I gave it 2 stars because the location and our waiter, Thomas. Other than that, don't waste your time. The food here was awful. My bbq chicken was so overcooked. I couldn't imagine a chef sending that out of their kitchen!! BUT, they did and it wasn't just mine that was burnt to a crisp, the table behind us also sent back their bbq chicken. It was so tough, no amount of "special sauce" could help get that down. Moving on to the tacos, that are served in a puddle of oil that makes your crispy taco a soggy mess. Bottom line, drinks by the lake..ok. but don't try the food!

Yelp
Someone spent a bunch of money to make this place resemble a school cafeteria. Unfortunately it sounds like one too. The noise actually increases as diners boost their volume trying to speak with table mates. The service was adequate however we would have ordered another round of drinks if the server was more attentive. Slow service was not the server's fault, there was plenty of help. Food and drink orders take an unusual amount of time. We were a party of six and ordered brisket quesadilla and chips with guacamole and salsa for appetizers. This was enough for the table. Both were good. Chips were warm and queso was tasty. Entrees included pulled chicken tacos, brisket tacos, ground beef tacos and salad bowls. The table unanimously declared the tacos resembled cardboard. All fillings were tasteless except the chicken. The salad people finished their meals while the others ate only one or two tacos and quit. We were profoundly disappointed. This is a shame as we all enjoy Back 40 and was hoping for a similar experience.
