Today, I had the opportunity to check out the space, the brews and the men behind Lake Tribe Brewery.
I vaguely remember sampling a few of their beers at the old Gaines Street Pies way back when. Now they're rocking a 20 barrel brewhouse with six beers on tap. They've been brewing for over six years, but now they finally have a taproom open to the public (on a bi-weekly basis, more or less).
They're not shy about informing the community they don't intend for their space to serve as "a bar." Lake Tribe wishes for the taproom to be utilized more for events, sharing their story and having their beers adored by folks of all walks of life.
Here's the deal: For $10, you receive a pint glass, six drink tickets, and a tour of the brewery.
I had the pleasure of sampling three beers.
1) Red Cloud IPA - hop heavy, red hue, light bitterness for a 7% IPA.
2) Beckster's 'Wh'ell Behaved Wheat - American wheat, American yeast, and a touch of citrus.
3) Hopwall Extra Special IPA - Cascade and Centenniel hops. Dangerously smooth IIPA.
After taking the tour and speaking with a few of the gentlemen behind the scenes, I'm pleased to hear of their success story and to see their hard work paying off. If you see their beer around town (about 15 local businesses i.e. Finnegan's Wake, Wells Brothers, Civic Center), do yourself a favor and give 'em a shot.
Inspired by the great outdoors, Lake Tribe is a family-run operation with the world in front of them. Cheers to contributing to the fantastic local beer scene in Tallahassee!
