New Portland Cookie Cart Will Serve Giant Chicken and Waffles Macarons - Eater Boston

"Lakehouse Tavern (157 Main St.) has opened with some sustainable practices in place. In addition to serving a broad selection of dishes ranging from wings and lobster fritters to wraps, sandwiches, burgers, and steaks, the restaurant roasts its own turkey, ham, and prime rib and recycles its cooking oil with Newport Biodiesel." - Dana Hatic

I totally love this place! I go in the fall and also in winter and is always great. The food, the service and the cozy house are just perfect. I always bring family and friends there when they come to visit from out of state and they all love it.

11 Nov 2023... We're here in Hopkinton to visit my aunt and she recommended this restaurant for a family dinner. What a excellent recommendation! The atmosphere ambiance is great. The venue is beautiful. The service is friendly and efficient. And... The food is excellent! Great menu with a nice variety of options. You really can't go wrong here!

To say my boyfriend and I love this place is an understatement! It's so cute, feels like home and is on a small pond! I have tried something different every time we have gone and I am never disappointed. I am obsessed with their "smoking gun" margarita. And their cocktails are always great. The servers have always been great. Very friendly and always help when I have questions! We never leave unsatisfied!

An obvious local favorite… dinner guests greeted one another as they walked up , expressed surprise that each would be there the same night. Every single person that walked up knew each other, as names were called the group separated into different areas. You can choose the atmosphere you like best. The bar is downstairs… formal dining upstairs and relaxed dining outside on the patio with a close up view of the lake. I ate the French onion soup …delicious!!! I also had a Greek house salad. It was large …a dinner salad for sure and full of fresh field greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion.grated carrots, feta, kalamata olives, and pepperoncini. I am allergic to citrus so I subbed out the Greek dressing for balsamic. Ask for a side of bread. It came grilled with a side of butter and was superb. A nice addition to my meal.

So we decided to try something new and different tonight for dinner. Our choice the Lakehouse Tavern is a place we drove by many times but never stopped. This place always appears to be very busy and signs at the door say they take resevations. We were fortunate and arrived before the dinner rush. We were seated quickly and were able to get a wind seat. See the photos as we looked over the pond at the ice skating pond and snow. With Chritmas decorations all around. For dinner we got some yummy wings. A crab cake sandwich with bacon on top and a Peach Mango Pork Schnitzel. With a salad with a pina-colata vinaigrette dressing. These are items we don't normally order as we were looking for something unusual. All food was delicious and I would get again, but the menu also had other new things I would like to try here before I repeat this particular dinner. See photos for the décor as this is a very neat old tavern with a feel of being in a home. The bar is in the basment and the eating room overlooks the lake. They also have a deck for the summer months.

Google
First timers here at the Lakehouse Tavern. It was on my list of places to try for quite some time and we happened to be in the area. Upon our visit it was not too busy. We waited a few minutes for a table to be prepared and we went upstairs to dine. Upstairs there was only one other table seated inside and one table seated outside. Our food was fresh and had great taste but we did wait probably an hour and total visit was close to 2 hours. We didn't mind the wait at all and its super understanding. We would love to come back again in the future and try something new.

Google
Place was a genuine pleasure, Talk about finding a gem in the middle of nowhere! Food was delicious, beer was fresh cold and served with a smile. Place was booming so it took a minute for my food, all good things are worth the wait. Atmosphere was super inviting and upbeat.

Google
Our first time here and we will be back!! Wanted to sit on the back patio but found out we should have called for reservations, now we know :) We got rueben with unbelievably huge onion rings, scallops wrapped in bacon (made there for sure), bowl of chili and a side Caesar. Everything was just awesome, and we are picky. Couldn’t believe the bill was so reasonable. Great service, very attentive and the tavern was very clean.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I spent some time up at the Hopkinton-Everett ATV trails and wanted to stop for a bite to eat in the area. I found this place on maps and decided to stop in- the parking lot was PACKED and we were starting to look for other restaurants because we were worried about the wait time. There was two couples infront of us, and we were initially told 25-30 min wait and we were sat within the first 15 minutes! The host was pleasant and very nice. He asked us where we were from and had a nice quick conversation. He was busy running around bussing tables while seating everyone while taking phone calls- shoutout to him for being so amazing!! We were sat and our server came over shortly. I notified her of a gluten intolerance and ordered the pesto salmon and my boyfriend had The Gentleman's burger. Unfortunately my side Caesar salad did come with croutons on it- but other than that the dressing was the best I've ever had. I'm knocking one star off for the lack of attention to allergy warning, but I can have some cross contamination so it wasn't a huge deal for me. The pesto salmon was absolutely delicious and the mashed potatoes were perfectly cooked. My boyfriend said it was one of the better burgers he's had. Food did take a while to come out, so we entertained ourselves with some table games- so make a reservation and plan on a bit of a wait. It was a cute little place that had an upstairs with an outdoor patio- we were sat in the downstairs bar. Plenty of seating and it wasn't as crowded as we were led to believe from the parking lot. I would definitely make the trip back to visit them- everyone was super kind and food was delicious. I would be a little wary if you are celiac though.

Yelp
The food was amazing the service was pretty good. Very historic looking place. We ate in the basement can't wait to make it upstairs for dinner sometime

Yelp
The only redeeming quality of this experience was the view, and it was quite lovely. However that's where the good times ended. We were told it would be 20-25 minutes for a table on the patio, and we were happy to wait. Sat at the bar, had a drink and about 30 minutes later were taken to our table. The server came up pretty quickly the first time, but after that would be gone for very long periods of time. We ordered the Lakehouse dip and a burger which took an hour to come out and both were inedible. The dip had been sitting so long the bread was soggy all the way through and didn't taste like it had been seasoned at all. The burger had clearly been rushed on a hot grill because the center was just cold raw ground beef. After a few bites we couldn't stomach it so we waited again for the server to come out. She saw the uneaten plates when we asked for the bill and didn't ask if we wanted boxes so she clearly knew it was disgusting. Didn't ask if we wanted it remade, taken off the bill - nothing. I wouldn't recommend this place, this food, or this service to anyone.

Yelp
Food is ok but pricy. Ambiance is nice with choices. Inside, bar and seating in basement, lakeside terrace, and large dining room. Service is ok, except I was greeted at the door, and told I couldn't go in with my service dog. I had proof, but whoever he was told me it wasn't a service dog. He refused to let us in.

Yelp
Always good food, lots of choices and good drink specials Wings are amazing Mac n cheese is also fantastic

Yelp
We just came back from the absolute best dining experience! I called in the morning and asked for the table closest to the water on the deck. The lovely hostess saved us the best table in the house! My mom lives in a nursing home and I was taking her out to lunch to celebrate the holiday weekend. My daughter joined us after work. We were there for hours enjoying everything from the view, the drinks and food as well as the awesome service from the woman that is also the bartender!! Made my moms day and she said she'd be talking about this experience for a long time. Thank you all for your hard work and you should know you made our day perfect! Thank you so much, it meant a lot

Yelp
The Lakehouse Tavern is my dinner stop when headed to my second home in Vermont from Boston. The food is delicious, the ambiance is welcoming, the pricing reasonable and the serving staff friendly and competent. We recently met the owner, Richard Ridinger, with whom we engaged in conversation. Last Thursday I asked Richard for the recipe for the Caesar dressing, which was delicious, and he'll be sending it by email. The Tavern is right off Exit 4 on I-89 heading North, and Exit 5 when heading South. I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. Gastón

Yelp
Awesome food and service for a drop in without reservation. Outdoor seating was lovely.

Yelp
This was our second visit to the tavern and we were not disappointed. The food has consistently been very good. We really love the serving size- 4 ppl in our party and we all finished our meal without overdoing it (well except me, but I never finish- brought the other half of my sandwich home). We ordered the stuffed mushrooms appetizer and it came out hot and fresh- very delicious stuffing. Just enough for 2 mushroom lovers in our party. Everyone loved their dishes. My SIL requested the salmon in her greek salad to be very well done and it came out just barely done, but still very good. My BIL really enjoyed his chicken marsala, but mentioned the veggie medley was a tad bit salty. Hubby loved his chicken parm- he was very satisfied that the chicken serving was quite generous and the pasta was just enough. My turkey sandwich was delicious. The cranberry mayo really made the sandwich. Nice ambiance, plenty of wait staff and runners (all super nice and all smiles), and you can tell it's a very popular place as it was pretty full. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because we waited a long time for our check. The food service was pretty slow, but we didn't mind- as we were chatting and catching up with one another. Unfortunately we didn't get our check until probably 30-40 minutes after we finished our meal. Still highly recommend the tavern, as long as you have time to kill or are just leisurely having a meal with friends.

Yelp
Do yourself and the staff a favor and just call ahead! Places are short staffed and need all the help they can get. Put in a reservation. We called at 6 and they were able to seat us for 7:30 for 2. The place has a nice modern tavern vibe. We sat on the bar side. Food was good, waitstaff was friendly! Ordered the chili and French onion soup to start, both great starts. For dinner I got the godfather burger I think it was called. It had fried mozzarella and tomato sauce on it with basil. It was surprisingly bland. Needed salt and pepper at the very least. Burger was dry. Too much sauce made it soggy and messy. Fries were good. My partner got the fish and chips. Fish was good and flaky but the batter was pretty thick.

Yelp
2nd visit, sat in the tavern (downstairs) after a half hour wait at 5p Sunday. Lesson learned- make a reservation (no place to wait and have a drink) Food was delicious and plentiful, lost 1 star for a really terse server that made us rollout eyes after each brief interaction.

Cheryl C.

Yelp
Typically I love the food here. Tonights meal was a flop. Green Curry dish with eggplant, mushrooms, and basil, rice. I added chicken. First I love green curry dishes because they are milder. This was so spicy I couldn't taste the meal. Who puts white potatoes in a curry? Why? I expected to see typical green curry color from lime, cilantro, basil, etc. this was just brown. Big failure. I will be back because I like other meals but not ordering this again. Also my husband ordered a side of Cole slaw and was served french fries. Guess we picked an off night.

Yelp
Came here for girls night and loved it! Tried two cocktails from the mule series which were delicious! Inventive flavors and not overly sweet! The creme brûlée was a much needed treat, crunchy and so fresh! The tuna tataki was delightful with really well selected tuna, crunchy tasty wontons and fresh lettuce! Above all, the location is super charming overlooking a lake and the staff are super sweet!!

Yelp
We were traveling through Hopkinton on the way from Burlington VT to our home on Cape Cod so stopped at Lakehouse Tavern for lunch. My wife had a Lakehouse Reuben and loved it. The corned beef was thickly sliced and, according to her was delicious. I had a variation on a Cobb salad that had also corned beef and turkey and was also delicious. When we arrived the place was busy but the service was prompt and friendly. We also are fans of old taverns and this tavern seemed like an authentic old tavern so fit the bill for great ambiance. Overall, we thought this was a great local find that we never would have discovered without Yelp.

Ian P.

Yelp
Fourth time coming here, leaving after i was told 25 min, after almost 30 min my wife went in to find out she didn't put a name in, and we would have to wait another 25min. Every-time we come there we cant sit at wide open tables tables, we had parties of 4-8, walk out the door. This will be the last time we waist or time driving over 65min drive!

Yelp
Cool spot to enjoy a sunny summer afternoon! Hannah our server was super friendly and the exact level of attentive for perfect service. Deck is doggy friendly and having real water bowls is a great add. Scallop and Mango salad was prepared perfect! Burgers are great! Thanks for a nice stop on our little road trip!

Yelp
I have been here many times over the years as I enjoy the atmosphere. I know that every time I go the service is going to be slow, yet I wanted to believe things could get better. At this point I will no longer eat there. The food is good, but the service (especially in the bar) is extremely slow. The older female bartender never smiles and won't even acknowledge your presence unless you are a "regular" even while seated at the bar directly. Despite her longevity with the restaurant, she is rude, and should not be employed in hospitality.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Entrees were so so. Sandwiches and burgers with fries were really good. The upstairs dining room is very nice, but the bar area is dark and dingy looking. Service was good.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
This place was such an awesome hidden gem! I can't say enough about the scallops appetizer. Delicate, warm, immensely delicious and melts in your mouth. Service was pretty good. Atmosphere is cozy. We will definitely be going here again.

Yelp
We were looking for something different than our usual places in Concord. Called ahead to see if there was a wait and were gruffly told we needed to make reservations- which we did for 20 minutes later. Meh, no big deal. Seated when we got there and the waitress was helpful. Menu had a good variety of sandwiches and plates. Wife ordered the special- a mushroom MAC burger with onion rings. I got a chicken sandwich and fries. We weren't in a big hurry but it did take a long time to get our food. When it came out, the mushroom burger was very overcooked, was missing the cheese, and had unexpected mayo. The onion rings looked great but weirdly had no flavor and worse, they were soaked with grease. Could only eat half and left the rest. I had what I thought would be a somewhat healthy chicken sandwich but found the chicken fried and overcooked. The fries started hot and salty but quickly got hard and chewy. We saw a lot of people there and kind of wondered how it was busy with such disappointing food. The bar was pretty full for a midafternoon Saturday. Prices were reasonable if the food were good, but we regretted not going to any of our reliable places. It was an adventure to try a new place but definitely not something we would try again. I'm guessing that as long as they are doing well there will be no effort to improve the food.

Yelp
Nate, Hannah, and the staff were great. They have my pup a water and we're very courteous that she was a puppy still learning b/c this was her first restaurant experience! My food was fantastic and so was my drink! I also got my pup some veggie sticks and a burger(as she is on a raw diet and it was dinner time!) and she enjoyed them as well. They were all very sweet and even the other patrons didn't mind having her their! Highly recommend and will go again!

Tom B.

Yelp
Called to place a takeout order and was asked for how many. I said a few sandwiches and was put on hold for 4 minutes only to have this rude young lady get back on the line and tell me they can't do takeout orders! This place is an absolute joke.

Julie S.

Yelp
Very disappointing meal. The mahi-mahi was the smallest person I've ever seen, and the chicken Marsala was chewy. Definitely over cooked. The side dishes were baked potato, and a vegetable which they considered sweet potato to be. No bread. And while the wait staff was prompt, they were dressed in ill fitting blue jeans and T-shirts. I understand there is a staffing problem these days but this used to be a somewhat elegant dining area. I would say they've gone downhill.
google avatar

Yelp
Cozy bar..stopped in for drinks and appetizers. Bacon wrapped scallops were perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. Fun staff, great drinks!
google avatar

Brittani O.

Yelp
Did not end up eating there. Arrived and while it seemed there were people, not overflowing. Asked to sit on the patio and it was an hour wait. Asked if we could order takeout so we could sit by the lake ourselves and they had to ask the kitchen who then denied us. Finally asked if we could sit anywhere and it was a 20 minute wait and then said you can't wait here you have to wait outside. Decided to leave and have a lovely lunch bar TBonesn

Nina H.

Yelp
Fantastic food made on premises. Warm pub style atmosphere downstairs and casual more contemporary dining upstairs. Seasonal patio overlooks the lake. Pleasant wait staff. Excellent beer selection. We have never had a bad meal here.
google avatar

Ellen R.

Yelp
It's most tasty! Also have a nice view of lake if sit outside. Their service doing well.

Bridget M.

Yelp
Stopped in as we drove by. Were ignored at the front door for 10 minutes, finally got seated, and find they're was no longer a salad bar; the entire reason we chose this place. Boring, unhealthy bar food.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Great location, great porch view of the lake, great beer selection, and great customer service (Thanks Olivia)! I ordered the prime rib which was good sized and cooked to medium rare: my style. My wife ordered a street tips and hers were also very tasty. Both meals had well seasoned side dishes of potatoes and vegetables.
google avatar

Carol S.

Yelp
We ordered take-out from here on Sunday, 4/23/23. For the 2nd time in 3.weeks there was no turkey for the birdman sandwich. My husband ordered the house burger. I specifically asked for it to be extremely well done. It was not. We ordered nachos with chili. I was quite surprised when I opened up the container and found onion soup instead of chili. I asked for coleslaw with my fish and chips, and at no time did I request no dressing. I got 3 little cups of chopped cabbage. Needless to say, our meals were very disappointing.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Gosh, horrible experience and I don't entirely understand why it happened. Seemed like laziness and happenstance more than anything. Arrived, placed our order, then proceeded to watch 4 tables that arrived after us receive their food. When we finally did receive our food (only after inquiring several times), one of our dishes had clearly been reheated several times. We sent it back. The waitress then asked us if we wanted the dish replaced. Which was so odd because usually, when you order something, it's because you want it. But in this case we were just done. We asked for our check and got the heck out of there.
google avatar

Terri H.

Yelp
We found this place as we were driving from Vermont to Maine. Excellent food! We had to wait a while for a table then for our lunch, but wow was it worth it. Wait staff was working so hard to take care of all their patrons.

Darryl P.

Yelp
We had dinner tonight...our waitress was less than friendly. The male bartender took care of our needs more than our waitress did. My wife's prime rib was fantastic as she tells it. My chowder was less than desirable. My burger...was a burger. The service has really gone down hill since they opened.
google avatar

Carrissa L.

Yelp
Perfect place to stop off of I-89 AND/OR if your local/New Englanders! We are on our way to Vermont from Mass and so glad we found this place to stop. Casual and warm, cozy, low key, dinner and drinks. Live guitar music was a plus. Nice staff and local guests. Great service and food including delicious NY strip and shrimp vodka sauce pasta and French onion soup. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Stephen B.

Yelp
Ordered two entrees and an appetizer in the middle of the day in the middle of the week. Didn't get the appetizer for almost 25 minutes, and our entrees until almost 40 minutes after we ordered. With wait times this long in the middle of the week, I'd hate to have come here on a weekend.

Robert L.

Yelp
1st time there the bartender asked me if I had any money? Nice way to be greeted. Did NOT know they charge extra for celery and a slice of carrot when you get chicken wings! My second time there, I usually get buffalo chicken wings. Again the charge for 2 pieces of dried up vegetables, this time the buffalo wings were terrible!!very fatty and not so great to eat.The drinks were great.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food great people. And ylp wants a story so it will post my review. I am only 14 more words to finish.

Euclea R.

Yelp
This review would be 5 stars if it is strictly for Ella or Emma (sorry I'm hard of hearing), who led us to our tables on the deck. She greeted us with a smile, and made every attempt to accommodate our preference to have our large group sit all at one table. She helped us move tables and manage the table umbrellas. Truly customer service oriented. *** Other things didn't go as smoothly. Another waitress came out and told us to move the tables back. We did, but she didn't help. The 2nd waitress also chastised us for not making a reservation. The water came out 45 minutes after we placed the orders. The food came out 45 + minutes after that.
google avatar

Carly B.

Yelp
Really like this place. The service is good and the food is excellent. They seem to have lots of regulars and even if he parking lot looks full, there are usually open tables. Excited to see the place when winter is over. There were people fishing in the pond once when we were there and we are told you can see an otter family occasionally. Bathrooms are always clean and well stocked. Servers are knowledgeable and friendly. The onion rings are amazing! We've had the reuben and the chicken breast/turkey sandwich and they were also fabulous. This time, we tried the lobster fritters, piping hot and full of flavor and chunks of lobster. The Prime Rib Lakehouse Club didn't have a lot of meat in it, but what was there was very good. We love the beer selection, always seasonal and rotating here, but we noticed after paying (see picture of receipt) that our draft beers were $8 and $8.50. Wow! That's VERY high for draft beers, especially for a normal size 16 oz. in this area. That would make us reconsider coming back and hanging out, which makes us sad.

Yelp
Came for dinner a few nights ago and had a pretty good experience with the family. I think they were short-staffed, because the food took almost an hour. We didn't notice at first since there were 7 of us and we were busy chatting. Waiter was very friendly and comped us coffees for the wait. Everything we ate was pretty good with the exception of the Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu. The breading wrapping the chicken was over-fried and hard. Perhaps it was forgotten in the fryer. I had the Patty Melt, which is a nice concept. Basically a grilled cheese sandwich with a burger patty. They had good kids options, which is always a plus. I uploaded some shots of the menu. Nice ambience in the upstairs dining area, as well. If you're ever passing through this area of New Hampshire, you can drop in here and check it out for yourself.

Yelp
Living in N. Concord I've driven by this place & was always curious. My boyfriend & I will definitely be back. We sat at the bar for an hour or so, enjoyed a couple drinks and then ordered our main dish to go. We had teriyaki wings to start, he had the shrimp scampi & I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. I'm only giving 4 stars and not 5 bc we I ordered my sandwich on a wrap and by the time I got home, I realized it was on a brioche the way it was supposed to come. Not a big deal, it was delicious.

Thomas N.

Yelp
Interesting spot with some nice outside seating....seems very busy on weekends but pretty busy today (friday)....service was pleasant but slow, it didn't really matter to us but if i needed something quickly might be different.....food was interesting and good we had the reuben dip which was very good, the banh mi burger, different and good and the poor boy shrimp sandwich, also good, martinis ordered with no vermouth had vermouth but we lived through it.....interesting place and interesting food...

Peter H.

Yelp
Had a reservation for 8 people at 4:00. Food did not come out until well after 5:00. The very rude owner then had the nerve to come to our table and tell us we had to leave because we had been there too long!! I could not believe it. We should have just taken him up on since we still had not even gotten our bill. I would never go back here and I would not recommend it to anyone. Do not patronize such a rude person. Concord is just down the road with plenty of better options. You have been warned.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with the Lakehouse! Their drinks are delicious, beer list is always exciting, and every item on the menu that we've tried has been fantastic. They have a great variety of seating between the bar, dining room, and patio, and the servers are always super friendly and fast.

Mo W.

Yelp
Everything I've ever ordered is amazing. High quality food. Gets busy and sometimes servers are short. Nowadays staffing is really tough and staff works really hard.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing view from the outdoor deck, only about a 1 mile detour from I-89 (and only one turn off the exit). Excellent food, service, and social distancing!! We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch yesterday. Great spot...lots of character. Excellent staff...very attentive. Atmosphere was cozy, friendly, rustic...great place! Food hit the spot. We will definitely stop here again!
