"Oakland’s Lakeshore Cafe is closing its doors after 22 years. The owners announced the closure via Instagram, writing that the restaurant will shutter as of Monday, May 27. “We have been honored to be part of this community and incredibly grateful for your support throughout the years, and we want to assure you that this decision was not taken lightly,” the post reads. The message goes on to say that a new restaurant will take over the space shortly." - Dianne de Guzman

We was in town for a week, we were staying in Oakland in an air in the we decided to go here for breakfast and we was not disappointed good food, large portions good weight staff wish we had found them earlier and we came into town. Very good place.

Google
Yum! Got a delicious brunch here on the weekend. Loved the huevos rancheros and the French toast. Plus the breakfast potatoes were a great addition. The outdoor space was cute although looks like the plants were still recovering from winter. Will definitely be back!

Google
Omg, I'm from Texas and this was the absolute best meal I had my entire stay on the West Coast. The service was amazing everyone was friendly. The food was fresh and hot. I wish we would have come here sooner. I'll be back!

Google
Excellent place to eat a delicious breakfast, parking at a good time will help you a lot. affordable prices and very friendly staff at all times.

Google
Always on the itinerary before I leave the Bay. Mimis hit here for the low. They even held it down with to go mimis during covid. good breakfast food, service is always good. The atmosphere is thick with town vibes.

Google
Came for the first time to have eggs Benedict off a recommendation. Delicious! It's a very small Cafe though with a bit of a wait depending when you come. Make sure to put your name on the wait list or your standing outside for nothing. Cafe is warm inside due to the sun beaming in from the outside. Great breakfast! Check it out!

Google
The Eggs Benedict was so good! It was reasonably priced and the hollandaise was excellent. I like my hollandaise with a nice amount of lemon and they had the perfect mix. The mimosas were also very good and they have a lot of different flavors to choose from like strawberry, grapefruit, apple, cranberry and of course the classic orange juice mimosa. I can't wait to get my friends to this place for brunch some time.

Google
I took my husband here and he loved it! He had french toast and i had the joes special. We both cleaned the plate.

Yelp
Totally adequate. Nothing noteworthy or special, other than the vegan sausage which isn't all that common. Nice people, good service.

Sanna A.

Yelp
We went for a quick brunch at this spot. It's located near lake Merritt. It was easy to find and easy parking. Remember to pay at the meter because they are always giving tickets around that area. Food was 3.5/5. The place was very spacious and great for groups. They were very nice and came back to check up on us a few times. We did get asked a few times to not speak loud, but that could of been because it wasn't very busy and our voices echoed.

Carolus B.

Yelp
Quaint, cute, and cozy. The cafe is a great place to people watch over a hearty delicious meal. I've started to put this cafe in heavy rotation as the food and mimosas are a great way to start a Saturday. The staff was quick to seat and serve us, coming to refill coffee three times. They were helpful in providing suggestions about the best items on the menu. I've been a few times, and have not had a bad meal yet. They even have good food for non-carnivores as well.

Emily L.

Yelp
This place has a bunch of reviews and an average of 4.6 but I don't understand what kind of taste these people have/ after experiencing it, I could make better breakfast at home. The potatoes look much better than they taste, very very bland. The omelet was a large portion, but the flavors didn't really pop at all: it was kinda watery too. The sourdough was very plain and came out hard as a rock. The coffee was good; and had a unique peach mimosa made with purée. The challah French toast was actually super delicious, probably the best bite that I had. As for the service; that was exceptional. Barbie was attentive to our requests and helpful, when we asked for cream instead of half and half, as well as very timely in refilling our coffee and taking our orders. The environment outside was cute too, I did enjoy the garden like atmosphere. Still wouldn't come back though

Becca T.

Yelp
First time here, ever. Meant to go to a cafe on Grand Ave and ended up here. You write your name down, wait outside to be called. Was called within 5 minutes. Originally chose outside, host sat us inside and when asked to be seated outside, said there were no umbrellas. (Think she meant well overall) There was and a nice busser opened it up for us. Ordered Moscow mule special for $8 and a latte. Drinks came out fast food a nice paced out time after. The sausage link as I was told was really good tasted straight from the grill, my chicken with the side of pico de gallo complimented really well. Overall food was pretty okay, outside space is beautiful. Inside has some nooks for a more private dining experience. Outside back area or a nook on the side right wall would be my designated space of choosing. Rebekah our server was attentive. My preferred type of dining, she seemed to know when to come in and food and drinks were delivered at a wonderful pace. Total ended up being $35/person before tip. 3 beverages 2 mains +side dish Would come again

Kelly L.

Yelp
Really like coming here for breakfast. Nice people, good solid breakfast and I love the inside, I think it's decorated very cute and love the natural lighting and plants all around :) Can get very busy on weekends so I usually go on Fridays if I can

RICHARD J.

Yelp
The food was amazing and hot I feel like I had a personal chef. The vibe was chill relaxing and the right mix of music that was the perfect tone to have a conversation. This is a new fav for me

Falana H.

Yelp
I loved this spot for a quick breakfast and I am sad that they are now closed. I hope all of the staff is doing well. You are missed

Nusret K.

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly service! If you want to have nice lunch, this place is highly recommended!

Dave F.

Yelp
we have frequented this delightful spot on numerous occasions, and it's high time we shared our experiences. Our visits typically align with weekend movie outings. To beat the crowd, we aim for an optimal time, and thankfully, the staff excels at swiftly preparing tables, ensuring minimal wait times. Our orders here have never disappointed, with each menu choice bringing satisfaction. The team, always brimming with positivity, makes regular rounds to ensure our needs are met. The prices are fair, cementing our decision to keep coming back to this café.

Monika C.

Yelp
I would like to preface this by saying the customer service was great, the portions were in abundance and that is why I gave them 2 stars. The biggest issue I had to put it simply is that the food (all of it) was bland. For what we spent on the meal, I would have rather eaten elsewhere. And in a city where good food is everywhere, you have to show up for your business. The prices did not match the meal. I love quality and I got quantity. I had a Joe's (i think thats what its called) omelet and it cost me somewhere around $18. It tasted like it was worth $10 at best. The potatoes were salt less and appeared to have some sort of Indian take on them. Truthfully, I myself make better breakfast meals at home. I ordered chicken strips at $8 for 3 what appeared to be pieces of chicken. I have been to bowling alleys that had better chicken strips for less. My breakfast companion didn't even receive his proper order and had to watch his food get cold for them to correct the order. Now here's the deal...I paid my bill, did not complain. But I would never recommend this place to anyone based on my experience. And for thIe record, I did not choose this to patron this establishment. My friends did. The prior reviews alone would have made me steer clear. My recommendation- go over the bridge to Alameda and enjoy good, consistent food that is quality and worth prices being charged.

Jen L.

Yelp
We came here for brunch with a party of 7. We put our name on the wait-list and waited for about 30 minutes which wasn't too bad since there are stores in the area to poke your head into. We were slightly worried we would have we would have to wait a long time given the large party but four tables left at the same time. The server was really friendly but when there was a mix up with a drink, she didn't really offer an apology. Another staff member brought out a Pomegranate Mimosa vs a Pomegranate Lemonade and a child almost had alcohol. The food came out in a decent amount of time and all the dishes looked delicious. I had the Lakeshore Omelette and subbed for Jack Cheese, Corn Tortillas, and French Fries. It was as yummy omelette. My son had the French Toast with bananas and he very much enjoyed it. My husband had the Huevos Rancheros and he said it was good and he liked it.

William P.

Yelp
Meh. The people who work here are super cool, and the service was great. The food? Just ok. Not great, and a little spendy. Coffee wasn't great. Location, location, location.

Migdalia R.

Yelp
Friendly and nice server. The omelettes were extremely greasy and overly priced although we asked for no potatoes or bread. They didn't bring us silverware, we had to get it ourselves. Honestly, not worth it!

Yansa T.

Yelp
I usually visit Lakeshore Cafe on Friday mornings for breakfast which to me has the best breakfast in Oakland. I like that when you first arrive at Lakeshore Cafe you are promptly greeted by a server that allows you to sit anywhere within the restaurant you'd like and leisurely peruse the menu. I always order the Lakeshore Breakfast which consists of two eggs, choice of meat, toast and home fried potatoes. I order either coffee or fresh squeezed orange juice with my breakfast. The food is delicious, fluffy eggs, crispy bacon and home fried potatoes served with sour cream, onions and bell peppers. The portions are large so I have two pieces of bacon to bring home for my big,fat cocker spaniel. Lakeshore Cafe is clean, spacious and have great views of Lakeshore Avenue especially if you choose to sit near a window and people watch. The prices are reasonable too for a cafe in the area.

Keira H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland! The food is great and everything is very reasonably priced. I love the ambiance and all the cute Oakland decor. The service is excellent and we are always well taken care of. Highly recommend!

Neveen M.

Yelp
Hands down the best breakfast in Oakland. Ordered the joes special. Can't eat potatoes so I subbed the fresh fruit, not disappointed! My partner ordered the same but with potatoes... smelled so good. Also ordered the pancakes with fresh strawberries. Just an all around great meal. Our go to for breakfast from now on.

Shirleen A.

Yelp
Pancakes are fluffy and good. Served with plenty of butter and syrup. Servers are friendly and check back on ya! Kept my coffee cup filled! Felt warm and clean .

Kevin P.

Yelp
this place is so good dude u just gotta go. the prices are good. the food is delicious. they serve big portions. it's not gourmet! it's good diner food. the ambiance is serene. it's peaceful. it's like your friend's backyard. the indoor area is cute, too. the service was OK. i had to be a little patient. that's good, right? practicing patience. but yeah i highly recommend checking out lakeshore cafe. you will like it. you'll be like, "man, i wish breakfast time would come sooner so i can go back to lakeshore cafe." yep.

Rachel M.

Yelp
The location of this cafe is prime on popular Lakeshore Ace and it looks like it's been here for a while. I gave it a try since I usually like to sample different brunch spots. Ambiance was bright and welcoming- I liked the beautiful wall mural inside. There was also ample seating indoor and a nice outdoor patio. I ordered the corned beef hash breakfast. Big portions but the ratio of corned beef to potatoes/onions was way off. I felt like there was just a sprinkle of corned beef. The flavors were ok and potatoes were cooked well. My over easy eggs were a bit harder than I'd liked. Service was a bit slow but server was nice. Overall, it was a mediocre brunch spot- I feel like quantity was valued more than the quality, however. I'd probably give the crab Benedict a try if I were to return.

Winnie L.

Yelp
It's been a minute because of COVID, but here's a review of one of the most frequent places I order takeout from! TADA to one of the best breakfast/brunch places I've ever had takeout from !! I usually order the lakeshore omelet which is HEAVY- don't get me wrong , this is a GOOD thing! And it's not a fluke bc I ordered different omelets several times, all equally THICC !! So you know they're not skimping on ingredients ! Taste: 8/10 it's good. The portion size is good and the taste :) ! Overall: 8/10 I would recommend this place for a chill breakfast/brunch.

Roy G.

Yelp
I just moved to the Lakeshore neighborhood recently, and while there's a large number of breakfast/brunch/cafe-type places in the area, I think this one stands out above the rest. The food was great with large portions, their drinks are cheap and plentiful in variety, the servers were accommodating and they have a cute patio in the back where you can eat outside without being very exposed to the cold. Even on a Sunday morning the wait wasn't long so I see this place as an ideal brunch spot, and will be returning in the future !

Danielle R.

Yelp
The staff is always friendly The food is delicious! The chilaquiles plate was excellent and the beans are really good. They have the most beautiful patio ever

Nikole G.

Yelp
First of all.. on a Saturday afternoon, my sister and I were seated immediately. The restaurant was very busy, so I guess we picked the perfect time to go. I ordered the California omelette, and my sister ordered the hash. The potatoes were seasoned extremely well, and my omelette, which had bacon, avocado, onions and cheese was very good! A little too much cheese in my opinion, but not so much that I wanted to throw it away. There was so much food that I could only eat half. $4.95 mimosas. Small glass. Meh. I won't take away a star. But.... I'll pregame next time if need be. I'd definitely come back next time I come home.

Jen L.

Yelp
What a lovely small neighborhood restaurant! We sat on the patio on a Sunday morning and it felt like a little hidden gem. I was super happy with my daily special of avocado toast with an overeasy egg. It was huge and the bread was delicious. I also had a lovely mimosa. My friends loved their breakfasts too and the free flowing coffee. Great price and locale!

Jonaya P.

Yelp
It was my first time trying! I had two pancakes, two eggs, and chicken apple sausage. The food was your average diner food. The staff were sweet & professional. I'd come back and try something else. I love the vibe of eating outside. It's intimate.

Melinda Smith A.

Yelp
A favorite in Oakland! A cafe that's got class, great food and super staff. We live in LA and visit every time we come.

Cliff S.

Yelp
So, I'm reading these reviews and finding a lot of mixed ones. I've been here twice so far, but I'm going to base my review off of the 2nd time. Scene: hungover from the night before Time: 10:30AM We got seated fairly quickly, its kind of your typical cafe, its not the nicest place, which quite frankly I really don't give a sh!t about. I'm looking for good service and awesome food. Anywho, we got seated fairly quickly and the breakfast menu looked WAY better than the lunch menu. Breakfast it is. Ordered the eggs benedict my friends did and I ordered the corn beef hash, needles to say I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't unimpressed either. It was pretty good though! I can't lie. Perfect amount of food to where I wouldn't barf it all up as soon as I sat up and enough to satisfy my hunger from the night before. Wasn't overcooked or anything, just hit the spot. All in all, if you're looking for a quick bite to eat and don't know where to go for morning food, go here. Not the greatest, but not the worst, just in that spot in the middle that's right for everyone.

Elisha A.

Yelp
Lakeshore Cafe has plenty of pros and cons. Mostly pros. The food goods outweighs the bad, so it's worth a visit anyway. Lakeshores Cafe has a very good selection of breakfast, brunch, and lunch specials. They do an excellent job of delivering good quality tasting food for very reasonable prices. Everything is usually good hot and fresh. I can rarely remember a time I was displeased with my food. The service is even well. My waiters have always been prompt and professional. What needs to be addressed is the fly problem they have. Every time I come here, they're flies everywhere! Bugging people and landing on food surfaces. It's really a nuisance. The restaurant would be perfect with its lovely views of passer byers. Other than the fly issues, they are a really good establishment. They are located where there are tons of activities and exciting things to adventure nearby. All kinds of stores and eateries. I suggest it's worth a try, regardless of the flies.

Shania C.

Yelp
This is a great place for brunch! There is a waitlist but they got me and my family seated in no time. I would recommend making a reservation. Ambiance was chill and airy, clean and spacious. They also have a outside patio as well. Now the food was so good and nice portions! Me and my family had no complaints. Would definitely recommend.

Tania D.

Yelp
Extremely fast service, i can tell you we ordered and the food did not even take 15 minutes to arrive. The menu is full of comfort classics, super fresh and taste delicious.

Weilynn T.

Yelp
Been coming here for years with my dad as a teenager. When me and my girlfriend decided to go here for breakfast I wanted to try their mimosas since I was always too young. Holy shit are they strong and for $5 too I couldn't complain. Amazing food, cheap mimosas that actually hit you, clean bathrooms. What more can I ask for.

Nicholas C.

Yelp
I've been here before and it was good food and I really enjoyed sitting in the patio. Today though I arrived at 8:55 and the rude waitress who didn't say hello or good morning.... Just said "No" when I asked to sit in the patio with my family. We asked again and she said it doesn't open until 9am. Ok, we can wait but she then set up a table inside and said "sit there". I have two young kids and was trying to sit outside for the benefit of the cafe and the patrons. It was terrible customer service! I had to leave and we walked over to Grand Lake Kitchen and were greeted with a much more enjoyable vibe and the food was amazing. Lakeshore Cafe lost a customer for life and I will never recommend this place... ever.

Shercole K.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time at Lakeshore Cafe! I had the opportunity to visit the location for a Sunday brunch with friends while in town. Such a great neighborhood restaurant! Even with so many people visiting, we were still able to be seated right away. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Atmosphere. We decided to eat outside, which was like eating in a little forest. The weather was great and vines everywhere it was pretty and relaxing and truly was delightful. For my meal, I went with the Grand Ave Combo, which was a GREAT DECISION. The pancakes were delicious and huge. It has been so long since I had some delicious pancakes and made me feel like home. The eggs were just right and the apple sausage was tasty. I really have no regrets with this breakfast what so ever. This is a great place to check out for a lowkey breakfast outing. There is ample street parking in the area, so you really shouldn't have any problems there as well.

Cindy L.

Yelp
This place isn't terrible but I'm reluctant to come back because there's higher quality food all around. Candidly, I want to give them 1 star for the food but am bumping an extra star due to their quick seating/decent service. Arrived Memorial day, yesterday, with my friend for breakfast (10am ish). I ordered an omelet (sausage, spinach, cheese, pico de gallo) that came with potatoes and toast; friend had a single french toast. Total was ~19 before tip. We were seated immediately and I have no complaints about their service. The real issue I have is with their food. My meal wasn't good (especially not for a ~13 dollar plate) plate and I'm pretty sure my omelete was microwaved before being brought to me. The plate was very hot, there was some liquid under my omelet, my omelete was rubbery, bland, and really hot compared to the rest of my plate. This is why I believe my omelet was microwaved before being brought to me. Even though my omelete was really hot, my potatoes were cold and cooked poorly. The outside of the potatoes were mushy and the inside were hard, temperature was on the colder side of luke warm. Everything was bland. I ordered sour dough toast on the side, I was given cheap sliced white bread that came cold. Other feedback: -our table was broken and kept rocking back and forth -our waitress took our order, dropped it off, and never came back; I said their service was fine because they had two bus boys that walked around refilling water -decor needs updating -outdoor tables are really gross

Debbie L.

Yelp
I love that Lakeshore Cafe has retained some sort of homey-ness and homemade feel through its food and patrons in the center of the more bougie, privileged feel of Lakeshore Avenue. There's amble cafe seating, and a cute back patio with 6-7 tables. The servers are attentive and friendly, the portions are decently priced and sized, and the food was yummy. The potatoes weren't overly greasy. One suggestion is that fruit and salad should not be an additional $2 for swapping. In a day and age where well-being and health are partly attributed to diet, restaurants should be encouraging and not punishing patrons and community members for choosing to eat healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables as opposed to fried potatoes. I'm pretty sure across the street at Trader Joe's potatoes and mixed greens are comparable in price. Other than that, I enjoyed the ambiance, fellow diners, food, price and will be back!

Calitta A.

Yelp
The food was decent however the waiter was the worst. As soon as we sat down we told the waiter we wanted bottomless mimosas and the waiter responded " which flavor would you like?". She then proceeded to tell us they only have 2 flavors (orange and strawberry). We told the waiter we would like both flavors, just bring a different flavor every time we are done with our mimosa and she replied "okay". Finally at the end of our visit we looked at the receipt and see we were charged for each mimosa we had. We told the waiter she forgot to put bottomless on our receipt and she responded back "oh, I'm sorry we don't have bottomless mimosas". Me and my party was so upset because she misled us to thinking in the beginning that they had bottomless mimosas. As you can imagine, our bill was something crazy because of the waiter's failure to tell us the truth in the beginning.

Rachel D.

Yelp
Lakeshore cafe , has been consistently a great restaurant. It's good for friends , families, lunch dates, lunch break, break-fast. The food is great! They have daily specials as well. This is basically your local go to spot. Ive been coming here for decades. The sister restaurant is Oakland Grill, which is another great restaurant (basically the same menu) . I normally meet friends here for brunch , but, have noooo problem treating myself... the house coffee is strong free refills. Lots of vegetarian options or you can just ask for no meat in a dish that has it!.... I normally replace my side eggs with side of fresh fruit.

Emily X.

Yelp
Belgian Waffle (as I said in my previous review) is the way to go. One huge waffle will keep you going for awhile. Didn't find it overly sweet. It was nice and thick. Service was fast and attentive. I think the food is overpriced (especially the toppings). Came here early-ish in the morning (10:30) and the food came out pretty quick.

Misha T.

Yelp
It's kind of a middling tuna melt. But there also isn't anything like actively bad about it. It's a bit too greasy and the fries were kinda bitter, maybe from using old oil. But this is a greasy spoon diner and neither of those issues are unacceptable in that context. I live close enough that it's convenient, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Mishelle L.

Yelp
Wonderful it was my first time here, I joked at the cashier with -wow u are 6 feet away , I ordered a tuna melt with salad, and chicken sandwich with fries! That salad and tuna me was amazing it cost a pretty penny but worth it. I will be back when I'm n town again Great job

Fresh E.

Yelp
I don't eat here often enough. When I do, I'm always pleased with the quality, flavor and portion of my meals! I'm so glad they are working with staying open during COVID. This is one of the local places you don't want to see close until the owners choose to retire it. On my last visit I had the Spanish omelet. It was fluffy, flavorful, generous - Yummy! I got the rye toast cause I try to stay away from gluten. The quality of the bread sat well in my belly. The potatoes were perfectly fried and seasoned. I would share a photo but I ate it too quickly!! I've had other yummy breakfasts there in the past, and really loved the Spinach salad as well! Definitely check it out!

Heres J.

Yelp
CRUDDY TABLES, FOOD SO-SO I eat at Lakeshore Cafe once in a while, and several months ago I dinged them here for having disgustingly dirty glass-topped tables. They didn't bother cleaning underneath the glass when it eventually got dirty. They hopped to it after I wrote a letter to the manager, but now it's back to crud city. The food is so-so. Home fries have a really weird taste. French toast is OK, but I asked them to put the butter right on it instead of on the side as places will sometimes toss a couple of those rock-hard cubes on the side and unless the FT or pancakes come out really hot, it ain't going to melt. Anyway, she brought me a thing of melted butter, which was kind of weird. It's a nice-looking place, and some of the food is OK, but there are enough problems that I'm going to go there less in the future and, well, that's not the way you want to feel about a restaurant.

Błånćo S.

Yelp
Not hardly as good as it looks. This is disgusting I should've went with my first mind. The scramble is watery potatoes tastes like wood. My first and last time ordering from here. I should've known.

Seema K.

Yelp
Stopped here on an impulse for brunch. Great location, parking can be difficult and there is a wait on weekends. Really cool decor and good selection of typical brunch items. We ordered the wet burrito which is described as having chorizo, potatoes and avocado. It's really tasty but mine had more potatoes than chorizo or avocado. Portion sizes are huge! You can eat a half and take the rest to go easily, at least that's what I did. The strawberry mimosa didn't resonate with my spouse, the strawberry flavor was weak and sour? His order of Joes special which is ground beef with eggs and other ingredients was great. Keep in mind that they charge extra for egg whites and other stuff.

Nicki S.

Yelp
Wanted to love this place but it fell short on both service and quality of food. We had a party of 3 and the tuna melt was super great as was the bagel and salmon. Where this place sucked was the Reuben. This thing came out with the wrong side for starters, then the amount of corned beef was borderline comical. For $12 you would think they could have made a nice big sandwich but this thing was sadder than any Reuben ever. There was one small piece of meat and it didn't even fill up the toast! I essentially had a cheese and sauerkraut sandwich. (See the photo). I wish they could have made this thing proper. We told the waitress about and she brought out after like 10 minutes 6 pieces of corned beef to add to it. At that point wouldn't the smarter thing to have been to have the chef properly just make it so they could balance out the kraut with everything? You would have thought. Waitress never even apologized. Everything else here was great but definitely not a winner in understanding portion control. Or how to properly handle the situation.

Olivia C.

Yelp
Best Belgian waffle ever? Yes, quite possibly. My friend encouraged me to meet up for brunch here. We went at noon on a Saturday and were seated within minutes. Since Saturday is also farmers market by Lakeshore and Grand, I think most people were wandering around there instead. My friend and I both ordered the Belgian waffle and orange juice. Our orange juice came first and then the waffles. The waffles were just the right amount of crunchy sweet but still moist and not overcooked. I am definitely coming back just for the waffle and telling my waffle-loving friend to come with me. My over easy eggs were a little undercooked which is why I docked a star so I'll probably order scrambled in the future. We also got fruit with our meal which was a nice dessert. The service was good. One gentleman kept coming by and offered us water and then kept refilling our water glasses after asking if we'd like more water.

Semret T.

Yelp
Lakeshore Cafe is my favorite place to go on my off day! Shelly who has been my server for the past 1 year is just so amazing! She is very sweet and kind and always makes us feel welcomed. She is the reason why I like to come back, for her amazing customer service and of course the delicious food...

Jude D.

Yelp
I am loving that this spot offers take away mimosas on the weekends! And they're only five bucks! It's an excellent and cheap little treat to get on the weekends.
