Montreal’s Best Indian Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"Founded six years ago in Côte-des-Neiges, Lakshana’s now comprises two additional outposts — one in Parc-Ex, the other in Shaughnessy Village. A casual BYOB, it serves an all-halal South Indian menu, with a tiffin special that includes a mini masala dosa, ghee pongal (rice and yellow moong lentil porridge), rava kesari (a sweet saffron and semolina pudding), and more." - JP Karwacki

Had an absolutely delightful experience at Lakshana’s Chettinadu South Indian Restaurant! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality — especially by Manmeet, who made sure we felt welcomed and comfortable throughout our visit. I ordered the Chicken 65 Biryani and Lamb Biryani, and both dishes exceeded expectations. The Chicken 65 Biryani was packed with flavor — crispy, well-marinated chicken pieces layered over aromatic, spiced rice. The chicken was tender inside and perfectly crispy on the outside, giving it that authentic South Indian street-style touch. The Lamb Biryani was equally impressive — the mutton was cooked just right, soft, juicy, and full of rich masala flavor. You could really tell the biryani had been slow-cooked with care. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were very reasonable given the quality and authenticity of the food. The ambiance was clean, cozy, and family-friendly, making it a great spot for casual dining or weekend takeouts. The service was prompt and attentive, and it really added to the overall experience. If you’re looking for authentic Chettinadu flavors, great service, and comforting South Indian food at a fair price, Lakshana’s is a must-try. Definitely adding this to my list of go-to places!

I ordered the Paneer Podi Masala Dosa and Mysore Masala Dosa. The paneer dosa was disappointing — combining paneer with potato masala just doesn’t work well together. Most restaurants serve either paneer or potato as separate fillings, but not both. Unfortunately, after a long wait, the dish arrived tasting bland and poorly balanced. Not worth the wait. Not going again ever back!! Needs improvement

The best spot for enjoying authentic South Indian dishes. The thali is really delicious. Nazrin, you were very helpful and kind. It’s gestures like yours that leave a lasting impression on customers.

Really disappointed with the Sambar Idli I got for takeaway. The box was barely half full seriously? And the whole thing was just floating in oil. On top of that, it was soo….. salty I couldn’t even eat it properly. Honestly felt like a total waste of money. Didn’t expect this kind of quality at all.

I hope the management takes this seriously and improves both food safety standards and staff professionalism. I Visited this place at sainte Catherine location for dinner with a friend and found a thread inside the dosa. I politely informed a staff member, but she ignored it at first and continued serving other customers. After asking again, she took the plate to the kitchen but returned with the same dish and said they’d replace it—without removing it or apologizing and charged regular price. No apology, no proper response. Very poor customer service and handling. Won’t be coming back.

the food was fine. nothing that blew me away but the best thing we got was the special tiffin on the metal tray. everything else was underwhelming

Food was quite good. Good flavours coming through. They gently modulated the level of spice for our young accompanying guest. Staff was friendly and amenable to our special requests and questions regarding the house specialties. I can see myself coming back.
