15 Best Sugar Shacks (or Cabanes à Sucre) Near Montreal | Eater Montreal

"It may be over a hundred years old, but Lalande doesn’t look it. One of the more manicured experiences when it comes to sugar shacks around Montreal, their massive facilities are open year-round as an event venue. But from March 16 to April 24, their sugar shack offering is available, with prices ranging from $23.48 to $31.31 per adult, depending on the time and day of the week. They excel at hosting large groups, so don’t shy away from bringing the whole (extended) family along with you. Prices per child range from $10.44 to $20.78 depending on age." - JP Karwacki

They catered our workplace and it was fantastic. The food was tasty, authentic and freshly made. The staff were kind and welcoming.

With lots of negative reviews, I was weary. But honestly, all in all, the food was great! We were a group of 30, yet the service was quick and efficient. When they brought each service, I was worried about the small dishes and that it would take a long time to get some more to satisfy the group. For example the plate of potatoes is a small tiny plate for like 5-6 people. Same goes for the other dishes. But the servers were great at seeing what was missing and were on point. For me, the highlights was the thick cut bacon and ragoût aux boulettes, and everything they offered for dessert was exceptional - tarte au sucre, pudding chômeur, pancakes and ice cream. I’m assuming the bad comments about slow service and lack of food likely has to do with a very busy night combined with the small size of the dishes and perhaps the kitchen’s inability to furnish a large room. That wasn’t our experience though. Tire sur la neige wasn’t too great. They could also use a facelift - the decor is “homey” and somewhat old school, but starts to border on a cheap and old look in some regards. Overall we enjoyed it and would come back!

We had our wedding August 2023 at Lalande. I could not ask for a better day. I really felt taken care of, and Claude Charbonneau really eased our stresses and made sure everything was going to run smooth which it did. The Staff was wonderful. My only minor critiques which would have made everything perfect to a T was that we were suppose to have the poutine come out at a certain time but it came out kind of late and many of the guest had to leave. Besides that I really felt the venue was perfect, easy to work with when bringing your decor and got all our questions answered that we needed as planning a wedding without a wedding planner is not easy. But honestly we are grateful and I got to marry my best friend. ❤️ Merci

We had a great time at Lalande. Our kids enjoyed Sugar Shack here. I like the fact is that we can book table in advance which is very helpful for family with young kids. Everything is well organized. There was some other activity such as face painting for children. You have to pay for horse carriage arround the farm if you want to try. Nice service and delicous foods. Thank you!

I can’t say enough good things about this venue. My husband and I got married here this past Saturday and right when I arrived I felt so taken care of. The set up was stunning. The service and support was amazing. The food was beyond delicious. The staff attended to every need and always with a smile. I would recommend this place to any and every one for their future wedding or special event. Thank you so much to the entire Lalande team for making my husband and my’s day so incredibly magical.

Came across this gem of a place and stopped by on a rd trip elsewhere. This place is rather large, great for wedding parties or other. Even have a chapel outside. Beautiful surroundings

Hmmmm.. I really don't understand the $30/person.. too much for a tiny bowl of soup, eggs, beans from a can, oily cold meat, oily fries, disgusting oily hot dog, a tiny pancake as a desert and a horrible coffee then at the end some maple syrup on snow to call it a day.. lousy slow service with lousier food quality...

Yelp
I love sugar shack season and Cabane a Sucre Lalande is a solid place to have an authentic Quebecois styled sugar shack experience! This sugar shack has a mix of activities for adults and kids alike with the standard fare of things to do. There's the horse ride, an animal farm and a place to have some maple taffy. The hall is rather big with 2 different eating areas providing a different "dining" experience. Lalande manages to not make it feel like a commercial experience that so many of their competitors (ex: Constantin) completely fails to achieve. The single best thing I like about this place was the ROUND table we had for our party of 10...WITH REAL SEATS YO!! They managed to turn one of the more negative pain points of the Sugar Shack experience to a positive one. Comfortable seating and able to see and socialize with friends with family. Albeit this is not the case for the entire hall, but I'll take this experience every year! Another positive item was the service we had from Manon. She was so sweet and friendly and did her job so well! This is a special thing to note as these sugar shack waitress experiences tend to feel quite wooden and forgettable. Bon travail Manon!!! Enjoy your tip! The experience here was friendly and warm. There was an animator seeing local folk songs with a bunch of happy patrons dancing away with a bunch of kids burning off all that sugar as they broke it down on the dance floor. So much twerking. I will admit I was very amused after hearing the animator singing "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to the 25th person or so after an hour. He looks palatably amused as well. As for the food, it's the standard fare you have at Sugar Shacks. Eggs, bacon, ham, bread, hot dogs, cretons, potatoes, oreilles de crisssssssssssssssssss, sugar pie, poudding CHOMAGE, flapjacks, etc. All in all, very satisfactory. Only item would be the poudding chomeur not being prepped as I normally like it. The maple taffy experience was great. A bit of a line-up but we all understand why... soooo yummy. My only negative points would be the animals. Frankly the horses stank and looked dirty. They should be taken better care of and be cleaned on a regular basis. The animal farm was small, caged off but not too small. There were chickens, ducks, pigeons, goats, sheep, alpacas and a hamburger. I'm not a fan of these small farms albeit the kids like to see them and feed them. The $1 for handful of feed is a bad deal. In conclusion, this cabane a sucre was solid experience and I'd go back. It's just 15 minutes off the island and worth the trip.

Yelp
We had a big group of 48 people here on Sunday morning. The halls are huge and the staff are super friendly. The food itself was ok, some highlights were the potatoes and the meatballs. Jean-François Thibaud did a great job entertaining all guests with music from young and old. Not bad prices for seniors and younger kids but for adults the $28 is not a great value. They don't make maple syrup here, they buy it from other sugar shacks.
