Best Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes in Manchester, New Hampshire - Eater Boston

"This family-owned diner with eclectic decor serves classic Hungarian fare, including beef goulash, stuffed cabbage, zucchini and meatballs, and chicken schnitzel. Customers should be sure to save room for dessert, specifically the dobos torte: eight layers of roasted almond sponge cake with chocolate buttercream and caramel." - Ariela Shapiro

Great selection of hungarian pastries (for example Dobos torta, Linzer) and dishes (such as goulash). We had a beef goulash with pasta and rice and Wiener schnitzel with potatoes. Both were delicious. But nothing matched the Dobos torta desert. Simply amazing!!

I ordered the stuffed cabbage and it was better than my Pop-Pop used to make. It was exploding with flavor and the texture was spot on! I haven't had authentic food that is this flavorful and simply delicious in a very long time. I originally came in for a pastry and ended up with that plus food, I'm so glad I stopped by! The owner has a great story and the ladies' bathroom is all pink tile! I can't wait to come back!

Nice and authentic Hungarian place. Traditional dishes like the stuffed bell pepper and goulash make nice lunch options. Suprisingly nice homemade ice tea. Worth a visit!

The older gentleman was quite a delight to chat with. Very friendly, kind and worked with a smile. We ordered the schnitzel and goulash and also got the ham and wax bean soup which came with a roll. The roll may have been a week old. It was hard, dry and stale. And the meat in our entrees was a bit dry and tough. However we still enjoyed our meal and would return and be willing to try it again.

Tender pork schnitzel food was very good however the place needs some modern updates and cleaning.

Beautiful little spot. Very comfy and relaxing you can tell its owned by a older couple. And I mean that in a good way. The food/desserts are tasty and well priced. I would recommend to anyone trying something different. The only blemish would be the hours (7-3) which does not give much eating time for 9-5 workers who infact would miss lunch/dinner times altogether.

Love the goulash and schnitzel that Lalas has. Definitely have to try the reasonably priced desserts, too, they're twice as delicious as they look! The owner really treats you like a guest in his home, service has always been excellent the many times I've been here.

I had never had traditional Hungarian cuisine before trying Lala's and I'm wanting more! The stuffed cabbage was seasoned and cooked perfectly, The goulash was meaty and hearty and served with a side of rice (great way to absorb all the delicious broth) and cooked carrots that were super sweet. Purchased several pastries to take home and try later. The parking is a bit difficult because it is all street parking only but there are so many fabulous shops up and down the road I suggest parking close and enjoy the walk.
