Yelp
Lalo's Fine Mexican Food on Plano Pkwy at Park in Plano, TX, definitely lives up to its name. My wife and I thought we would try them out for lunch today. We had heard great things about them on the neighbor's app. Nothing we heard prepared us for what we found. The exterior is nothing special. Just at the end of a strip center with nothing to really distinguish it. However, when you step in you can't help but be impressed. This is not your stereotypical Mexican Restaurant. This place could be any type of upscale dining. There is soft music in the background, but nothing distracting. Ligting is on the dimmer side as you would expect from a fine dining establishment. There is a bar that looks well organized, as well as properly stocked. The staff were attentive and friendly. After being asked for our drink order, they brought us out chips with both a salsa and a warm bean sauce. Both were wonderful. The menu offered a good variety of not only TexMex favorites but also traditional Mexican dishes. At first I thought the prices might be a little high compared to your local neighborhood Mexican place, but this is not your typical Mexican place. When compared against places like Mi Cocina, the prices seemed right in line and we discovered that the food was even better. While waiting for our food I noticed two things. First, the silverware. It was substantial and gave the impression of quality. It told me that these people pay attention to detail. Second, I observed an elderly woman with someone who appeared to be her son. They were getting up to leave and the woman obviously needed assistance in getting up from her chair. As the son was assisting her up, a waiter rushed over to assist with moving her chair out of her way. He then went ahead of them to open the door for them. It was a seemingly small act of kindness, but one that spoke volumes to me. He didn't have to help, but he did. This symbolizes the spirit of service that I observed here. When the food arrived, everything looked wonderful. Very nicely played. My wife had ordered one of their lunch specials. It included a chicken enchilada and a brisket taco, rice and avocado salad. My meal had both a beef as well as a cheese enchilada, a beef taco, rice and an avocado salad. The flavors and textures of everything exuded homemade quality food. There was nothing typical about any of the items. The rice had more of a cilantro lime feeling as opposed to the typical Mexican rice. The beans were refried black beans. The chicken in the enchilada was moist and flavorful. The beef in the enchilada and my taco was nicely seasoned and well drained so my crispy taco stayed crispy. My wife's brisket taco had a soft corn tortilla with a nice portion of brisket. And the wait staff checked on us often enough to make sure our water stayed full and chips were refilled without feeling like they were always imposing on us.
In short......this place is awesome. It would be a great spot to have a date night, dinner with friends or a business lunch.
