L’Alquimista - Review - Eixample - Valencia - The Infatuation

"L’Alquimista is a hidden shrine to fresh pasta. The tiny place is intimate, with a terrace that soaks up perfect sun, and the air always smells like browned butter and truffle.. Chef Mario Tarro turns his grandmother’s Italian recipes into something brilliant—like pillowy ricotta-stuffed pasta in tomato-sage sauce, velvety carbonara that comes out rich and peppery, or a parmesan flan that might send you into a cheese-induced existential crisis. The porchetta piadina, or crispy pork belly wrapped in flatbread with a smear of sharp mustard, is a must. The tasting menu used to be a bottomless dream but is now capped at three skillets—still solid, but ordering à la carte is the move if you want flexibility (and to dodge the pricey wine list). This is the spot for a long, lazy lunch with a bottle of wine, or a weeknight date when you want to feel like you’re in a friend’s Italian kitchen." - David Neimanis

Google
The food is no doubt super good quality as they only use fresh ingredients and they even make their own pastas! However since it’s a small business, the service isn’t the fastest, so you’d be expected to wait for a while to be attended. But the waiters are really nice and if you have no idea what to order they can always give you good recommendations.

Incredible hand made, fresh, authentic Italian pasta. The server was so helpful in choosing my food and wine for the meal, and I loved every bite of it.

Google
Cozy and authentic italian restaurant. Welcomed with a lot of friendliness and hospitality. We chose the degustation menu, which was a great selection of 3 entrants, 3 pasta and 3 deserts. Enjoyed every bit of it. Thank you and keep up the great food! 🙌🏼

Google
It is very small with very few workers, but the taste is still amazing. The interior was also quite cozy and comfortable. The waitress sort of pressured the customers into ordering many different appetisers and plates, but that’s just her job and she does her job extremely well. There is a broad menu with varieties of choices, and somehow all their plates are amazing. This restaurant deserves a five stars, and I will definitely return.

Google
L'Alquimista is definitely a pasta lovers place where you can enjoy real home made pasta with tasty piadinas particularly from Emila Romagna region. This is a small cozy place similar to local Osterias where you can find mostly in Italy and the great thing about the place is not only the delicious pasta and piadinas but also the owners are real wine lovers and they can offer amazing wines particularly from Italy and Spain. Since the restaurant is small booking in advance is a must. I would highly recommend this restaurant especially for fresh pasta and wine lovers.

Awesome experience! The food was extremely good, freshly made. We had two small children in the group so they made some pasta especially for them. Definitely will return and recommend.

Google
W O W E E SENSATIONAL. The best pasta we’ve ever eaten. The freshness, the attention to detail and the flavour are like nothing you’ve ever experienced. The reviews are all true it’s amazing. We booked a table but fortunately it was quiet on a Thursday evening and we were okay. Less than 40 euros for 2 courses and a drink each and we couldn’t have been more dazzled. The service was incredible .. you need to get yourself here. 11/10

Pasta is just amazing, very tasty. Also try their chocolate cake, it's super delicious. People are friendly and nice, I totally recommend this place!

Yelp
Delicious Italian food with a Spanish flair can be found in this tiny Ruzafa spot (you definitely need reservations). With an open kitchen concept and only seven or so tables, you really feel that you're being cooked authentic, tasty food only for you. We did the tasting menu and had three delicious main dish pastas along side perfectly chilled wine, and tapa style accoutrements. Everything was served on unique dishes or straight from the stove pans, definitely a unique experience. Bonus: la cuenta came in the cutest little mini shopping cart!

Yelp
My last meal in Valencia was sadly this one. Sadly because I wish I had discovered them earlier so I could have visited them every other day. The pasta was incredible! It was by far the best pasta I had in Valencia, and also in most other cities I have visited IN THE WORLD. I wish I had been hungrier and could have ordered the tasting menu, which is really worth it considering how many dishes you get to try, but I knew I didn't want to waste precious stomach space on appetizers and just wanted to fill my tummy with pasta. I was torn between the spaghetto chitarra, the taglioni tartufo, and the pappardelle with mushrooms (porcini), but I decided on the spaghetto since the pictures of this pasta was what had drawn me to this restaurant in the first place. This place is also the second place I have ever gone to that offers this type of pasta (it is nothing like your typical spaghetti so flush that from your mind). It really reminds me of a type of Asian egg noodle, especially the texture, and is really delicious and chewy. I'm so sad I am now at the airport about to fly away from this restaurant. Sad times.

Yelp
Really good Italian restaurant. Everything thing there is homemade really in front of you. Was interesting to taste great food and even to learn how to prepare it. Additionally, for who is interesting on the price, it was fair (honestly I was expecting way more of what I paid). If you're visiting Valencia and you want try real Italian food jump there ... and you'll be satisfied!

Yelp
Yep... And that's where I would conclude my review. This place is spot on! The best! We were wandering around Russafa at dinnertime. My bookmarked places were all packed so we had to go off the trusty app and go rogue. Although, to be completely honest... this place had shown up in searches before. We walk into a tiny, four tables only place. Normally, forget about walk-ins but somehow we were lucky and they put us three at a 2-person table underneath the bar. Pretty odd at first but after dinner i was happy that I was able to experience this. We went for the menu of €20 but asked for one dish with truffle for 2 people. That would add €5 to the menu. And trust me... I would have killed if I didn't tried it and knew it was that good. Perfect buttery pasta with a load of truffle! I died and went to heaven. All the other dishes were amazing as well. From starter to dessert and service was pretty fast. But really... that truffle pasta...

Yelp
I've been all over Italy with the finest cuisines and this was exactly as good as the finest Italian restaurants. The staff is wonderful and will treat you like family. Just be sure to make a reservation! Also, the directions led us to a wrong building. Please keep looking. We almost gave up and that would have been a terrible mistake. It's there and it's wonderful!

Yelp
Wonderful dinner here while staying in Valencia for a week. Staff was very attentive and warm and had good recommendations for wine and food. The pasta is so fresh (they literally make the spaghetti when you order it - as in roll/cut the dough then and there!) my only regret is not doing the full course tasting menu both for the array of food and the portions (a starter salad and pasta dish each night leave you wanting more). Definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
Had a craving for pasta, found this place by the "reviews". The place is tiny (4-5 tables) so when we got in the waiter advised us 30 min dinning time due to upcoming reservation. Based on waiters suggestion, we ordered Ravioli with lemon and butter sauce which was tasteless, the disappointing part was the portion, tiny as the restaurant. Literally 10 Ravioli (150 gr) for 9,00€ is way overpriced. However, the Pappardelle with Wild Boar worths every cents!

Yelp
Simple, elegant, delicious. It is no surprise that one must make reservations ahead of time to get a table here as the people at L'Alquimista are bringing the taste of Italy to Valencia. From the pasta to the soups, to the menu of day, they do no wrong. If you enjoy American style pasta swimming in sauce, this place is NOT for you. Instead menu caters to delicate dishes, and deep drawn out flavors. I dislike pumpkin in savory dishes however their pumpkin soup erased all discrimination. The house-made tagliatelle noodles with fresh grated black truffle romanced my nose and tongue. Prices and portions are very fair, however if you are looking for a table, you must call ahead of time to reserve a table at 1 of only 2 seatings per day. It is well worth the trouble.

Yelp
Food: Outstanding. Service: Apparently, we irritated the staff by ordering food. So, this restaurant is teeny-tiny (5 tables) but was highly recommended as a place to get outstanding Italian food. For the most part, that is totally correct, because the plates we ordered were served quickly. The portions are small but very, very good, and perfect for sharing a few main dishes between two people, because the cooking pan is placed on the table for serving. The flavors were outstanding, and the pasta was excellent. One thing to remember: you will need to ask for bread, because that is a separate order. Reservations are highly recommended! When we ordered, one of the dishes that we ordered was missing, and the waiter apparently did not add that to the list of things for our table when he gave it to the kitchen. However, we still wanted that particular item, so we requested that he bring it. Did I mention the restaurant was small? Well, when we could see the waiter complaining about the fact that we ordered more food (¡gasp!) to the kitchen staff, his waiter card should have been revoked *right then*. For what the meal cost, I expected a high-end Italian meal experience, not a great meal accompanied by a crappy waiter who was offended that we actually ordered food for our table. Since we were there about 1.5 hours, he had plenty of chances to redeem himself... but that was not going to happen. One final insult: When we paid (by credit card), the waiter took the slips of paper from the charge and the credit card device and just walked away. No "thank you", no "we hope to see you again", just turned his back on us and walked off. Don't worry, there are places where I can get insulted for a much cheaper price.

Yelp
L'Alquimista is small, but very cosy and authentic. One of those family-run places where you go and know you will be enjoying your meals. The staff is super friendly and would explain you the ingredients of any dish. Their pasta is fresh and has the best quality. Honestly I'm obsessed: Italian cuisine in a Spanish restaurant is like heaven to me. The ravioli I tried was the most delicious food I've ate during my visit in Valencia. My second meal was meat-based and wasn't so impressive, but I was really stuffed and couldn't eat more anyway. The interior is tiny and there are just a few tables, so booking is a good option.

Yelp
One of the best Italian restaurants out of Italy. The pasta are homemade, tasty and are served in so many shapes and forms that you will exit this beautiful small place happy and full!

Yelp
For hungry Italian foodies This is a Italian jewel in Valencia. With just 5 tables you need to make a reservation. Try the degustation menu of 25 euro is a great deal! You can eat as much homemade pasta as you want, so go hungry! The chefs will cook right in front of you. You will start eating some delicious antipasti. After that they won't stop serving you pasta if you can finish the pans they put on the table. The pasta is an explosion of flavor, so you will eat more than you can... But be warned, there are excellent desserts coming! Have been there several times, and will come back soon. (I got hungry writing this)

Yelp
best. pasta. ever. we did the lunch tasting menu and it is worth every penny. if they have truffles, spend the extra amount and get them added, you won't regret it! honestly the pasta here is better than a lot of the pasta i had in italy! highly highly recommend!

Yelp
The L'alquimista is a precious Italian bistro placed in a cool, vibrant neighborhood. Simplemente deliciosa. We went there almost each day of our Valencia holiday. The food is simply amazing, what they can do with simple ingredients...mmmh, super tasty and delicious. I'm still dreaming about it. If only they would deliver internationally. :) :) :) The place is cozy and nice; it's small, so it's best you book in advance. But totally worth it because everything is fresh and top quality. It's like having your own private delicious culinary experience. The pasta is made by them, the bread as well, the cheese...and some of the dishes really remind me of my nonna's cooking. The guys are friendly and nice and always so welcoming, with a smile on their faces. I really recommend it. p.s.: oh, and the cappuccino is great, too !
