Lamego Hotel & Life

Rita at the front desk was the nicest, most helpful person we met in Portugal!||Spa was nice with excellent massages and facials. There is an indoor pool, lounge area, soaking tub (that really should be warmer) small sauna and steam room plus an outdoor pool. ||The hotel feels understaffed and there was often a wait to get a drink or be seated. There was no poolside service - bring your own towel from the room, bring your food out and back. For the price this was fine but if you are looking for a luxury experience you might find this lacking. ||The bar and restaurant were good but could be improved with more helpful staff and a wider range in the menu. ||The room was large and comfortable. There was an espresso maker but the staff seemed to always forget to refill the capsules. There is only one smallish window so there was not a lot of natural light. ||It was easy to get taxis and worth going into the quaint village of Lamego. A taxi to Pinhao was 60 euros one way. ||Overall a pleasant stay at a reasonable price.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at this hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome and taken care of – they were kind, attentive, and always ready with a smile. The atmosphere of the hotel is wonderful: relaxing, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. One of the highlights of our visit was the dinner – it was truly delicious, with excellent service that made the evening feel special. We also spent plenty of time by the pool, which was the perfect place to unwind and fully relax. The setting was peaceful, the facilities were clean and well-kept, and it made our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, this hotel offered us the perfect combination of comfort, great service, and a welcoming environment. We left feeling refreshed and grateful for such a memorable experience. We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay!

We came for a long weekend (3 nights) for a birthday as a couple. The stay was perfect. We contacted the hotel in advance and they organised our restaurants as well as booked us a day tour that visited a winery and took us on a train and boat down the river (currently listed as shared tour number 2). I had a lovely massage in the spa another day and we also used the gym each day. We ate breakfast in the restaurant, which was constantly being refreshed, and we also ate in the bar twice as they did a couple of delicious salads which were a welcome reprieve from rich restaurant dinners! I was worried about noise as I saw the comments on walls being thin and I’m a really light sleeper, but we were located at the end of a corridor and I slept the best I have done in weeks :)

We had an excellent stay and definitely recommend! The property was beautiful - the pool area was stunning and well maintained. The restaurant, bar and other common spaces were tastefully decorated and the room was spacious and relaxing. We particularly loved the indoor pool area which was quiet and it was nice to have the warmer indoor pool - the outdoor pool is heated but on a chilly morning it was still quite a brisk swim! ||Pros: |- Super friendly staff who are available to help with booking everything, including taxis, restaurants and winery visits. It was so nice to be able to craft our itinerary with their help|- The spaces felt luxurious but at a reasonable price point - really tastefully done and felt like a retreat from the world |- Plenty of spaces by both the indoor and outdoor pool to relax - we were there in Sept so not the peak of summer but still a prime time to visit the region, and we never felt like the hotel was crowded|- LOVED the vegan picnic lunch basket - tons of food and really delicious range of options, great for a winery visit but make sure to eat it quickly after it arrives as it’s best warm |- Really good veggie burger on the bar menu |- Excellent drink selection, we tried many of the wines which were all tasty and we loved the pina coladas! ||Cons: |- I was disappointed in the vegan options at dinner in the main restaurant - the vegetable pasta was very bland (not even plenty of salt and pepper did much) and had no protein, and the risotto was also bland and dry although the falafel it was served with was much more flavourful (even if it was an odd combination). Given how flavourful the vegan picnic basket was it’s a shame that the restaurant doesn’t offer better flavours for the vegan mains (and there were no vegan starters)|- Breakfast was a standard continental spread and the breads and spreads were particularly delicious (try the pumpkin jam on the raisin bread!) but again, few vegan options beyond the bread and fruit. It would have been great to see a vegan yogurt or vegan sausage or scrambled tofu |- We didn’t rent a car for our trip and relied on taxis to get around - you can expect to pay 20 euros for a taxi to or from Regua, which was more expensive than we expected. When visiting the wineries in the region, we planned to use the hotel’s taxi service and were quoted 35 euros to go 10 minutes from one winery to the other as the taxis were all coming from Lamego. Instead we asked the winery for a taxi number and they found local drivers with more reasonable prices. We knew that the location was going to be more remote when we booked but weren’t quite prepared for the taxi costs so it’s good to be aware of that going in! |- There’s not much to do in Lamego and while it is definitely walkable (about 20 mins, uphill on the way back) there aren’t many scenic walks around the area. It would have been better if we had a car and could go to some of the natural areas that the hotel recommended.

Hotel was a complete disappointment. The room had no working air conditioning and was unbearably hot. They told to keep the window open vs fixing the issue — in December cold and I ended up getting sick!! The internet in the room barely worked. Each time I complained, I was told it was “fixed,” but it never was. The only staff issue worth mentioning is the person at check-in, who was rude and unpleasant and set the tone for the stay. Breakfast was not what you expect at a premium price location. Overall, a frustrating experience and absolutely not worth the price. I would not recommend this hotel.

Lovely spa hotel with comfy beds, a great breakfast and gorgeous pool. We were welcomed with a glass a of wine, which was a nice touch, and the indoor pool area is so tranquil. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed our stay. The only slight niggles were that the hotel is in between two main roads, so traffic noise is noticeable. They also don’t have any irons.

I stayed 2 nights with my boyfriend, the room was very big, clean and the bed was massive. The SPA despite not being huge was very nice, we also had 2 relaxing massages. The pool and overall area outside was incredible. There was very wide choice for breakfast and very high quality.

Was initially disappointed with the hotel as the pictures on booking.com is completely different from reality. However that being said the staff were extremely friendly. The rooms are decent, however again not as in the pictures. Facilities were clean and my wife loved the SPA. Overall we are happy with our stay.
