Lamia's never makes the lists of NYC's most beautiful restaurants, and that's a good thing. Granted, beauty is in the eye of the beholder--and some would call Lamia's nautical-themed bonanza too kitschy to be beautiful. But I love it.
In the age of Instagram/TikTok, this is the kind of self-marketing that pays for itself. And decor-wise, they really leaned in. Not a single surface was left un-nauticalized, from the seashell-shaped sinks, to the turquoise walls textured to resemble ocean waves. Every room has a different aesthetic, and they're all photogenic. In short, this place is stunning, and your date will love it.
The food doesn't deliver quite as well, but if you know what to get, you're golden. Try the Squid Ink Linguine with Baby Crab Meat for seafood pasta glory. Skip the Hamachi Nobu, which was oversalted, and get the Tuna Tartare instead ($1 cheaper and much bigger portion). For drinks, definitely get the creamy, frothy, delicious Beachfront Views, but skip the pineapple margarita. And for dessert, the Chocolate Creme Brulee and Chocolate Brownie a la Mode (2 desserts in one) is solid, but the Tres Leches cake is better.
There were definitely service/pacing issues, so our meal took longer than it should have, but everything eventually got where it needed to go.
And Ike the manager (from Bayside, Queens, hollah!) is just the friendliest guy who makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
