Where To Have A Date In Williamsburg

"El Almacen is in prime Williamsburg just several feet from the Bedford L train stop, but it still manages to be somewhat under-the-radar. This is even more remarkable because they serve some great, affordable steak (in addition to many other things like empanadas and avocado fries), and the space is decorated like a little hunting lodge that you’d find in a very nice forest." - bryan kim

The Cool List: 17 Restaurants That Aren’t “Hot” But Are Definitely Still Cool

"El Almacén doesn’t get nearly as much attention as St. Anselm, but our vote for best inexpensive steak has officially been re-cast for this place. It’s also in Williamsburg, but it doesn’t get as busy. Stop by on a weeknight for some tacos and empanadas, or bring a date for a meal in their little dining room that’s decorated with old cast-iron pans. If it’s warm outside, sit in the backyard." - bryan kim, hillary reinsberg

Where To Eat Along The L Train

"There isn’t a lack of options around the Bedford L stop, but it can be hard to find a good place that isn’t completely packed when you’re trying to get dinner. El Almacen, however, is for some reason not too hard to get into. This charming Argentinian spot should please just about anyone you’re meeting - the steak is great, they serve avocado fries, the prices are reasonable, and they have a little backyard. It’s also only a few feet from the train stop." - bryan kim

Google
Fries had a refried soggy texture so they probably have been sitting there for a while and didn’t taste very good. Oysters are only two dollars each if you get a ten dollar drink. They are not very good and have a funny after taste. decor is cute though and music was good. Overall food felt underwhelming and service was also just ok… 😅

Google
This is a beautiful little hole in the wall. My friend and I had dirty martinis and oysters; I really appreciate the type of oysters used, they were a larger size and the condiments were perfect!

Delish dinner, at Lamonte last night. Such nice atmosphere, servers are sweet and attentive. We went for the Branzino and Calamari, both fresh and perfectly prepared. Cozied up by the window watching the world go by. A pleasant experience altogether!

Google
I celebrated my wife's birthday at Lamonte, a place we discovered through their intriguing website and online menu. The service was good, and the atmosphere was super cool, but the highlight was the spectacular food. While everything was great, the fried calamari stood out the most. We loved it so much that we ordered an extra serving to take home before we left.

Google
We first visited Lamonte one evening and absolutely loved it. We tried the Argentinian Empanadas Duo, and they were fantastic. We enjoyed it so much that we came back for brunch and had the Argentinian Steak Sandwich. As an Argentine living in the U.S., it was such a treat! The flavors took me back home.-- Although it’s not an exclusively Argentine restaurant. Highly recommended!

Google
Accidentally booked a wrong date res, but the staff was amazing and worked it out to fit us. The vibes were peak wburg, and the food followed suit. Highly recommend, especially before a night out. Also make sure to get the ceasar salad.

Google
Steak and fries were perfect! Peppercorn sauce was delicious, could have done with a bit more peppercorns, but so good.

Google
This place definitely has a really cute vibe, which initially got me excited. The ambiance was cozy and stylish, perfect for catching up over drinks. Unfortunately, the service didn’t quite match the atmosphere. Our waitress wasn’t very friendly, which made the overall experience a bit underwhelming. It felt like we were more of a bother than welcome guests. As for the drinks — while they were decent in taste, the portions were incredibly small. I know this seems to be a growing trend in Williamsburg lately, but come on... these were practically sips, not cocktails. Please, I beg you — go back to normal glass sizes! I promise your customers will appreciate it and be much more likely to return. Overall, not a terrible spot, but there’s definitely room for improvement, especially with service and value.

Yelp
Lamonte is a no doubt go to location. Aside from the impeccable service, the food is well prepared and blessed with the chefs kiss of flavor. I cannot input a review without mentioning the cocktails. Honestly the only location in Brooklyn I know I will always be served a PROPER and beautifully made cocktail. I see no future shortage of visitation at Lamonte and hope that if you're questioning that you give them a visit. A cozy but lively place that will never disappoint!!

Yelp

Yelp
Amazing oysters, got both the cold rn or mal and the oysters Rockefeller. Delish. Drinks are realllly good too. Whipped Ricotta was not good, very bland with no taste. The cacio pasta was soooo good. Ambiance is cute and small. Intimate perfect for a date night or even for a small group of friends Server wasn't the best and was pretty dismissive.

Yelp
WORST SERVICE IN BROOKLYN! Pls don't come here unless you're a regular and they know you. Came here for our anniversary around 10:10pm and they close at 12am. The lady working on June 19th was really nice and took our order but never checked back with us after taking the order. We wanted to order a wine with dinner but and put our empty glasses on the side but no one came up. I tried to say excuse me but no one heard me cuz they put the music at a max volume like a club. The tall man working seemed drunk and took our table from our original waitress. We sat there for over an hour when we wanted to order dessert but couldn't because no one told us last fall nothing or checks on us because they were too busy dancing with the regulars and talking to them. After over an hour the man asked to box our food up and he left it at the wrong table to someone else dining... after we asked to order dessert but he said they're kitchens closed but we had no idea because it was 11:15. We put in drinks but I just wanted to leave so bad because he seemed drunk and then he gave our check to another table too and we sat there waiting for a while to get our check when another table had it the whole time. Then he asked if we were closed out and it took us 10 times to say no while he yelled at the girl waitress. And he danced the rest the night with regulars at the bar. Never coming here. Pesto spaghetti wasn't that good but the bucatini and ricotta app was good. SUPER LOUD CLUB MUSIC DRUNK MALE SERVER WHO DIDNT KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING CHECKS ON U IF UR A REGULAR GUEST So if u like to just order one drink and a meal and not get checked on after over an hour with empty drinks and stuff then u can come here if you have time to kill while u wait for a check that is sitting at a wrong table too and ur food to go!

Yelp
Very cozy spot in Williamsburg and right off the L train. Not too busy during weekend brunch so we got to sit right by the window, which is great for people watching (and bonus, you can see the train times right out the window). Service was friendly and quick - I think they do bring a credit card reader to the table (?). Fried chicken sandwich - thought this was quite dry and could have used more seasoning. Fries that came with weren't that crispy but were well-seasoned. Good filling portion size.

Yelp
Came here for their happy hour on oysters. It took quite some time to receive our 10 oysters and although they were a deal there was A LOT of shell remnants in each one. it got to the point where i didn't really want more as i was guaranteed to be having one in my next bite. can't complain much again as there were each $2 but probably wouldn't come back again. I did like the interior and ambiance of the place though! would recommend the hugo spritz as a choice of drink

Yelp
I think I came in on an off night. I was at the restaurant for 2 hours when I should have only been there for 1. I came in without a reservation and was seated right away. There was no host so I had to walk up to the sole waitress for the whole restaurant. She was very friendly and made up for the weirdness of my night. The restaurant is cozy and warm. Good for a date night if it's a good night for Lamonte. I got the happy hour shrimp cocktail and oysters. You need to order a minimum of 5 shrimp and 6 oysters. Both were good but came out separately (they forgot to serve me my shrimp cocktail). Steak was delicious but not medium. I appreciate that they sliced it for me. Was good for leftovers the next day and surprisingly the fries held up. To make up for waiting so long for my food, I was offered free dessert. I ordered the strawberries and cream, and my God is it heavy on the cream. They should name it cream and strawberries. It was delicious but I wish they added more strawberries. Would I come again? I'll try a second time, but if my night is long like this again I'm peacing out and finding somewhere else to get happy hour at.

Yelp
Love this place. Happy hour, seafood and oysters, french feel. Such a cute bar/restaurant right by the bedford L. This place has multiple seating options in front, inside, or in the backyard. I chose the front where I got a perfect people watching view and to greet new diners. It's also right next to the stairs leading to the door, which feels very homey when waiters stroll down to check up on you. The deals are crazy, all day happy hour for oysters and shrimp cocktail. This was a perfect lunch: 6 oysters, white wine, and fries with a side of gravy. The waitress was helpful in suggesting wines and overall great. The oysters were delicious, though would often be stuck to the shell. Nbd. The wine was perfect, and the fries and gravy were so satisfying. Would definitely come back for a lazy sunday

Yelp
Secret gem in Williamsburg! Completely blown away by Lamonte. Being in Manhattan 24/7, we definitely don't get out to Brooklyn enough. This might have convinced me to make more of an effort. Per my friends recommendation she found this place on a whim. Our reservation was for 8pm on a Friday and this place was definitely buzzing. It is on the smaller, more intimate side. Drinks for starters - delicious. We got the pornstar martinis (multiple rounds might I add). For starters, the beer burrata A MUST HAVE. Filled with so much flavor and the bread was deliciously coated with herbs and butter. We couldn't get enough of it. My friends had the shrimp cocktail and were very impressed with the quality. For our mains, we got the chicken Milanese and one friend got the fish of the day. Again, big hits for us. The chicken was cooked to perfection and paired with this deliciously flavored mashed potato. We wanted to try the berries and cream for dessert but were way too full. Next time for sure. One thing I will mention was that at times we found it hard to flag our waitress down. I don't know if it was just her mood that day but she was a bit rude at times and not very accommodating to modifying drinks. A bit of a turn off but the rest of the employees were super nice!

Yelp
An amazing food spot in NYC. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. The prices are very affordable given the level of food that was provided. Our group split everything from the steaks, to the salads, to the dessert and appetizers. A great selection of clams and mussels that will not leave you dissatisfied. A beautiful interior making it a great group or date spot.

Yelp
Food was good but service was rude. One waitress/Hostess was very attentive and sweet however a male waiter, I didn't get his name just seemed annoyed and seamed like he just didn't want to take our order or answer any questions on the menu items. For example, I had asked for food recs and it was like an annoyance, they rolled their eyes. Overall, I could eat somewhere else with just as good food and get a much more friendly waitstaff for the same price tag.

A M.

Yelp
You are making up lies. I did not demand anything. I asked the host if the table in the middle was where we were going to sit and she said yes and asked if it would be okay to sit there while I wait. She said yes. Second, the key part of the discussion was as long as we left within seating limit we could start later no problem. We even discussed the Ramones photo on the menu as I thought it was an interesting touch. Third, no larger plates? So you're telling me if we order an entree, you would bring the food out on 4 small sharing plates. Please. You are conjuring up a scenario that did not occur and you have anger problems. Your own staff was taken back and said, I'm just trying to keep a straight face and apologized to us. It's why we gave them a cash tip because we didn't want them to be subject to your tantrum. For anyone that reads this, take it for what it is. 95% chance that this experience won't be yours, but it DID indeed happen.

Yelp
You really do feel like you're in a cozy French restaurant in France when you walk up those stairs to Lamonte . Talk about a great location right off the train stop, but you wouldn't tell once you walk through the door. This espresso martini was memorable. They added some nutmeg or something on top. I loved it. I'd just come back for that tbh. This spot is great for some drinks or a late diner which is what I came for . The sautéed kale was tasty with whatever they used to make it. My kale wouldn't taste like that and I wish I asked how they did it. The croquettes were alright but the sauce on top was fire . I shared the taltagli and steak with my partner. Everything was hot which is why it's an automatic 5/5 for me. The pictures don't do this restaurant justice on the delivery of these hot plates. I preferred the taltagli over the steak but that sauce that peppercorn sauce that went with the steak was marvelous . Oh our waitress was so nice and accommodating despite how busy it was . I've already told my friends about Lamonte as a nice date spot .

Yelp
Location, happy hour and moules frites. This pretty much covers the best things about Lamonte and what I recommend you come here for. The service and drinks are great too. What really brought us here was their all day happy hour, which is incredible if you are looking for a deal on drinks and oysters on a weekday, without the pressure of having to leave work early enough to make it before a happy hour ends, anywhere respectable in New York City. We got the gin martini, which is strong enough to knock your socks off. The oysters were honestly pretty terrible. They looked weirdly scrambled and didn't taste great. I'm just glad we didn't get sick from it so definitely stay away from them. We moved onto the moules frites and they were just gorgeous. The mussels were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delectable. It comes with a side of fries and bread for the table. It's an adorable little establishment, right off the L on Bedford Avenue so location wise, it's fairly easy to get to. It's a fun little spot to catch up with friends so I highly recommend coming here. Stay away from the oysters though.

Yelp
Great new place off the L Bedford stop in Williamsburg! @lamonteny is super cool place with great music! and of course amazing food and cocktails! We tried multiple cocktails! La Petite Mort: Mezcal, Tequila, ginger, fresh lime, pineapple, aquafaba (v) & Angostura bitters Bad Behavior: Spiced rum, passion fruit, Campari, fresh lime & soda : Lamonte Old Fashioned Bourbon, Orange and Angostura bitters, Edelerkirsh cherry liqueur & Luxardo cherry The food all exquisite! Tagliata: Sizzling thin sliced filet mignon with arugula and shaved parmesan Steak Au Poivre: Delicious Argentinian steak! With sautéed market greens , hand cut fries w/ au poivre sauce Pan tumaca y jamon: 24 month aged prosciutto, tomato, garlic, EVOO on a baguette

Yelp
Pretty mediocre all around. Didn't care for the food and on top of that the service was pompous. Williamsburg has too many options to waste your time here.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! The inside looks really nice and cozy. We came for dinner and drinks for a table of four. The drinks were good! Great martinis and wine. The food was not anything to rave about. The burger was nice it tasted like an elevated Big Mac. The fries are not good sadly, missing the crunch and just tasted soggy. The seafood paella was mushy rice and mini seafood medley. Not much flavors going on there. Would come back for drinks a light bites!

Yelp
this is a cute lil spot with great decor right off the bedford stop. the food was disappointing but the service was good! we got the mussels to share and i ordered cod and my boyfriend the ribeye. mussels: fine, salty but flavorless. the fries were good! cod: dry in the middle and the potatoes underneath were strange. ribeye (in my bf's words): ordered medium rare, served medium rare. a bit tough and could benefit from a little more seasoning, but all and all a good value (under $40 for a 12 oz ribeye, greens, and fries). whiskey options were limited but mixed drinks looked good! seems like the burger is the way to go but don't think we'll be back to try it :/

Yelp
I come to this establishment a ton , and me and my husband love it. However, I came here on a Saturday night , and the server had the decency to come to our table and tell everyone at the table that we were being loud and needed to be lower our voices. To give you context, my husband, who is the most amazing individual, is Paraguayan, and his freinds were Mexican, so some indviduals were not used to a certain crowd speaking loud.. First of all, the restaurant is Argentinian owned so I assume they would have respect for everyone, I was wrong, The manager came to our table and told us that I wasn't allowed to speak to the server after she completely embarrased my husband and his friends. Then, the owner and his workers came outside and got psychical with us regardless of us telling them what had occured. I'm so disappointed in this restaurant. The way they treated us, and how they embarrassed my husband and his friends. I will never come here again. One of the owner's freinds kicked my husband for no reason. We legit come here all the time and did nothing wrong. i am so upset , and embarrased for the way they treated my husband and his freinds. Again, this is a latin owned business and the owner did not want to hear our side of the story and allowed his workers to threaten us and get psychical for no reason.

Yelp
Came here randomly after walking by it several times and it wasn't bad. They have American-Italian food and the price is decent. I ordered the kale salad with chicken and for me it had a lot of dressing, but other than that it was good. I also had sangria which was good too. The restaurant is located right by the L train Bedford line, so it can get crowded in the front every 10 minutes. Lamonte has a hipster classy vibe to it. You don't have to dress up, but it would be hard not to since everyone in there is dressed up in some way. The service was okay, our waiter would walk off and sit and dine with other patrons that I'm guessing are their friends. So the vibe was very much low key and laid back. I would like to try this place one more time before I give it a proper rating.

Yelp
Went for brunch with friends on a rainy day. I miss El Almacen, but Lamonte made the space their own, it's pretty cute. The food was extremely bland, sort of like diner food, and although they were friendly, they did this thing at the end where they announced their credit card machine was broken - so we all had to scramble around for cash and to zelle and venmo everyone - ugh! - so awkward and annoying. The service was sleepy throughout, it's that Euro-style thing, where their head is in the clouds, dreaming of all things Catalan, Idk... Haven't been back, have had no desire, the superb Bistro So is literally right down the street.

Yelp
Incredible - everything a local neighborhood restaurant should be; cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and good old fashioned wholesome fare. We walked in on a Friday evening, and the Owner greeted us at the door and managed to squeeze us into a table for two. We had the Octopus to start (not on the menu), followed by sharing the Short Rib and Filet Mignon. Admittedly, my eyes being bigger than my belly, we ordered a side of fries...no need, the food was rich, heavy and incredibly filling. Made for a nice take-home bag. Everything else was spot on. Great service and ambience.

Yelp
Hands down best mussels in town. I've been coming here every week the past month. All of the food has been top notch quality at a very affordable price, especially for the Bedford stop location. The European decor and vibes are amazing, it's been a really great place to get drinks with friends at the bar.

Yelp
You MUST come here & get the butternut squash soup before it leaves the menu!!! Get a friend, tell them to get the pear salad, and share them both!! Talk to Mika at the bar -- he is the BEST!! This place is so stellar!
google avatar

Taylor L.

Yelp
Steak and Mashed potatoes for 36 dollars!?! Need I say more? This place is located right off the L a quick jump from city and is a VIBE! Highly highly recommend coming whether it's for drinks or dinner it will not disappoint! Will be our neighborhood go to for sure!

Yelp
Nice decor lovely wait staff but very inattentive bartender. I was the only customer at the bar and I had to waive him down. Don't you hate doing that?My dish wa very bland. Had the bartender bothered to check in I would have told him so and possibly sent the dish back. Absolutely no seasoning on my entire dish. This place is a hard pass.

Federico G.

Yelp
The old New York is back! Great food and even better service in a place that will take you straight back in the 80s. In the heart of Williamsburg. Cozy Argentinian vibes and great music selection. Highly recommended!

Eva S.

Yelp
This is My GO TO place in williamsburg since a few months! I love what they did with the place, the bar is lovely and i always have "the little death/la petite mort" cocktail! But more so this is where I go to eat my Moules Frites OMG delish!!!! The best in town, for sure! The owner gently came and explained I should squeeze the lemon on the side of the plate and not directly on the mussels! I know the burger is fantastic and so is the Boeuf Bourguignon! their Sicilian wine is also very unique, one of a kind, seriously. Lastly, I was very impressed with the deco and the elegant and arty atmosphere: throught the window marked with a Golden L, we can see already a Perfect lighting for a nice and sexy diner, the black and white prints and choice of photographs, the mirror on top of the bar and of course the backyard with the lit skull head. LOVE.

Henry H.

Yelp
Food and service was awesome. Definitely doing back. Fried chicken sandwich was really good.

Sophie P.

Yelp
THE WORST service I've had in a NYC restaurant. Straight up rude. Food was subpar at best. Not trying to be a Karen but this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.

calico j.

Yelp
Amazing food, ambience, and service! My favorite spot in Williamsburg for dinner and late night drinks, I swear the hottest people work here and eat here ! Enjoy !

Kathryn E.

Yelp
We have been to Lamonte before and really enjoyed it. Great staff, good food. Specifically my 11 year old kid loved their mussels. The two of us walked in today at 5pm, there were two people sitting at the bar and the rest of the place is completely empty. We were told they no longer accommodate anyone under the age of 21. Truly disappointing for the neighborhood families. Other restaurants have time restrictions (no one under 21 after a certain time) which I can understand, but flat out refusing customers seems strange.
google avatar

Sydney L.

Yelp
Really charming place that serves a nicely constructed menu that has something for everyone. Generous portions and great service. We had the bucatini, scallops, cheeseburger and moules. Moules comes with a heap of ciabatta and fries with onion rings. Affordable glamour without a wait, even for a big party. I have dairy allergy and they accommodated my allergy for the Moules, and they said the Spanish tortilla and scallops could be done without fair as well. After a round of espresso martinis, we were all sold on coming back.

Pamela R.

Yelp
ver chic cozy hidden gem, the hospitality is top! Very creative and tasty menu! excellent wine selection and top cocktail menu!

Gerardo C.

Yelp
Wow .. really good food .. I have to say the got the right ingredients . I have to try the drinks next time but food it's exquisite .!

Eddy F.

Yelp
Winning each and every time. My last visit I made a fool of myself cause I ordered practically everything. The service, forget it but the best. The owner Victor says welcome in every sense of the word. Please go visit as you will not be disappointed. What to get? Get it all

Yelp
We came here for happy hour and that was good. We loved the new ambience so much (this used to be a much loved Argentinian place) that we came back the following day for brunch. Oh and oh boy. That was interesting. The service was so-so. A bunch of young staff / foreign students (?) that was just so.... Mediterranean(?). A bit slow on the service, food coming out (despite being the only other party there) and we kept repeating my orders as well/ chasing it up. Granted it was a Saturday morning and theyre possibly hungover but still. My partner's Spanish omelette came out by itself despite the menu saying it comes with side of salad or fried. We had to ask for that. And then we also had a side of bacon which looked seriously undercooked / anemic. By that point, we were over the place.

drew r.

Yelp
This place was great!! Great ambiance, great service. Everyone was so nice and it was a chill yet lively vibe! The food was super good and I'm super glad we decided to eat here. Definitely recommend for all types of ages :)

Yelp
I have been in the neighborhood for the last 20 + years, this place has vibe that you can't find anymore these days. Food test incredible, drinks are good and always amazing music.
