Yelp
Just another gem hidden along the streets of Chinatown. Heard so many good things about Lam's Kitchen and finally made our way down. It's not a big restaurant, so plan to come a little before lunch hours to make sure you can get a seat. There were a few open tables when we arrived around 11am on a Saturday. Street parking is easy around that time on Pauahi as well. We also noticed a LOT of takeout orders, if that sounds easier for you.
The aunties are brisk but polite. Choose from a large selection of fresh look fun (like super soft chow funn) dishes, rice porridge (chinese style juk), or rice plates. Make sure you get a side of chinese donut with anything soupy and give it a good dip - so ono.
- Beef Rice Soup ($10.50) - Savory porridge, grainier than Korean juk and different spices. If you like juk, this is definitely worth trying. Massive serving with lots of beef, definitely want to try some different proteins next time.
- Duck Look Fun in Soup ($11.99) - Easily the star of the show. Big chonks of juicy braised duck, atop tender bokchoi and a mountain of fresh, soft look fun. Considering prices for a bowl of fresh noodles these days, this is an absolute steal.
- Beef w/ Black Bean Sauce Chow Fun ($13.50) - Bursting with savory black bean flavor and adorned with large, tender cuts of beef. The serving feels a little underwhelming compared to the look fun in soup, and costs a little more.
Chinese Donut Stick ($3/order) - Please get a side of this to dip in your soup! It's comes cut into manageable bites, and is so delicious when carrying a broth.
So fresh, delicious, and affordable. I can't believe this place has been around for so long and we just tried it! As they say, better late than never.
