Lam’s Kitchen – A Traditional Chinese Noodle Shop in the Heart of Honolulu’s Chinatown Lam’s Kitchen is a small, old-fashioned noodle shop nestled in the bustling Chinatown district of Honolulu. The place seats only about 30 people, so even though we came during a regular lunch hour, my family and I had to wait around 20 minutes to get a table. I ordered the fish noodle soup – the broth was clear and light, with a clean, subtle flavor. The fish was not fried but cooked directly in the soup, making the meat firm, fresh, and pleasantly mild. It’s a good choice for those who enjoy traditional, light flavors. My husband and child had the stir-fried beef rice noodles – a more memorable dish. The wide, chewy noodles were stir-fried hot with tender slices of beef, and the dish carried a distinct smoky aroma from the wok – adding a layer of depth and authenticity. Lam’s Kitchen may not offer groundbreaking cuisine, but it delivers an honest, traditional Chinese dining experience. If you have time while visiting Chinatown, it’s worth trying at least once.

Still as yummy as before, service was as authentic as I would expect lol first time trying their wonton noodles. Solid. Wonton got shrimp in it too! Love the sassy attitude of my server haha I asked to make sure wonton has shrimp in it coz I've seen many places just putting pork and call it a day (ugh) she's like "wonton is not wonton if there's no shrimp in it." That's what I'm talking about, Aunty.

Highly recommend this restaurant! We visited Lam’s Kitchen twice during our stay in Honolulu, and it truly felt like a taste of home. The food is light yet well-seasoned, comforting without being heavy. We ordered the beef chow fun, beef look fun, wonton, and boiled liver. Every dish was delicious. Most importantly, after finishing the soup and noodles, our stomachs felt warm and comfortable. No heaviness at all. If you’re missing the flavors of a neighborhood noodle shop back home, don’t miss this place!

Service was A+. Very hard working staff. However, food was average, sauce was too watery and without any memorable flavor. Sorry I have no yearn to return here.

Two months after their expansion and remodel, the food is still top notch great! Some may miss the old hole-in-da-wall charm.

We got the chow fun with choysum, fried donuts and beef and tendon look fun in soup. The soup dish was good, comforting but leaning towards too salty for us. The chow fun was lacking smokiness, overpowered by the sauce. Texture of noodle was amazing tho. The donuts were great too. Service was quick. We sat next to a larger group and had to share condiments which was a little awkward.

Dined in after renovations and it was honestly a terrible experience from signing in to being seated and having our food delivered. I get that reopening causes chaos, but the front of house staff needs to be more organized. There is no host or structure, just a sign in sheet, which is fine, but its literally chaos. After being seated and ordering, 3-4 tables after us received their meals before us. The party that was seating at the same time was already finishing their meal. I think it the future takeout will be my go to. Its just not worth the hassle and chaos. Food taste the same which is great!

Loved everything we ordered. Beef noodle was the best I have had in US. There were whole shrimps in the wonton. Rice plate was tasty too. Ginger chicken was a little underwhelming compared to other dishes.

We finally got to eat at Lam's Kitchen today. Our timing at 11:30 on Tuesday was good because after we sat down , the place was packed with people waiting for a table. I found out that they recently renovated and doubled in size. It is very nice, clean and modern inside. We ordered beef and tendon noodles and my daughter ordered fish filet with look fun and also got a side order of won ton. There are many condiments on the table so you don't have to ask for anything. There was shoyu, chili oil, salt, pepper, mustard, vinegar, hoisin sauce, Sriracha, and maybe more. The noodles were really good and it was full of beef and tendon. My daughter's fish look fun was good too. I would definitely go back.

A Chinatown Classic My Mom and I Both Love My Chinese mother swears by this place, so you know it's good. Lam's has renovated and expanded their space, increasing the number of tables and overall diner capacity. Even with the expansion, there is still a line, which is a testament to the taste and quality that have made them a destination. It seemed like every table had an order of the Doughnut Sticks, so we followed suit and were not disappointed. Same goes for the fried chicken wings. They are known for their Beef Flank and Tendon, and it is a must-try. The look fun is made fresh, and the noodles are incredibly soft. I asked for wontons without soup, topped with Beef Flank and Tendon. This is an off-menu combo. The gravy from the beef coats each wonton in savory goodness. Highly recommend asking for it this way. Final bite: Lam's is the real deal. If the food wins over my mom, it's already passed the toughest test.

First time back since the remodel. Arrived at around 11am and seated quickly. However, a waitlist started shortly after. Hubs loves the braised beef and tendon egg noodle soup. The look fun was fresh and so good when it arrived piping hot.

Homemade look fun. Ordered take out. Choy sum fish fillet chow fun. $14.99 Beef chow fun, dry style. $14.50 Beef flank tendon with rice. $14.99 For dine in. Sign in near entrance. For take out, order at front counter. Service is quick and efficient. Restroom available. Highly recommend.

They renovated the interior and it's a lot more spacious with more seating -2 or 4 top picnic like bench tables. Looks really nice. Lots of people waiting to be seated so go inside and get your name down ASAP! Chow fun was great as usual- we had the beef and choy sum chow fun. So flavorful with that smoky wok hei flavor. Noodles were bouncy with the right amount of chew. The beef was very tender! One order definitely enough for 2. We also got the beef and tendon soup mein. Noodles were just right and the beef and tendon was so tender. The staff was jamming! So busy but they managed to stay cheerful and friendly! Shout out to the staff! Take note of the table number you're seated at. It's on the table edge. When done, you go up and tell the cashier your table number (or either point it out to her ) and pay

I had read about Lam's on the FB food page and had bookmarked it to try. I recognized the space that once housed a Thai restaurant. Apparently they remodeled and it looks great! They are really busy during lunch so get here early. We waited for about 15 minutes. My friends did all the ordering. The Look Fun rolls were very good! I had the beef tendon look fun. Really good broth and tender meat. They also ordered the beef liver. I'm not a fan but this one was very tender and served with ginger and green onions like cold ginger chicken. It was very good. One of my friends had the fish fillet noodle soup and said it was really good. Nice tender fish. The service is fast, friendly, and efficient. They are very polite but honestly, eat and get out because people are waiting. It's not a place to sit and talk story. I should've went back for the pho. Mahalo Lam!

Another GREAT experience at Lam's kitchen! Parking this time was a bit trying - just before the new year celebrations but still worth the struggle for parking but once seated and our order served you know it was all worth it. Once again one ton mein so good - beef & tendon over rice was so flavorful- tender bits of beef so tender and flavorful and a pound of fun ( rice noodles) to take home for later - perfect with a bit of oyster sauce and sesame oil with a hit of chili oil- a perfect meal! Once again the service was perfect-water served while waiting for our order. They do have a good selection of drinks you can order- and several other dishes you can choose but the menu is simply and varied. John said the restaurant has been crazy busy but they are handling the crowds in their little space - just watching the action I believe they are doing a great job as people are good about not lingering when busy. We lot the service people and the food!

Wanted to try out the newly renovated place. More roomy now! It was busy even at 1pm! But right before we left, it was empty lol. So don't worry about seating I think. Got Beef Flank & Tendon Look Fun soup and Beef w/ black bean sauce chow fun. The beef flank and tendon soup was different than before. When the dish came, the soup looked thicker. Tip: stir it lol. The sauce that came with the meat (I think) is thick so when you mix it with the broth, it adds some salty flavor and thickness in the broth. The broth was delicious before I stirred it too. Same noodles, which were delicious! The beef was tender and delicious. They changed the vegetable, which was different. The Beef w/ black bean sauce chow fun I think was my favorite :D Freshly made! It was piping hot! Yum! Crunchy bell peppers and the black bean sauce was really good!! Will probably get this again next time.

Lam's kitchen - remodeled - 3x the charm!!!!! Lam's kitchen is back and bigger than ever! Maybe 3x as large? More bathrooms, cleaner, nicer! The owner, obviously proud of the place was telling everyone about being open for 2 weeks with the nice new place. None of this means anything if the food wasn't good, but it still is! Yes, the look fun with beef tendon in soup is just as good - so tasty! They also have a few new items on the menu, we tried the fried chicken wings. Perfectly cooked, crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. Delicious! The thing about Lam's is that they give the perfect amount. Perfect amount of noodles, perfect amount of beef; just everything is perfection. I guess it's NOT a hole in the wall anymore but a proud new beautiful Chinese style restaurant. By the time we left, the place was packed!!!!! I will continue to come to this place because it is that good! It is easily one of the best noodle soups on this island - nothing is better. It is "satiating" in a nutshell!

My office ordered lunch from here, so I got to try a bunch of different things. I think we got the beef tendon look fun soup, beef chow fun, beef tendon on rice, and ginger chicken on rice. I really wanted to like this place and heard great things about it. But honestly everything was pretty flavorless. I'm not sure if it's because we did a takeout order so would love to give this place another try dining in!

How ironic that I had just gotten back from New York on Friday and decided to then again, make a stop by Lam's Kitchen this weekend as a post-trip meal. Turns out that they had just reopened yesterday and I'm glad to announce that they have the same great taste with just more space. It's a little more decked out and fancy than before, taking over the space of the neighboring shop for nearly double that volume. Today, I opted in for the wonton mein just because I have just had some dry beef chow funn last week at another spot. I also thought that with the cold rainy weather, it was a perfect time for a hot dish so we all got soup noodle type dishes with a side of look funn for an appetizer. They sprinkled that little dash of white pepper on the top with what seemed like a tiny drop of sesame oil for that fragrance. I think they're trying to get used to the increased space and volume of customers as my order took a little longer to cook than I would've expected especially given that they orders would fly out much faster pre-renovation. This place was nearly full on a rainy day which means it'll be incredibly busy when the weather returns back to normal and when the news spreads that they have fully renovated. I'm wishing them the best and looking forward to my next visit with my wife. Maybe in a couple months? See you then!

Reopened after renovation. The place looks amazing. Food tastes great! Busy as usual, maybe even busier than before since everything is new, from environment to tables, chairs, and dining wares. Make sure you sign in when there are people waiting. Recommend you come earlier than the usual lunch hour, due to menu items running out. Common things that run out are the congee (jook), Chinese dough sticks, and cheong funn. They don't have their own parking, but you can park in the underground parking lot next to the park, entrance on Beretania before the park. Cost is cheaper than Cultural Plaza parking. Recommend you try this place if you haven't yet. Everything on the menu is good. Cheong Funn is made in house fresh daily.

Lam's Kitchen is back and with a revamped interior. They've added more tables, replaced their single chairs with backless benches, expanded their staff, and introduced modern decor that gives the space a more contemporary feel. While the benches definitely contribute to the modern feel, I don't quite think this was the right choice for the restaurant given the large elderly population that frequents Lam's Kitchen. Nonetheless, it's clear that people were excitedly anticipating Lam's Kitchen's reopening because the line was out the door this past Saturday! We waited about 45 minutes just to get a seat, but it was well worth it. I went with their famous Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Soup, Plain Cheong Funn (which I doused in hoisin and peanut sauce), Satay Rice Noodles, Pork Blood Clot and Liver w/ Ginger & Green Onion, and a side of Chinese Doughnut Stick (the best!). This is a great place for lunch, though the lunch rush can get insane.

Lam's newly renovated restaurant is clean, well lit, w/ more seating. Food & service are excellent. Will be back!

10 stars now after the beuatiful renovation - same ONO authentic HK taste! Even Bay area wonton places cant beat this!!! Shrimp winton and the noodles are PERFECT! Beef Stew so tender ! Everything on menu is awesome and prices are sooooo reasonable! Love the decor the restrooms the service!!! Even the toilet paper is top quality unlike those difficult to dispense commercial rolls !!!

If you want authentic Cantonese flavors, Lam's Kitchen is the real deal. Their silky-smooth Cheung Fun paired with house-made sesame sauce takes me right back home. The beef brisket flat noodle soup is another standout--rich and comforting. I love that the service is so quick and friendly even when they're busy. The ambiance is buzzing and authentic. A true Oahu gem!

Lam's Kitchen is well known for its chow fun and won ton soup. This time we only needed a snack and we got one order of their chow fun which hit the spot! Love that they renovated the inside and is now very nice and clean.

My partner dropped me off the beef tendon look fun soup from Lam's Kitchen for lunch today -- seriously, he's the best ever...it's one of my favorite! And let me tell you, it absolutely hit the spot. Lam's is one of those places where the line is always long, but completely worth it. Everything on the menu is solid. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the portion size was super generous for the price. I'm a huge fan of their rice soup and wonton mein too -- hands down the best on the island. Comfort food at its finest. Prices are reasonable, service is quick, and the flavors are on point. If you haven't tried Lam's yet, go! You'll thank yourself later.

I remember when they were Lam's Garden in Hawaii Kai when I was younger. The food is great. They used to be in Kahala after they moved from Hawaii Kai. The service is great. I miss them being in Hawaii Kai.

土曜日の開店時間にお邪魔しました。。 入店すぐに案内。。 店内は清潔感もあります。。 席数もわりとあって、お昼出なければ 混雑で待つようなことはない感じでした。。 お料理の提供も早いです。。 お店の奥は麵工場になっていて 麺打ちの機械が稼働していて 麺も卸して販売している自家製面のお店です。。 暖かい細麺と 太麺の焼きをいただきました。。 暖かい細麺は食管もとてもよく 味付けもおいしかったです。。 焼き太麺も見た目の想像とおり 濃厚ソースで面ももっちり おいしくいただきました。。 リピートしたいお店です。。 駐車場は店の周りに路上コインパーキングがあります。。

My 1st destination upon arriving in Honolulu. Friday afternoon around 3PM, 30 minutes before closing time. The place was empty only one other table is occupied. Food is still as good as I remembered. Many regulars came for take outs while we dined and they were still taking phone orders till closing time.

Taste: 5 Creativity/Authenticity: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Bang for your buck: 5 This place is busy! Like non stop people walking in. Just waiting for a table 20 customers walked in and out so I knew the food was gonna be fire!! I just came for the porridge and beef flank noodle soup and both were delicious!! Service here was fast and we got our food and were out in 30min. Prices here are fair especially how expensive Hawaii is getting so def on my list for a good cheap meal and will be back

Lam's is comfort Cantonese food defined. I love wontons and their wontons are perfectly seasoned and the right texture. The braised beef and tendon is absolutely melt in your mouth. I've also had the look fun in the past and with their sauce mix, it tastes like I'm eating street food in Hong Kong. They always have a steady stream of customers come in and out of the store. This is a hole in the wall worth trying. Casual. Street parking. Fast service. Please come and create your own experience.

New place is good and clean. Service is good as the food. The only that was a little disappointing was that the prices went up between $3-5 per dish. The Cheung fun is now 8.50 that's crazy and it was t that long ago that I ate there. I guess because of the bigger space they charge the customers more to make up the expense.):

10/08/2025 Update: While their dry fry beef chow still has nice wok hei, the portion size appears to have decreased by a third of what it use to be. Also, the price has increased from just under $8 to almost $15. Not sure if the takeout I ordered was someone else's mistake order, because as soon as it was ordered, the entire bagged item was plopped onto the counter before I could even finish paying. Unfortunately, whoever was cooking today, had a heavier hand with the soy sauce than usual. As far as being our favorite place for beef chow fun, I'm not sure if they still are.

I'm disappointed to report that I won't return here anymore due to the persistence of bugs in the food, and the lack of acknowledgement from the staff. I come here often, and this is my second time in a row that there were bugs in my soup. The last time there was a small cockroach, and they said it was a shrimp, but took it away immediately. This time there were at least 7 small bugs, I stopped fishing them out after that point. They told me they were bones. I understand things happen, and the normal thing is to acknowledge that you've delivered a product that includes item it shouldn't and not expect someone to pay for the bowl of soup that included the bugs. I'm attaching photos of the "bones" that show the legs of these small bugs. There were wings and other pieces of the bugs in the soup as well. I went back and they offered me a 10% discount which is $1.30. I told them I'd rather pay $1 to not have so many bugs in my soup. It was unappetizing. If you do go, I'd definitely check to make sure you're not consuming insects you're not planning to.

Finally made it to Lam's Kitchen in Chinatown. We luckily found parking right around the corner and popped in. Lam's has a small interior with a few tables and chairs. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered the beef chow fun and a noodle soup. Food came relatively quickly despite how busy the restaurant was, and everything was delicious. We also enjoyed the condiments on the table. We saw a lot of people come in for both dine-in and take out, and Lam's was busy the entire time we were there.

Enjoyed the noodles and service here. They just remodeled so everything new and there is AC. Service was polite and dishes came out fast. Would revisit again.

8/16/25 Been trying to cut back eating carbs... 1st time having Wonton Soup vs Wonton Noodles This is my new favorite dish here Definitely less carbs plus more of their Tasty Juicy Plump Pork n Shrimp filled treats Thin wrappers too! I counted at least 12 pieces Soup w sliced Won Bok was very flavorful n filling I had a taste of the Beef Bitter Melon over Rice dish Meat was very tender Melon had just the right amount of bitterness n Gravy had a little Black Bean flavor... Ono! Made a dipping sauce of their House Chili Oil n Red Vinegar... Mmmmm!

Wonderful look-fun (fat white noodles) and saimin made fresh daily! Their signature brisket look-fun doesn't disappoint! But everything else we ordered was delicious. Busy but worth the wait. Great value. Will def come back again!

Great meal at a a great price. Stopped by on the way to Waikiki after arriving at the airport and it was worth it. The noodles and wontons were great. Noodles are made fresh daily.

I went ahead and ordered what the staff suggested. It's beef noodles soup and apparently their best seller. The beef was really soft and tender. Flavor was deep. Soup was hot enough. I have to reduce a star because it's REALLY fast paced. They rush for your order and clear your dish right after your last bite. I understand they want to serve as many people as they can, but it's by far the "fastest" place I've been. I went in and out in 30 minutes. Small size noodles place. Not a lot of tables and not a lot of room to stand while waiting as well. It's in Chinatown so better park in nearby parking lot and it's a 2 minutes walk to the restaurant.

Small busy unassuming restaurant. You can hear the staff talk in Cantonese, so you know it will be good. Loved the pork congee with the fried donut. The hubs had the beef and tendon noodle soup. Both were delicious but I loved my congee more - it's comfort food for breakfast.

Decent, inexpensive, unassuming spot in Chinatown. We have been here a few times and it doesn't disappoint for the value. We ordered: Ginger Chicken on Rice (A-): It's cold (they will warn you a few times haha). The oil comes on the side which is nice, so you can decide how little or how much you want to drench it. The chicken itself was pretty lean both times I ordered it. Beef and Tendon On Noodles(A): The noodles are certainly the highlight of this one. They were a little heavy handed on the sauce the day we ordered. Overall, very flavorful. They will charge a credit card fee, so if you have debit or cash you can save a little $$. Service was quick and efficient. Both times we went were weekend days at lunch time, and around 12pm the waitlist started with 10ish minute waits. We noticed the fried donuts seemed to be pretty popular as the late breakfast people left, so we may order that next time. Just about everyone in the restaurant had one!

Sit down, order quickly, no frills, no problem!! Coworker and I both had the beef tendon with chow dum noodles and boy what an umami blast of flavors! Add in some house made chili oil and it totally made our day. Will be back another time for the longer Chinese donuts for dipping as well. Food here comes quickly, service is also fast and efficient. Items are priced well and it is street parking.

Authentic Cantonese cuisine with the taste of Hong Kong. Fresh ingredients, skillfully prepared, worth a visit.

Lam's Kitchen has consistently been one of our local favorites in Chinatown. Though parking is sometimes a bit stressful, we always find a way to make it work. (4-page menu posted) Today we got the #11 Look Fun noodles with Beef and Tendon as well as the Pork and Bitter melon. These are our usual dishes, though the fish with look fun noodles is also a nice alternative. The food itself arrived at our table within 5 minutes of ordering despite all tables being full. The noodle soups are consistently piping hot and full of flavor, with the exact same flavor profile and proportions of noodles, broth and beef. I can't explain it, but this is just one of those places you have to go to while in the area. The bitter melon and pork combo is SUPER filling, but don't let the quantity fool you - it's flavor profile strikes me as a dish that has been perfected over the years, and I used to not enjoy bitter melon so much as kid. The service - quick and straight to the point. You sign up, take a seat, get menus, and get served. Promptly. As a new local, we go here at least twice a month, and the quality is as consistent as it gets. And our server, Kelly, always brightens up our moods here!

Worth the wait! Cheung fun - dressed with hoisin peanut sauce. Such a nostalgic dish. Simple yet comforting. Beef chow cheung fun - smoky wok flavor. The beef was tender, heavy gravy which softened the cheung fun a bit. Won tons - a mix of shrimp and pork. Juicy and meaty!

A small but busy restaurant. Tables turn over fairly quickly. Prompt service with good recommendations from the server. Delicious food, reasonably priced.

Super busy place for lunch even on a Monday morning but there's also only like 8 tables inside. Moved fairly quick though. We got the beef chow fun and it had so much wok hei, super recommend. Huge pieces of tender beef in there as well. ***I really wanted to get the tendon and brisket over the noodles which I saw on other yelp pics but I guess I accidentally ordered one with soup. When it came out I triple checked the menu again and didn't really see another corresponding dish so I think it's the look fun but you have to ask for no soup? The tendon and the meat was good although I personally think it could have been a tad more tender. I didn't really like the dish as much since it came with the soup and maybe that's a personal preference, dilutes that gravy sauce but I'm sure if I had ordered what I actually wanted it would have been pretty good. Was a generous portion though. Tried the chili sate sauce on the tables and didn't really deliver on the spice so maybe siracha is the best bet if you need spicy.

Casual Chinatown dining. Food: 3/5 Our group tried the soups and the beef dishes. The general consensus was that the beef dishes with noodles were better than the soups. The broths were weak with little flavor. Some people added soy sauce to get some flavor. The vegetables and wontons were good. Service: 5/5- quick service Facility: 2/5 I like the use of old buildings and maintaining the original ambiance -what i objected to in this case was the dirty bathroom -The trash can was overflowing, and the door looked as if no one had bothered to clean it in ages-just nasty. Location -easy to find on a corner in Chinatown, but small -so look up for the wood sign above the door. There is minimal street parking even for lunch -but the nearby municipal parking garage is within a short walk.

Old school hole in the wall. It's been here FOREVER. Totally worth your time and money. Jook is good, lots of chunky cut century egg. Bitter melon with beef cooked with dau see was VERY tasty and beef was extremely tender. We asked if they would make us wonton noodle soup w/ liver, ginger & green onions and put the soup on the side. Came with 6 wontons and large slices of liver. Soup was tasty. My friend got a Chinese donut to dip into the jook. But I'm not a Chinese donut fan in general. BUT we ordered the look fun rolls and it comes with peanut butter and hoisin. I mixed the two then started dipping the donut. BOMB-Deli-icious!!! Try it, you won't regret it. Parking is iffy, it's Chinatown. If you can find street parking, great, otherwise there's a parking lot down the street, across from Maunakea Marketplace.

One of my must go places. The restaurants is fairly small but the food makes me feel like home lol. Their funn noodles is really fresh, this place takes the basics in soup noodle and chow funn to the most satisfying level. The services is good and because the place is small, its a tad noisy.

One of the best beef chow fun dishes on the island! The noodles were perfectly stir-fried with that smoky flavor, and the beef was tender and flavorful. The portion size was generous and definitely satisfying. The wait time was short, and the service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but it's clean, well-kept, and comfortable. Highly recommend!
