Landhotel Donner

"Here you can enjoy classic regional cuisine – for example the menu features braised wild boar in a juniper jus. The decor is warm and welcoming, the pretty country-style dining rooms boast classy soft furnishings and warm wood. Don't miss the home-made cakes served in the afternoons on the pretty garden terrace. You can also stay overnight in well-kept accommodation." - Michelin Inspector

We have been visiting this hotel for around 4 years now as a stopover on our Germany to visit a supplier in Bavaria. It is a lovely, clean and friendly hotel in a quiet village. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. ||The breakfast is superb and nothing is too much trouble for the staff and owners. As we stayed there twice this trip, the owner/chef put on a special set menu for our return visit so we would not have to have the same meal again.

We stayed 2 nights here to break the journey back from a business trip. The hotel was pleasant, the rooms spacious and the beds very comfortable.||The restaurant meals were excellent and well in keeping with the Michelin recommendation.||But for us it was the service which mad it worth of an excellent rating. Once I had made my stumbling German start to conversations, there was no problem with most of the staff speaking English. As is often the case in Germany, if you make a bit of an effort to speak German first you are rewarded with replies in faultless English.||A previous review commented that the breakfast was cold food, we were offered freshly made boiled eggs and scrambled eggs with or without ham.||We will definitely return.

The hotel is situated in Remblinghausen just outside Meschede. Remblinghausen is a small quiet village. My husband was here a couple of years ago on a business trip and was very enthusiastic about the hotel and especially about the restaurant, which was reason for us to spend here the last night of our holiday. The room we had was spacious and comfortable. The dinner was indeed excellent. No fancy haute cuisine, but deliciously prepared dishes. Perfect.

I was absolutely delighted to stay in this hotel. It was very clean and tidy, the room was amazing and the quality of the bedding superb. The bathroom was perfect. The most amazing experience was that of dining in the restaurant! We went for the 4 plate menu, every dish was sensational and really good value for money! Wish I get to go back!

We booked two rooms (a separate room for our son). Staff is very friendly. Bit of a challenge to communicate if you don't speak the German language. The room we stayed at, was spacious and clean. Enough cupboard space and seating. In the room there were two bottles of drinking water (paid). Food and service is excellent. The draft weizenbeer is also delicious. No problem having breakfast after 10 am. Free wifi, but one has to get a password from the reception. The password expires every 12 hours or so. Bit annoying, if you wake up, want to check e-mail and you notice the wifi-password has expired. One can park in front of the hotel. At the reception one can ask for free hiking maps (German language).Hotel is about 20 minutes drive from Winterberg (skiiing area).

friendly welcome with handshake upon early arrival. Room was clean and ready for me. Tidy, with plenty of powersockets and a wonderful new bathroom. Lots of warm water and the bed was large and cozy. The desk is a bit small and the WLAN is not the fastest. Breakfast very nice and delicious. The church is around the corner but didn't disturb me at all.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during a weekend visit to the Sauerland area. Rooms are spacious, and all have a small seating area with couch and comfy chair. Very small tv, but it does have 30 channels including a few in foreign languages. Beds and pillows are very comfortable. No tea/coffee facilities in the room. No aircon, which might be a problem during hot days. Bathroom is all fine (shower without tub, which is absolutely fine for me) but maybe a bit too white. That is also true for the curtains, which leads me to the one and only issue we had with this hotel: the curtains are white and too thin, and barely keep out the light in the morning. Consequently we woke up at 5 a.m. The window shutters are for decoration only, so not much use either. Somebody from the hotel staff was kind enough to improvise additional curtains using dark coloured sheets, which largely solved the problem for the second night. Furthermore hotel guests should be aware that noise from the bar and restaurant can be heard in the room, and that this usually continues to midnight or so. As we are late sleepers it was not an issue for us (unlike the morning sun), but if you plan on going to bed early then best ask for a room that is as far away as possible from where the noise is. we didn't dine in the restaurant so can't comment on the quality of the food. Breakfast however was tasty bu simple, with only cold items.||||The hotel is right in the center of Remblinghausen, which is a cute agricultural village with stables and cattle mixed with houses. Very little traffic in the village, especially in the evenings. A small supermarket and 2 or 3 other stores are all the village has to offer in terms of commerce, but the much larger town of Meschede is a mere 5 km (5 mins by car) away.
