"The Isele family has been cultivating the art of hospitality in this traditional building since 1854. The interior boasts a pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy classic German cuisine that is seasonal, carefully prepared and based on a range of regional ingredients. The home-made terrines and desserts are definitely worth trying – the diet will have to wait! The wine list also has a very regional slant. In addition, there are comfortable, tastefully decorated guestrooms in which you will be tempted to stay for more than one night!" - Michelin Inspector

Landhotel Restaurant zur Krone is an amazing family-run hotel in a perfectly well-connected town just 15 minutes from Freiburg. The hotel has the comfort and beauty matching a luxury hotel while still making you feel at home. We arrived a little late but the check-in experience was very smooth. The rooms are spacious, bright, and wonderfully decorated. There's plenty of storage space. The warmth and attentiveness of the owners is memorable - they are incredibly kind and go above to ensure that you have a nice holiday experience. The restaurant is a true highlight. They offered a welcome appetizer with shrimp and mousse. The flavors were unforgettable. The asparagus soup was the best we had during our entire trip. Every dish we tried reflected a level of quality, flavor, and presentation that far exceeded the price point. The breakfast was hearty, fresh and had a lot of options. Overall, Landhotel Restaurant zur Krone is a perfect blend of comfort, hospitality, and gourmet experiences.

An excellent little place, run by the 5th generation of the family owners. The rooms were charming, spotless and spacious. Very comfortable beds with white crisp linen. The current owner is a trained chef, who runs a Michelin-listed restaurant at the guesthouse. The rest of the family are also involved in the day to day running of this business, and are very welcoming, pleasant and friendly people. The breakfast and dinner meals were very good and served with a smile. We really enjoyed spending time amongst these people.||||The only discomfort we experienced was from the hot weather and the absence of air conditioning, fans, or a fridge for cold drinks. Even the open windows at night were insufficient to cool the room down. There were no tea or coffee making facilities. This is possibly characteristic of the continental guesthouses in general, I take it.||||We stayed six nights and would have liked to stay longer. We found the locals very friendly and polite, and genuinely welcoming, plus many people spoke good English. We would definitely consider returning to Freiburg and staying at Zur Krone, which is a 10 minute train ride away (trains are every half hour during the week, and every hour on Sundays). Another bonus is to be able to use the Konus card, which entitles the whole party to use public transport across the Black Forest region for the duration of the stay. This allowed us to explore the region at large, and spend the saved money on great meals. This was a memorable holiday for us.

We had the 3 course regional menu with accompanying wine. Delicious food well presented and a very polite, attentive and entertaining server. Not sure how he served all the tables alone and still made us laugh. If I had to find fault it would be that we were not shown the bottles of wine which was a pity as each wine matched perfectly with the dishes from the starter to dessert. We had to ask each time for details (which was then provided) so that we could purchase the wines(which we did!!) as they were all local from the Kaiserstuhl area. We had a lovely table on the terrace and had a fabulous evening!! Highly recommended. Only a pity we couldn’t stay there as there was a minimum stay of 4 nights where we needed only 2!

Thanks to the entire Insel family who provided a unforgettable stay at this hotel next to the wineyards of Kaiserstuhl and close to the first hillsides of the Black Forest. The rooms are perfectly equipped and clean. A special thanks to the extraordinary Jörg, the host manager at the restaurant who has been a great help in choosing our menus, all of high quality, and selecting amazing local wines.||A place not to miss for a visit to Freiburg or the Christmas market in Colmar.

Spotlessly clean and roomy accommodation run by a dedicated and delightful family. ||Really enjoyed our stay: superb German breakfast, evening meals beautifully prepared, though not a large menu. ||Only downside is that it is a working town and the farmers start very early in the day! (particularly during wine harvest in September) so the road is noisier than one mighe expect.||Gottenheim is a very small town with nothing of particular note but is in the middle of some superb wine producing country with good access to Feidburg ( free train pass for guests) and the French and German motorways. Sights we would recomment are Freiburg, Colmar, Vosges mountains and the fantastic 'Cite de L'Auto' car museum at Mulhouse (About 400 vintage cars including 50 - 100 Bugattis, quite remarkable)||Really enjoyed our stay

We drove past this 'Gasthaus' and admired the pretty garden setting and decided to give the restaurant a try after reading that it was being run by the fifth generation of the Isele family. Heiko Isele, who recently took over as chef from his father, says ''I don't cook for stars, but rather with a lot of love and care for my guests,'' and this was apparent in his food. He focuses very much on local and seasonal produce and prepares 'Baden' favourites with a new twist. Our 'amuse bouche' of tasty homemade tomato mousse was summery and refreshing. As a starter, my husband and I shared the warm goat cheese topped with pine nuts and honey, served on a bed of ratatouille with potato gnocchi. What a refreshing change from the usual salad. My choice of a simple rump steak was transformed by serving it with crushed sea salt and a delicious herb butter, whilst my husband's 'Taffelspitz' with lashings of creamy horseradish sauce and homemade noodles was light and tasty. No room for desert, but there was definitely a nice selection to think about. The wine selection from the area was good and not over-priced, and the recommendation of a crisp, dry, local Chardonnay fit perfectly on this summer evening to both our dishes. Good value for money, and the service from the family was efficient and friendly. We will be back!

This is really a good Gasthaus. We spent 4 nights here in a comfort room between Christmas and new year. |The staff/owner was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and big, with a firm bed and extra long bed covers (apparently a rare thing here in Germany). The only thing we really missed in the room was a small fridge and a water boiler. We heard no noise from the traffic outside (it's a small Road though) but we heard all activities in the hallway very clearly - obvious only during daytime and not during the night. |Breakfast was delicious and freshly prepared and we enjoyed it every morning. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the food was definitely above the average gasthaus food we have tried so far, while the prices were just a bit above average. ||We definitely recommend both the restaurant and the hotel... and we do miss the breakfast already :-)

It was a balmy September evening when we visited, and we would be eating outdoors under canvas. We'd booked (as the restaurant was a train ride away) but that wasn't necessary (there were only three other tables occupied. Which brings me to gripe number one; why, with so many empty tables was the couple who arrived shortly after us sat so close to ours as to be virtually sharing our table?) Having surreptitiously shuffled sideways as far as we could, we sipped pretty local fizz (which we had to ask for twice) while we decided what to eat. In the end we chose the "regional menu" which I believe changes monthly (but do check!) It was preceded by an "amuse bouche"; a slice of salmon mousse with a blob of a sweet dill and mustard sauce. Homemade bread was offered - and that's another one of our gripes; it was delicious but the bread basket completely disappeared after the first offering, which seemed a bit mean; I'd have liked more. The starter was a tiny glass of bright green parsley soup with a creamy foam on top and a skewer of crunchy-coated salmon. Bread for dipping would have been nice. Then came a pork dish (chosen more for its accompanying pfifferlinge if I'm honest!) The meat was perfectly cooked if a touch on the cool side, the vegetables an interesting combination of roasted beets and asparagus and the chanterelles reasonably plentiful (with the jug of spare sauce a welcome touch, especially in view of the bread shortage). Fingers were licked (a lack of bread you see!) Pud was pretty - a tangy berry ice alongside a chocolatey fruity confection. We quaffed a very reasonable (both value and taste!) "viertel" (250ml) of local white wine - and then a second - and then had to cut short our evening in order to run for the train (which after all that effort arrived late!) Service was a seriously OTT - but friendly enough, though with too little focus on the bready kneads (see what I did there?) of the punters.
