Landmark Vineyards at Hop Kiln Estate

Our family chose a wine and charcuterie experience at Landmark. We thoroughly enjoyed everything! Our younger kids liked the food selections, and the adults were pleased with the wine, as well! All of us played bocce ball for the first time, and we had a blast!

A wonderful visit! We did the historic tour and tasting experience. It was not only really cool to see all the different parts of the hop kiln but you tour some of the grounds as well. Lovely Chardonnay and Pinots. Great experience in a historic setting with really friendly guides!

My family and I booked the Bocce Ball & Wine Experience at Hop Kiln Estate, and unfortunately it was a disappointment. The bocce court was poorly maintained, with weeds everywhere, which made it hard to enjoy the game. The wine tasting itself was fine, but it would have been helpful to have something to mark glasses when moving back and forth between the game and tasting. For the price ($400), we expected a much more curated and professional experience. None of my family members were impressed, and overall we left feeling it was a waste of money.

Beautiful grounds and tasting room. Their Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are all delicious, not a single “bad one” in the whole tasting flight. The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly (special shout-out to Olivia for being a total sweetheart answering my many questions!). Definitely coming back again.

Hop Kiln estate is in a beautiful area! We visited a few days ago and loved it. The wine on the tasting menu was exceptional, the server that took care us (I didn’t catch his name) was very informative, provided wonderful conversation, and was very warm and welcoming. We loved it so much we signed up for the wine club! Would definitely return here or to their other property next time we are in the area.

Landmark has always taken care of us. Carol and Kent are a joy. We had a very wonderful time with our host, Katelin! She was great and gave us a ver nice afternoon and some fun wine tips as well!

You can do better in the area - we had a tasting/tour set up by the manager of a neighboring vineyard with whom we hit it off. We aren't big players in the industry but we have a small vineyard & are building a wine importation business and she phoned a friend at Landmark and set us up something as a courtesy as not much was going to be open the following day. The building is quite unique and impressive - however the "Tour" is mostly just walking around the parking lot area, looking at an old house that was transported to the property and staring through the gate of one of their vineyards. You could probably get the same view of the inside of the hop kiln simply stopping in for the normal tasting rather than the rather steep $85 tour and tasting. The tour guide was an odd mixed bag of friendly at times, surly and off-putting at others. We never said that we were "industry" but the person who called in the appointment must of mentioned it as he at one point started belittling us as "thinking we're in the industry" being from Maryland. Once is good natured ribbing, 3 times is - well - kinda insulting - especially in front of others. They comped one of the tastings at the end without us asking which was nice, though being hands down the most expensive tasting in the area it only brought it down to "normal" rates. The wines are decent pinot noir for the most part, the whites are unremarkable - particularly the pinot gris which the other couple dumped and we choked down. Head nextdoor to Rochioli, across the way to MacRostie or down the road to Twomey for a tasting. Stop in here for a glass and to see the building.

What a beautiful vineyard and what great wine with great service!! Was so fun discussing wine and travel with Kent who was such a great host! The most delicious Chardonnay and appreciate the cheese/food pairing ideas! GREAT recommendations!

THIS is the location to go to if you want a true Russian River experience, limited crowds, locals sharing their passion for not only the wine you're drinking but also the wine down the road. Never a disappointing glass or view, with a prettier drive than you could ask for regardless of the time of year

If you're looking for a quieter, less well travelled winery, check out the Landmark Vineyards wine tasting room. It's a bit north of the wineries in Russian River/Santa Rosa, but the drive is quaint and the wines are fantastic. We found the tasting room to be laid back and relaxing -- we were the only ones present in the afternoon. There are several tables outside for enjoying the nice views outdoors. Landmark is owned by the Wonderful Company, who also own Justin Winery in Paso. They are known for their Pinot Noirs as well as Chardonnays. All are top notch wines. We purchased a Sonoma County Tasting Pass -- and Landmark Vineyards was on the list. https://explore.sonomacounty.com/checkout/282/sonoma-county-tourism/1563/sonoma-county-tasting-pass I'd recommend purchasing this pass, as the cost of the pass is typically less than the cost to taste wine at nearly every Russian River winery! What a treat it was to taste at Landmark! It was my first time at this location. There were rain showers throughout the day so we opted to taste indoors and what a lovely space it is. The stone work is incredible. Kent was our wine host and we could not have been more pleased. He is not only charming, but his knowledge of their wines is remarkable. He treated us as VIP's! The wines were all superb. All 3 of us purchased some of our favorites and I signed up to be a wine club member. On a nicer day, one can enjoy the lovely picnic grounds & tables with a view of the pond. Landmark, you did not disappoint!

Landmark is an absolutely beautiful winery with some really great wines too! Their tasting room is a California Historic Landmark and is also recognized as the most significant surviving example of a stone hop kiln in Northern California. The hop kiln is a stone building that is absolutely stunning and overlooks a beautiful pond area. They have some seating inside their tasting room but most seating is primarily outside patio seating. They have lots of seating outside and also a tented area too. The outdoor tasting areas also overlook the beautiful gardens on site in addition to the Mayacamas Mountains too. What a beautiful backdrop! Their signature tasting is $45 for up to 6 guests and includes a flight of 5 wines. They specialize in Pinot Noirs and Chardonnay wines and offer these two varieties for their tasting. They also have a small market area including cheeses and charcuterie items, which always make a perfect pairing to wine tastings. They also have some really great merchandise available too. During my last visit I bought a beautiful Sonoma County cutting board. Ken helped my group and was great at explaining the complexity of the wines and really wanted to ensure our group had a great experience too!

Been a Landmark wine club member since 2007. I usually visit the Landmark winery on Hwy 12 in Kenwood (halfway point between Santa Rosa and the town of Sonoma) as it's less than a mile from my house. This location is a nice airy, friendly place to hang out for a few hours when the weather is welcoming. Today, a clear and warm January afternoon, was a splendid visit. Sat on the Adirondack chairs while being served a half dozen current released wines. Dog friendly. Staff offers water bowls and biscuits to the canines. The wines are pleasant. Never harsh. Prices range from $28 to $100 / bottle. If you are a member or want to sign up for club membership the tasting experience is free. If you merely want to visit and sample the wares the price is $25.

Great wines, really nice grass area and picnic area. Fantastic views, the building is unique and the tasting room staff is really nice and knowledgeable.

I'm giving this winery a 4 instead of a 3 because we so like the retired school teacher/ wine rep. --that usually waits on us every time we visit--so much. She gives the winery a down to earth welcoming vibe that is hard to find in these more exclusive wineries. Since we are members we visit every month, have our free tasting and sample some other wines they may be pouring that day. A recent experience there however left my husband and I feeling as though we'd been ripped off and had. This past weekend, we decided to partake in the tour of the historic hop kiln on the property and surrounding property-- which we had no idea had an associated charge, especially since we were club members. The tour guide was a charming elderly gentleman who stated he had been a salesman before retiring. This should have been a red flag for us but we innocently proceeded ahead, and even when there was a lovely place setting at the end of the tour, with more pinots to sample, and more snacks to munch, I naively figured they know how to treat their wine club members! Skillfully, the hard sell came after we finished our wine pairings when we were casually asked if we wanted to add their Pinot Sampler to our existing account and when we didn't respond right away he repeated 'so you said you wanted it right'? With the fun hour long tour and wine and cheese under our belt it would have been very easy to have given into his charming slick prodding but we declined and followed him back to the register only to discover the tour was a hundred plus bucks--a far cry from many other wineries we've beloved to in the past that would never have charged, nevermind a club member.

It is a neat, historic facility that would be more enjoyable during warmer weather. We had a warm welcome and received friendly service from both staff members. We were even treated to a wonderful warm Brie and bread tray they were trying out to possible feature in the future; it was delicious and fun to offer our honest feedback. Wines were ok but only the Pinot Gris stood out, which we bought. The Chardonnays were good but we are not Chard aficionados. Pinots were nothing special (they said they were getting low on the stock). They did serve in the right stemware so that enhanced the experience.

Visited during Winter Wineland 2022. Our 6th year doing wine road winter wineland and just did the Sunday one day option and due to Covid had to make reservations for set times at 4 wineries: Foppiano, Orsi family, Landmark Hop Kiln, Hook and Ladder. We enjoyed the beautiful outdoor setting and Kent was our host and very fun to talk to and very knowledgeable about all of the wines.

A very cool winery in a historic building. Kent poured our tasting and was hilarious and super nice. The wines were all very tasty and 1/2 to 2/3 the price of similar tasting wines just up the road! We will absolutely come back here (and bring friends and family) the next time we're in the area.

We stopped here with an aptmt and Donna was so welcoming and so knowledgeable about the wines. We sat outside under umbrellas, comfy chairs and well kept property. We loved everything we tasted and will be back!! We noticed dogs on leashes so they allow dogs :)

Met a friend here for a tasting. She is a member but hadn't been to this location. Drove up and WOW! Gorgeous stone building, massive lawn overlooking a pond. Walked in, and my friend had gotten us a lovely table on the porch, overlooking the pond. It was 91 degrees out, but we were perfectly shaded with breezes coming in. Perfect! We had a sweet gal serving us our flight. My friend has also ordered us a charcuterie board, so we were informed about the wines while snacking on yummy cheese and crackers. Such fantastic service! The wine was quite delicious, reasonably priced and such a beautiful setting. Watched the employees spray down tables and chairs, everyone wearing masks, no patrons near us. Had it been busier, they had cornhole to play and some other games. Nice restrooms as well. Check this place out. It is worth the stop!

Cool looking building and property. The tasting room and gift shop are lacking. They use to have more merchandise, we were told they are under new ownership/management during our visit. Stop by during your ride and give the wines a taste for yourself.

Wine tasting in The Russian River?... Include this winery! Gorgeous property, great for aromatic and flavorful Pinot Noirs. Silky options of Chardonnay wines. The people working the tasting were fun, dynamic, and knowledgeable... A couple of friends walked out as Club Members . $$$$ but all worth it!

Recently walked in for a tasting and was greeted with a friendly smile. She adjusted the tasting a little bit and I walked out with the hot kiln Pinot noir, very nice wine. The property is lovely to bring a picnic to.

I have been to Landmark a couple of times - I treasure the Chardonnay that I got on my previous trips and open them sparingly. I was happy to be able to come back during my recent visit. Stellar wines, grabbed a couple bottles of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rose to be shipped home. Visiting Landmark will be a constant for anytime I am in the area.

The winery itself to beautiful and worth stopping by for pictures but pictures only. The wine was presented warm and difficult to sip due to its temperature.The place was understaff which unfortunately is all over the valley so I wouldn't hold that against them. Wine is not worth $35 tasting for 4 pours on the smaller size. Recommend flowers for a superior tasting experience

Outstanding experience at Landmark Vineyards at the historic Hop Kiln Estate. We had a group of 12 and rather than doing a formal tasting, they suggested we could purchase a few bottles and enjoy them by the pond. That was a great recommendation. The beautiful outdoor setting would be a lovely place to plan an event. We claimed a table near the pond and played Corn hole . They had a Fabulous Pinot Noir - we returned for bottle after bottle. They offer a cool picnic option: they supply the basket with cutlery etc., you choose a cheese, crackers, and meat. We paid a little extra for the Mt. Tam from Cowgirl Creamery- so good! It was really a dreamy afternoon. Late October is my favorite time of year to enjoy wine country. Sunny, but not too hot, and no summer crowds.

Even in the midst of a pandemic The vibe here was great. The hostess was helpful and the tasting was generous. We took home the Hop kiln Pinot and Grand Detour. The property is beautiful and very peaceful. Highly recommend this place to do an outdoor tasting.

Wineries going corperate=Wineries striving to be average? We were at the winery last weekend for a tasting. As we mentioned were picking up shipments almost immediately on both sides of them and knowing Landmark from retail we wanted to learn more. We had to wait a while for a tasting but it was a great room so we didnt mind at all. The tasting was nice with some great Chardonnays and a few Pinot. We finished by saying we wanted to join the club and since a shipment had recently gone out we were happy to take the wine with us. Only issue is one bottle in the shipment was not available to taste so we asked to sub for one of the pinots we did taste and liked (same exact price). The person pouring for us said the couldnt do it and a gentleman standing next to her said no they don't do that!! So to be clear we were going to commit hundreds of dollars a couple of times a year but the winery would not change out a wine they didnt have to let us taste for one they did have!! As you might guess we left without joining their club. Also, I sent a Linkedin message to the winery manager as well as one to the corporate CEO but got no response from either. I guess when wineries sell out as they did (to Fiji Water) you have to expect caring about the wine lovers is going to give way to making money off the masses? Cheers, Dave

We found out about Landmark from a friend who had visited 20 years ago with his family. His wife recently passed away so we were determined to make a pilgrimage to Landmark during our vacation in nearby Guerneville in her honor. What a nice setting! We loved the selection of Pinot Noirs poured by our hostess Jessica, who was friendly and knowledgeable. She made our visit even more special. We highly recommend includingLandmark on your wine tasting along the Russian River.

Wonderful customized tasting in this 100+ year old former hops kiln. Our tasting manager, Kerry Anderson, took patient time with our party and questions. A must stop, conveniently located next door to Rochioli, where tastings are significantly limited due to a 7 year wait-list! Lovely setting and preferential treatment vs next door :)

So glad we found this place! Currently under construction, but it's gonna be amazing when done. We came here with 4 adults and 4 kids- great spot with the kids! Beautiful outdoor space with picnic table by a pond. Have cheese and crackers too. Kids could run around while we enjoyed our tasting. Perfect!!!

Would have been okay expect for a mustached waiter who undeservedly cut off our $30 tasting after one glass of wine. Very disappointing after we paid for a tasting and had nothing but nice reception from every other vineyard that day

We stopped there on what felt like a very sleepy afternoon in Healdsburg. We pulled up to Landmark at 2pm without a reservation and we were the only ones there. We thought about leaving, but I'm so glad we didn't. The one on one experience we had with the gentleman working was such a nice start to the trip. We sampled 12 wines for only $20 (mainly chardonnay and Pinot noir) which was a great value. They also credit the tasting fee if you buy 2 bottles (which range from $22-$65). The wine was fantastic and so was the experience. We talked about the wine, but more about fun facts related to music and our backgrounds. Very personal and laid back, which was exactly what we needed after a long day of traveling.

Worst winery because they don't honor your reservation. Called to reserve a tasting at the Russian River Valley location a month in advance. Had a conversation about the timing and everything. Even confirmed again beforehand. Arrived and the tasting room was closed. Called the Kenwood location and they just said, sorry we don't have a record of your reservation. If they can't get it together enough to honor a reservation assume the wine is not worth it anyway.

Cool winery with lots of picnic tables, good wine, and our host was the best! Thank you Jessica for making our experience one of the best I've ever had and worth the drive out there. I would go again despite it being a little more pricy than I normally would spend. But I did buy a bottle!

I was enjoying a beautiful day at Landmark with friends. Later in the day, I looked down at my hand and noticed that a ring I have had since I was 15 years old was gone. I panicked, since the ring was a gift from my father before he passed away. I called Landmark that night and the next morning, and the staff went above and beyond to find my ring! They even used a metal detector to look for it all over the grounds of the winery. Special shoutout to Andy who found it! Words cannot convey how thankful I am for the lovely and kind folks at Landmark. They didn't blow me off, and their level of customer service will bring me back every time I come to Healdsburg. Thank you so much to everyone there for finding my ring, which is one of the last pieces I have of my father. I am so grateful for the kindness that still exists in the world. :)

After many years, I returned to the Russian River to taste pinots. I was so pleased that Landmark Vineyards has brought new life to the historic Walters Ranch Hop Kiln. The hop kiln is a California regional landmark - how appropriate that Landmark Vineyards has taken it over. The building is a must see in the area. Wonderful views, picnic areas and a spacious tasting room. I always take a photo in front of the building. Landmark is known for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They winery makes a full range of profiles of these two varietals. Our entire group enjoyed the tasting, the atmosphere is very relaxed. Everyone found several wines they liked and purchased. Alyssa made our tasting special - very attentive, full of stories and quite knowledgeable about the local food and wine scene. She gave us several recommendations for food and groceries.

Absolutely disappointing. The two female hosts were outstanding; Ponytail man-child was aggressive, confrontational, and unnecessarily rude. He approached my friend and I, seated, in the middle of a casual conversation 2 tasting-size glasses into a 6-glass tasting and without a glance stated "you're cut off!" - never in my life have I experienced this level of rude, senseless attitude. Needless to say we were concerned with his cavalier abuse and will never return. A number of other guest groups immediately left after witnessing ponytail man in full-force, very sad and unfortunate to have him around - don't waste your time here.

Had the chance to visit Landmark Hop Kiln Estate on a recent trip to Sonoma/Napa. I want to give them more stars simply because the vibe was very quaint, not at all commercial or pretentious, no reservation required, very affordable price point, etc...however it was disappointing overall. The wines weren't nearly as complex as my palate likes, they focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which typically leads one to think they do those two incredibly well, however my group of several different palates each only liked one pour of the 5/6 we tasted through. Landmark seems like a group of wonderful people, but their wines were not a fan favorite of our trip and we will not return on future visits.

Now THAT'S Chardonnay. Excellent chards and pinots. Rare to like every single wine poured. Had great time with Ronaldo, good conversation and generous pours. Joined the wine club and can't wait for our shipments.

I was surprised to see that a new winery was taking over this location (Landmark Winery). They were a winery I have always been wanting to try but have had no experience with. The location is a beautiful spot in the Sonoma Valley in the old Hop Kiln location. Classy, classic, historic and with a view to kill. The place is truly beautiful to visit and they have a very large tasting room with plenty of picnic supplies (foods etc.) and gifts. The tasting caught me by surprise. They had some great offering including multiple chardonnays, a pinot grigio and many many pinot noirs. They are clearly a chardonnay and pinot house. I was very lucky to have Jordan as my host. Wow!! what an amazing surprise she was. She knew so much about so much. I could ask a question about the wine and she knew the vineyard, the method of harvest, the unique soil characteristics and ultimately all of the critical details for each wine. She even blew me away as she was fully capable of offering food pairing suggestions with each wine. This is rare and clearly tells me she is a true professional in Sonoma and has taken her craft seriously. I have been to hundreds of tasting rooms and have struggled to fine someone who can offer such a sophisticated knowledge of both wine and food. I truly am impressed with this experience and will return often!!! The experience was truly positive and I will likely go back. I took home three Pinot Grigios that blew me away. They were bold, fruity, solid, fearless and truly tasty. I will order many more if they continue to stay this good. They are on Westside Road in Sonoma Valley and are worth the drive and visit. The location is beautiful and you will be rewarded with a fantastic experience. Jordan .. thank you for making the visit so positive!!!!

This is a MUST stop! We happened upon it by accident and are sooooooo glad we did! Carrie, our pourer, was fun, friendly and so knowledgeable. The wine was fantastic and property was lovely! I can't wait to go back for a wine picnic date

Landmark is our fav for Chardonnay & Pinot noir! We have been members for 12 years! Love the wine & most of all the people!! Alyssa, Donna, Kerri, Olivia and Deric are like family!! You must go experience both vineyards and tasting rooms!!

The wine was ok. We bought $130 of wine and got comped one tasting.. next door comped all tastings with two purchases and had better wine in my opinion.

When your expectations are high and host Alyssa exceeds them, simple, give her 6 stars. Got there 3:30pm on Sunday Oct 22, 2018 so little time to do any tasting. Never felt rushed nor treated as if they wanted to close and go home on a Sunday evening. Very welcoming and engaging and this is the way we felt before we even tasted the wines. (tasting only improved that) Personally, I like Landmark Chardonnay's but had not tried their Pinot Noir's nor others. Suffice to say the highlight of our 2 days in the area. Will remain a fan and have even greater admiration for the Landmark brand. Excellent treatment, tasting and conversation. Clearly Landmark cares about the experience a visitor can have. Our friend from the bay area had not had any experience with Landmark products but left a member of their club and several $$$$ short after leaving with a great sampling. Fortunate to have such a great time. Will certainly visit again. Thank you Alyssa
