Landmark's Bethesda Row Cinema

Theater etiquette is dead. We came to this theater for the first time ever to watch a late showing of a film. There were only two pairs of seats bought and reserved when we bought our tickets as well as when we arrived at the theater. The bartender at the bar and the concession stand employees were very kind. However, thirty minutes into the movie a couple walks in. They talk (full on conversations) during the entire movie and their voices travel especially because they sat two rows behind us and it was a mostly empty theater. It gets to the point where we cannot even hear the dialogue of the movie at times. We look back several times at them to at least signal, hey shut up but they never do. My friend leaves the movie to tell theater staff. In the past, we’ve been told by staff to please inform the staff and they’ll handle the situation so that’s what we did. We informed the staff. The two staff members come in and wait, before one of them goes up to the couple and (presumably) asked them to keep it down. The couple stopped talking for about 5 minutes, before they start talking again. After the movie ends, we encounter the couple who is right then being informed by a movie theater employee (maybe the cook or something because he was not a bartender or front facing concession stand worker or ticket checker) that we told the staff that they were talking/being loud during the movie. Extremely unprofessional to tell them that. The couple then starts harassing us and out loud (loud enough for us to hear) making comments about how they were slighted by us. This could’ve turned into an aggressive/dangerous situation quickly, and this staff member had no concerns for our safety or well being. All because we wanted them to stay quiet during the movie. Idk why they felt so privileged to talk and ruin others’ experience — watch the movie at home if you’re going to act like that. I don’t even think the couple had tickets to the movie so the favoritism like this was odd. I was actually concerned the couple was going to follow us outside of the theater. It was extremely unprofessional of this staff member and for that we won’t be returning to this Landmark Cinema location.

Nice place to see a movie if you want to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. They just remodeled and put in arcade games which makes NO sense to me. They should have put in better movie seating. Those seats have seen better days.The crowd there is older...much older and would appreciate a reclining seat.

The theater is under renovations. However, my experience was great. Everything was clean. The theater staff were very pleasant. I didn’t feel uncomfortable or anything. Also, the AC is definitely working. Things happen. It’s summer and some stuff is out of their control. As of today, no issues to report.

I like this theater because is has great avant-garde shows that you don't find in other theaters. The theater is in an ally, behind a restaurant. So, it can be hard to find if you don't know that. The place is clean and has all the food amenities. Parking garage is nearby, but make sure you pay up or you get slammed with a ticket.

The stars I gave should not be keep in to considerate since I have to hit and proced to the comment,but I really would like to give a coment on what I have experience today,despite the fact the alcohol drink has brought to the cinema ,4 friends where sitted next to us and they have to spill their beer on our cloth,not only that they where making unnecessary noise where all most the odience where disappointed and we were not able to focus.As comment please either let a customer finish their alcholic drink at the bar or try to see if they are not intoxicated thank u since I have watched kids on the cinema too

Comfortable oversized theater seating with good stadium sightlines. Good sound. Lots of food and drink options. Games for kids in the lobby. Good selection of movies.

Looks like it's going out of business but people are claiming it's just under renovation. The entrance was bland with the escalator going down into the lobby out of service. Once you descend the stairs into the former fallout shelter you will find a dimly lit bathroom; only 1 urinal out of the 3 was functioning and 2 out of 3 stalls. The theater seats do not recline but that did not stop whomever was last in my seat. The movie picture and sound quality was decent but the first impressions definitely tempered my overall feel of the theater.

Dead mall theater. Seats are narrow, you’re stepping on and tripping over everyone. The sound system in there was too quiet and the ceiling looked like it was gonna cave in. Everything was overpriced.

They are in remote action but every attendant is very nice. Superman's awesome! Nice to be in Downtown area.

We visited Bethesda Row Cinema this past weekend for an Oscar nomination for Best Picture that wasn't showing in Baltimore. Most movie theaters fall into a couple of categories (fancy theaters with recliners and sometimes food service, your big chain theaters, and your indie theaters that are still all about the movies). I didn't have the best experience at Bethesda Row for a really specific reason. It seems that they renovated the theaters quite recently (the chairs seemed new), but (and maybe - hopefully - this isn't true for all the theaters and all the rows) they needed to try to fit fewer rows into that theater when they put in the larger, more plush chairs! We sat in the back row (I often do that when I'm seeing a foreign film, because I'm short and it's my best chance of being able to read all the subtitles without arching my neck in the front row), and the row in front of us felt impossibly close. I couldn't even cross my legs without hitting the side in front of me. It felt like how closing the rows are in Broadway theaters or at NFL games. Completely uncomfortable. When someone sat to our left in the row, we had to get up and out of the row completely - there's no way someone could squeeze by since our knees (even mine!) were so close to the row in front of us. Really bad planning when they designed the theater. (Like I said, maybe it's just the back row? But since you pick your seats when you buy your tickets and they don't tell you, there's no reason to avoid that back row.) The movie was really good, but I couldn't wait to get out of that theater. I'd rather they have the thin, uncomfortable chairs than thick, plush chairs that they squeezed ridiculously into a small theater. If a movie I want to see is showing here and somewhere else, Bethesda Row Cinema definitely won't be my preference.

We were denied entry to a rated r movie at this theater after weve seen 2 here beforehand even younger. We are very mature 16 year olds and they were extremely rude to us when denying entry, not being polite about our age.

Look closely or you might drive by the place because the sign outside isn't lit up lol. This is a small movie theater so please be advised. For whatever reason I had no clue that this place even existed so this was my first visit. The staff was great but they moved a little slow at the concession stand even though they don't sell much. They don't have food but they do have regular concessions like popcorn and candy. They also have Coke products and beer and wine. I got a canned margarita because it was the closest thing to tequila that I could get lol. My kid got some popcorn and a drink and we spent about $35 total (our tickets were complimentary and I did not look up the pricing). The theater itself is pretty small in comparison to most theaters and Mean Girls definitely packed the place. Scored some advanced screening tickets which was truly great! Overall we enjoyed the film and would come back here to see more films. The seats are pretty comfy and spacious but they don't recline like I thought. The sound was great but the quality could be better. Also, the bathrooms are clean and you all know I love a clean bathroom! This theater is a great idea to avoid huge crowds, date night, and I personally will come back for matinees.

Located in downtown Bethesda, this theater is tucked away behind construction fences right now. The lobby hosts a small bar area and you can get the usual movie concessions in addition to beer, wine, and cocktails. Some of the theaters themselves could use a refresh and they lack the modern reclining seats, but overall it's a good place to catch a current movie.

This theater only has 1 ticket kiosk out of 3 working, and the screens are in the basement. There is an elevator, escalators, and stairs. Often 1 escalator isn't working, often up, so you have to take the elevator or stairs. Many of the lights are burned out or flickering in the entrance level. Not sure if it is an electric issue or just a lightbulb issue. Also as mentioned the seats don't recline. This is central to Bethesda Metro and has good art house movies. But for comfort I recommend montgomery mall.

I'm reviewing this movie theater in comparison to other movie theaters I've been to. I've been here twice, and every time I've been the theater has been clean, quiet, with plenty of open seats so you never feel like you're on top of other patrons. There is a full bar and your more traditional movie theater fare, like popcorn and sodas. In general, I find all the concessions at movie theaters to be ridiculously overpriced and this place is no exception. The combo for a large popcorn and large soda is $16. I will say that I shared it with a friend and we only made it through 1/4 of the bucket, so this could definitely be a steal if you're sharing with a group of 4+ (especially since it's bottomless popcorn). Also, tickets are only 7$ on Tuesday's. They also offer student and military discounts (I believe this brings the ticket price down to 11$).

First time at the Bethesda Row cinema and it was nice. Parking was easy to locate as there is a garage across the street. It's smaller than the usual theaters in the area. I enjoyed the lounge seats, but I have to say that I wasn't a fan of the lack of aisle spacing. It made it difficult for people to maneuver in front of you if they needed to pass, and the seats themselves don't recline up.

Had a not so good experience at the theatre this weekend. Pre-covid, this theatre was one of our favorite places to watch a movie. Yesterday, it seemed run down and poorly managed. As we arrived, we encountered a safety issue, people were descending an escalator and when they got to the bottom, there was no where to go. Then as we checked in for our 6:30 film, we were informed that the A/C was not working properly. No big deal, we were given a choice whether to stay or not. We stayed. (probably the reason for the escalator issue) Then after about 45 minutes into the film the projector malfunctioned. Someone immediately went to fix it. We were then informed that the projector had been not working correctly and it might not work. Turns out it did not work and they told everyone that their tickets would be refunded - which they were. What I can't understand is why the movie was not cancelled before we traveled to Bethesda, paid for parking, and wasted a lot of time. All the issues we encountered were known by the staff well before we bought our tickets. I hope they cancelled the 9:00 movie!

went last night for showing of Moana 2: high price tickets for sub standard theatre experience. the bathrooms were gross. paper towels overflowing trash container. the escalator was not working indicated with a full trash can. the actual movie theatre had not been clean prior to our showing trash everywhere on floor and in seats. a disgusting experience. this place is under staffed and it showed. poor experience hard to believe this happened at Bethesda Row

My husband and I went to watch the Gladiator 2 this afternoon, as much as we were excited for the movie in a movie theater in the heart of Bethesda, we were totally disappointed by the sticky floor as the paper tissues on the floor was sticking at the bottom of my husband's shoes while he walking out! Not to tell how distracting the sticky floor was during the whole time! I also noticed the escalator was pretty dirty as well as the lobby which must not be vacuumed for a long time!!!

I love this theater! Although the entrance can be a bit hard to find, the theater is great quality with friendly staff and good amenities. I usually prefer the E Street location since I'm in DC, but this one rocks too!

This past Friday Night, I got together with friends to see the Mr. Rogers Bio Pic "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood." We didn't have to wait online, as we purchased the tickets online. It helps because parking on a Friday night at Bethesda Row can be tricky. I was happy to have arrive 20 minutes before the movie, so I was able to buy a "kids pack" which includes a small soda and a small popcorn for $9. Also, I bought an adult beverage, apple cider from the cinema bar, which cost about $7. Unfortunately, I was unable to get Happy Hour prices, as they are only offered Monday thru Thursday. The seats in the cinema were comfortable, and the sound quality was excellent. The cinema staff were very pleasant. The ticket cost under $15. It has been a while since I visit this cinema, as I usually go to one of the newer and modern ones but this one has an old school charm to it. Plus, they usually play art house/sensitive movies. It was a good visit and I'd say don't sleep on older movie houses, consider visiting this one, it's a good one.

Bethesda Row Cinema is the quintessential American movie watching experience, with a twist; offering the best foreign and independent films I've seen on screens over the last twenty years. From Academy Award winners to foreign films experienced on opening night before the hype, they've shown them all. The funky outdoor sign and indoor carpeting always make me feel at home. It isn't the usual movie crowd here, you'll see well known authors, professors, celebrities of varying degrees, TV pundits and personalities, even politicians. Bethesda row is truly a movie lover's nirvana.

10/10 movie experience definitely recommend will be going back for sure, went for a yelp event excited my expectations

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL experience. First time I got to take my son to the movie theater in a year. They forgot to turn the lights down until we called the out about it. Had to ask for extra butter for our popcorn three times because they kept forgetting and then the third time they said they were closed, so we had to eat dry old unbuttered popcorn that we paid an unlimited price for. The contrast and collaboration for the movie was complete off. We could barely see anything. AND THE SOUND was off too. Instead all we heard was blasts from the theater next to us. Movie theaters are a special experience. Take some pride in that. Gods I'm so disappointed.

I made plans to see The Farewell with friends at the 4:30 showing on a Tuesday afternoon and I had a heck of a time finding the theater even with using the gps. The theater is not in plain view like other theaters and is tucked away in a corner. If you drive by it, I don't think it's noticeable unless you are at a standstill and have time to look around. I called the theater and spoke to an attendant to ask where the closest garage was. He said Montgomery County Public Garage. I plugged it that name in my gps only to discover after I parked in a garage that it was the wrong one. There must be multiple signage that say Montgomery County Public Garage. I asked someone where the theater was and was informed it was over half a mile away. It took me fifteen to twenty minutes walking before I made it to the theater. We were fifteen minutes late after the start time. Fortunately we only missed five minutes as there was ten minutes of previews. The theater we were in was fairly large but not many occupants were in it. They have leather seats but it's not reclining like my usual theater. I had read reviews before I went that said the seats didn't have much leg room but I didn't experience that since I am short. The theater also has kiosks to purchase tickets which is nice so you don't have to wait in one long line. They also have a nice seating area, concession stands and bar on the lower level. Aside from the challenges of finding the theater and not having reclining seats, it was really nice.

Terrible seats. Outdated theater. Way overpriced concessions. Would never see a movie here again

I forgot about this place until I recently visited for an advanced screening of LBJ on Halloween. My first time here was a few years ago to see "Fruitvale Station" and I hadn't been back since. As with the advanced screenings (at any theater), getting there early is a must and I don't mean an hour early - an hour and a half to two hours is good if you want a decent seat (some regular movie screening goers had their own folding chairs). The movie was scheduled for 7:30. I arrived at 5:45 and there were seven people ahead of me - not too bad, but it turned out that most of those people were holding spaces for their friends who were coming later, so then technically, there were 20 people ahead of me. They had us waiting in the stairwell (guess that's the most space available?). I sat on the steps and read the newspaper. By the way, cell service in here is terrible - it could just be my service provider, but I'd still suggest making your calls/texts before going downstairs. The seats are fairly comfy, but they don't recline, but I must say the space between the seats ahead and behind are a bit tight and if you're taller than average, your knees will hit the seat in front of you. There is a bar downstairs and this place would make for a cute date night. I parked across the street at a garage and since I arrived early for the long wait and the actual movie being two hours long, I paid $4 for parking. I saw some street parking but those were 1 - 2 hour spaces and I didn't want to risk getting a ticket.

Very good theater in downtown Bethesda showing independent films and select mainstream movies. After the Regal closed down the street a few years ago, Bethesda is left with this sole theater. The seats are comfortable, wider, and cleaner than at Regal and at AMC. They do not recline, though, the way the comfy couches do at the mainstream theaters. The lounge area has a range of food and beverage options including alcohol! They have happy hour during the week from 4 to 6 pm. The theater seems to keep away rude and obnoxious teenagers, so I prefer visiting here even though I am a member of AMC. Worth a visit if you're looking for a date night. Parking is aplenty nearby (metered spots in several garages).

Blazing a trail forward in a rough market for cinemas, Landmark's selling point is its esoteric, art house selection. It also offers a nice viewing point, being below ground like its E Street counterpart. This makes it hard to get a cell phone signal, which is generally a good thing as it forces people to actually watch the damn movie. The seating in my theater was nothing remarkable for good or bad (reading other reviews makes me think there must be some variance); if anything, I would have liked a bit more leg room but not a lot. Mine was a fairly large screen, and the tickets are quite reasonably priced. This location has you reserve a specific seat, and has self-serve ticket kiosks at the entry, which worked pretty well for me. I would also add that my show started after ten minutes of trailers from the posted show time. This is not bad compared to some theaters, and the trailers were actually interesting and gave me some hope for our rather moribund show business. It's also notable that the movies that show here are different from the other local Landmark locations, which is why I came to this one on this occasion. If you're looking for a really niche film, consider all your theater options and don't assume that because one theater does not have it, it can't be found.

The theater has a hard time replacing burned out lightbulbs, both in the lobby with the ticket kiosks and the lower level screen part. It is in the basement so there are no windows and it is really dark when the light bulbs are burned out. They need to do a walk through and replace all burned out light bulbs on both levels and seriously fix the 3 ticket machines that are not working. Previously I paid for my ticket but the machine ran out of paper so I didn't get my ticket, so I had to talk to management and have them reprint my ticket. I think they are short staffed. Regal Silver Spring is much better organized and brighter, and almost everything in Bethesda also plays at Regal Majestic, so I recommend going there whenever possible.

Who are all of you liars giving this place glowing reviews? Either you're members of the Lollipop Guild or you're being paid to sit on yelp and lie. I'm leaning heavily toward the latter. I went to watch a movie late last night because it's walking distance from my place. I won't be doing that again. The lobby area is nice and and they serve alcohol, but that's where the honeymoon ends. I am 5'2. Portable toilets have more legroom. I was in theater 6, so maybe the others have more space? I'll let someone else go figure it out.

3/3/21 This was the movie theater I went to as a kid. I remember my dad and I going here to see movies my mom mostly did not want to see. This movie theater has gone through a number of different names and looks, but it always had the same great service I remember. I haven't visited this movie theater in years...maybe decades even. I have driven by it a number of times and seen how the area has changed since I last went to this theater. I still remember the smells of popcorn the moment you stepped through the door. The memory of watching Batman (The 1989 version) and having goosebumps and hearing the soundtrack for the first time. I saw that movie 5 times. Great memories..

I've been to better theaters but this one is not a bad place at all. Since it was dinner time and we didn't feel like eating popcorn and soda for dinner, we smuggled in a real sandwich from Cosi next door....shhhhhhh. We parked in the Bethesda (?) Parking Garage which had very adequate parking. I was told that parking on the 3rd floor or higher in the structure was cheaper than below. 1 quarter / half-hour (15 hour max). The theater we were in wasn't big, nor was it small, but just your average size theater. Seats were comfy and even though we had seats on the side, it was quite comfortable to watch the movie.

Kind of small and a bit outdated, but they were showing a movie I couldn't find anywhere else except for one other place (but this place had more convenient screening times). There's a small box office outside, which is horrible in the cold weather. You can alternatively buy your tickets online or using the kiosks once you get through the front doors and before heading down the escalators. TO NOTE: PREASSIGNED SEATS! This theater does preassigned seating, which has its pros and cons. If it's a popular movie, you might get stuck with the seats closest to the screen. The good thing about the preassigned seating is that you don't have to rush to get to your seat. The seats were comfortable. Second note: They sell alcohol! Though there was a super long line, it was so great to be able to have a glass of wine before the movie and to also be able to take it in to the movie with me. They also sell gas station style coffee as well, which I could appreciate for late screenings. And, just in case you're hungry - they have a nice variety of snacks that I haven't seen at other movie theaters. Don't know if it was the cold weather or the fact that the lobby area is tiny, but it was so packed on a Saturday evening. So, come prepared!

My first time her & really enjoyed the above & beyond basic cinema experience. Once you walk into this spacious & vibrant theater you'll engage with the interactive kiosks to pick up your tickets...you can still get tickets the old fashion way via the box office located outside. The selection of seats process is a growing A+ for me. After you head down the escalators & give your tickets to the ticket taker (Mr. Gary was pleasantly charming) you can help yourself to the mirage of 'not your average' concession stand items. They offer a few Vegan friendly picks - the Sweet & Sara Rice Krispy Treats, Alternative Baking Company Cookies & Watusee Chickpeatos. The Landmark Theatres Alcohol Policy is posted visibly everywhere you look & will absolutely be requested to show two, yes two of your valid ID's. The attractive round bar provides an engaging social space while you wait for your movie. The renovation from a few years back has done its justice. Before heading into your movie you'll get greeted by more Ushers before settling into your extremely comfortable & spacious seats. The screen was enormous with a highly clear sound system. Parking is available in the garage across from the theatre below the Darcy apartment complex, $1 per hour & another larger garage between Woodmont & Arlington on Bethesda Avenue offering meter parking between 7A-10Pm. Parking is free on Saturdays, Sundays & MoCo Holidays...free Sunday street parking. Just a quick walk from the Bethesda Metro Station - Red Line. Bethesda Cinema offers a sophisticated & mature theater atmosphere with a friendly staff across the board. I look forward to returning to experience their Wednesday Movie Rewind & a bottle of wine.

This will not be an extremely long review , I went to see the Movie If Beale street could talk by James Baldwin . The theater was clean the seating was comfortable in that the chair was pleasant, but it felt jam packed like we were squeezed in side by side and not a lot of leg room .

So this is the week for indie films apparently. Yes, I also went to the movies two days in a row. This was my first time to this theater. Parking proved to be a bigger challenge than expected. It was a Friday night and the area is buzzing with lots of amazing shops. The parking garage was a bit of a nightmare. It's divided into 2 hour and 4 hour parking with meters. Cars were backlogged waiting for a space and trying to navigate the tight corners. After circling for about 10 min a space finally opened up in the 4 hour space. With about 5 min to spare before my movie started I started towards the theatre. Crisis adverted. I had my ticket already and had a print out of it. So I walked right in, took the escalator downstairs and had my ticket scanned. Because I was running a little late I didn't get anything from the concessions stand. I also noticed that they had really nice lounge chairs after your ticket is scanned. Which is nice to relax before a movie. I entered the theater and found my seat E7. Don't sit here if you don't mind having the railing right in front of you for the ramp for handicap access. To be comfortable sitting there you have to put your legs up on the rail which isn't probably the most safe for those passing on the ramp. I sat there but eventually moved seats because the theater was pretty open. The cramped legs and the loud bracelets and chatter from the woman directly behind me was super annoying. Even the folks to my left commented on how loud she was but she was oblivious to this. Maybe she thought because the theater wasn't crowded she could talk as if she were home. I will note I did not hear her male companion at all just her. The seats were pretty comfy and plush. They don't recline, but once I moved from row E I didn't mind that. The sound was really nice. Especially since I was seeing a movie on Cuban music so it felt very much like a concert. The temp initially was pretty warm but I also power walked there because of the parking. But unlike other theaters once my body temp chilled I was very comfy. Not too cold at all. Bottomline: Allow yourself time to park and then the rest is a piece of cake!

My husband and I stopped by here after my appointments at the NIH and our Dulles airport return time home. We attended a matinee. The seat service was good and overall it was a good choice for us.

I can't really truly rate this place. But I will give it 4 stars because it looks so nice inside. I checked in once I got here, thinking I was going to see the black panther movie. However, this is a theater that doesn't have the typical movies. But they do have a person sitting at the booth where you can purchase movie tickets. They also have a place as soon as you walk in where you can purchase your tickets yourself. In addition, they have a huge bar inside on the bottom level. I didn't check it out though. I don't recommend bringing the kids here, this is more like a theater for adults only.

I've always been a huge fan of Landmark theaters, especially the Sunshine one in NYC. They are known to be dedicated in exhibiting and marketing independent film, as well as offer a variety of diverse selections of foreign films, 3-D, Hollywood, as well as smart films. They currently have about 50 theaters across the major cities, offer gourmet concession items, in-theater sales of DVDs/books/CDs, screening lounges at select cities (Berkeley, Dallas, and LA), and digital projection. The staff are pretty friendly, and the price of the tickets are usually a flat fee (they also do student discounts - yippee!) - they also allow you to choose your seats, which is a great plus! I am a huge fan of their white cheddar popcorn seasoner (which seem to be always out at this particular location T___T Catching later shows, do however, only have stale popcorn and limited snacks at the concession stand T___T The movie-going patrons are pretty respectful, as Landmark is totally serious about having high standards in the experience (which I totally love!). I like their comfy leather seats, as it makes your movie-watching that more pleasant. Parking is a little iffy, as downtown Bethesda has limited 2-hour metered parking (but, free after 10PM); there are also plenty of paid parking garages as well. +located around Mon Ami Gabi, next to Haagen-Dazs +student discounts :D +assigned seating available :D +comfy seats :D +limited metered street parking +parking garages available

Tell me one thing. Why do all movie theatre's not serve wine and beer? If I'm watching a movie at home, its usually with a glass of wine/beer/mixed drink... something. It's relaxing time! So when I found out that Bethesda Row Cinema did a reno- and now had a full bar and what not, I was fairly excited. I went to see Blue Jasmine, which I highly recommend. The cinema also has a fairly extensive food menu which I decided to forgo as I had just come from dinner. The theater seats were very comfortable and were leather as opposed to the traditional cloth seating. The theatre was great, I have absolutely no complaints. The seating area outside of the theater is nice too. All around this theater is a real treat to go to now. You're sure to find me there sometime soon, especially enjoying the row - then going and enjoy a movie.

I just read someone's review saying they don't really dig the movie selection here. Ummm... Hello, are we talking about the same theatre?! The best part about this theatre is their movie selection! I can't even count the number of offbeat movies I have watched here - it's just amazing! The fact that the seats are super comfortable just adds to my already stellar experience here. Know that the theaters themselves are a tad bit smaller than say an AMC or regal, but picture and sound quality is also amazing. Another thing that I love about this place( and I think it comes with the fact that they are an indie movie theatre) is the awesome offbeat movie trailers - all of them are awesome and give me an excuse to come see the theatre again since they will most likely play these movies. The fact that this place is bang in the middle of Bethesda downtown is yet another added benefit - I always plan such that we can grab lunch or dinner at jaleo or some other awesome place. Service at this theatre is old fashioned awesomeness - everyone is always smiling and ready to help. Yay for Bethesda row cinema! :)

This is a well maintained independent art house theater. It is easy access from the Bethesda metro station, so heed my advice and take Metro. Parking, particularly in the Bethesda West corridor is horrendous. The closest parking structure is metered, so bring lots of coins to pay up through 10 pm. County lots are free on weekends. The theater has eight screens, one with Dolby sound system. All the comfy stadium seats have unobstructed views. $10 General Admission/$7.50 Bargain Shows. If you want to see indie/foreign films, Bethesda Row is the way to go.

In Korea all theaters have assigned seating. I just came back to the States after living there for a few years and even though at first the seating bothered me, I grew to really app retain it and actually dreaded coming back to theaters without assigned seating. Now there are some drawbacks, as some others have commented on but, for me at least, the positives far out way the inconvenience of having to plan ahead. There is much less stress going in. You don't have to worry about saving seats for friends or family. No wondering if the person with an empty seat next to them will be annoyed if you sit right next to them. More freedom to take the time to get refreshments, which are wonderful at The Row ;). Which leads to less squeezing past someone who has staked their claim to an area. There is one area I would ask the theater to improve upon... Please offer more nonalcoholic drinks for those who cannot partake. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a craft brewed rootbeer? Or a nice ginger beer? Rather than the same old nasty coke products. Maybe I'm the only one who wants that, but I think others would dig it as well :)

I love this place because of the movies, but the service, bar area choices, being able to drink in the theater, snack choices, etc. make this place even better. The staff is always super friendly and chatty, especially if they're not busy. I also like that you can choose your seats. Yeah, that backfired on me once, but I got wise. If I know I'm gonna watch a movie, I stop by the kiosk, select my seats, then go out to eat or walk around. I love that you can select your seats instead of walking around trying to find one. Call me lazy - or just call me a planner. In any case, watch movies here. Recently, 12 Years a Slave & Blue is the Warmest Color have made me happy this place is around.

The Bethesda Row Cinema provides the best theater experience I've ever encountered. There. I got that out of the way early. I mean, one day I might have millions of dollars for a lavish home theater setup, but short of that, Bethesda Row is where it's at. My one beef is the price. Tickets are usually more than ten dollars, but the accoutrements justify the small extra expense. The lobby is spacious with many arranged chairs, a big snack bar (considering there's only 8 screens), and a recently-added full bar. The entire theater was shut down and renovated recently, and everything is very clean and state-of-the-art. Full-color digital screens adjoining individual theater entrances pierce the slightly-dark ambiance of the lobby area to announce each film in vivid detail. Inside the theater, each chair is as comfortable as a recliner, but they're not retractable chairs! They are wide and well-padded - really as comfortable a seat as seems possible in a movie house. This is a good idea for the oft-lengthy independent and classic films forming the Bethesda Row Cinema repertoire. I've also never encountered a problem with noisy or irritating guests in any of the movies I've seen. So grab yourself an italian soda, a latte, a beer, a bourbon, or whatever's your fancy and enjoy movies the way they are meant to be at the Bethesda Row Cinema.

A very comfortable cinema. It has great seats and the back and middle have the best view. not too expensive, 12.50$ for seats at the highlight hours. Good preview selection and there is a bar just outside the theatre. They sell ice cream and pretzels in addition to popcorn.

I used to come here all the time with a client of mine and it has remodeled for the best! The outside looks exactly the same but now the ride down the escalator is like traveling to another time and place! Directly in front of you is the new bar area. Beer and wine at the movies? Yes, please! The concession area is pretty much the same with coffee, gourmet chocolates and your regular movie fare. They now have combos for those of us Yelpers always on the search for a bargain! Right next to the concession is a comfy collection of cushion-y couches! Very stylish and very contemporary. Reminded me of a chic lounge as opposed to a movie theater! I guess this is where you wait for your movie companions while they visit the restroom (which has not changed). I saved the best for last!!! Inside the theater the seats are all LEATHER! They are larger and so comfortable! There are head rests too! The arm rest are padded with a giant cup holder for your icy beverage (alcoholic or non!) Thursday evening ticket was $11.50 to see Chef (great movie if you get a chance to see it) and $8 for a "bargain" combo (kid size popcorn and small drink). I have always enjoyed Bethesda Row Cinema and now I LOVE it!!!

From the friendly staff to the assigned seating reservations to the leather seats with lumbar support and tilt this is obviously not your average cheapo multiplex. We usually go to a Silver Spring multiplex, but in order to see this particular movie we came over here today and were very pleasantly surprised. The only problem is having to pay for parking in the area until 10 pm- so don't assume street parking is free. at night! They did a major renovation about a year ago, adding a circular bar, nice seating area, a little glitz here and there, and updated materials. It's architecturally pleasing as well as practical. Want to compare this to the Angelika theaters? Same concept- a much nicer theater for the same price as a big box store.

First visit here (to see "LIncoln"), very impressed. Enjoyed the quiet, adult-centric design-- no cell phone coverage is a plus. Late showings on a weeknight was nice (on a Sunday night, parking free at the nearby city-run garage past the Barnes&Noble). Screen/sound quality was decent, though not state of the art. Trailers/ads were topical and not random junk. Seats were nicely adjustable, but I was a bit sore from sitting after the 2.5 hour movie. Snack bar is as usual for cinemas overpriced, but higher quality stuff than usually available-- honest tea, real chocolate, etc.

Tell me why it's acceptable to allow a man to smack his gum for the duration of a very quiet movie, but another patron has to dispose of a $15 ice cream bc she missed the small sign saying no outside food/beverage. Honestly -- it isn't right. We switched seats 3 times and could not get away from his pulling the gum out of his mouth and smacking it, incessantly. On top of that, try closing the doors to the actual auditorium so people trying to watch their very quiet movie can actually hear it, and not just all the chatter happening at the bar and in the lobby area. Sorely disappointed by the aggressive ticket collector who was outright rude, and the "manager" who needs training on customer service. I get the no outside food policy -- but make the signs better; it's not like she was trying to sneak in bags of spaghetti.

This is the only movie theater we frequent due to the great selection of independent and limited release films. Isn't it great when a movie doesn't have to rely on a huge budget and special effects to please the mindless masses and instead focus on a well-drawn plot and character development for those with a more discerning taste in films? Also at times there are very few guests during certain hours and showings which gives it a more intimate feeling when watching a film which is always a huge plus.

3.5 stars.. WTF is going on with this theatre lately? I had to drop .5 of a star because of the reasons below: The last two times I've been here, the place has felt like it's on the brink of falling apart. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little :) The restrooms were recently out of order due to a major plumbing issue. Okay, a minor inconvenience.. especially if nature calls when you're in the middle of watching a movie, but I can get over that. However, they didn't offer discounted ticket prices which I think was a bunch of crap. Most recently, I saw a movie in theatre #5 and there must have been a roof leak because at least 6+ seats that were sectioned off, there was a bucket sitting on one of the seats, etc. This is really sad because I absolutely love this theatre but I really hope people keep coming here ALOT, so they can hopefully put those profits to good use & fix the damn place! If not, I may be trekking to their sister theatre, E-Street Cinema in DC.

I love going to see the types of movies shown at the Landmark theatres. Although Bethesda Row is essentially the same thing as the E Street Cinema, I'm glad I've been able to check out this location. I've seen Lincoln and Anna Karenina here, on a Sunday and Saturday, respectively. Bethesda must seriously love indie films, because the place has been a maaaaad house both times. The next two showings of Lincoln were sold out so we had to buy our tickets for several hours in advance and chill at the Cosi around the way. And my friend bought our Anna Karenina tickets in advance, which was good, because by the time we got there, our showing was sold out, along with many of the other movies. So basically, get tickets in advance or prepare to face rejection upon your arrival. Things about this theatre that warrant 5 stars include: -Great selection of movies -Respectful, older crowd -Amazing concessions like teas, Izze sodas, muffins(!), crab pretzels, Toblerones, sweet potato tater tots, and of course, the amazing popcorn with the different flavors of salty goodness, with which I am obsessed. -Convenient location I almost knocked off a star for it being so damned crowded all of the time. But it's not the theatre's fault it's so awesome and everyone wants to be there always.

Went on a Monday afternoon, we were going to order our tix online but saw there was an extra $3.50 fee for ordering online.... decided to take our chances and bought tix at the window.... saved $3.50. We had the whole theater to ourselves... seats are comfy but as most places prices were high for concessions... ended up letting us split a medium popcorn but they had to dump half the popcorn on a carry try because they "can't use another bag"...lol at any rate, it was a good time... 1 star off for not being able to split a bag of popcorn properly but appreciate that the girl at the stand had an option... asked of extra salt for the popcorn and they didn't have it... asked for extra butter and they said they are only allowed to give a certain amount of butter pumps based on the size of the bag.... escalators are out of service... seems kind of run down considering its' in the heart of Bethesda Row... Overall a good experience... sans the $7.75 for a medium popcorn... which we all know is days old and not fresh... would have liked to get a beer or wine to share... but entirely too expensive.... there is clearly a reason why we were the only people here.... movies are just too expensive anymore... but all in all, a good place to see a flick.
