"The screening starts at 6:15 p.m. at the Ritz Five (214 Walnut Street): it’s a documentary about James Beard introduced by director/producer Beth Federici and co-producer Kathleen Squires, and attendees can pay $25 for the film or $65 for both the film and the post-screening reception at Fork in Old City." - Rachel Vigoda

I really enjoy this theater. It’s old for sure and needs some repairs but it has a lot of charm. I’ve gotten to see so many great films here and I’ll continue to come. The only complaint I have is with one of the employees. They usually wear a neon green hat, glasses and a mask over their mouth. I’ve been to this theater multiple times over the years, probably in the triple digits at this point. Every single time I come to this theater and they are working at the concession stand they are sitting their staring at their phone, rolling their eyes if you don’t automatically know what else you want to get. One specific time I was being waited on by them and when I couldn’t decide instantly what drink to get they said “ Oh Cmon” and let out a big sigh. I was so taken back because I was nothing but kind. Last time I was here it was no different, I overheard them make a comment about a guest saying “I don’t care nor will I ever about these people” and when I was being waited on I walked up and waited for them to say anything while I said “hi how are you” and they said “what do you want”. And when I said large popcorn they just pressed the button to put my card down to pay, didn’t ask “can I get anything else for you?” Or anything. I have worked for a big movie chain for years now, I like coming to this theater because it plays a lot of the indies and Netflix films we don’t get. In the 8+ years I’ve been in this industry I have never encountered someone as rude and uncaring that works in theater operations. It’s customer service. You are in service of the public. Yes it can suck sometimes but it’s the job and the industry. Being personable and a good employee is apart of it. The miserable look this employee had every single time a guest walks up is actually laughable. One thing is sure is that you should not be working at this theater.

The first thing that you need to know is that there is not free parking. There is 3 hour parking and meterup parking. But the theater is ok 👍. Good popcorn and soda.

This is the best theater in Philly. Always a great selection of movies- from indie films to mainstream commercial ventures, and the prices are good, especially if you visit in person to buy tickets or watch a movie on a discount day. Concessions are reasonably priced and the popcorn is tasty. Sometimes it’s a little chilly in the theaters but never so much a sweater doesn’t do the trick.

Great movie selections and location but the venue was 🤢. Shot splattered toilets, urine soaked floor, no toilet paper, hand soap thing in the sink?, super humid, didn’t seem like AC was working in the room we watched our film in.

Not the most comfortable seats (it's an older theatre) if you have a bad back, like I do, but the theatre is generally clean, the employees are nice and seem like they're there because they genuinely love movies, and they show great movies that aren't available at other theatres.

Sadly this building is completely falling apart. The specific theater I was in tonight had enormous HOLES in the ceiling and giant water marks. The smell of mold was so strong I was in awe no one walked out. Held my nose the entire movie and am leaving the theater with a cough. Truly flabbergasted this place has the nerve to be open.

Cozy, well-maintained multiplex that screens new releases, indy and classic films. The staff are courteous and helpful. Ritz honors a senior discount to most shows plus they now offer $7 Tuesday night tickets for all. Getting there is a pleasant walk through the Independence historic district.

Saw a movie last night, I can get past the overpriced soda and (not very good) popcorn. But y'all, did a speaker blow or something? The sound was so off during the movie, it took away from the experience for me, especially when it was during a more serious part of the film. I'm a bit annoyed a picked this theater to see a movie I was so excited for and now feel like I have to see it again somewhere else just to fully get the feeling of the film.
