Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Finally Shutters in the French Quarter | Eater New Orleans

"Texas-based Landry’s, Inc., which bought the Bubba Gump chain in 2010, recently opened a Landry’s Seafood House just down the street from Bubba Gump on Decatur Street in February of this year." - Stephanie Carter

Google
Landry’s Seafood House in New Orleans was absolutely excellent from start to finish. We both ordered the lunch box 2-course meal and were blown away by how good everything was. The salads were fresh and the fried fish and shrimp were fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. A must-do tip: get the jambalaya sauce for your onions as it takes everything to another level. We finished with the cinnamon bread pudding and the caramel bourbon apple butter cake, and both desserts were truly exquisite. Every bite was a 10/10. Honestly, this meal made me want to move here just so I could eat this food every single day.

Google
I wanted some fish so decided on Landry's. Was seated right away, upstairs overlooking Jackson Square. Great for people watching. Waiter was great! Took my order, brought out bread and butter. Not even 10 minutes passed and he was already delivering my fish plate. It was all good, fish, fries and onion strings. Even left with a Hurricane.

Google
The entire experience, from prompt seating upon arrival to the captivating ambiance of Landry's, was exceptionally delightful. The attentive service, provided by the host, bar tender and the waiter, was nothing short of commendable. Furthermore, the culinary offerings were both delicious and promptly served. We have only positive feedback regarding this visit.

Google
My son and I stopped in for a little bite to eat and Qwan was our server and recommended the crawfish etouffee, which was delicious! We also had the spinach and artichoke dip which came with pico de gallo and tortilla chips. And the best sweet tea I’ve had in New Orleans! thank you so much for a wonderful experience the view of spectacular and the ambience. Amazing! We will definitely be back when we get back into town again for another visit.

Google
Tried alligator for the first time. It was not distinctive but not bad. Tasted a lot as fried chicken. Crab cake was okay. Gumbo too salty. Nice view of the river

Google
Seanda, our server, was warm and inviting and very attentive to our needs. Her service was prompt and professional, in good Southern tradition. We always enjoy dining at this location and the food and service are always top tier. Thanks Seanda for an excellent lunch experience.

Google
Told by others how great the spinach dip was so I literally didn't have anything else but gumbo👎🏾, dip👍🏽, and a glass of wine. I wasn't really hungry so no opinion on the full menu. Service was good.

Google
We had an amazing dinner, delicious fresh seafood, great steak and dessert. Our waitress Destiny was so nice, friendly smile, and such a great, friendly attitude. Definitely recommend, especially the broiled seafood platter 👏

Yelp
I enjoyed the wonderful food and service we received on our recent visit to Landr's! we had a great Server named Hunter, who was extremely cordial and provided us with gr servic! I enjoyed the fried shrimp platter which was very tasty! I would definitely recommend this restauran!!

Yelp
Amy was great. Food was good and served in a timely manner. Would recommend and would come back again.

Yelp
I sat downstairs, so it wasn't as crowded as Upstairs. I had a crawfish étouffée and a strawberry and basil mocktail. The étouffée spicy in a good way. It had me crying and cleared out my sinuses! My server was really kind. I wish there were TVs here. The ambience kind of sucked.

Yelp
The food was delicious and fresh. The staff were super friendly but also very busy. Great place to stop in and eat fresh seafood.

Yelp
Let me just say that if you're wanting FANTASTIC seafood, FANTASTIC food, and FANTASTIC atmosphere then THIS IS THE PLACE to go!! Our bill was $250 (for 3) and worth every dime. We started off with the fried alligator and the New Orleans Crawfish Bread. Typically, I am NOT a fan of any kind of stuffed seafood bread but I could have eaten an entire loaf by myself!!! Seriously... one order was not enough!! And the fried alligator... it was so tender and perfectly seasoned!!! CHEF'S KISS!!! For our main course we had the fried seafood platter, the Crab Cake dinner and the Shrimp & Crab Capellini. It was ALL phenomenal!!! Our waitress was very friendly and extremely attentive during our meal and we never had to ask for anything because she was always one step ahead of us in anticipating our needs. We were able to dine on the balcony and take in an amazing view while we enjoyed our dinner. 5/5!! This will definitely be a regular in our 'dining out' rotation!

Yelp
It's is more pricey than a typical restaurant but the food and service seem to reflect well. Well themed and decorated. I had a ribeye, calamari my wife had the crab legs. Was a great experience really good food.

Yelp
At first when I heard this wasn't one of those "been here for decades" type of place, I was skeptical. But after ordering and putting that first bite on my tongue, I was a fan!!! Our server was awesome, answered all of our questions and super sweet. The building looks great and looks very nice insides it was a Monday, so it was dead, but I guess lucky for us! I got the broiler seafood platter (can't remember the name) chefs kiss. I wanna comeback already

Yelp
It was the vibes for me. We did request to sit on the patio upstairs, which took us a little longer, but it was worth it. The breeze was everything until the rain came. The oysters were really good, but you only get a half dozen versus other places where you get a for dozen for almost the same price. Our drinks were good and we just got a whole bunch of appetizers for the table the crawfish bread I recommend to soak up some of that alcohol beverage. The fried calamari was crispy, and there were a few surprises of artichoke and fried peppers in there, which were great definitely a place to check out if you are in the area!

Yelp
The restaurant in the prime location for patio seating and people watching. Drinks and a quick appetizer. Our service was attentive and the staff here were great. Came with friends and we enjoyed our time here.

Yelp
Given I have a shellfish allergy, and I'm not a tourist, I know I'm not their target audience, but I gave this place a try because it was my friend's birthday. She loves seafood, so it was disappointing to see her have a bad meal on her birthday. She didn't enjoy her drink or her main course. The drink tasted like cherry cough syrup. She said her dessert was the best part of the meal. I had the alligator bites (bland) and a super basic salad. The service wasn't that great either and it was extremely cold where we were sitting.
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
Service was SO slow ( it took over 30 minutes to get our food and there were only 2 other tables at the restaurant so not busy at all) Food came in and I ordered angel hair pasta that was soooooo overcooked almost impossible to eat.

Yelp
From start to finish, our experience at Landry's was exceptional. The oysters were fresh and perfectly prepared--truly some of the best I've had. Our server, Samuel, provided impeccable service; he was attentive, professional, and ensured every detail was just right. The ambiance was sophisticated yet inviting, and the view from the second floor was delightful. A wonderful dining experience in every way. Thanks again, Samuel!

Yelp
Very meh experience with Laundry's recently. Not the same quality that I've had in the past. We sat at the bar and our service was good. For apps we had the spinach dip and the grilled oysters. The dip was good, we didn't see or taste any crab in it..The oysters were horrible. They had a panko kind of breading and no seasoning whatsoever. Very bland and underwhelming. Drinks were really good. The bartender did her thing. For entrees we had the classic seafood platter and the grilled redfish with crab and cream sauce. The red hair was really good. The seafood platter was nothing special.
google avatar

Petrena G.

Yelp
I Petra Galloway had the Shrimp Cocktail and a salad. My husband Vaughn Galloway had a Fish Po-Boy. It was all delicious. We brought friends from Fla and they loved the food and atmosphere as well. Our waiter Danny was hilarious and did a great job. We definitely will be back. So YES I recommend Landrys Seafood House in NOLA.

Yelp
Great location.. right in front of Jackson Square in New Orleans. Food was great and matched service..

Yelp
Nice watching the ships on the river! Gumbo is spicy , fried calamari was crispy and fresh. Ordered the fish with white wine sauce , nice water view upstairs!
google avatar

Yelp
We came here only for the drinks. We ordered 1 cocktail and 3 mocktails. The drinks were great. The peach sangria was amazing. Restaurant was big and the second floor had a nice view to the French Quarter. However it took almost an hour for 2 of the mocktails to come! No one checked on us and when we finally could flag our waitress and ask, she said that they made them wrong twice! How could you made the mistakes on mocktails twice? Very disappointing.

Yelp
We decided try a more Creole restaurant. Even though Landry!s Seafood House is part of the Landry's chain of restaurants, it has a New Orleans menu. I ordered the Lunch Box 2 Course meal. My starter was the seafood gumbo. While a little salty, it was very tasty and had a lot of crabmeat and shrimp in it. My main course was Red beans and rice. I had to ask the waitress if there was something besides red beans and rice on the plate. She told me there are two pieces of fried fish and a sausage. It was all very good, but I had no idea what kind of fish it was besides white fish. When she brought the check, I asked what kind of fish it was. I just ate my first serving of catfish!

Yelp
Landry's seafood is on the Mississippi and the 2nd floor dining room offers a nice view of the river, Jackson Square and the busy street below. Besides plenty of menu choices, they offer the "lunch box", a 2 course meal with 3 starters and 5 main courses. I started with the seafood gumbo, a well filled soup with plenty of seafood. The taste was great, even though I thought it was a bit salty. As main course I picked the seafood étouffée. I really liked it, it had a generous amount of crawfish. For $18 a really good deal.

Yelp
We went to Landrys for dinner at 5:30pm. We were greeted right away and went upstairs to be seated. They give you the option of taking the stairs or the elevator. Once sat down, we were then greeted by our server and waters brought right away. We ordered a drink and they were good. I was between two meal options and was recommended the pasta. It was good. Not overly powerful with the lemon. The fried seafood was cooked extremely well. Ot came with fish, fries, oniok straws, butterfly shrimp and stuffed shrimp. The coating was great and it did not feel greasy or heavy. It was nice to be able to look out of the windows while having out meals. I highly recommend this location. There are still so many menu items I want to try!

Yelp
This two course lunch was the best value we found in NOLA during our weeklong visit. The portions were generous and tasty. We also ordered appetizers on two visits and both times we were happy we did. The service was friendly and the view from the 2nd floor was nice. On our visits we could hear the live music from street performers at the Cafe Du Monde a short distance away, so it made our lunches all the more enjoyable

Yelp
Well we choose to eat on the patio since it's was a cool day, beware the wind gusts! The indoor seating is a great ambiance and nice woodwork to lend a nice vibe. The menu has a great selection of local seafood. We enjoyed the oysters on 1/2 shell. The crawfish toast was so delicious ! The staff was very friendly and nice. They checked in on our progress appropriately. & the full bar... oh so tasty drinks!

Yelp
Let me tell you, hands down the best food spot we have eaten at on our many adventures to New Orleans. We just happened to eat here by chance because it was close and we were hungry. I had the Lent 2-course Special with the CRAB + CORN BISQUE and TILAPIA BIANCA scallops, shrimp, spinach, tomatoes. pimento cheese grits, lemon butter sauce. I cleaned my plate. My boyfriend had CHICKEN + MUSHROOMS mushroom cream sauce, dirty rice, seasonal vegetable and added the cheese grits. We should have came back our second night here and tried the other dishes. On to our server. She was so sweet and soft spoken. I believe her name was Haylee, but I could be wrong. She was wonderful. We have definitely book marked this place since New Orleans is like a second home to us.

Gayle A.

Yelp
Huge portions of delicious food! We ordered the lunchbox special which had 4 starters and 4 entrees to choose from. I had the shrimp and fish with a huge house salad and my husband had the red rice and beans platter. Both were delicious! We sat on the balcony and had a nice river view with delightful breezes! I definitely would recommend!

Zechariah M.

Yelp
Seanda, our server, was warm and inviting and very attentive to our needs. Her service was prompt and professional, in good Southern tradition. We always enjoy dining at this location and the food and service are always top tier. Thanks Seanda for an excellent lunch experience.

Yelp
Traveling home from Alabama to Texas, we stopped off in New Orleans for lunch. Landry's won because a couple of other places were cash only. We were quickly seated upstairs. Very cool building, nicely decorated. I believe Alex was our server. He warmly greeted you and was helpful with the menu. I went with the Lunch Box 2-Course, Seafood Gumbo & Crawfish Etouffee. The Gumbo was outstanding! I don't know if it's because it's been a minute since I've had any gumbo or this was a good batch, but wow! Seriously, it was outstanding. The Crawfish Etouffee was solid. It didn't blow my pants off like the gumbo but it was good. My wife had the Shrimp + Crab Capellini. It was good as well. All in all, it was a great lunch and the Seafood Gumbo was the star of the show.
google avatar

Pam M.

Yelp
I stopped in and had a small bowl of gumbo. I decided to get the chicken and sausage. They did have some that had crab or shrimp or both but I opted for this one. Was very good. The staff were very friendly and attentive I sat upstairs and had a lovely view.

Amber P.

Yelp
I walked in after a long day at work and Audrey was my bartender! Super cool to talk to and creates great cocktails ! I will be back !

Yelp
This was my first time eating at Landry's this location is beautiful and just minutes away from the steamboat dock. We went around dinner time and there was no crowd even on a Friday night! This food was decent with the flavor and the service was very slow, but overall it was a nice evening.
google avatar

Ben K.

Yelp
Sat on the patio and a beautiful afternoon and had a great service by Samuel. I hadn't been to a Landry's before even though I am a Landry select member overall great experience in New Orleans in the French Quarter.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here to eat because they didn't look busy and i wanted to sit on the patio.  Sadly, the service here needs improvement. The staff was friendly, but not attentive.   It took 30 minutes to get a cup of water and about an hour to get my food.  Others around me waited longer, and some tables even left. The menu has decent variety for a chain, but seemed hit or miss, according to staff.  It's bad when they warn you not to get the gumbo. I ordered the oyster supreme and crawfish bread, and they both tasted great, and the plates were hot. The dining areas and restrooms were clean and offered a pleasant ambiance, but not enough to make me want to come back. Overall, my experience was just okay. For the price, i will find another place in the future.

Yelp
I'll preface this by saying when we showed up here we were in search of some local beer and the large signage for Jackson Brewing was the draw. We walked up the steps in the back along the water to sit in the balcony but couldn't access anything. Along with a few other patrons, we all turned around after finding empty spaces and locked doors. We re-entered on the first floor and migrated upstairs where a host from Landry's seated us outside on the 2nd floor patio. We ordered an Aperol Spritz and a Sazerac. Both were good but took a little time to arrive at the table. The waiter mentioned something about bartender leaving the upstairs bar because of shift change and he had to go downstairs for the drinks. We only ordered the calamari for a snack and it came out pretty quickly. It definitely wasn't anything special but we were hungry and it met the goal of food. It was warm, not hot. There was no garnish of lemon to squeeze on the calamari. The dipping sauce was good but not a lot of it. Sitting outside on the upstairs patio was nice this time of year since the temperature was not too hot.

Yelp
Visiting from Los Angeles. Had the excellent redfish topped with crawfish etouffe and the maple bacon salmon. But even better than the food, Elena provided superior Michelin-star worthy service! She was the absolutely BEST!
google avatar

Teresa W.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING! I had grilled oysters, a crab cake, pimento cheese grits with a house salad. It was all fantastic! The service was also excellent. Samuel James was attentive, and so helpful. He even brought me a sweet tea to go! I also sat in his station longer than normal due to and intense rainstorm I didn't see coming! I also ate here several years ago and it was just as great then. So - CONSISTENCY!!!! And I loved the atmosphere!

Michelle D.

Yelp
Best food and service in New Orleans!!!! So good. The salmon and oysters were impeccable! Throughly I enjoyed our server. She was so sweet and hilarious!!

Yelp
This place was welcoming as soon as we stepped foot in the door. The hostess was friendly and helpful. We dined here as a family of 5 (2 adults, 2 kids and a baby). There was an elevator which helped with the stroller big time. We were sat away from other people (thank youuu) but still had a great view of the river. Our server was friendly as well and super attentive. We ordered the charbroiled oysters and clearly they didn't last long enough to get a picture. Highly recommend those. Shrimp gumbo, shrimp and crab capellini, broiled seafood platter and a kids burger. Everything was good, perfect temperature, and visually appealing. We went on a Friday night about 6pm. Wasn't packed at all. No complaints here.

Yelp
Not sure why the rating for this place is not higher. We enjoyed their happy hour food and service was great!
google avatar

Yelp
The upstairs bar is cute, New Orleans vibes large windows exposed brick. Great view of the river. Crab SPINACH ARTICHOKE DIP & TOMATO MORTAREA CAPRESE apps with friends. Server was nice!
google avatar

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed EVERY DISH. It was food heaven. Everything was executed to perfection. If you're looking for a one menu fits all space where everything is prepared fresh, hot and seasoned I'd recommend. Definitely a safe bet. The place is massive with pockets of dining areas. Ambiance isn't anything to rave about. Crawfish bread had plenty crawfish and flavor. Charbroiled oysters weren't my favorite but I enjoyed what I did have. Perhaps I was a little pattered out. The dip was just as amazing as you'd imagine.
google avatar

Treniece S.

Yelp
I don't frequently visit the French Quarter location of Landry's because of parking, but I was in the area. The view from the 2nd floor is beautiful. You can either have a French Quarter or MS River view. Our seat afforded us a view of both. We were quickly seated and served. The appetizers came out quickly. I ordered the snapper, gator bites, and oysters. Everything was tasty. Our waitress, Lexi was friendly, efficient, and prompt. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful! To top off our visit, Chef Ebony came out to the table to greet our group. When she was told we were celebrating my birthday, she surprised me with a delicious butter cake! What a terrific way to end my celebration!

Yelp
*BEWARE!!!* NEWEST UPDATE*~My husband finally did speak to someone. We were told his whole tip would b returned . This hasn't happened yet. I will update if it actually does. He was also told that legally the police will not do anything because of the small amount. It has to be $500 so themselves can't press charges on Kenny *Who quit when he was confronted with what he did. (Kenny wrote over my husband's amount on the ticket and the man who talked to my husband plainly saw this. ) *Regardless this place was very slow to respond to the issue (snail slow honestly) * He was also told this isn't the first time one of their waiters/waitresses has pulled something like this. Hmm that sounds like a internal issue you need to fix **This place is scamming people and we are contesting a tip that our waiter decided to add more too. The man did not deserve the tip he wants. First off the man could hardly walk literally he was snail slow... If you look at other reviews you will see this has been a problem for awhile. Slow service is a major complaint. I wanted my husband to pick some restaurants he liked . He liked this one. My husband started to feel bad when they brought him his food. He couldn't eat it . He said the smell made him feel nauseated. So he just left his food there . I ate very little because I was so worried about him. Now back to what he is contesting . This is how much it should have been . It was 176.60 as you can plainly see! Mr. Kenny decided to help his self to a 20% tip. Wth!!!! Couple that with my husband . Who started feeling bad the man hardly deserved what my husband gave him which was a 11-12% tip. Look your waiters can't just decide what tip they want. If you will go down in a review 5 months ago you will see this scam has been used on at least one other person. We are contesting it and honestly we are thinking about getting the law involved. As a restaurant this is shady. This was my husband's favorite restaurant up to Kenny. Now he will never ever come back and yes he is thinking about getting the police involved to keep someone else from being scammed!!! His credit card was billed 211.60 !!!!

Yelp
Trace was our bartender, and what a joy he was chatting with my whole family at "my birthday party" in New Orleans in the Quarters. I can't remember exactly how many, but 16 comes to mind, lol We just flooded the bar with our family, and just a few came. Trace came running in and took care of business quickly and in a hurry. He took such good care of us. No one was thirsty. I can assure you of that! Best bartender in Nola, yes! Next, it was time for dinner, and Bianca was our server. She was terrific, and we were beyond a handful. We had a couple of miss steps, but Bianca handled it like a boss, and we could not have enjoyed our celebration more; thanks to Trace and Bianca for making sure we were happy at all moments. Oh yes, we will be back ASAP. The food was delicious, and the drinks were fresh. We all were delighted, and I couldn't have asked for more. So come on down, So see y'all soon yah hear. Cheers all SYOY Review #334 05/21/24

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing! We had my sister's bday dinner here and had the absolute pleasure of meeting Ernest our server, which had us laughing the whole time along with a very high level of service!! The food was absolutely delicious and priced well for a seafood restaurant. I can't recommend this place enough! Ernest we can't wait to come back. thank you for the memories!

Theresa S.

Yelp
The food was pretty decent. However, the customer service given by our waiter Hunter was exceptional! Hunter was extremely polite, friendly, kind and humorous. We loved his courteous manner. Thank you!

Yelp
The food was amazing. Service was top notch. Our waiter Hailey was so knowledgeable in choosing from the menu. Highly recommend the crawfish bread app and snapper!

Yelp
We ate dinner here late on Saturday night. It was nice to sit out on the 2nd floor balcony outside with a nice waterfront view. We had the po'boy that came with fries and onion strings. We got the peach mint mule and the sparkling lavender drink. The service was great.

Smita L.

Yelp
The food was delicious and our server Jerick was friendly and very helpful. The restaurant also has a beautiful vibe. All in all, a great experience!

Yelp
Our waitress, Quan, was super friendly and fun to enjoy our drinks out on the deck. She made for an enjoyable afternoon.

Yelp
Wood plank salmon- took a bite and it was so good I knew I would have to leave a review! The salmon was so yummy topped with crab, a sauce, and mushrooms that made for the perfect bite. . Green beans were just okay but also really enjoyed the alligator bites and oysters. Also ordered at the table was the gumbo and crab cake and were both 10/10! Good service, would recommend!
