Why Spain’s Camino de Santiago is The World’s Best Hike, According to Time Out

Long before the Camino was formalised as a Catholic pilgrimage to Santiago, this Atlantic‑coast outpost functioned as a destination where Druids and Romans came to pray to their gods at what they saw as Land’s End. Pilgrims who reached this edge of the world tasted the sea’s salty air and carried scallop shells back home, and that legacy lives on in the shell markings that still guide travellers along the Camino today. - Dana Cape

Google
Land’s End is a truly iconic spot with stunning coastal scenery and dramatic cliff-top views that feel genuinely special. The walking paths are well kept, and there are plenty of places to pause, take photos and simply enjoy the fresh sea air. The visitor facilities are decent, with cafés, gift shops and attractions for families, and there’s clear signage and ample parking. It can get quite busy during peak seasons and some things are a little pricey, but the natural beauty more than makes up for it. A must-see if you’re visiting Cornwall.

Google
It’s an area of outstanding beauty and worth a look if you’re here in Summer. Our experience was poor. We paid £5.50 for parking as we wanted to grab a bite to eat. We then walked in to find everything closed. If there was signage to notify visitors everything was closed at the car park before we paid it would be fine. But there wasn’t so we wasted our money. The ONLY other thing open was the Land’s End sign where there was a staff member waiting to take $10.99 for a photo… The walks and views are sensational, but no better than other free to access areas all around this beautiful part of the UK. I wish the National Trust hadn’t been outbid for it.

Google
Land's End is beautiful in a rugged way. The views are spectacular on a fine day and even when the weather has closed in the wild wind blown atmosphere of west Cornwall is hard to beat. So why does anyone think a bit of crazy golf and a 4D cinema built in a layout similar to a motorway services is just what you need here? I recommend you park at Sennen Cove Harbour Car Park and walk over to Land's End (15-20 min walk), avoiding the service station vibes. There's a 2 or 2.5 hr circular walk via Nanjizal and then back inland across the fields that's very scenic. (Update: the fact there's a Land's End account that responded to my view kind of illustrates my point - does wild nature need a marketing team and amusement park?)

Google
A must visit area of Cornwall if you're visiting nearby offering incredible views across the coast. We even got lucky enough to spot a seal and spent an hour just watching the dolphins! We got there early before 10am and the place was very quiet, an hour later once the coaches arrive it starts to feel very much like the busy tourist attraction and gets crowded quickly. Getting there early allowed us to take photos in front of the sign without the huge crowds. The sign is now behind a rope where you have to pay £10 for a photo if you want to stand near it. The coastal walks either side are impressive and not too difficult to navigate - there's a ship wreck about a 15 minute walk to the right of the sign which is well worth a visit. And the archway to the left. The food is average at best but also very expensive so would recommend bringing your own. We did the adventure golf which to our surprise was really well done. 15 holes in various pirate themed areas with high production value. It's definitely worth a visit for the stunning landscapes above all else. You can ignore the rest of the experiences but can see why they'd help engage younger visitors. £9 to park all day.

Land’s End is one of those rare places that combines natural beauty with a sense of history and wonder. Standing at the westernmost tip of mainland England, you’re greeted by sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and rugged cliffs that stretch dramatically into the horizon. The coastal walks here are spectacular, offering a chance to soak in Cornwall’s wild landscape while spotting seabirds and, if you’re lucky, even dolphins. The iconic Land’s End signpost makes for a classic photo opportunity, and the visitor centre provides helpful exhibits and amenities without taking away from the natural charm of the spot. Sunset is especially magical, as the sky meets the sea in vibrant colours. Whether you’re there for a quick stop or a long coastal hike, Land’s End truly lives up to its name — it feels like the edge of the world, and it’s a must-visit on any trip to Cornwall.

Google
We went to Land’s End and had a good wander around. There’s no entry fee for the site itself, but you do have to pay for parking, which is 20 minutes free or £7.50 for the day, with no hourly options available. There are a few attractions like the famous Land's end sign, model village, exhibitions and shops, and also plenty of walking paths with great views of the coastline. It’s nice that you can choose between spending money on the activities or just enjoying the scenery. The weather shifted really quickly while we were there—starting off sunny, then suddenly turning cloudy, windy and rainy before clearing again, so it’s worth bringing a jacket even in summer. Overall it’s a good spot to explore for a couple of hours, with dramatic views and enough to do if you want to make a day of it.

Google
Out of season when we visited in December so the only thing open was the gift shop opposite the lands end sign. The views are beautiful- Reason I have give a 3 star review- paid £5.50 for less than a one hour stay (cannot pay by the hour)-Disappointed people are profiting from an area of natural beauty- some families would not be able to afford this in the current crisis. I did see a sign even those with disability badges need to pay the parking fee.

Google
Had a cracking time at Land's End! The views were stunning, and the coastal path was a great way to take it all in. The cafe had decent grub and a warm welcome. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! 🌊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿"

Yelp
We've been in Cornwall before but didn't have time for Land's End. This time around we made sure to visit. Came here a little before lunchtime. Busy, but not too busy. Still plenty of parking left. It was a nice, sunny, picture-perfect day. There is no entrance fee for Land's End. Just the fixed fair priced parking rate. I've read many reviews stating that Land's End became like a theme park, a circus. And I would say that's too harsh. Yes, there are shops, selling lots of souvenirs and touristy stuff. There are games, attractions too. But there are some fun items to be found in the shops. We bought some, we had fun. And there are several food options. Some stalls for a quick bit or a sit-down restaurant with more options. We just grabbed some cornish pasty and a seat outside. And if you're not interested in the museums and the attractions then just skip them. Because Land's End is well worth a visit for the views and the walks. The SW Coast path is just behind the village. Views are spectacular. Walk north toward the "First & Last House" and keep walking along the coast. Or choose to go south from the village. We tried out both. But ended up walking longer on the path going south. Lots of wonderful photo ops, amazing views of the coastline. And not that many walkers even along the way. Would recommend at least sneakers (and not Flip-Flops as we've seen). All in all a very nice visit. Pet-friendly as well! Surely a must-do when in Cornwall if you've never been.

Yelp
Worthy of a visit and a good photo op. However it is rather commercialized at the hotel that is located there.

Yelp
WOOT! Another dream fulfilled! We were in Bodwin, and so made the easy 1,5 hr drive to Land's End aka the western most point of the British Isles. Its a magnificent, breath-taking site, as you view a horizon of sea and sky ahead of you, and the dramatic rocks and headland are all around you. BTW, there were some rocks that reminded me how the stones had split at Giant's Causeway - not sure if anyone else also thinks its a similar resemblance? I loved the sign too! Yes, this area might be a wee bit touristy, but for me, it was a great memento of achieving a life goal! Absolutely recommend coming here, and walking around the cliffs - the sight of that sea and the brisk wind absolutely wakes you up, and makes you feel very connected to the world and humanity! Yelp
Though we were there during terrible weather, it was still a positive experience. We didn't run into any tourists, in fact I believe we were the only people there. The fog was very thick. We walked around for a bit before we headed off.

Yelp
£7.50 to park Places shut early Very expensive food places Cold food aswell 11 pound to take a photo with a sign is a joke which is part of history

Yelp
It is what it is - Land's End. We arrive at 5:00 pm and it was miserable and bleak. Someone has capitalised on the fact that this is a tourist "must see" if you are in this part of the world. You have to pay to park. There is a building at the end and some miniature buildings on display. The view is ok. And as most people say you come here to say that you have been, but don't expect a wow factor. On the other hand drive a little further north near Just, visit Cape Cornwall. That's a wow and parking is free!

Yelp
Hmmtricky one. Looks like I'm the only one here who did enjoy Land's End, perhaps because I didn't spend much time being a tourist in the touristic village that tried to make business with souvenirs, pasties and stuff. Well, I did buy some Cornish ice cream, is that allowed? Land's End actually surprised me with the dramatic scene beyond imagination. I had a picture of just silly rocks and road signs in my head before I went there and of course, it had it all - viewpoint, (great) signs and plain looking rocks, to name a few. But if you step away from the crowd and explore the landmark carefully you will see its hidden beauty at the skyline. The walking path was quite clear and well visible, although it looked like a long way to go it actually took 20-30 mins. Trekking gear is highly recommended i.e. walking boots, waterproof jacket, walking stick as it's quite windy and wet along the way. Good news, there're safety barriers at some part of the path which means you will have to walk along the edge of the cliff with no barriers at some point hence no booze should be allowed during the journey. Not extremely fun for someone who has a mild form of vertigo like me, I felt like I was going to wet my pants when looking down the cliff (but I did not). I eventually made my effort to a wee beach at the end and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Lots of fat seals as a bonus view too. I was glad I made it there. So if you want to give Land's End a visit, I suggest a little bit of exercise on the rocks, it's worth it.

Qype User (.

Yelp
Land's End I'm sure was once a truly beautiful place, but it has since been overshadowed by a cheap tacky theme park to rid hard-working parents of their money to take the kids. If you by-pass the money-hungry area and walk down to the rocks you really can see a remarkable sight. You are standing on the south-western most point of Britain, only topped by the charity trek that many people do from Land's End to St John O'Groats, at the north-eastern tip of Scotland. If you don't mind wasting your money, there are 5 attractions - the latest is Doctor Who Up Close and a shopping village. But my suggestion - take a picnic and sit on the rocks and just enjoy the view.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
We were told not to bother going here, but figured we might as well. Obviously it's a massively tourism fulled area but we basically bypassed all the little shops and just went down and stood on the cliffs. The famous sign is gated off so you can only get right up to it if you pay to have a professional photo of you next to it. How cheeky. But if you don't mind the town saying 'your town here' on it, you can still take photos from a bit further away.

Yelp

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed by Lands End. I think other than to say that you have visited this famous land mark, there is not much to see or do. There are tacky gift shops and other exhibitions which are not really related to lands end, or the local area - I think there was a doctor who exhibition when I visited. The exhibition that provided you with the history of lands end as an attraction was actually quite informative. It was pretty expensive and you also had to pay to have your 'official' photograph taken standing next to the infamous signpost. Lands End is best for a short visit to take in the views, and perhaps go for a short walk along the cliff tops to take in the sea air.

Yelp
I'm afraid I tend to agree with the majority of reviews here. I was so looking forward to my Trip to Lands End and I came back feeling a little dissapointed and let down. I loved seeing the Famous mileage sign and the surrounding coastal path was stunning with beautiful views over the rugged cliffs and open seas. A picture postcard setting and a perfect place for photography. The drive down to Lands End and the nearby beach at Sennan made the whole trip worthwhile. The downside to this attraction was the Touristy Shops and inflatable Slides that just didnt seem to fit in with such a beautiful landmark. The Shops and Cafes were over-priced, and over-run with lots of screaming kids who were attracted by the Fairground rides rather than the Landmark itself. The fact that the 'Mileage Sign' has a fence around it so that you cant take pictures for free is quite sad, I dread to think how much they charged for a photo but I didnt stop around to ask! I'm glad i've been to Lands End, its one of those things that can be ticked off my list but I wouldnt be tempted to go back again.

Yelp
To start, I visited Lands End in the off-season of December, so I have not experienced the touristy feeling many other yelpers have commented on. On the contrary, the area was tranquil with few guests staying at the inn and all of the so called "tourist shops" were closed up for the winter. This area is so amazingly beautiful. Amazing views off the cliffs that the hotel literally stands on. There is a trail that follows the perimeter of the cliffs and lands in a nearby quaint village on the water. Cheap prices for a great hotel as well. Definitely recommend-- come during the offseason as I did if you only care about the geographical beauty!
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Wow, what a view. Wow, how can anybody of allowed someone to build such a horrible, tacky complex on this site. I am a local and everytime I meet a tourist who has been, I feel I have to apologise. These sort of tacky, family entertainment complexes are fine. Just not here. Little tip about getting a photo next to the sign. Don't get an expensive official one in the complex. Go on the public footpath next to it and you can take one free of charge.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
The cliffs, the view, the spray of the Atlantic Ocean - magnificent, breathtaking, stunning... Unfortunately, the atmosphere is spoilt by far too many so-called tourist attractions.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Well overpriced - they sure like to fleece the tourists! I too remember when it was just countryside & it was FAR better than it is now. Nowadays it's just plain tacky - surely we could do better than this?
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
The events here are well worth a visit and the views are spectacular. If you are in west Cornwall then this has to be one of your days out.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Not too impressed by Lands End, I'm afraid. We went out of season so lots of the site was all shut down and looked grubby, and as that's the first thing you get to see it's a poor first impression. It also seems a bit much that you've got to pay to have your photo taken at the famous sign post) The coastline is worth seeing though (but make sure you are well wrapped up if it's a chilly day!) If it wasn't for the fact it's the end of the country, I wouldn't bother going. As some other reviewers have said, I'm sure it would have been much better when there was nothing around there but fields (and coastline and sea!!!)
google avatar

RaeAnna H.

Yelp
The Land's End experience is very 'touristy'. However, saying that, it takes nothing away from the breathtaking views that surround the site. So there are a few tacky gift shops and Brian Blessed narrates the legend of King Arthur, kids will certainly enjoy that while parents will love the cliffs and serene walks.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
What a shame. I came expecting a windswept coast with a humble sign next to a tea shoppe. I should have done my homework and found it was an over commercialised homage to greed. The locals may be glad of the jobs, I'm sure without this place they'd manage just fine. What a let down. On the bright side I visited the RSPB view hut and was pleased to meet real humans who care for the area and the wildlife. Best part of it for me and a pleasure to meet Chris and his Leica's. From the hut we viewed Basking sharks and Shags. There had been an Orca sighted earlier. You can see where the channels mix too, from the Celtic sea to the English channel. Great views to be seen all around Cornwall, shame this is tarnished with tat. It can be ignored, just turn you back in the attractions and see the coast for what it is. Beautiful.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Recently went as I wanted to check it out before I cycled Land's End to John O' Groats. What a horrible place. The views are good but there are better in Cornwall. The thing that ruins it for me is the cheap tacky tourist attractions. However the thing that annoys me the most is charging about £9.50 to have your picture taken next to a sign?! Part of the cycle requires a photo next to the sign. I was hoping to go early in the morning before the official photos but I think the take it down overnight. I don't care if the sign has been private since the 1950s charging for a picture next to a sign is ridiculous.
google avatar

Bethany S.

Yelp
It didn't help that we were there during chilly rain and wind and pretty terrible weather, but the views were still beautiful. It's just kind of a bummer when they charge for parking and there's so many touristy shops and things that don't even look all that nice. We did stop into one cafe for a Cornish pasty and they were really delicious, with a lovely view out the window of the sea. Nice to check out this famous landmark, but not a must-see.
google avatar

Yelp
Of course you are going to visit Land's End if you find yourself in this part of the country. However, go prepared to battle through a naff tourist attraction before you get to see what you really want to. Parking at £6 is a rip-off, yes maybe in a city centre but not in what is comparatively a fairly deserted area. My problem with my whole experience of the attraction side of Land's End is that its expensive for what it is. In a position where there is no competition everything smacks of minimum effort and quality. Souvenirs are really crummy, cheap quality and made with little imagination. We stopped in the main restaurant for a hot drink, worst cup of tea ever and the food everyone around us was eating looked very uninspiring. In my opinion everywhere I have been in the last few years has really upped their game with souvenirs and you can now get some really cool things from places like theme parks, zoos, and national trust-type attractions. Here, some of the things on the shelves weren't even clean and we decided to drive on elsewhere to eat rather than go for anything that was on offer. My personal favourite example of how shoddy things are is the helicopter (maybe Coast guard or air ambulance I can't remember) they have on display were the rubber hands and faces of the dummies inside have perished over time. If you want a picture with the famous sign post it will cost you at least £10. The prices go up with the size and number of prints you have. Initially we were all for it until it transpired that you don't get a digital copy. Maybe that says something about the world I live in but I only print photos I intend to put on the wall and this one wouldn't have made the cut so we took our own unofficial ones from a distance. Lame attraction aside its not a bad view and it is sort of worth standing at the tip of the country but that is about it. I left with the impression it would be better if there was nothing there but the flag pole and the post box.

Qype User (.

Yelp
Lands end is a great place for kids as they have loads of things out doors for them to see and play on. There's a fantastic view from the cliffs over the sea and a rope bridge to walk over from one cliff to another if you are brave enough!! Also this year they have had a Dr Who exhibit there which was fantastic and was loved by my kids even if the Darleks did scare them slightly! A lovely family place to go. There are several nice gift shops to buy presents for people from, and a decent cafe to enjoy your lunch. They also have several areas for picnicking though. Well worth a visit although older children not so keen on climbing frames may be bored unless there is something special on at the time.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Lands End is one of the most famous landmarks in Cornwall. The tourist attractions at Lands End you pay for as you use each individual one. I believe there are around six different paid attractions here, which can work out quite expensive if you take the family to each. Car Parking is £3 a day which is quite expensive considering most tourists attractions in the area offer free parking. In addition, you have to pay for a photo next to the famous Lands End sign post, and you are not allowed to take one yourself. Overall Lands End is a bit of let down and quite expensive, although it still is a great landmark.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
The thought of going to Lands end is appealing, However it is just a way of ripping tourists off. The parking is expensive enough but when you get in there you have to pay for everything extra, If you take children they will want to go in certain exhibitons however take plenty of cash. The scenery is lovely however. If you are only going to go to Cornwall once than I would say go and have a mooch but do not go with to many high hopes.!
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Ok so some people are moaning about the fact that lands end has been turned into a money making tourist attraction, but come on before all there was was a pub saying 'last pub in England' how interesting was that to take the kids to. Now there is a varid array of entertaining little shops and shows to take the kids to, all reasonably priced and very educational. There's the mini village display, helicopters, pirate ships. Places to eat and there's still the 'last pub in England' to see. The kids and I enjoyed our day out there so much and you don't have to pay to walk around so you can enjoy yourself. Free parking and very good disabled toilets and facilities.

Qype User (.

Yelp
Great views but really expensive for not much there. It's very limited not many shops but the ones that are there are overpriced. Quite a disappointment.

Yelp
I can't speak for anyone else, but i go married in this hotel and I would do it all again tomorrow. The hotel organiser planned everything for us perfectly. Our wedding hall was beautifully decorated and the food was outstanding. We had 3 courses all of which were lovely. There was a very good choice of vegetables and all the food was piping hot. Our bedroom was awesome and the views were unimaginable. We had breakfast in the restaurant with all the other hotel guests and we found this food to be as lovely as our wedding banquet. Absolutley no complaints.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
God this place is awful. How the developer managed to turn one of the country's finest landmarks into such a tourist-y, cheap and nasty attraction is beyond me. This place needs to be turned back into what it was - a beautiful, natural place to come and see. Not a money pit full of cheapo shops and silly 'attractions' that it is now. And the prices! Extortionate! The worse thing about this place is the cafe which is beyond bad, the food is awful and the whole place looks like it needs a scrub. Bad bad bad.
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Sadly what was once a unique place in the world has been turned into a major tourist attraction - there is a big gate to go through and you have to pay to get in. It is worth it though to get your photo by the Lands End sign with the mileage to where you live!
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
Land's End has been tamed, tackified and exploited. Why not visit the original Land's End at Cape Cornwall, a few miles up the coast near St. Just. It's wilder, woolier and more scenic. There is a public loo and an excellent refreshment kiosk called Apple's Kitchen in the NT car park.

Qype User (.

Yelp
Lands End gets a lot of stick for being a tourist destination, but at the end of the day it's a privatly owned section of land. It is a really nice place in the winter months but in the summer it gets a bit too crowded. It employs a lot of people and is a great place to visit, just avoid it in the peak season.

A C.

Yelp
I brilliantly arrived before any of the attractions were open, but had previously been told not to bother anyway. They looked impossibly kitschy and probably well overpriced. Instead, did the touristy thing and took pictures at the First and Last Restaurant as well as the famous signpost (which disappears when the place is closed) and then went for a hike towards the Minack Theatre. I think the latter was more interesting.

Qype User (.

Yelp
lands end is a must if you are in that part of the country and into doing the tourist type things. you now have to pay to have your photo taken by the famous sign, but you have the option of getting it personalised, for a personal holiday momento.

Qype User (.

Yelp
I went there on an extremely windy day and the glass door of the souvenier shop broke!!! That was pretty scary. But otherwise, it is a must landmark for a tourist for some good pictures with the land's end sign post. All the attractions are not free there so it's up to you whether you want to pay to enter them but I would say they are overpriced.

Qype User (.

Yelp
crap. Strictly for tourists with no imagination.

Qype User (.

Yelp
If you do not live locally, this is a must stop for holidaymakers. However, although spectacular in scenary, the rather touristy attractions side of the place is not brilliant. The firework displays during summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays (about 10pm) are pretty good, but expect big delays in trying to get home as everyone heads for the exit at the same time.

Qype User (.

Yelp
Except for the stunning views (of which there are very many in Cornwall), this place is shockingly bad! The famous signpost was roped off and if you wanted your photo taken next to it, you had to pay a steep rip-off price to have one taken by a 'professional' photographer. I also noticed what looked like a circle of ancient stones but there was no information anywhere to indicate whether they were genuine or not. If they were, the scruffy attempt at a model village surrounding them was really dreadful. This really isn't the place for a shopping mall (if you can call it that) or a handful of 'attractions' which really belong in the centre of a busy seaside resort. I loved Cornwall but this really is it's blot on the landscape. You can enjoy so many beautiful views elsewere in the county and appreciate the delights of busy seaside resorts so why anyone wanted to ruin this amazing place with this collection of appalling 'attractions' is beyond me. You will not have missed anything if you don't go. I've given it a rating of one star and that's for the beautiful coastal view if you stand with your back to the 'attraction'!!!

Qype User (.

Yelp
lands end is a must see for people travelling to the south west. however it is a little overhyped to my mind. the views spectacular (but thats cornwall for you) and its all in all worth it just to say you've been! it can be a little pricey, and the tourists are aplenty. one little extra, make sure to check out the fudge from the tourist shop as its made on site and the best i have ever tasted.
