I spent an afternoon at Jack London Square and then visited with my husband's sister who lives in Oakland. We were hungry and craving pizza, so she suggested this Lanesplitter location - which wasn't far from her home.
I've had Lanesplitter before, and I like it well enough. They had a couple vegetarian options and I ordered two of the large slices. My husband ordered two slices of pepperoni and a soda (can) - I brought my own container of water. Our total was $18.53.
We finished paying and found a table - there was only one other group seated at this point, and a couple people standing around - yet every table was pretty dirty. As we wiped our table clean, a woman came in asking for money. She asked each person in the place, and a couple kids gave her some change. We had no change and gave her only a smile. I was surprised the employees didn't ask her to go outside, but she wasn't there very long.
We waited a few more minutes before the pizza came out, cooked well-done on request. I ate most of mine and my husband finished his. Before we finished, we found ourselves face to face with the same woman asking for change. We were seated at the table next to the cashier - why do employees find this acceptable? If she had asked for pizza, I'd be okay helping out, but I don't want to be asked to give away money while I'm eating dinner.
