You know how normally you walk into a grocery store and are immediately lost, scrambling, and running into people? You know how normally it takes forever to shop because you can't find the damn pasta aisle? Well say goodbye to all that hassle, and welcome to Langenstein's Grocery.
Situated in the heart of Uptown (right by the Jewish Cemetery), this quaint little spot is not hard to get to, and parking is never an issue. Immediately upon walking in, I was reminded of the small grocery stores you find in Europe. It's a comfortable space with all items that one could possibly need for the kitchen. Every brand sold at Lang's is quality. You don't have to dig/search aisles to find the most quality flour or most sturdy foil, because all of the brands carried by Lang's are top-notch. They may not have some things, like obscure flavored Mayonnaise and colored Ketchup--but I think the absence of these items, in many ways, is a plus.
The DELI IS AMAZING. They have all sorts of meats, all without preservatives or fillers. I'm telling you, from pastrami to honey turkey, the meats are FANTASTIC. They also slice house-made or Boar's Head cheeses for you, and have an abundance of flavors of those as well.
The little tin-foil packages of casseroles and spaghetti and other frozen meals at Lang's are also mouth watering! I babysit for a family that swears by the red beans and rice, the chicken enchilada casserole, and the chicken spaghetti. All of these homemade dishes are fresh-tasting and made right. The ingredients are right on the outside of the box, too, so you know what you're in for. Unlike many casserole/dinner dishes at other delis, these are hearty but won't weigh you down with cheese/mayo/butter, etc. They are PERFECT for busy moms with a family to feed, and also... relatively CHEAP.
Ah, the lovliness goes on and on at this little family owned grocery, and I've never seen a rude person walk through the doors. It's as if the grocery store itself is a small community where you know you'll find what you need and eat happy.
Cheers to you Langenstein's!
