Well, this place has certainly blown me away! It's been the first time, that I've ever stayed anywhere so exquisite! Driving up the driveway, you are greeted with this 14th century castle towering high above you, a standing testament to the history of what once was. It's like stepping back in time, as you walk through the door. I cannot fault any of the staff at all as their attentiveness, attention to detail and willingness to provide excellent customer service is stellar! Greeted with a smile upon arrival, and a very swift check-in. I was informed of breakfast times and when the daily tour took place (each day, weather permitting, at 10:15. They provide you with a slip of paper stating your room number, so that any purchases such as dinner and such, can be billed to your room number and then simply paid at checkout... Simple! The room I had, the Castle View, was wonderful! VERY clean and cosy with a comfortable bed, TV and a spacious bathroom (again, everything was super clean and to a high standard!) I even got a lovely view of the castle out of my window, and saw the resident peacock too upon arrival! There are spaces at the top where the castle is, midway for those in Castle view, and then at the bottom too. There are a number of places not far from here including Vindolanda, the Roman Army Museum and Hexham Abbey to name a few.
So I had dinner the first night I was there, and wow! A very regal feel, with everything set out beautifully. I was handed the 'fine dining' menu at first, but asked the lady if the 'relaxed dining' one was available instead (don't be afraid to ask for it!) I waited in the Drawing Room, until I had ordered and was then shown downstairs to my table by a very pleasant and polite young lady. I had the Langley burger and honestly? It's one of the best I've had. All the flavours were a real taste sensation, and I loved the little glass pots of ketchup and mayonnaise (heinz, so only the best!) Presented wonderfully, as was my sticky toffee pudding! Everything was fresh, hot and tasted delicious! I loved the real lit candles too, really added a cosy atmosphere to the restaurant.
Breakfast? Well, 'twas marvellous! The menu was extensive ranging from granola, cereals, pain au chocolat and fruit salad to name a few, along with tea, coffee etc and juices. For the hot breakfast, there was a selection including the Northumbrian breakfast, eggs benedict and others. I went for the Northumbrian breakfast and enjoyed every mouthful! The proper pork sausage was cooked well, as was the two slices of bacon. The scrambled eggs were wonderful and there was plenty of toast too! (also, heinz ketchup and brown sauce, along with a selection of jam and honey!) As I mentioned earlier, all the staff were incredible and their customer service was top notch, asked if everything was okay with the food and ensuring a grand service throughout! The lady who checked me out, was also extremely pleasant too and had a warm farewell from her, which was lovely!
Thank you to all the staff at Langley Castle, for making the stay a most enjoyable one! And I'd thoroughly recommend anyone looking for a special to place to spend a night or two, give Langley Castle a go... You won't be disappointed!
