The Best Restaurants in Eugene, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This food cart permanently parked on the back patio of host bar, Beergarden, is a mainstay for Hawaiian flavors — think gravy slathered loco moco, salty kalua pork tacos with refreshing sesame slaw, and spicy Pele chicken. In 2023, Lani expanded to a second outpost for tropical flavors in Springfield serving an expanded menu that includes items like krab Rangoon and Spam fries, panko-breaded and fried Spam; they pair well with the bar’s mai tais. Save room for Spam musubi and Dole whip." - Brenna Houck

Never misses! Loco moco is normally my go to! However, the spam musubi is why my husband and I keep coming back! Our favorite spam musubi in Eugene and Springfield! Maybe even Oregon? Try the teriyaki beef! Very tender! Love having a drink and waiting for our food! Never seems like too long of a wait. Maybe it’s the drinks?

Google
My son took me here for the first time this last Friday and the food was great! Fantastic spot and out of the weather when it rains! Also has an inside bar maybe 10 feet away. 🤙🏽

Google
There were a couple of food trucks to choose from inside Beergarden. We decided for some Hawaiian food. We had teriyaki and Pele chicken, and they were delicious! Definitely recommended!

Google
Ordered delivery for the first time. My husband loves this place!!! Get the food, open it up and THERES AN ANT IN IT 🤢🤢🤢 definitely don't recommend after that. Don't get me wrong food is great but not a dang ant in it!

Google
First time trying and certainly won't be the last. The Mac salad is one of the best I've had, nice rich and creamy

Google
So my daughter and I went to the Beergarden for dinner tonight and to play some Bingo. My daughter is 9 years old and I'm trying to teach her to be independent and build confidence in herself, so I gave her the money and had her go order her food. It took a little longer than expected, but she eventually got back to the table. A few minutes later a guest at another table got my attention and informed me that after my daughter paid for her food the girl in the window proceeded to pretend my daughter wasn't there in order to keep the change. The woman also informed me that my daughter knew what was happening and stood there looking at the girl until she realized she wasn't gonna get away with stealing from her and gave her the change. I'm pretty sure my daughter STILL tipped her, showing that there is still hope. All in all, I hope that child who they let be the face of their business and tried stealing from my child loses her job IMMEDIATELY. NOT OK

Google
Hands down one of our favorite food options in Eugene and Springfield. Better than any other Hawaiian option. We have tried them all. And they have a punch card to get a free meal when you buy 9 or 10 meals which is so cool.

Google
Amazing food!! I am so glad I tried this place, I am extremely impressed with the food, the prices, and the portions!!! Way better than Hawaiian time and about the same price. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Love coming here as a substitute to something fast like Hawaiian time. Delicious noodles and mac salad. The mac salad is a little more on the savory side than sweet like Hawaiian times. I absolutely LOVE the garlic chicken, it had the perfect combo of flavor and crunchy texture. Teriyaki chicken on the other hand was kinda mediocre to me. Portions are great, food truck also in the perfect spot to lounge in. Staff and service is always good even when busy

Yelp
Out of the Hawaiian food I have tried in Eugene, Lani Moku is one of my favorite spots! Their beer garden location is so cute. Definitely a fun local spot to check out if you haven't been yet. Multiple different food vendors in a tented outdoor area. They have a large variety of menu items besides the typical Hawaiian plate meal like fish tacos, sliders, loco moco, and more. They are also on grub hub which is nice if you want to order in. Employees were super friendly and food comes hot and fresh. Great experience.

Yelp
Really good Hawaii style plate lunches! Our go to is the garlic chicken plate with pieces of chicken on a bed of rice plus another scoop of rice and mac salad. The chicken is sweet seasoned, battered and fried. The batter is very light and crispy with- you're actually biting into chicken not batter as we've had at other places. The chicken is moist and soft. My DIL who is from Hawaii says this is one of the best Korean garlic chicken she's had. Only thing the mac salad had a bit too much mayonnaise but has a nice vinegar taste. Thumbs up for this place!

Yelp
So delicious! We had the teriyaki tempeh with rice, Mac salad, and noodles. Everything was so good and tasted really fresh! I'll come back again for sure:)

Yelp
Wow - our order weirdly said it was sent but didn't send. The people at the counter were so kind and courteous and gave us the order no questions. The food, as usual was excellent! You can't beat the Pele Chicken here for sure!!!

Yelp
Have always loved Lani Moku at the Beer Garden, so tonight we decided to grab takeout for our family from their new location in Springfield (the fact they had kid meals on the menu was a bonus!). However, comparing it to what we've had in the past from the food truck, this was subpar. Not a whole lot to explain, other than, it just didn't taste great, the garlic chicken wasn't very crispy and the noodles were pretty mushy. But most disappointing were the kid meals we ordered. We've never been disappointed with a kids meal from other local restaurants. It's always been more than enough for our 6 year old and 11 year old. We ordered the kids noodle bowl and the kids teriyaki chicken and rice w/Mac salad. First the noodle bowl was $5 and we were able to fit the entire portion into a one cup measuring cup. Second, the teriyaki chicken plate came with maybe 1/4th cup of Mac salad, 1/3 cup of rice and 4 small pieces of chicken. There was also a side of fruit included (the strawberries looked like they had been frozen). That was $7. Because of that I would not suggest eating here with kids if you're planning on ordering them a kids meal. (( I included a picture of the teriyaki meal. We had already scoped the Mac salad out of the container but you can see the portion size easily when comparing it to the small orange slice and strawberry pieces. ))

Yelp
The place is so nice the tables everything is so clean . However do keep in mind that when you order garlic shrimp is nothing like a normal garlic shrimp plate . The shrimp is spicy and the menu doesn't say anything plus the plate didn't have any garlic . I wasn't sure at this point why this plate is call garlic shrimp . I will strongly suggest to change the name or tell your customers "the garlic shrimp" is spicy. Service is great girl was so sweet . I just wish they actually have da hawaiian garlic shrimp

Yelp
There was a misunderstanding with my order, instead of remaking it, the worker made me reorder and pay again. She didn't apologize for the mistake / confusion or anything. I asked for my coleslaw on the side. It was in the same container and even spilling into the other items. I'm super picky and the coleslaw wasn't going to be for me. $17 plus my $4 tip gone I don't mind mistakes. Its how you handle it. Customer service matters. I don't know how Lani Moku will handle this complaint, but the worker today failed.

Yelp
Foods good. Girl who takes the orders attitude sucks. So 1 star. Get that girl a happy meal.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
Really really bad. I've never eaten anything as salty in my life. It was so salty I was unable to finish my food. The noodles were just not good and vegetables were even worse. It tasted like the vegetables were frozen and not fully cooked when sent out. I wanted food to remind me of my time in Hawaii and this was not it. I've never been so disappointed in Kailua pork. My girlfriend and I both got very sick after eating here
google avatar

Cindy K.

Yelp
I can't believe this truck only has 3 stars. This is the best truck in the beer garden! Their kalua pig is the best I've had from a restaurant in Oregon so far (for reference I've also had GrindWitTryz in Portland and GetSum in Corvallis). Their prices are reasonable and portions make sense for the cost. If I lived close by I would eat this every week.
google avatar

Yelp
I love Lani Moku and every time I'm at Beergarden it's my immediate go-to. Everything I try is delicious and I'm always craving their chicken katsu. Great venue, great food, highly recommend.

Carlee A.

Yelp
I had the Garlic Shrimp tacos and they were amazing!!! The staff was so friendly day and the restaurant was very clean.
google avatar

Lael S.

Yelp
Lani Moku Grill serve the best teriyaki chicken and macaroni salad I've had in a while. Fresh veggies. Fast and friendly service as well. Bright, fun atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Adriana M.

Yelp
pretty good portions but the noodles are skinny and the mac salad is so saucy and milky needs some veggie and some more seasoning but the garlic chicken was good !
google avatar

Sydney T.

Yelp
Kalua Pig was AMAZING. So soft that it felt like it was melting in my mouth. Perfectly seasoned and perfect texture. I wish I lived in Eugene so that I could grab some whenever I wanted. Chicken was also pretty good. I enjoyed the yakisoba option over the typical rice bed.

Corbin C.

Yelp
I came in ordered took like 35 mins lady said they buzzed the ready alarm thing n food got cold outta pocket fr

Emmalee R.

Yelp
Amazing food and great customer service! Thank you! I also think it is pretty cool they bake their own desserts!

Celzo W.

Yelp
Great food and service! Never had to wait more than 10 minutes for our food! Always packs the plate to the top and they are always very friendly!

Yelp
This is what 14 dollars for a beef teriyaki gets you. I couldn't believe it. This is an $ 8.99 at best and that's being generous. The beef was pretty flat and tough and the amount of rice and noodles you get, especially when you are given the chance to swap the macaroni side with *extra* rice is laughable.
google avatar

Robbin T.

Yelp
The garlic chicken is the best in town. the problem is their website is a mess. To order online for pickup you have to call a number that doesn't work...no one answers and you get a message that the mail box hadn't been set up. Their website shows garlic chicken is $11, nope...it's $15 if you try to order through Beer Garden. Lani Moku is making it"not worth the hassle and misinformation". Finding seating for 6 is difficult sometimes at Beer Garden so we were going to pick up 6 garlic chickens...Guess I'll take my $90+ somewhere else.

Yelp
3.5 stars Great price and portion of food for a relaxing dinner in a beer garden. The food trailer is located inside beer garden and offers Hawaiian/asian fusion food. We initially wanted to try their chicken katsu dish but since they ran out of katsu, we opted for garlic chicken along with choices of noodles and macaroni salad ($8) instead. Overall, the Mac salad was cool and refreshing with tasty flavor. The chicken was crunchy but was drenched in a sauce that was a tad too sweet..but if you eat the chicken with the sauce which it's still hot...it wasn't too bad. The noodles were way too sweet and to me..very passable though. It was a simple lo mein in my mind...except...way sweeter and looked a lil oily too. Overall, service took quite a while from the time we ordered to the time the lady brought our plate to our table...the portion was definitely good and big for $8 ...but if they could cut back on sweetness of the sauce and noodles...I think I would like it much better.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow if you looking for some Hawaiian god to bring your taste buds back to the islands...this isn't the place. Ordered delivery tonight. Mac salad only mayo and noodles, no flavor, heavy on the mayo. Not Hawaiian. Mixed plate and the pele beef plates were equally disappointing. Not shoyu included, Teri beef and chicken incredibly dry. I really liked the pele sauce...only wished there was more.

Cat H.

Yelp
WOW. How about I start with extreme amount of time that we had to wait for our food. After ordering we waited 45 mins+ before we were told they ran out of garlic chicken and it will be another 15 minutes if we wanted to wait for it, because they had to go get more. WTF? No. No more waiting. It seems to be a pattern with them that they run out of their food frequently. They offered to refund the 2 dollars that we paid extra to have the combo plate, or we could have a side of something, which we chose rice. After we received our food which was about an hour later, we opened it to find very skimpy portions, the noodles were limp and mushy, and the teriyaki chicken was barely warm and tasteless. There was hardly any teriyaki on the chicken and they did not give any at all with the food! EVEN BETTER...The side of rice they gave us was ONE LITTLE SCOOP and as dry as the fricken Sahara desert. (See photo below) That crap went straight into the garbage can. Please do not waste your money and time on this place. They are EXTREMELY overpriced for the dinky portions they give people and TERRIBLE quality of food. I am VERY disappointed and will NEVER recommend this place to anyone.
google avatar

K J.

Yelp
Made the mistake of ordering 3 teriyaki chickens and only 1 garlic chicken. The teriyaki chicken was by far the worst i have ever had. It was over cooked, extremely dry and had absolutely no flavor!! Should have used it for fire starter because it was so dry. The garlic chicken was much better. If no restaurants are open and this is the only place left to eat, order the garlic chicken so you can at least have some flavor in your food or just chew your finger nails.

Yelp
Sad to see all these one stars. Lani is the best Hawaiian in Eugene. Clearly these people are all rookies and don't know what to get. Definitely go to Beergarden and sit there, have a beer and enjoy the sun...you probably don't get enough of it. I typically get the garlic chicken or shrimp with teriyaki chicken or beef. I've recently been getting half noodles and half rice with a side salad over mac salad (never really been a fan of mac salad). Always ask for a togo box in case you don't finish. I also have a theory you get a little more food in a box vs a plate. The people have always been friendly and quick to rectify a mistake (if your side was wrong or something like that). Definitely give it a shot and check out the beergarden if you haven't already. Such a nice outdoor experience. Hopefully they get rid of covid distancing online menus bc that shit sucks
google avatar

Hannah M.

Yelp
This is some of the best Hawaiian food I've tried! It isn't a fusion place and has a very traditional Hawaiian menu. I've had most of the combos here, and especially love the garlic chicken and shrimp. People love the kahlua pork as well. Their garlic noodles are a must! Usually I do half half with white rice. Their Mac salad is okay, I've had better. Their Spam Musubi is super fresh and I love the teriyaki sauce they use. Usually I see this place at BeerGarden or PublicHouse. They're always super consistent. Will come back anytime I'm in the area!

Yelp
Quite a good little food truck that serves some fairly good Hawaiian food for the area. Situated in the Beergarden, this dark turquoise/blueish food truck offers prime Hawaiian plate lunches. From katsu to garlic chicken, they got a bit of everything for this food type. I ordered the garlic fried chicken with mac salad and white rice. After a decent wait, I got a full to-go box filled with some tasty and garlicky smelling stuff. It was good, but I wish it had more sauce. The garlic was there, but it was a bit subtle compared to a variety of other places that crank that bit of flavor all the way up. It needed some more kick in flavor. A second visit would see the chicken katsu come my way and it was some perfectly fried chicken with a lovely and bold sweet sauce on the side. With both came some tasty macaroni salad as well, and usually I'm not a fan. The ambience of the truck was chill, and that's both its greatest strength and weakness. It took a bit for me to get my order in while standing in the window with an employee right at the window. I wasn't too sure if they were checking another other, but I was starting to get impatient before he finally said he was about to take my order in a second. But, that's my only knick on it. However, given the location, I'm sure the consumption of local brew makes things a bit more relaxed here. This truck can be proud to know they have food better than a certain Hawaiian fast food chain in Eugene. The food's pretty good.

Yelp
I truly like Hawaiian food and I am always on the hunt for it. While scrolling through yelp I came across this place. Plus, I haven't been to the Beer Garden, so I guess two birds with one stone. The setting is great and makes for a picnic like experience. I went with my son and went to Lani Moku Grill. We got half pele and half teriyaki chicken with all mac. The teriyaki was a bit too smoky for me and the mac was heavier in texture than most mac salad that I have tried. I wasn't a fan of this texture, but flavor was good. The pele chicken was great and it was the star of the plate. It wasn't too spicy and not to sweet. Just right! The staff was friendly, upbeat, and great. If I am in the neighborhood, I will have no problems stopping by. Next time though I will be eyeing the garlic chicken!

P C.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME! Always consistent, super friendly and their food is off the charts good. The mix plate with the garlic shrimp and Tempeh in Pele sauce is my go to and it never disappoints! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Aron G.

Yelp
The service is great, the food is fresh , but more importantly the food is delicious! A full plate of food for $9-$10. If you all are getting sick and tired of Panda Express, get some home cooked food right here!
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
I was getting a little burned out on Yelp, but eating here has inspired me to give reviews again because they are that good! I just love the garlic chicken on a bed of salad. My kids gobble up the teriyaki chicken and mac salad, so a dinner that both kids enjoy is right there worth 5 stars. The service is quick and friendly, always a plus.

E P.

Yelp
Normally the food and service is great. Tonight not so much. Easy mistake but we asked for noodles on both meals but got rice instead. We were hungry so ate and left.
google avatar

Abdullah A.

Yelp
I came in with a ravenous hunger after a long bike ride. I went with a mixed plate, half kalua pork and half garlic chicken. The food was ready incredibly quickly, which was much appreciated given my state at the time. I thought the meats were great, especially the garlic chicken, which was lightly breaded and juicy. The meal came with two scoops of white rice. I did not like the mac salad very much, too heavy on the mayonnaise. Eating in the repurposed former church was fun.
google avatar

Wing L.

Yelp
Local food in Eugene! Great little find at this food truck located at Beergarden. Located in the back patio where the food trucks are, you should see this truck right when you walk out. Combo dish is worth it - you get to pick two different entrees, served with rice and one side. I picked the garlic chicken & pele chicken (sweet & spicy) - didn't disappoint! Also got the asian sesame slaw as a side. Perfect portion and it filled my tummy! Boyfriend got the garlic chicken & chicken katsu - also good, though they didn't serve it with katsu sauce. This place def hit the spot!
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Mmm I love this food truck. My favorite items are their garlic chicken and chicken katsu. I still need to try their loco moco though. When I came here for the first time, they ran out of spam musubis! I was so sad! But it's all good because I can make them myself. I'm knocking off a star only because it takes forever to get the food.
google avatar

Navneeta M.

Yelp
We ate here today for the first time. So glad we did because this is going to be our new spot for the days we get a craving for quick and delicious food. I can't believe how fast they were. We walked up to the truck and the food was ready before we even turned to walk away. The service was great, and the workers were super helpful. I would reccomend!!!
google avatar

Jasmine T.

Yelp
Meat is very good, generous portions. We ordered the garlic chicken and the teriyaki chicken, both good. The slaw was okay, Mac salad is great. I would order the teriyaki chicken and Mac!
google avatar

Passad K.

Yelp
3.5 starts for the food. Having said that their app is confusing and takes way more time that it should. Not only that it automatically closed the tab without telling me, while also adding a 20% tip for what was pretty lethargic service.

Yelp
SUMMARY: AMAZING! You haven't been yet? You better get with it and get over here... . DETAILS: I moved here to Eugene from Hawaii (by way of San Diego for 14 years) and have been longing to have some good "local" food or plate lunch as a lot of people know it. I am sorry but the Hawaiian food options in town are NOT authentic in my estimation and none even have the big fan favorites ( like Chicken Katsu) ... Sauces are sub par and the food is just not as good. Until.... ENTER LANI MOKU........ Holy Mambos Chelsy is awesome -- not only is she first rate as a person and extremely customer service based but the food is AWESOME. Lets go through it because she was nice enough to let me sample the homemade sauces she makes. Pele Chicken -- this is grilled and not breaded chicken cooked to perfect. The piece I had was white meat so I assume that it will be all white meat chicken (my fave). The sauce was spicy but not just HOT it was full of flavor. DEFINITELY will order this someday. Kahlua Pork --- CHELSY nailed this. So I am a HUGE fan of using Hawaiian Rock/Sea Salt on Meat.... Obviously she can't use an Imu here in Eugene (well without some difficulties), but she nailed the flavor, texture, saltiness and all together ono-ness of TRUE Kahlua Pork. You haven't ever tried it? What are you waiting for. Musubi - So Lani Moku makes a traditional musubi... I am not a fan of Nori (I know I know its almost sacrilegious) so Chelsy said that she would accept a special order for me when I want some... YES! Now to the BEST part - Garlic Chicken -- for those of you not from Oahu - there is a place called Mitsu-Kens which takes the cake in all matters having to do with Garlic Chicken. Chelsy listened to my explanation and it sounded like she makes it similar (without having tried it herself I think)... I got the plate lunch (basically always two scoops of rice and a scoop of mac salad with your entree).... The garlic chicken melted in my mouth. It was cooked to perfection and the sauce was so spot on. I swear this woman has created a customer for life... I will use her for catering. SO FREAKING awesome... Don't believe me? Try it... YUMM!!! So basically you need to JUST go and try this place. Next on my list -- one of my faves --- LOCO MOCO and trust me -- you want to try Katsu Chicken if you haven't tried it yet! Thank you for opening here Chelsy! I am happy we are able to support your dreams....
google avatar

Madison M.

Yelp
The tempeh was BOMB!! It had great flavor and was just the right amount of crispy. It was some of the best I've had. The pele sauce they used with it was also really good. The noodles were pretty good but tasted even better with sriracha. The slaw was better than most slaws I've had, and same with the mac salad. The portions of the sides were pretty small though, but it may have been because I ordered to go. Most other people I saw eating at beergarden had a lot more than I got.
google avatar

Joleen K.

Yelp
After my honeymoon in Kauai, I was craving mix plates. This place caught my eye as the best food truck in Beer Garden! I got Katsu, mac salad, and musubi...it was all delicious and I had plenty of leftovers.
google avatar

Megan E.

Yelp
The best Hawaiian food in Eugene! My fav is half chicken katsu half garlic chicken. Oh and can't forget a spam musubi.
google avatar

Ivy M.

Yelp
Before Lani Moku I was convinced I a) hated tempeh and b) hated mac salad. If you're also convinced of the same things Lani Moku will change your mind. The fried tempeh is amazing. Though I will say I find the sauce options lackluster and I always have to drench whatever protein option i'm getting with more sauce and sriracha On the plus side, I never had mac salad quite like the one here. The reason I don't normally like mac salad is because it's bland. Here it's spiced and works well with any protein you decide to go with.

Emily L.

Yelp
Lani moku has amazing food! They catered our wedding and did a fantastic job. Everyone was raving about their delicious food!
google avatar

Boyee C.

Yelp
I ordered right after my friends and they took like 10 minutes to bring my order out after I asked them about it then they didn't give me sauce for my chicken katsu and I asked for a side of Mac and they gave me a side of rice the people there was also rude and not helpful
google avatar

Scott E.

Yelp
Hands down the best Hawaiian food in town. Love the $2 spam musubi and the Garlic Chicken is dope. The Mac salad is a step above most of the other Hawaiian places. They also have Teriyaki Chicken, Kalua pork, Chicken Katsu, and many other great dishes. I like mine Hawaiian style with two scoops rice but they can be ordered with noodles instead if desired.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Aloha! First timer at the Lani Moku Grill food truck yesterday. It was a delicious event. I had the teriyaki chicken, white rice and coleslaw. Wonderful flavors and the available sauces kicked up the heat to a very enjoyable lunch. I will be watching for them in the future not only for their great food and fun attitude, but because of their local community support! You won't be disappointed at this stop. Bon appetit.

Yelp
Food was delivered on time. Ordered the combo plate with Kalua pig and teriyaki chicken. Chicken was very dry. Everything else was...meh.
