At Lannan Bakery, the hype and the queue is very real - Review - Edinburgh - The Infatuation

"Edinburgh isn’t known for its dry weather and you should use that knowledge to your advantage when it comes to Lannan Bakery. Famous for both its extraordinary pastries and its sometimes security-guarded queue, this bakery in picturesque Stockbridge has become an international destination in itself." - Jake Missing

Lannan on Hamilton in Edinburgh has been recently recognized as Best New Bakery in the World. People line up long before the doors open...and long after. I got into line and waited a half hour to get in on a chilly day. I ordered a few items so I could try a range of pastries. Wow. The textures and flavors are amazing. The presentation is incredible. Service is very organized and swift when you get in. I was thoroughly impressed! They also have java on site. 5 x 🥐🥐🥐🥐🥐

We queued for over an hour on a Sunday afternoon — mostly because the service, while unhurried, is truly attentive and high quality. I’d say it could be a little faster without losing its friendly touch. The pastries were good, though not outstanding; it was a nice place to try, but I probably wouldn’t return unless ordering in advance (which thankfully is possible!). My favourite pastry was the Dauphinoise with cheese and artichokes — it was truly special and definitely worth a try.

I visited Lannan Bakery after seeing their desserts on Instagram and ended up waiting about 45 minutes in line. The staff were really helpful and pointed out the halal options. I tried the pain au chocolat, cardamom bun, dates & butterscotch muffin, Basque cheesecake, dauphinoise and tête de moine. The Basque cheesecake was incredible, and I loved the dates & butterscotch muffin. The cardamom bun and pain au chocolat were good, but I wasn’t impressed with the dauphinoise or tête de moine. Overall, worth a visit for the standout items.

I didn’t realise the line for Lannan was that long, but I decided to wait and see what all the fuss was about; and I’m so glad I did! I ordered the cardamom sweet pastry and the vegetarian cheese focaccia, and both were absolutely delicious!!! The flavours were perfectly balanced, fresh, and clearly made with care. It was definitely on the pricier side, but completely worth it for the quality and experience. The only downside is… now I know it’s worth the hype, which means I’ll have to face that long line again next time! Totally recommend if you’re in Edinburgh and love amazing baked goods.

We put through a pre-order for collection on New Year's Eve which i highly recommend to secure the goods without risk of sellout and the need to queue. A person marshalling the queue led us to the pantry where our order box was ready and waiting. Very efficient! We ordered a mixture of sweet and savoury and were very happy with our choices. The croissant and braised leek with oglesheild being our favourites. The croissant-based pastries were perfectly flaky and crispy. The braised leek was filled full of flavour. If there was one criticism, i would have liked there to be a little more filling in the tartiflette with cornichons and the jerusalem artichoke savoury pastry as you had to wait until the middle to really experience the taste. However the quality, presentation and service were undeniable and we will definitely be back.

Have been 3 or 4 times now and while it’s definitely a treat kind of spot, it is incredible every single time! Haven’t ever had to queue more than half an hour, the staff and pastries are both superb, and you can really feel and taste how much care has gone into every aspect of the business. As an Edinburgh local I’m always surprised to see the bitter/mean reviews of this bakery, we are so, so lucky to have this world-class, award winning bakery in our city to enjoy and we should be celebrating that!

Stylish Setup, But Pastries Miss the Mark I really wanted to love Lannan Bakery, as I’ve heard many good things about it and had high expectations going in, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. First off, the wait (45 mins) was a bit longer than expected, which, in hindsight, only added to my anticipation. The decor and setup of the place were lovely - clean, modern, and inviting, but when it came to the pastries, I was left feeling a little let down. We ordered a selection to share, and I was particularly excited to try the almond croissant. Sadly, it was bland and almost tasteless, which was disappointing given the price. I’m happy to pay a premium for quality, but when the food doesn’t deliver, it’s hard to justify. Overall, I left feeling underwhelmed, especially given how much potential this bakery has. The decor is stylish, the display is very 'instragramable' but the pastries just didn’t do it for me this time. Maybe it was an off day, but I’m not sure I’ll be rushing back.

Used the new click and collect service. My order was ready waiting for me when I arrived. Swift smooth service. Perfect for those who live outwith Edinburgh like me. Not gonna lie. Felt like a VIP walking past the waiting queue with my big box of pastries. Minimum order was 6 but this gave me the chance to try a few new products and share some. All so delicious and well worth queueing for…although I didn’t have to. The click and collect service will allow me to order more frequently.
