At Lannan Bakery, the hype and the queue is very real - Review - Edinburgh - The Infatuation

"Edinburgh isn’t known for its dry weather and you should use that knowledge to your advantage when it comes to Lannan Bakery. Famous for both its extraordinary pastries and its sometimes security-guarded queue, this bakery in picturesque Stockbridge has become an international destination in itself." - Jake Missing

I didn’t realise the line for Lannan was that long, but I decided to wait and see what all the fuss was about; and I’m so glad I did! I ordered the cardamom sweet pastry and the vegetarian cheese focaccia, and both were absolutely delicious!!! The flavours were perfectly balanced, fresh, and clearly made with care. It was definitely on the pricier side, but completely worth it for the quality and experience. The only downside is… now I know it’s worth the hype, which means I’ll have to face that long line again next time! Totally recommend if you’re in Edinburgh and love amazing baked goods.

Instagram has really hyped this bakery, so the lines are pretty intense. I do not think any bakery is worth waiting an hour and a half. A friend went on a Saturday at 9 am and had to wait that long. The baked goods are yummy, but not that yummy, especially with a farmers market just around the corner offering plenty of great options on Saturdays. We visited on a Friday midday and only waited about 30 minutes. The highlights were the pain au chocolat and the yuzu meringue, both of which were excellent. The focaccia was also delicious. That said, I would not wait over an hour for it. They only had one person making drinks, which slowed things down since many people were ordering both baked goods and coffee. It looks like they are expanding, so hopefully the lines will not be so long in the future.

We visited this bakery and immediately noticed the long line out the door—a clear sign it’s worth the wait. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, taking the time to give us thoughtful recommendations despite how busy it was. We ended up choosing eight different pastries, each with its own unique flavor and personality. Every bite was absolutely delicious, showing both creativity and passion in the baking. Even in the midst of the hustle and bustle, the team stayed attentive and kind. A true gem for anyone who loves quality pastries and warm service.

Lannan bakery is worth the hype! We visited on a Friday morning around 10, did about 30 mins of queue but it went on smoothly and we were provided the menu and info about any items that were sold out already. Thankfully my beloved cardamom bun was still available and I can confirm it is just as good as the one I had at juno bakery in Copenhagen! Absolutely beautiful.

A Must-Visit for Pastry Lovers! I finally got the chance to try the renowned Lannan Bakery, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation! Given its popularity, we did have to queue for about 40 minutes, but the wait was made more pleasant by a friendly staff member who regularly came out to offer water to those in line — a thoughtful touch that really stood out. The aroma wafting from the open kitchen doors was heavenly and built up our anticipation with every minute. We ordered a latte, tea, croissants, and their famous cardamom buns, and every single item was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The cardamom bun, in particular, was the best I’ve ever had — perfectly spiced, soft, and utterly addictive. Do note: this is a takeaway-only bakery, so there’s no dine-in option. Also, for Muslim visitors, it’s worth knowing that some products contain alcohol or pork gelatin, so be sure to check with staff before ordering. All in all, Lannan Bakery is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates high-quality, freshly baked pastries. Absolutely worth the wait!

We have traveled to Edinburgh mainly to visit Lannan bakery, it was my dream for a long time. I must admit I had huuuge expectations. And I didn’t leave disappointed. The pastries are from another world and they deserve all the “hype” around them. As we all see on instagram to get your hands on these pastries it may require to queue a little bit, so I was ready for it and I don’t consider it a problem. After our first We happily waited next day again as we already knew it will be worth it and couldn’t resist trying more. All sweet and savoury pastries were full of flavour and incredibly light and airy. The taste of a plain croissant was just incredible. Sometimes you need to wait for what is good :)

Went on a Sunday and I queued at 8:35am (pictured). By 9am when it opened the queue made a turn around the corner. Water was served while we were waiting which was nice. I got into the shop by 9:15am and left at 9:20am. I could smell the pastries from queueing outside and it was tough to make a decision. All 4 items tasted heavenly, and I don't think there is a wrong choice whichever you choose. Looking forward to returning during my next visit to Edinburgh!

We listened to the recommendations and checked out this amazing bakery in Edinburgh! Bakery opens at 9 AM and we joined the queue around 9:45 AM. It was not as long as we had anticipated, only waited about 15/20 min and the queue did not go too far back! We went on a Thursday morning so I think on weekends you’d see the long queues everyone warns you about! I read online that some things get sold out by 10 AM sometimes but we were able to get everything we wanted excluding the yuzu pastry. The bakery was so cute and small but the service was great! Limited drinks menu and I think only one person making drinks but the latte we got was delish. Now, on to the best part.. the pastries!! We got the cream cheese cinnamon pastry, cardamom bun, medjool & butterscotch bun, triple chocolate croissant and chocolate croissant. Cream Cheese Cinnamon - 7/5 literally unreal and the best thing we had!!! Not overly sweet, the pastry was flaky and yum and the cream was light and had a yummy citrusy flavor as well. Unlike anything I’ve ever consumed. Date & Butterscotch- 5/5 amazing little bun, it was so beautiful and the sticky toffee type glaze was so yummy and not too sweet. This was also one of our faves because we have never had anything like it!! Triple Chocolate/Chocolate Croissant- 5/5 can’t go wrong with a chocolate croissant, especially TRIPLE chocolate. This was such a classic and was filled with melty chocolate inside, it was great but you have got to try the more unique things. We got these because we can never say no to a chocolate croissant. They were a perfect chocolate croissant, so flaky and delicious, not a need to try as you’ve probably tasted something like it before. Cardamom - 4/5 SO fragrant and tasty! This was a more bread-like texture which I wasn’t expecting but it was so good to enjoy with a latte. Just the right amount of sweetness and insane aroma and flavor! I think this is a popular one that people try. My only qualm was that it was not a flaky pastry and rather a bready one but that’s just personal preference! Definitely recommend it! Overall this place was so so worth the wait for us!! The pastries we tasted here were unique, delicious, and we did not feel like our teeth were rotting out of our heads after!! If you can withstand a long queue HIGHLY recommend trying! (P.S. The place is small and really can only accommodate 8 people inside so that’s definitely part of the reason there’s long queues outside. I’m sure if it were just a smidge bigger the queues wouldn’t be as bad so don’t let the long line stop you from something great!)
