L'Antiquaire Buffet

A very delicious and affordable cafe in town with excellent French onion soup and sandwiches. I was delighted to come visit this place while staying in the city and man it was great. The food selection is classic diner and cafe and the service was very excellent. The food is fresh. Tastes great and is made with care. Will come back again.

Busy Old Quebec breakfast spot There’s almost always a line outside, which shows how popular this place is. We came for breakfast — portions were hearty, and the food was comforting in a traditional Quebecois style. Drinks were limited (mainly coffee and juice). Staff was courteous but clearly very busy, so there wasn’t much time for small talk or personal touches. The floor was greasy and slippery, so be careful on rainy days. It’s a good stop if you’re nearby, but honestly not worth waiting more than 10 minutes in line. Try coming early in the morning before the rush for a smoother experience.

We walked by this restaurant just a few steps from our hotel and saw a huge line. At first we went walking to try and find something else but returned and got in line and it moved quite fast! The coffee was included with our meal and the dishes we ordered were fantastic. The breakfast poutine was so tasty and the crepes hit the spot. You must order the caramel and strawberry jam! Oh and when we saw one of the servers showing off the strawberry shortcake we had to order it….. Definitely recommend and don’t let the line deter you, it’s worth the wait!

Fantastic breakfast with great, friendly service! Yes you will probably have to wait in a short line but it will be worth it! I had the delicious Smoked Meat Benediction (Eggs Benedict), toast and homemade strawberry jam. Very, very good!

We had dinner here last night. It was perfect, exactly the diner food we wanted. The burger was fantastic and the poutine italienne.. To die for 😍😍. Service was super friendly and very prompt. Thank you for such a lovely memory of Quebec-City

we came 30 min before restaurant was about to close. by that time they run out of mash potatoes (cuz they served more than 600 people today) which they didn't tell us. they didn't even offer anything in replacement too. they just brought our plates and expected us not to ask. poutine had cheese curds cold and high meet pie was cold inside, as if their microwave didn't heat it up fully. food wasn't made fresh but rather reheated. not Quebec experience I thought it would be. I don't see myself personally returning back to that place again. it was great portions though, tasted good even semi-cold too, but we were hungry too after Hikes around Baie Saint Paul like Dome mountain and Le pioui Cynges.

Ordered Le Spécial Antiquaire for breakfast. Food was good, especially their house made strawberry jam, portions were perfect, and unlimited coffee refills. Service was friendly. It was really busy but the wait was reasonable. Decent prices. Overall, very good.

We tried this place on Civic Day, and as you probably know, Quebec doesn’t observe Civic Day like other provinces, so it becomes a popular spot for people to visit when everything else is closed. That’s probably why there was a long lineup of about 25 people in front of us. Even though they had some free tables outside, they didn’t have enough servers to cover them. But there was a really nice guy managing the line, talking to everyone and explaining the wait, which made the experience way better. Once we got seated, we were given a menu with lots of options, and what I really liked was that they had a little icon next to the dishes that were made with local Quebec ingredients. That made it easier to try the more authentic items. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were huge. Most meals came with fries and a lot of sides. You could also upgrade to include a soup and drink, and for just $1.55 more, you could add a dessert too. We ordered a pitcher of IPA for $23, and the regular pitchers were $20, which felt pretty fair. The only small issue was that they forgot our hot drink and dessert at first, even though we had upgraded for them. But they eventually brought them, and honestly, they were super busy, so it was understandable. The mushroom soup was tasty, even though the portion was small. The food overall was really delicious, the service was super friendly, and for what you pay, the whole experience was totally worth it.

This Canadian diner was recommended to us by our Walking Tour of Old Quebec guide, Luis, and we came back for both a breakfast and a dinner. Fantastic meat pie, great eggs benedict, good crepes, and for dessert, the pouding chomeur et creme glacee (pear crumble with ice cream) was amazing. Very friendly staff, fast service, but the place gets very busy during the noon rush. Ambiance is just a good local diner for locals, nothing fancy.

I came to the restaurant around midday on a weekend and the place had some extremely slow service; not even counting the long wait to get seated, it took around one hour for them to deliver our food after ordering... and turns out got our dishes completely wrong! Then, it took another 20 minutes to get the right order though they did apologize and give us a free dessert and drink as compensation. There's a lot of traditional Quebec dishes on the menu and the inside of the restaurant also has the same classic vibe, but the cooking execution was poor. The Quebec-style meat pie that I ordered was dry and bland -- almost reminiscent of a school lunch with the sad greens on the side. The dessert I ordered, Pouding Chômeur, is advertised as a traditional dessert with maple syrup and ice cream. In actuality, it was a mushy cake soaked in maple syrup and ice cream. You know the dessert is way too sweet, when the ice cream is the part that makes it less sweet! I don't recommend Le Buffet de l'Antiquaire even though it was recommended by several people to me because it was a major let down for me both service and food-wise.

This was the best place we ate while in Quebec! Their breakfast is fabulous - homemade bread for toast was great. The breakfast skillet potatoes were amazing. We ate here every morning. This is a must stop.

Wonderful neighborhood bistro we had breakfast in! There is always a line so be prepared to wait ! Delicious breakfast the crepes are light and fluffy with a tiny bit of sweetness! Very busy but quickly found seating. Service is quick and straightforward. L'assiette canadienne was nothing special but not bad.

The L'Assiette Brunch consisting of sunny-side up eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, toast, baked beans, strawberry jam, potatoes, and a half piece of meat pie was alright. The potatoes could be crispier and a bit more salt and pepper. However, it's not worth going again.

Oh my my, did we find a gem in the lower town of Quebec for breakfast. This diner style restaurant is frequented by locals & tourists. The food albeit large plates with large portions is outstanding. Just be careful what you order in relation to size. This is where I had my first ever Poutine. I chose the smaller portion with chips cheese curds & gravy... you can get many other additions. However I just wanted to try the Poutine in its simplicity. One thing to say... ideal hangover cure!!! A combination of flavors that I've never had before & I would definitely order again. The staff are amazing helpful & efficient. They have a ton of tables outside & tables at the open windows to look out onto the street. A great spot. Do not miss.

This is a very solid 4+ with the extra rounding to a 5 because of the standout food quality, options, service, location in comparison with the Old Quebec City touristy choices. Definitely worth the walk over. We sat down just after noon with no wait though may have timed it well with breakfast eaters leaving and lunch crowd not yet arrived. Very shortly afterwards, there was a line waiting though it seemed to move fast. We sat outside and were very comfortable. There is seating inside and upstairs. The open kitchen is very small, amazing all the food comes out of this one kitchen. The other guests seemed like a mix of locals and tourists. The service was great, fast and polite, our server was happy to help us with English. The other staff was more comfortable in French. They kept our waters filled. The menu is extensive, many breakfast and lunch options. We had crepes with maple syrup, poutine with meat, a breakfast platter with beans and meats and eggs and potatoes with homemade bread and strawberry jam, a club sandwich with homemade mayo and coleslaw. Other menu options included meat pie, eggs benedict, French toast. All was refreshing, lightly seasoned, not greasy. We left feeling like we had a homemade meal.

This place gets crowded for breakfasts, so be prepared to stand in line. The line, however, moves quickly. We came here around 10 or 11am on a weekend and had a 15-minute wait. Once seated, the staff is pretty attentive, and the food is served quickly. We ordered Eggs Benedict, one with smoked salmon and another with smoked meat, along with a mimosa. Eggs Benedict were good and came with house potatoes and a tiny portion of salad (aka 2 tomoto slices and lettuce). They also give you toast with a choice of strawberry or caramel jam. Do get the caramel jam, it is delicious.

This place makes the most delightful brunch. It is a treat for the senses and tastebuds. Think of high tea but brunch style. All the meats and cheese are locally sourced. Not your typical eggs and bacon place. The service Lovely and the interiors gorgeous!

This popular diner was around the corner from our hotel, so we ate breakfast here twice during our visit to Quebec City. First, I had a delicate sausage and cheese omelet, then tried the smoked meat (pastrami) Eggs Benedict. Both dishes were cooked and seasoned perfectly, and I enjoyed them. The homemade strawberry preserves elevated the generic white and whole wheat toast. The orange juice was from concentrate, but coffee was good with free refills. Prices here were very reasonable, and service was friendly. A busy place, but the line moves quickly. Recommended.

Really nice place & super friendly staff.. fully accommodating and suggestive ok dishes. The food was all over the top as you would expect. The dish's and reviews gave a great emphasis to what we would experience and it was to the tee. Would highly sign this cute morning diner style ambiance location. The food comes out quick and to your appetite. Recommend others to come! Best time is early in the morning, it's much less crowded at 7am. We greatly enjoyed our breakfast at Le Buffet de l'Antiquaire! It was quite busy but we were seated quickly and served promptly. The food was plentiful and delicious! The service was polite and speedy. Absolutely no complaints!

I had breakfast at L'Antiquaire Buffet a while ago. The service was fast and friendly. In terms of food, I tried their Les Crepes De L'Antiquaire Avec 1 Choix De Viande (Crepe with one meat - I chose Ham). The meal also came with a drink of choice and I chose orange juice. Everything tasted quite nice - Nice crepes with maple syrup, good slice of ham, fresh vegetables, and decent potatoes, so I'd give it 7.8/10

With a line waiting outside in the morning, you know it's good! French toast, bread, eggs & oh, the maple cream!! Delicious!

Tucked on aside street near the piers, Le Buffet de l'Antiquaire is a delightful location for casual faire. Not a tourist trap and a favorite with the locals. For a wonderful experience come here for breakfast or lunch. Sit outside or in. You never feel rushed. If there is a line... you know it is good. Très Bien

Poutine Cochon is the signature breakfast dish. Beyond evil, but so good. All varieties of breakfast meats mixed in with potatoes and mushrooms. Then the eggs... A thick covering of melted cheese on top of it all. Toast with home made strawberry jam. Worth the wait.

I ate here in 2017 and made a note to myself to come back next time I was in town. Once again it didn't disappoint! We very much enjoyed our food, the atmosphere and the service.

Was recommended by my hostel and decided to try for lunch. The vibe is absolutely top notch - it's very much a cute little urban diner, complete with a lunch counter directly facing the open kitchen. Staff were friendly and helpful. I got the regular poutine, which was absolutely delicious. From both a food and ambiance standpoint, highly recommend.

Found this place online and it was a few steps from the hotel. We were able to be seated quickly. The serve was good and the food was excellent. It was definitely worth every penny! Rude provincial drink waitress. Mocked how i pronounced merci. Of course seemed more polite to white family from Paris. Ordered l'assiette quebecoise for dinner. Worst meal of the trip. Meat pie flavorless. Mashed potatoes ok.beans really sweet if you like that. Vegetables as others have said were probably canned. Couldn't stomach finishing it. Waiter sarcastically asked if i was finished and if i was coming back tomorrow. I had to laugh at their small town provincial wannabe French attitude. Most 1 star reviews come from people of color and/or non french speakers. Many five star reviews come from people or bots with a short review history.

Cool old building. Upstairs seating is a little tight. Good service for a very busy breakfast spot. Food was great and plentiful. We ate there twice for a hearty breakfast and skipped lunch!

Super close to where we are staying and really cute place. It wasn't busy when we were there but I'm guessing that during high season it gets crazy. Friendly staff and very good food. Make sure you get the homemade toast with strawberry jam! We both ordered eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and it was very good!

The server was good and friendly, though we didn't see her often. The problem here is the food is mostly frozen or canned and then microwaved, and we noticed the cooks eating fries off of people plates, never washing hands, and generally not cooking well. The line up was long- I think it's a lot of people coming off the recommendations of travel guides who won't be back. Do not go here- there are plenty of good restaurants nearby that will be much better.

Really cute Québécois diner. My group really lucked out because the weather was terrible but this place was right around the corner from the loft we were staying in. This place was such a fun place, it was lively, the food was great but so was the service, the service was so amazing and attentive. For the meal, they will ask if you want white, brown, or homemade toast, we went with the homemade and it was amazing, so was their strawberry jam that came with the toast. The food: Smoked Meat Benedict- Omg the hollandaise had so much flavor, I thought it was made really well, I would say probably the most flavorful Hollandaise I ever had but it does come off really rich. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly with the nice runny yolk. The roasted potatoes had a lot of flavor and the smoked meat paired perfectly with the poached eggs and hollandaise. Excellent breakfast! On my last morning in Quebec, I found this gem. I was concerned when I arrived and there was a line outside to get in. The concern was not about the time to get a seat, but it was a cold morning in Late October and I had a light jacket. All worked out, as I was seated after about 5 minutes. Their breakfast menu was good and I decided an omelette would be best for a long day of travel back to the US and home. I ordered the mushroom and cheeses omelette and add ham. It was perfect! The coffee is good. Get the homemade bread option. It was light and very tasty! I will definitely be back when I am here to try more menu items. The place is cozy and very busy. Don't be in a rush and enjoy your second cup of coffee here. Cheers!

If there is a breakfast hall of fame this is getting in on the first ballot. So many choices and so few stomachs!! The menu has incredible variety with lots of unique choices. The dishes are super tasty but the homemade toast and jam are worthy of special mention as they were surprisingly delicious. It seems to be walk up and wait but if you time it right you can get a table on arrival. We got lucky with a table on a Saturday morning at 9:30. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is the definition of charming. I might be wrong but it seems to be a mix of diner meets French cafe. The prices are excellent for the quality and they keep your cup full of coffee! We'll be back and will be happy to wait in line if necessary.

Hugh portion! They even fill up the wine glass near the brim. We ordered the traditional Quebec dishes. And poutine, of course! We were not that hungry so the portion seems huge and dishes we ordered are on the heavy side. True comfort food and the mashed potatoes and gravy in the stewed pork reminded me of Thanksgiving. Coincidentally, the waiter joked that snow is coming. It is outside of the wall near the port, and a short stroll to the water after our meal round up our last night in Quebec. A very relaxing and affordable establishment to try the authentic local dishes.

There was a long line to be seated but it was definitely worth the wait. My husband and I both got Eggs Benedict. I had it with spinach and he got the sausage. The homemade toast with homemade strawberry jam was yum. We loved it!! So delicious! The service was excellent. Our waitress came to check on us several times and to refill our coffee. Wish we had gone back to eat again before we left Old Quebec.

When I go to Quebec City, I don't want Italian or Thai food... No, I'm here for the homegrown, authentic, hearty French Canadian food experience to satisfy my adventurous belly. Looking up a 2019 list of the "incontourables" of FC cuisine, Le Buffet de l'Antiquaire was among the recommended for it's quality and timelessness. Indeed, this resto has been around for over 40 years and still going strong! Count yourself lucky if you don't see a line outside in this first come first served establishment. We got there after 1pm on a Sunday and there was a 15 min wait to get in. If you go in the winter, make sure you wear insulated pants because being close to the river makes the cold especially biting! You can park for under $10 in the public parking across the street. We took a seat at the counter and the staff was warm and welcoming. Since the breakfasts looked pretty standard, I flipped to the main dishes and focused on those with the fleur-de-lis symbol that indicated typical Quebec dishes. I really enjoyed the #10 Pork Meatball Stew. The creamy mashed potatoes were a perfect side to absorb the rich gravy. The beets, pickled to perfection added some punch to the meal. If you thought one side of veggies was enough, well they gave you two! One salad and one cooked veggies topped with a pile of peas. It's a generous meal so if you aren't absolutely famished, you might want to skip the soup entree! I definitely recommend this dish. It was perfect!! The #11 House Specialty Pie had similar side dishes but I found the spices to be a bit strong and didn't suit my taste buds. It's a heaping portion of beef, veal, pork and potatoes stuffed in a pie crust. Because it's so rich, eating it with the pickled beets made it lighter tasting. If you're a milkshake fan, here's a place to indulge. They make their strawberry milkshake with homemade jam to give it that extra strawberry fragrance and flavor to delight every sip. After that filling meal, they asked if we wanted dessert and though I could barely breath (stomach too full) I said what the heck, bring on the pouding chomeur cause no Quebec experience is complete without the iconic dessert!! Sweet and sugary, topped with vanilla ice cream... You definitely ought to wash it down with a coffee! This is definitely a place to discover in Quebec. I liked everything about this fun experience!

3 years ago my mom and I stopped here for lunch, and then came back the next day for supper. 3 LONG years later we couldn't wait to come back and for good reason. It did NOT disappoint. We came for lunch both days we were in the city (they're only open for supper later in the week btw!) On the first day, we split a 2 egg Eggs Benny with bacon, homemade bread with caramel (JUST. DO. IT.) and their crepe battered bacon with maple syrup. Trust me, it is worth it. Like a maple bacon donut but 10x better. We topped everything off with Sugar Pie and washed it all down with a Mimosa and Cafe au lait. The second day, I got the Quebec shepherds pie, more maple bacon deliciousness, the Le Migneron (french toast topped with smoked meat, cheese, and egg - SO good), homemade toast with caramel, because we treat ourselves to the good things in life, and a club sandwich. Mimosas and coffee to wash it down, and another sugar pie. Of all of the amazing things this place has to offer, you HAVE to at least try their homemade bread and caramel, the crepe maple bacon (under déjeunée express), and the sugar pie. Until next time!

So good! A quaint little restaurant with delicious food and lovely ambiance. Prices were very reasonable given the location, the waitstaff was friendly and attentive and I always love a private bathroom. You have got to try the strawberry jam. It's homemade and so tasty. Love this place!

A nice little spot for lunch. The club sand which was one of the better ones I've had recently and fries and slaw were tasty too. Service was decent not quick as a bullet but not inadequate. We sat outside so didn't get the inner feel of the place but the outside ambiance was decent. They were doing construction near the restaurant which seems to be a theme in Quebec but otherwise a fun little spot.

Very homely place. Delicious food with big portions. I highly recommend you get the shepards pie, hamburger poutine, and chomeur for desert. The staff is very kind and the place is clean. Expect long waits however. Give this place a try.
