Lao Sze Chuan

Delicious classic Szechuan food. I’ve been looking for a dry chicken chili crisp dish in Cleveland that rivals the type I’ve had in Houston’s Chinatown, and this is it. The other dishes were delicious as well. The only thing I’d skip next time is the crispy prawn with lemon sauce—it was coated in a thick syrupy sauce that was more sweet/orangey than lemony. I would have liked a little more rice, but we made do. We ordered 5 dishes plus one entree for 5 hungry adults and it was a good amount of food. We didn’t have a reservation on a Monday night and were seated quickly. The menu was amazing, full of pictures and helpful symbols to show you what was popular. Only issue we had was the music was loud and it was hard to hear around the table.

Had a great experience! I came with a group of 20 but the food came out nearly immediately or at least I credibly quickly. The waiters were incredibly attentive and came by to ask us how our food was and to refill our waters many times. The food was delicious, it looked delicious, and the portions were very good. There is a good variety for everyone and there are vegetarian friendly options. The restaurant has a very luxurious atmosphere but their prices aren't even that steep. They have private rooms that can seat around 10-ish each and are good places for groups to be seated as they are enclosed. My group of twenty split into two rooms but the wall between them was opened so we could freely talk and walk between them too. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience with my friends and the waiters were very amiable.

Wow you MUST come for the weekend dumplings. We came around 12 on a Saturday and the place was empty. We received excellent service and the food came out quickly. We were there just for the dim sum and it did not disappoint! The dumplings and buns were reminiscent of those we’ve had in Hawaii. Very nicely executed and absolutely delicious. My favorite was the black phoenix bun, but be sure to order that for dessert as it’s sweet. We also loved the spicy pork and the shrimp. We received a free appetizer for ordering at least 4 dumplings so we went for the scallion pancake. I couldn’t stop raving about the food afterward. We’ll definitely be back for another round of dim sum soon! Very beautiful and fancy restaurant!

This was my first time dining here, and I truly enjoyed the experience! Our server, Bravion, was absolutely amazing. She made sure our large party was well taken care of from start to finish. Despite the size of our group, there were no delays in service, and everything flowed smoothly. When I return, I will definitely be asking for Bravion again. Outstanding service and a great experience overall!

I used to frequent this restaurant with my wife, and we enjoyed our visits each time. We felt confident enough to make a reservation a month in advance for our Valentine's Day dinner. Once we arrived, we were greeted by a rush that their staff was clearly having trouble accommodating. We were seated roughly 20 minutes after walking in and had to repeat ourselves multiple times: drink refills, timely service, and requests for chili oil all had to be made 4–5 times before being fulfilled. I drink diet soda, but our server Bravion P. often forgot and brought a regular instead, or simply carried a snobby attitude when corrected. After watching her with other patrons, it seemed she only carried this behavior with my table. It really put my wife and me off, especially after being told a dish we ordered 15 minutes prior was going to be another 30 minutes. This level of subpar, snobby service reflects a stuck-up attitude we didn't come to expect from this restaurant. Not sure if this is because of all the buzz lately, but the mains are not good enough to justify being treated like this. Cleveland's Asia Town is 25 minutes away and offers far better eats. We used to swear by this spot, but we'll be recommending and frequenting other places instead.

The Peking duck is very nice. Just the pancake wrap is a bit too “sticky”. But the duck itself is really good. The dishes are relatively authentic. Service is excellent. Waiters are very helpful and nice. It is not the American style of service - just asking ‘everything ok?’ Instead, they observed quietly to see what the customers need. The atmosphere is nice too.

I asked why there was no winter melon in the winter melon soup, and they said it was made with winter melon juice. (That's not how authentic Chinese food is made!) The worst part was the fish! Over $40, it was incredibly fishy. It was inedible. While it looked like Chinese fish, But it tasted very fishy. I've never had such terrible fish!

Bravion was our server and made our dinner truly one of the best we have had. She was able to answer every question we had about the menu and make suggestions. Her friendliness and attentiveness made for a great evening out. We also both loved the food she recommended. We definitely will be back!

It was nice of them to have dim sum till 3:30, but these prices, sheesh. The food's good, but it's not something I'm willing pay that price for, I ordered half a duck, way too expensive, it was good, the waiter was great and so was the kitchen staff. It's a really nice restaurant inside, I was here for a Yelp event last year, that was worth the visit, this is my family trip back. I do think this place is good for Chinese food, it is an upscale Chinese Restuarnt, but I'm just not seeing what you're paying for, service and ambiance, I can say the sauces for everything were above par, my last comment is the restrooms, they were not nice, soap dispensers didn't work they had a bottle of hand soap, like I'm sorry the price you pay for diner should reflect in every aspect of your restaurant, and the food is good, service is better, ambiance is just okay, like it's nice but the bathrooms could use some help.

Had an amazing dinner here with some friends! We ordered a bunch of stuff off the menu. The stand outs were the Peking duck, coriander chili beef, and the string beans. The interior is very nice and well decorated. Service was prompt.

I attended a Yelp Elite event at Lao Sze Chuan a few months ago and finally returned for a full meal--and it did not disappoint! We celebrated my best friend's 30th with a group of 20 and rented out two private rooms. The experience was amazing from start to finish. Our server, Said, and his team were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The Lazy Susans on the tables made sharing super fun--we tried so many delicious dishes! Highlights included the Szechuan spicy wontons, soup dumplings (a crowd favorite), spicy cucumber salad, Mongolian beef, pork belly, shrimp fried rice, and General Tso's chicken. Everyone enjoyed their cocktails, the vibe was great, and the food was packed with flavor. This is a solid spot for dinner with friends, lunch with coworkers, or hosting a celebration. They even have karaoke--definitely on our list for next time. Thanks for the amazing evening!

Ventured out to Lao Szechuan on a snowy afternoon and was met with such delicious food! I ordered the Dan Dan noodles that were delicious. The Szechuan peppercorns were very evident in this dish, and as much as I love the kick drinking water after is a weird feeling! My favorite was the 3-Cup chicken dish. Like wow was this probably my new favorite chicken dish! Sauce was light but the chicken was still nice and crunchy. The added basil made the dish fragrant, I was so good! Service was very friendly and the interior of the restaurant was so pretty!

Scheduled a dinner with my family to celebrate the new year. There were 8 of us. Grayson was our server and he did an amazing job. He was attentive and helpful. He explained the dishes and answered all our questions. We had a room with a large round table and lazy Susan that was very helpful for sharing. The cocktails ordered were the red dragon margarita, Tori old fashion, Lao Lychee, Pomegranate spritz, Plum Blossom, Sze Highball, and a pear martini. Everyone enjoyed their cocktails very much. The bartender made them look very fancy. For appetizers, we shared spring rolls, wontons with chili, Xiao long bao(soup dumplings), crabmeat and Fish belly soup, (shared), hot and sour soup, wonton soup. For dinner, we shared vegetable fried rice, Szechuan green beans, shredded duck lettuce wraps, sliced beef tenderloin in golden soup, sautéed chicken with garlic sauce, chefs special dry chicken, shishito pepper prime rib beef with peppercorns and a szechuan style peppercorn bass. (Note very large, full fish in skin). Collectively, everyone loved the meal and experience! The dry chili chicken was crispy and great heat! Some said the bass was the best, a few said the sliced beef tenderloin soup was the best. I mentioned to Fanny that I brought everyone after the great elite event on November 19. She appreciated me letting her know. We will definitely be back and highly recommend coming with a group!! Look forward to coming back for future celebrations, or just a great meal !

After securing a reservation on OpenTable, I dined with a group of friends on a rainy Friday evening before going to see a movie at the Silverspot theater next door. The restaurant is bright and spacious with a section near the front with larger tables and booths for groups; this area can also be reserved for events, along with the more private rooms along the back of the restaurant. The main dining section in the middle takes up a majority of the space and has plenty of tables for smaller groups and pairs. They also have a small but full bar at the side of the main dining space. Overall, I liked the decor and aesthetic! We got a round of drinks, including the Whiskey Highball, Lychee martini, Golden Gate, and espresso martini. All the drinks were presented very well, but we did notice that the cocktails were very sweet - a bit too sweet for my liking. So I think next time, I'll go with a beer/wine/sake option. To eat, we ordered several items to share including a half order of the Peking Duck, cucumber salad, soup dumplings, string beans, eggplant, Tony's chicken, and prawns with crispy pepper. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes, and my personal favorites were the prawns, Tony's chicken, and the string beans. The eggplant was cooked perfectly, but I thought there was just a little bit too much sauce drowning out the eggplant. Though, I will say all the dishes we got were a hit with the group. The dishes were all very flavorful and steaming hot on arrival. The prawns were large with lots of meat and had a lot of texture from the crispy pepper and crunchy peanuts -- this was particularly memorable. Our server Jonathan took great care of our group throughout the night and was attentive, funny, and friendly. He provided useful information about the menu items, which helped guide us in making our choices! Overall, we had a great evening at Lao Sze Chuan. It's a nice option in Pinecrest, especially for group outings! We look forward to returning for their Thursday specials with half off wine bottles and their weekend dim sum service!

We just had a great experience and will be back. Our waiter Josh was extremely helpful and selected some unique and great dishes for us. He was informative and showed us how to eat the various dishes. The food was great and so was the service. I will be back.

We visited on a Friday night and were able to be seated right away. Service was very good and our servers were friendly. There are a lot of food options as well as gluten free options. The spice level is pretty high if you're sensitive to spice, especially for the double cooked pork. The food was all pretty decent flavor-wise. The environment is modern and a little fancy- food presentation was very nice- would be nice for gatherings and celebrations.

Tao Sze Chuan feels like two restaurants fighting for control -- one Szechuan, one airport food court. A few dishes flirt with real flavor; others taste bland and confused. The restaurant itself is pleasant in that upscale shopping mall kind of way. But the lighting? Imagine getting a cavity filled while eating kung pao chicken. It was that bright. I didn't know whether I was about to be interrogated or being induced into an epileptic seizure. Service was passable but details like not bringing soup bowls for soup and having to ask for them --a bit annoying.

The food and ambiance are top notch and the Bartender Andre was amazing. I recommend this restaurant to any and everyone

We moved to CLE from Chicago and this was the best Chinese food we found here in CLE. Was definitely on par with the one back home and is our go to place here. Love the fried rice and chicken and the fish is one of our faves. The servers are always quick and attentive and the restaurant itself has a great interior.

Cool spot in Pinecrest with decent flavore but way overpriced! Tony's chicken is plentiful, lil crispy pieces of well seasoned chicken. I split it and we still had a few leftovers. Potstickers were great (I'm a pot sticker snob) but served room temperature...not cool for me. Cocktails are extremely overpriced, this is Cleveland y'all. Jake, the bartender knows his craft so you will have a well made cocktail with something special in it, but your pocket will be unhappy. Happy hour is the best way to experience Lao...M-Thurs only.. my rating is due to pricing. I will pay for most anything once, but I'm no fool.

The food at this place is so on point and delicious, the great service and quality of the food is the same every time we go. We enjoyed every appetizer and entree you will see below. (The portions are sharable sizes just an fyi) Our favorite must haves every time we go is the sweet and sour short rib and shrimp fries rice. The ambiance is very clean, elegant and comfy. I definitely recommend trying this restaurant either for date night, any special occasion or on a regular Monday I promise it will be worth it!

I've been to this Lao Sze Chuan twice now, once for brunch and once for dinner: Brunch-we got their dim sum menu obviously, including their soup dumplings which were actually quite flavorful. Dinner-we got the classic Sze Chuan fish in chili oil stew, in addition to their Yu Xiang eggplant and their cold chicken. The fish and chicken were very good, but egg plant could have used less sugar and a little bit more spice. Overall a very solid, clean spot. The service is a little spotty, it seems that at least during dinner they appeared slightly understaffed. 3.8/5

Came back to Lao Sze Chuan for a family-style dinner and had a much better experience than their dim sum! This was a great choice for a big party because we were able to try several dishes, including the Peking duck which was a special treat. My favorite dishes were the eggplant with garlic sauce and mapo tofu. The menu is quite diverse with many options from authentic to Chinese-American cuisine. Most of the dishes we tried were authentic and tasty. I do still think some of the menu items are overpriced ($15 for a pot of tea is preposterous in Chinese cuisine!), so beware. Our table was located next to their karaoke room which was not fully soundproof, and I will say the soundtrack of other people's bad singing did dampen my dining experience, especially one that is trying to be upscale.

Service and ambiance are great , however I am not too impressed with their food as it is not that authentic Chinese taste. Nice place! A little big pricey.

This place was super over priced and bland at best. You can get better service and better tasting food at half the cost elsewhere. There were 5 of us. We ordered 4 different entrees, each one was worse than the next. We ordered veggie dumplings that tasted like a mush-of-nothing and spicy cucumber appetizer and that was the most basic but semi-tasty thing on the menu. We ordered two diet cokes, that came when the check came - even though we asked people walking by if we could have them. We ordered GF chicken fried rice, which was below average taste. Garlic chicken which was bland, chewy, and had ZERO garlic flavor. Sesame chicken which was so breaded that there seemed to be no chicken inside of it and had a taste of pure sweetness rather than complex flavor. The beef dish was spicy Mongolian beef, which has no spice. was so chewy I wouldn't have given it to a dog, and it has slivers of veggies in it that were so overcooked they were disintegrating. The waitress never came over to check on us. When we were ready for the check and she asked us about our experience, and we told her, the manager came over. She thought she was doing us a favor by removing the dumplings from the check. What a complete and total discontent from the service to the food. Avoid this place.

Pleasantly surprised by the food here. Pretty generous portion for the items and my personal favorite is their Three cup Chicken with Basil. Our server was friendly but service overall was subpar. They took a long time to take our orders and serve them. Overall ambiance is great and clean.

Lao is new to Cleveland and Ohio - so welcome to the rest of the Chinatown culinary world MidWest! Lao is known in my hometown of Chicago and around the states as a great place to get Peking Duck. So much so that there are Peking Duck Groupons in the area but this is a first for Ohio and Cleveland. This location took over a large and open patio bar building for the largest Lao Sze I have ever seen with a full bar, open concept dining room seating and several private rooms for celebrations including karaoke! It is like they brought a main city Chinatown feel to the area and I am here for it. Glad to get in before the New year rush, our waiter was great and answered all of my questions before we ordered. It was good to get in before the rush around 4-5pm though it is the downtime for the staff too. The food was soooo good as well and no we did not finish all of it. Our whole fish, noodles, and duck fried rice entrees lasted four days later and were well worth the price. The fish was about $30, the noodles $12, and the fried rice special was $24. Next time we are in Cleveland, I will think about going here for a family dinner and introducing his family to how we do it in Chicago Chinatown!

So so good! Get the TONYs chicken! You won't regret it! My server was so sweet and nice and she remembered everything we asked for. There is plenty of parking and the place is beautiful inside! Love the huge chandelier over the bar and the place was nice and clean. 10/10 Will def be going back!

Visited a second time, just as good as the first. We ventured out of our comfort zone and tried the San Dan noodles. They are a very unique flavor with peppercorn spice which has a numbing effect (very interesting). Not my favorite dish but still good and traditional!

Food was excellent. Server- Bravion was terrific- knowledgeable, friendly and funny. Restaurant manager frequently stopped by almost every table to make certain that everything was satisfactory

Love this restaurant! Such a beautiful job with the decor! It took some time to get waters and a waitress. Went on a Monday night dinner so not too busy. The tonys 3 pepper chicken is sooo good! It has the perfect amount of spice, crunch and oil. We also got the Mongolian beef. It was really good as well but Next time I would just ask for the beef to be cooked longer. It was a little chewy. We got chili oil on the side which was a good choice. We wanted to try the crab dumplings but they had pork in them. I'm so glad the waitress mentioned that as we were about to order them. Highly recommend!

We had a reservation for our wedding anniversary. We were seated in the worst spot. High traffic area. When we were asked to moved to a nicer area, it wasn't responsive at all. The hostess is clueless. Service is sub par. Food is okay. The soup dumpling skin is thick and chewy. Flavor of food is very bland. I had high expectations for this restaurant but not returning again after this horrible experience. I get better service and food at downtown than this.

New Chinese restaurant in the Cleveland! This is one of the branches that have now expanded to Cleveland. The first location of this restaurant was in Chicago Chinatown. This restaurant specializes in Sichuan cuisine and Peking duck. The restaurant is located in Pinecrest, an outdoor mall. The restaurant is probably a little fancier than the typical Chinese restaurants in Cleveland but it is definitely a great addition to the Asian restaurant scene in Cleveland. Especially, coming from Boston and New York City, I am so glad to now have this option! I tried their dim sum, which is offered Friday to Sunday at 11am to 3:30pm. I made a reservation ahead of time but it definitely wasn't too busy that if you want to come here spontaneously, there should be no wait. There is a decent selection of dim sum. Every dish is really fresh and of good quality. It is definitely the best dim sum in town! The shrimp dumplings are super flavorful with the thin wrapper. It was steamed to perfection. I also ordered the soup dumplings from the main menu because I wanted the classing xiao lung bao (soup dumplings) XLB. The XLB is also really delicious. It is one of the better ones I have tried! Finally, we have a good XLB place in town! LJ Shanghai cannot compare! The Peking duck is a must try. The presentation of this dish is next level. I also appreciate that the Peking duck wrappers are the thin flour wrappers, which is the authentic way to eat Peking duck rather than bao buns. This dish overall was pretty good. However, I wish the duck was little bit more flavorful and crispy. Otherwise the condiments and sauces are on point. I will definitely come back for their dinner option!

When it comes to the food - everything was really great. Not pictured - cucumber salad and fried pork dumplings also amazing. Delicious flavors and very generous portions. The service is the part that was hard for us. We had a very nice server but we had 6 people and every time we ordered anything - drinks, appetizer or entrees there were always 2 people who didn't get what they ordered until we were onto the next course. Made it awkward for all of us as we tried to wait and share and be polite but at some point we just had to start drinking or eating. Finally drinks came and finally entrees came but it nearly ruined our experience. We had to ask about the status of each of these - it would be one thing if we're told up front about them straggling behind but that wasn't the case. I was really disappointed about this. We had 6 people not 16... it can't be that hard to get things to come out at once. I'd come back because the food was really delicious but I couldn't give them more than 3 stars because of this.

Attentive servers, beautiful patio, good drinks & food. Coming from NY, I always crave good Chinese food. This place hits the spot whenever I'm craving the spicy and sour fish, Dan Dan mian, and roast duck. When the weather is nice, do request patio seating. Super comfortable seats - even better experience with one their cocktail or Asian beer. You can't go wrong with a bottle of Tsingtao and some spicy dishes here. This place is a hidden gem outside of downtown Cleveland and is worth the drive to satisfy your Asian cravings. Make sure to try their duck; the chef gets it fresh from Long Island, NY before roasting in house. And end your lovely meal with a special pumpkin Mochi filled with salted egg yolk and steamed lotus root with osmanthus syrup.

In my experience, this establishment appears to be poorly managed, and in my opinion, it is operated by individuals who lack a fundamental understanding of running a restaurant. I placed a takeout order two hours in advance and confirmed a pickup time over the phone. When I arrived at the scheduled time, the hostess said she would check on my order. After waiting for about 20 minutes, a man took over at the host stand. I explained the situation to him, and he curtly informed me that the restaurant was overwhelmed with orders and I'd have to wait, despite my advanced call. Less than a minute later, my food was brought to the host stand, and the man--who turned out to be the manager--handed it to me. The receipt was stapled to the bag, indicating they had charged my card. Over the following weeks, while I was in the middle of moving, renovating, and dealing with the holiday season, I began receiving calls from the restaurant. The manager and owners repeatedly contacted me to tell me I hadn't paid. I explained each time that I was moving and would check my statement when I could. Once my move was complete, I reviewed my card statement and confirmed that the charge had not gone through. I called back and paid the amount owed. The manager thanked me for my "integrity" but offered no apology for the repeated calls despite my prior explanations. As a thank you for calling and paying, they gave me a gift card worth about 9% of my meal's total value. While I accepted it, I doubt I'll use it, as I don't plan to return. To recap: they mishandled the timeliness of my pickup order, failed to process my payment, badgered me with calls despite my situation, and offered a token gift card as an apology. Meanwhile, RED Steakhouse across the street is a fantastic restaurant I frequent that offers a vastly superior experience in every way. I see no reason to come back.

Very interesting joint. Upscale Asian fare. Kinda like PF Changs, only better. The three that were with me all ordered traditional Chinese dishes and all were very, very good. In particular, my wife had the lemon crispy shrimp which were delicious. I went off the reservation and tried something new, the Extremely Spicy Szechuan Boiled Fish Fillet. I didn't want the fish looking at me, as they do have a whole sea bass, too, but this was delicious, and could have fed the whole table for $28. Now typically when I get something out that is 'spicy', it's a joke of a spice. Not this sonofabitch! It was delicious and had a great spicy flavor. If you bit into one for the floating red peppers, it's lights out! I must have had 3 or 4 pieces and was done. The waiter laughed and said yeah, he should have told me they were really hot. Regarding the service, our server was very friendly and attentive at first. Took our order quickly and brought the drinks. Took a bit longer than it should have to get the food, and even longer to get the check. It's not that the kid was lazy, he just wasn't really paying attention to who needed help and was bopping around from table to table with no agenda. Clean that up and this place gets 5

First Ohio branch of a popular upscale Chinese restaurant based in Chicago. Definitely recommend reservations, as there has been a significant wait (even for two people!) on weekends. Outdoor seating not yet open, but the verdant patio is definitely a vibe. A great place for special occasions, but the price point is above what I'd be willing to pay for takeout (now available). Parking is free in the various Pinecrest parking areas, subject to availability on weekends when events are occurring in the shopping district. The decor is a sleek blend of modern design with traditional Chinese accents, with every piece shipped from China. Despite being relatively new, everything was operating very smoothly even during our visit on week two of opening. The staff is about half Chinese-fluent and half non-Chinese, with a similar clientele. Making for a very fun people-watching experience. The ambiance is definitely on the swankier side of Chinese dining, with hefty chopsticks, charger plates, and napkin rings - incorporating a little bit of Western design. The decor even extends to the bathrooms, located behind an opaque glass wall. Soothing earthy colors, solid wooden doors, and no-touch wave-to-flush toilets are thus far still in pristine condition. The only two things that seemed out of place were the music (a blend of pop and light EDM) and the paper tablecloths (layered to make it easy to rip away for the next customers). Although, to be honest the paper table covering is a classic Chinese restaurant quirk. For large parties, there are several private rooms available to reserve. Our waiter was super attentive, giving us recommendations and some time to look over the (hefty Chinese-English) menu, and suggesting that we place an order for the Peking duck first if we planned to order it since it takes a while to prepare. They don't have many liquors, but several beer and wine options and soft drinks are up for grabs. Presentation of dishes is intricate, particularly the Peking Duck. The Chef's Special Duck Soup was comforting and light, and Wonton Soup loaded with two fat, juicy wontons. We very much enjoyed the Chef's Special Dry Chili Chicken and Half Set of the Peking Duck. The duck is cooked to tender perfection and served with a traditional set of plum sauce, rice wrappers, and cucumbers, with a side of fried duck skin with brown sugar. If you've never had roast duck before and like fattier meats, this is certainly a showstopper piece for the table. I was also pleasantly surprised by the Crab Soup Dumplings, a different spin on the traditional pork filling, which were perfectly soup-y and had a generous proportion of filing to wrapper. Though I found the Chengdu Mapo Tofu too salty for my taste, this was the SO's favorite, and this will definitely raise the heat.

This is prob my new fave spot in Cle!! Make sure you make a reso by calling in! When you enter, make sure to check in up front. The food is amazing. Taste like a home cooked meal. The atmosphere is great. They designed this place with a lot of attention to details. Tables have plates set up with napkin rings. Food is set up family style. Big portions and affordable pricing. Most of the items are spicy but not bad at all! Even my partner at a lot and he usually can't handle the spice. We ordered the roast duck, chicken, beef stew, Mapp tofu, and much more! We have tons of left overs too. Love it! The staff was super friendly and attentive. Came to check in pretty often and answer a lot of people's questions. The place has an amazing patio! Plan on using that next time. Or a reserved room. The place was popping when we visited, someone was singing karaoke. Overall had a great exp here. Can't wait to be back! Already craving food from here.

Delicious!!! On the pricier end of Chinese food but you can't beat the fresh ingredients, delicious dishes, and beautiful design of the restaurant, plus the friendly service. It has a modern and upscale twist to your traditional Chinese food - which I personally appreciated. A great option for a special occasion or a casual dinner with family. Accommodates to both occasions. I saw business meetings with a few cocktails, a party of young women celebrating a birthday, and a families out for dinner. Definitely try some of their spicier dishes if you're up for it! The tang and spice is authentic! Did I mention the interior? I couldn't get past how the bamboo shoots silhouette made a natural background against the shades. I'm sure they did it on purpose but it was small design details like that I normally do not see in Cleveland restaurants that made me appreciate the experience even more. They definitely thought about the layout while designing the place! - Not a necessity for eating, but a necessity for dining experience!

I've been to several Lao Sze Chuan's in Chicago area over the years and enjoyed every single one of them. We happened to be in Cleveland last weekend and decided to try this place to celebrate my wife's birthday. Made online reservations and indicated we are celebrating a birthday and asked that we be seated in a quiet spot. When we arrived, we were seated in between TWO busing stations where we heard all the clanking, in STEREO, all night. No mention about birthday celebration by any staff all evening. We ordered half Peking Duck ($48?) , and two other courses. For some odd reason, the Peking Duck course came last. I've had Peking Duck hundreds of times and my experience is it is ALWAYS SERVED FIRST, including at the 4 Lao Szechuan Chicagoland locations. Worse yet, the duck was so BLAND, it was easily the worst duck in the last 40 years !. I thought I was just eating greasy cardboard. Peking Duck presentation was beautiful though... The other two dishes were actually up to par and quite flavorful and authentic. I was so disappointed with this experience. Told the owner about it and she did absolutely nothing to try to correct it.. Again, not even a HAPPY BDAY greeting to my wife. Bottom line, come here for the gorgeous interior and trappings but go somewhere else in Cleveland such as Dagu Rice Noodle , Siam Cafe, Wonton Gourmet for much better service and food (but not much trappings) for a more enjoyable experience. Go where the local Chinese / Asian community goes.... and it is NOT Lao Szechuan Cleveland.

I'm in the area for work for a few days and decided to give this place a try. It definitely exceeded my expectations!! I was on the way to go hiking, so I did feel like I was slightly underdressed to be there. The ambiance is great, I chose to sit outside because the weather was so nice. The food and service were fantastic!!! I had the veggie dumplings and the Three Cup Chicken with Basil. Both were outstanding! Jonathan was my server and recommended both dishes. He asked if I had any food limitations and what kind of food I liked. He did an excellent job and was extremely knowledgeable of the menu. A gentleman that I assume is the manager also came around to see how my meal was and we chatted for a moment. Everyone was super nice and friendly. Thank you guys for such a great experience!

Very disappointing lunch. There was no lunch menu, and the service was extremely poor. The table was so uneven that we could not eat in. It wanted to change tables in the empty restaurant. We got some attitude. The food with fear at best the wonton soup would very tasteless but the hot and sour soup was better Would not recommend very overpriced and not worth it.

The ambiance was giving a very relaxing and comfortable vibe. A very upscale Chinese restaurant and great for date nights. I really enjoyed their drinks. Menu was very nice. Service was great as well!!!

Lao Sze Chuan is a chain from Chicago - think fancy Szechuan food. The decor and ambiance reminds me of the more modern restaurants in China. We have been for both dinner and dim sum - dinner is more Szechuan based food. The dim sum is arguably best in town (though selection is slightly less than others)! Come check it out - you won't regret it!

Apps were just warm. Meals were hot and very good. Three cup chicken had TONS of garlic cloves cut in half...maybe a little much. Service was a bit choppy.

I wish we could choose more than 5 stars because this place deserves it. It was a busy Saturday night but there were seats at the bar and the night could not have been more perfect than sitting there. The bartenders were more than incredible and attentive, they were friendly, entertaining and more. We were going to only have appetizers but then enjoyed ourselves so much we ordered more and my husband was trying all of the drinks. We ordered the crab soup dumplings and chili oil wontons, both had perfect flavor. My husband had the japanese old fashioned, which he said was good. Our next course we had the crab rangoons and more soup dumplings ( even though we had ordered the fried pork dumplings), They were full of flavor and fresh homemade taste. The bartender made a drink by mistake and offered to me, it was my first aperol spritz, not bad but don't think I would have tried it on my own. The other bartender offered to make my husband a drink that was not on menu but he thought he would enjoy and he did. We aren't sure what was in it but he had some fizz and sweet taste to it. We also ordered the chicken fried flat noodles they were good with some of the chili oil sauce. I will absolutely be back and come hungry because the options are overwhelming and all the food looked fabulous.

Food was AMAZING! 10/10! Service was great. Said the server recommended the lo mein noodles and they were great. Also tried the crab Rangoon it was really good. General Tso chicken was good as well! Highly recommend here! The atmosphere is wonderful!

Returned for a casual dinner and food came out quickly (it was 4pm on a Saturday). The food flavor is very authentic and scrumptious. I don't love the price as you can get the same dish just as good in Asiatown; however being there aren't that many Chinese food options in the east side, this is a good alternative.

The food was delicious and we received great recommendations from our wonderful waitress. We cannot wait to come back!

2nd time here and my opinion about this restaurant has not changed. It's a large place and it's stunning. But behind the facade, it's still regular (albeit a lot more expensive) Chinese food. We had a large party amlnd we all shared, but there was absolutely nothing memorable. The only truly memorable thing was, and not in a good way, is their rice ball dessert - absolutely skip that. I really can't comment on service. Our server tried hard, but we had 2 large tables, and I think 1 server for such a large party was not enough. But the server did seem to try hard.

We went on Chinese New Year to have their special set menu. Food was excellent!!! All of us were completely stuffed!!! We did definitely enjoy our meal for sure. I gave 5 stars for food. However, zero star for their reservation system and management. We have been to this restaurant multiple times and always enjoyed all dishes. Our waiter did her best but clearly a number of waiters were not enough! We booked our table in advance but when we showed up, there was no available table to fit all of us. Initially, the manager told us to sit separately with a walkway in the middle!!! How could we share family meal? After a period of negotiation, we were able to put two round tables together. Their reservation system was clearly not working. We will be back for sure but please improve your system. This certainly can be better.
