Lovely winter hike. Since the trails are snow covered it paid to have an app like all trails to confirm the trampled paths were indeed the real paths. As we are unfamiliar with the terrain it helped knowing we weren't getting over extended (especially with a 7yo along). Path markers were clear but not as good as a map of course. No traffic in the inter. We only saw one other group on our two hour hike. Easy but limited parking (enough for about 5-6 cars). The park roads are well maintained. I don't recommend not having snow tires but you could have easily gone without. There's a small neighborhood near the trails which have a cutthrough we used. The river views are fantastic. Our dog had a great time.

Beautiful place to be in the fall and in the winter great little hike in. Midsummer, there can be quite a bit of mosquitoes, so bring bug spray. It's a camping area. There's no hotel, no guest services. You have what you bring with you. The campsites are great The people around that I have met are very friendly. Great for the kids to burn energy. The fishing can be great also.

This is our neighborhood playground! We enjoy the day use areas all over the park, from the fall river to the big Deschutes, this park has it all! Summer is super busy, but this time of year, all of us local people have a fantastic playground.

Recently, we spent 3 nights here. Sights were far enough apart, but not much vegetation to provide privacy. Awesome campground host. Great area to discover. Close enough to Bend and Sunriver for exploring. Lots of great trails to walk on. We will definitely return.

We stayed two nights at La Pine state park the end of September. We were in the South Loop site #24. We have a 42 foot 5th wheel. The site offered plenty of space and easily to pull into. However the pull through to leave will not work for someone as big as us. The tree placement and bend in the road make it impossible to drive out. It was super simple to back out of the site though. The park is very nicely kept nice paved roads with each spot being paved also. It did seem that someone swept away all the pine needles from our site leaving us with a very dusty spot. The dirt was super fine and soft, our kids and dogs loved it. There is a common grassy area in the middle of the loop with the bathhouse there also. I did not use it but did look in. It looked nice and clean. The nearly Deschutes River is beautiful and totally silent. There are trails all throughout the park, perfect for little kids to run around on or ride bikes. Super easy trails, however very dusty. If you don’t want dirt on everything maybe not the place. Close enough for a day trip to Crater Lake and the nearby town of Sunriver is really nice with places to eat and a cute shopping center vibe. We enjoyed our time at La Pine State Park.

Google
We absolutely LOVED this park…BUT!! The website said the campground was full…called the number and the girl on the phone said the campground was full, but there were some first come first serve. We drove to the campground and there was a sign in the road that said campground full, but we drove in anyway trying to get a first come first serve. Got to the campground and you have to scan a QR code and there were a LOT of empty sites! Luckily I was patient and finally figured the website out and got us a spot!

Beautiful, clean, and quiet. We happened to be there when it was hot - 98°-102° and stayed in a cabin. Yes, the cabins get hot during the day, but the nights are cool so you can sleep. We found that keeping the windows open but the curtains drawn during the day helped, and we slept with the windows open. The ceiling fan helps, but I recommend you take individual fans to place by your bed at night if you are visiting in the summer. It was about 70° at 11pm, but by 3am it had cooled to 55°. The cabins are spacious with big bathrooms. I need ADA accommodations and can say the paths out front are difficult. I'm not in a wheelchair and had to be very careful when walking from the picnic table to the ramp. Once on the ramp, everything was great. I did speak with a nice park ranger who works on ADA safety and suggested some changes and he listened to all my issues. We loved that the park is way off any hwy or big road. It's super quiet with no truck or traffic noise. All of the visitors were there for one sport or another - kayak, canoe, paddle board, fishing, biking - the park cleared out early with folks back by dinner. We loved our stay. Can't wait to visit again.

My dog Leela and I had the best trip here in chilly weather. Our cabin and fire pit kept us toasty. Lots of river walks to be had here.

Yelp
A very nice and clean campground about 39 minutes from Bend, Oregon along the DeSchutes river. Full hookups, showers and even ice for sale.

Zach S.

Yelp
Nice trails, views of the river, and less smoky than Bend is during fire season so if you are at 150-250 aqi in Bend it could be 100 down south so check it out it's a enjoyable area.

Allie S.

Yelp
This was such a great spot! I will be coming back here. There are tons of trails within walking distance of the campsite (we stayed in an rv site) there is also a dog park that we had to ourselves which I always enjoy. My only complaint is I didn't book more days to explore this area more.

Dawn F.

Yelp
Gorgeous park with the state's oldest ponderosa pine. Hikes are easy and the views are breathtaking.

Greg S.

Yelp
Nice Park. Some spots are tight for larger RVs. Good location for Cascade Lakes. Deschutes River is nearby.

Yelp
Have a river of fun and sun camping, fishing, sunbathing, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding - or floating leisurely down the river on a tube or paddle boarding! La Pine State Park is so delightfully refreshing cool cool cool fun in the sun. The Deschutes river current flows patiently along turn by by horseshoe bend after horseshoe bend on its way up to Bend about 20 miles away. A fascinating place to play. It's all about the river! Peaceful as the River Flows through this campground and state park alone peaceful as the river flows in the warm sun with a cool breeze I hear only birds singing watching as the river runs with a soothing cadence not another single solitary sound I see swirling pools of water on the river edges while the current cuts an insistent path rippling along around the many many horseshoe bends continuously curving through La Pine so surreal so still so strong tall green grasses are swaying back and forth on the river banks along with tall pine trees swaying with the wind and for every twist and turn on the river why not my mind and soul flow as easy like that river give me that peace of a river while watching on the river bank and many - some fit or fat the young and old, all in between float the river for relaxation and recreation drifting on the rivers steady current with tubes, kayaks and paddle boards for fun in the June sun floating grouping together with friends and family wherever the peaceful river flows wherever the peaceful river goes many feel the pace and peace only the river knows

Yelp
Awesome spot, only minutes from our house. I've mountain biked there the last 3 mornings, and will the next 2. Very easy riding, the Fall River trail is the best of the 3 in my opinion. Numerous other trails, to venture on. Campgrounds look awesome, multiple, multiple spots to get in the rivers. Free day use, lots of parking and a lot of parking lots. Very intrigued after going for the first time.

Yelp
Great place to stay just would've liked the showers to be cleaner. Will stay in a different loop if we ever stay again, North loop wasn't as nice as the middle and south loops.

Chris L.

Yelp
This is our second time staying here and we really enjoy it. The location is great - just 30 minutes south of Bend, with easy access to Sunriver and lots of fun outdoor activities. We stayed in the north loop, and learned that the middle loop is nicer (the road is better paved and the sites have sewer). Unfortunately no playground at this campground for the kids, but we walked the trails and enjoyed playing on old trees and the amphitheater stage. Bathrooms also are nice. We'd stay here again, but next time I think I want to check out the campground at Tumalo State Park.

Robb D.

Yelp
Beautiful park in a great location. Extremely well maintained and supported! Amazing hike and access to the Deschutes River throughout the campground.

Matteus H.

Yelp
Great place for the family. Well organized and easy dumping at the end. We only live a few minutes away, but we take the camper and the kids there often for a quick get a way.

Yelp
On our tour of Oregon in an RV, we stopped for two nights about 30 minutes outside of Bend, Oregon at La Pine State Park. What a beautiful, desolate, and secluded area in the woods! No Wi-Fi or cable will be found here and there are no laundry facilities. You will find thousands of pine trees, a large river, and deep in the woods a very well-kept La Pine State Park. Bring in all your groceries and supplies because nothing is available inside the park or nearer than 30 minutes away. We stayed in the North loop in site 12. I was very happy with the pull-though site that sits right next to the restrooms and by a horseshoe game area. It has a large open grass field within a few feet too. Site 12 offered a nice central location in the loop and had a small dirt area with a picnic table and fire ring. The paved roads into and around the park are smooth and great for bike riding. The kids had the most fun here playing with other kids, riding bikes, walking on the trails to the river, and playing in the large grassy field. We enjoyed visiting the 500 year old big tree too. It is located towards the entrance of the park down a long gravel road. There is a wide parking lot at the end of the gravel road where you can park and then walk about 1/2 mile to the tree clearly marked in the woods. It has a fence around it but you can get pretty close anyway. The river is large and from the path we took to visit it, didn't look like it was suitable for swimming or wading. The current was going fast and it seemed very deep. I saw others in the RV park with toys for the water so I assume that there are places in the river where accessing the water was calmer and shallower. During our stay we ventured out to Bend and stopped by the Living Desert Museum. I highly recommend this museum to those who have young kids. In Bend we found all the services and stores we needed to get groceries, gas, and propane for our RV.

Yelp
This is a state park location managed completely online. Pay, choose, register and find your site online. There are full hookup, pull through sites. Check out the website on the OR state camp site website and book the site you want for the dates you want. No one will greet you but there is an on-site host who will answer questions. Sites are large with a grill and table. Bathrooms are large with showers. Nice location for this part of OR.

Rick P.

Yelp
Very clean park , right on the river. The RV dump area is clean. Very safe from what we have experienced.

Dirk R.

Yelp
The Oregon State parks are all exceedingly well maintained, and LaPine State Park is no exception. Scores of sites spread out over three large loops, and around 10 cabins too. Just over 20 miles south of Ben, 4 miles off of Route 97, LaPine is everything you hope for. Vast open pine forests, with a scattering of Ponderosas, and the large Deschutes River winding its way from bend to bend alongside and past the park. Wifi is nonexistent, and the cell signal is fairly weak -- so make sure you have booster if you need to get online at all. Otherwise, just head up the road 5 miles to the small town of Sunriver for a good coffee and wifi. There are day trips aplenty too -- Mt. Bachelor and Paulina Peak to name just a few. Easy and stunning.

Yelp
La Pine State Park is a beauty in the desert! Combine the heat and lack of rain of the eastern desert with sme lush scenic views along the Deschutes River. It is not our first choice style of camping, we like more remote isolated stuff, but every now and then we need a reservation site and this one fit the bill for a couple nights while on a longer road trip. And it is open year round! We made a late reservation and got site 136 when someone made a cancellation. This site backs up to the main road and sits right at the park entrance but it was surprisingly private for the less than ideal location. We especially loved being able to ride our bikes on trails right from camp!

Steve H.

Yelp
We booked late so we had two different sites for two nights. The first was #64 in the middle loop, wonderful pull-thru site. Some shade, showers/bathrooms were close by. Interior roads were smooth and easy to navigate. The the site had full hookups with 30/50 amp power. Our second night was supposed to be in the North loop, site 121. Be aware that all sites in the north loop are limited to 20 amp power, which I didn't see when I booked (my error). The site said it had a 55' driveway, but the photo didn't make it clear that it's on a hill. I could not get my 35' motorhome safely level on the site. There are trees and other issues that were not clear when we booked that presented other challenges. It was clear that we could not stay in the site. When we asked for assistance to see if there was another open site we found the host for that loop was gone and the host from the other loop was not helpful. Sort of threw her hands up like 'oh well' not the normal attitude we've had with other volunteer hosts and of course the Park Ranger as with most Oregon Campgrounds was no where to be found. We gave up and left and abandoned our site for the night and left. Be aware that the North loop is very old, small sites, many are not level. This loop is not big rig friendly.

Yelp
Impressive for a state park. Very well maintained grounds and the RV sites are big with both back-in and pull thru sites. They turn off water to the sites Oct 1st but there is a communal water pump and the showers are still hot. The restrooms/showers are very spacious, clean and heated! You can buy woods at the check in kiosk. Stayed in site 31 on the south loop that had direct access via a short trail to the river.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
My definition of a great park. There are two separate camping areas, both camp areas have nice restrooms and showers. One of the camp loops has an outdoor amphitheater. The main campground has a building that you can rent and use for parties, etc. plus there are lots of different trailheads for hiking, biking, and horse riding. There is pretty much everything you would want in a campground. Also sites for tents and rvs. Also the Deschutes River runs through it, where you can fish. Most of the campsites are very close to the river. I highly recommend this campground!

John C.

Yelp
First time here, nice and quiet. Good hiking, beautiful weather if still s but chilly, and very nice facilities.

Cindy G.

Yelp
Oregon knows how to put together a park!!! We camped here & enjoyed every aspect of this place. The rv/Camping Area was 5 stars! Roomy, level, shady areas. The toilets & showers were clean. The camping area is well maintained. The park itself offers easy hiking trails & access to the river. An attraction I highly recommend is the High Desert Museum - thought we would be there an hour or so- nope, spent 6 hours there! Make sure to take in the free talks & docent lead tours- A real Jewel!!!!

Matthew B.

Yelp
Made a day trip to Madras for a family members high school graduation and ended up with a few hours to kill. Headed over to this park and spent some time relaxing in the water. Very clean and spacious. Beautiful central OR scenery. The boat traffic doesn't have much effect on the people swimming and fishing as the waterway is so large there is enough distance to keep them respectively distanced. Highly recommend making a stop here when you can.

Susan C.

Yelp
Our first camping trip trying out our new camper so we stayed close to home. The campground was full (weekend of 10/9/20) but it was so quiet even during the day. Not even dogs barking and there were plenty of them. The restrooms were spotless. Great nature trail. Wish we had our bikes. What a pleasant surprise.

Teressa L.

Yelp
Had a fantastic trip here. We stayed 4 nights. I booked the site online. I found site photos on youtube for every camp site so I could make a good decision. But wow, the site was huge!!!! We could have put another 6 large tents on the site lol. Bathrooms were clean. Camp hosts were super nice. Made sure our wood pile was super large for the price. The ranger drove through several times a day. This place isn't over crowded, so our hikes were quiet. Trails were in good shape. Bugs were not that bad being we were literally beside the river. Highly recommend this state park for camping.

Tyler W.

Yelp
Love this place! I live close by and still visit on a weekly basis. Tip: If you visit the Fall River portion please park in the designated parking lots. Lapine State Park and Trout Unlimited have been working very hard to restore vegetative areas to protect the river.

Miles F.

Yelp
Rented a rustic cabin, as advertised very rustic. Clean comfortable with a warm heater. Great place for hiking, many many trails to choose from. Quiet, clean and comfortable. Shower is clean and warm, with hot water. Winter is slower time to rent. Not crowded and staff is friendly.

Jezika D.

Yelp
Great park for hiking, fishing, swimming, dogs, camping, horse trail , riding bikes, etc we usually go there in spring time and see history big trees

Shay P.

Yelp
A quiet place to hike. We take our kids an enjoy the many trail systems within the park. All the trails are well maintained. We have also done a little fishing on the bank but with little luck. The big tree is fun for the kids to see and I know the park is popular amongst campers.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Nice park nice trails they have camping and cabins too! We like to take our dog there it's beautiful and you can fish on the Deschutes river which runs through the park.

Mary G.

Yelp
I love this state park! We have chosen to stay here once a year and we are never disappointed. Descent RV sites, lots of trails, lots of wildlife. Great large dog park. It's within driving distance to so many places.

Curtiss C.

Yelp
Beautiful, well maintained, costs/fees more than very resonable, services many and outstanding, newbies to diehards will love every visit.

Adrienne M.

Yelp
Clean. Open in the winter. Lots of trails. Campgrounds are pretty well spaced. Bathrooms were clean and heated. Showers available. Water pumps are shut off in the winter though. RV hookups available as well as cabins. Pet friendly.
