Larry's Better Burger Drive-In

We found this hole in the wall on Google and loved everything about it! The food is good, and very well priced! We got 2 burgers, fries, onion rings, and 2 drinks for $17! My personal favorite was seeing the owner working along side folks inside, and the 87 year old gentleman we got to visit with while waiting on our food. This place is nostalgic and brings to mind a simpler time of living!

Good old-fashioned burger joints are difficult to find these days but I was able to find one in Larry's Better Burger Drive-In. The staff was lovely, the food was hot, the order was correct, and my grumbly tummy was filled with tastiness. I particularly enjoyed their fries. Key things to keep in mind: They are a walk-up window burger joint and they only accept cash. I hope you enjoy this eatery as much as I did. ❤️

It was closed at 5pm. It said they were open until 6. Disappointed as I have been wanting to eat here every time I come into town.

Best burger in Abilene and the price you can't beat it. Meat had nice flavor, cheese wad melted, veggies were crisp with a great crunch. The only thing I would recommend is adding a second patty for more optimal bun to meat ratio. The onion rings are practically an experience! The batter is crispy with great flavor the onion inside nice and tender. Try the chili cheese dog, yes the chili has beans in it but man oh man is it a great flavor. We received 2 burgers with cheese, a side of fries, a side of onion rings and a chili cheese hot dog. It was only just over 15 bucks! Can't beat that! The hours are slim only open M-F and closing at 4pm but if you can make the stop it is worth jt!

First time going and I’ll be going back! Burgers reminded me of old timey diners. I ordered a large burger and it was more than I could eat. They have a large selection of food and sides. Will have to try a milk shake next time.

Came across this burger joint. Bought a burger fries a 32 oz drink and a chili cheese dog for $10.60. The lady attending is so nice and the food was delicious

These burgers are as close to life changing as a burger can be. Larry’s is now a must stop for us anytime we’re near Abilene.

BEST BURGER FOR MILES my husband and I eat here often. 2 burgers 1 homemade fries and 1 onion ring 2 soda drinks less than 20. Can't beat that with a stick. Go give them a try you won't be disappointed.

If you in love a very old fashioned and inexpensive drive-in, you've got to visit Larry's. Expect to wait or call order in beforehand. Burger and fries are delicious.

This place is great! Service is amazing ambiance is small town awesome... must be family owned. A young lady took our order, did the math in her head, and actually counted our change for $100 back to us! lol I know adults that can't do that! ‍ So, 2 burgers, plus bacon and peppers and fries including tax- $16 and change!!!! People just drive up and order at the window! So cute and practical if I could give it more stars I would Go where the locals go! But bring cash because they don't accept credit cards.

THIS is what burger places are supposed to be. Took me back to my childhood before a thousand fast food places took over. GREAT service, GREAT food. Can't wait to roll through Abilene again, just to eat there again.

Best cheeseburger i've had in SOOO long! absolutely delicious you can taste the butter on the bun. the texture of the bread is just the right amount of soft and crunch. Their homemade fries are way better than any fries from any fast food restaurant. Tastes super fresh AND AMAZING price compared to anywhere else. Larry's is just overall the best deal in town!!!!!

Me and my sister has PKU we had to go to Abilene alote to the doctor for blood work. My family would stop in Larry's for there hammers but my sister and I can't have them some my mom asked if we could have lettuce and tomatoes he said yes and he put it in a frie boat. Every time. We are so greatfull to him.

The food in the service is really good. The ambience if you like the old school burger place you'll like it.

Omg. It was like I was cooking the burger on the grill at home myself. That doesn't happen very often. People there are super awesome friendly and the burger was great.

Stopped for lunch while in town for a visit. The staff for friendly, my food was hot, fresh and made to order. Try the okra, you won't be disappointed.

Visiting a friend at the hospital in Abilene. Googled food near me and found this gem. Ordered a large cheeseburger...it was large and delicious! The prices are fantastic and the service is great. Highly recommend this place! I will be back to try more menu items...

First time eating here. Not impressed The burger was ok, but the fries were soggy and dripping in grease. Probably will not try this place again.

I wouldn't even leave a star. Wanted to surprise my kids for a burger and milkshake for lunch. Check to make sure what time they open we were good to go. Drive the 25 minutes from our house to drive and see that they are CLOSED! Burgers on a good day are great but the inconsistency is very ANNOYING and has hit the final straw for me. You want to be a true mom & pop place then get your consistency on hours and food together. Oh and for the love of GOD answer the damn phone!!!! Which did not ever get picked up on a different occasion. So this place has definitely ended up on our DO NOT WASTE your time list.

Top burgers and onion rings. Closer to closing the busier they got. Fast service. Cash is king cause they don't accept any other.

Larry's is an old-fashioned drive-in burger joint with wonderful customer service. The workers take the time to explain ingredients and I loved the taste of their home-made ice cream. If you're expecting a frou-frou gourmet place with avocado toast, don't come here. The burgers were the real deal, and no soy.

So nostalgic and DELICIOUS! A traditional drive in done right. Highly recommend. I ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, pickles, mustard, mayo and ketchup.

I'm normally not a burger person, I didn't even used to be a beef person; but when I ate here I was in shock. I'm currently 3 months pregnant and this is the only burger place I can stand, so my baby has got some great taste! I definitely recommend this place to everyone! My mom moved to South Carolina and came back and immediately wanted to eat here, I didn't object! Definitely grab a burger any chance you get, it's great, delicious, and CHEAP! Especially with prices now-a-days!

If you like hole-in-wall restaurants, this is for you! It may not look like much on the outside but the great food makes up for it! This place is run with so much love and going to an authentic drive-in is a fun experience.

We love going to Larry's. In my opinion they have the best burgers in town. Hot fresh and delicious.

I guess every rule I've lived by should be called into question now! At least my self imposed guideline of picking food joints by their outside appearances! Two of the greatest culinary experiences found between two pieces of bread have been located in next to condemned condition! One was at Charlie's Burgers in Ft. Worth. The other was the PoBoy In New Orleans! After both experiences, I thought surely these were one offs! Well my friends, today I add Larry's in Abilene to this distinguished list! This place makes "hole in the wall" joints blush as it looks straight out of a b roll for run down and abandoned America! After reading the near perfect reviews on Yelp, I couldn't pass it up! Well, kick me in the head for passing places like this for the past 45 years! The cheeseburger with fries was SO GOOD! This place is cheap too! The burger was not fancy, but everything was fresh and tasted amazing! The fries were real potatoes and greasy perfection! Add the old timer at the window who was a perfect ambassador for Abilene, and this experience is the trifecta for scary looking, but great food stops! If in Abilene, please do yourself the favor of trying it out and do an obvious long time local business the favor of providing you food that they do amazingly well!

Larry's is what it says Better Burger, I'm new to Abilene and while at a local bar I asked about where to get a good burger and hands down the people there said Larry's and they were right, and you can not beat the price. They also have a breakfast sandwich that is as good as the burger. I get mine with sausage and a large Pepsi $4.75 can not beat that with a stick. The folks working their are family and food is made fast and hot. I eat there every chance I get. They are only open a limited time and closed on the weekends, which is my only complaint. I guess you can't have it all. If you want good food you can not go wrong with Larry's Better Burger. Thanks Larry's ....Joe

Looking to get more for your money? Go to Larry's. Great food great service. It's a throwback to kinder days. I honestly thought I could hear Bill Haley playing. Do not be put off by the appearance. Just walk up and place your order then go wait in your vehicle. Half the fun is old school eating in your vehicle. One last thing, the prices include the tax.

As you pull up, the smell is great. Basic menu, cash only. Expect to wait a LONG time if it's dinner time or Friday night (closed Saturday and Sunday) No where to wait but in your car. Burger was ok, soggy fries, good onion rings. Unfortunately the slow service will keep me from coming back.

Now this is a place that may scare you away from the outside but inside is one of the best burgers I've had in Texas. I like them witches cheese and the regular condiments and it was fantastic. They serve Pepsi supper me that was a little disappointing. Finally the fries are nothing to brag about homemade which is great but very soft Not my favorite

A 3.5 would be the most appropriate score. The burgers are very good diner burgers that hit the spot. The fries are limp, greasy, and unsalted. The tater tots tasted odd, but were better than the fries. The milkshakes are those cheap blue bunny tasting milkshakes. All in all a good burger place.

Last week while hanging out with friends, talking about places in town, places to go things to do and do in Abilene, as well as places to eat best pizza, or sandwich, and of course some of the best burgers in town. That's so when the name of Larry's Better Burger came up, I was like never heard of it. So naturally I got to check it out right... Larry's Better Burger looks like a place from Dives & Dinners that show on TV. Well guess what they got an Awesome Burger!!! Real meat, fixed the way you like it. Now you have to go to the window and order, no car hops or anything like that going on. Not sure it works as a first date to impress the ladies. For a good family meal or quick lunch, heck yeah! Its got to be one of Abilene's best burgers. Cash only, and they got Big Red Soda, how Texas is that.

Been eating here for years. The owners and workers are tops! The food is great and service matches. Prices are half of what they are at other burger joints. Yes there is normally a wait time of 10 minutes or so but the food is always hot and fresh. If you haven't tried Larry's, you need to!

Got to try Larry's for the first time tonight when my wife stopped and picked up burgers and fries for dinner. Given what I'd heard, I was happy to finally get to try their food. We live a little way out of town, so the burger wasn't 100% fresh when I got it. I'm sure it would have been better fresh off the griddle, but as it was it was a passable burger. Not great, not bad. Toasted bun, thin patty, mustard, American cheese, (oddly green) lettuce, pickles, and onion. No tomato, as requested. The fries, though....they were awful. Cool, squishy, greasy clump of sliced potatoes in a cardboard boat, soaking through the bag. I'll eat almost anything, but these were just poorly done. I'm sure it was a busy evening and the grease got cool, but still...these should not have been served. They were crappy at any price. I now wish I'd taken a picture. Can't say I'm excited to try Larry's again. Maybe they had new folks in the kitchen on a busy night...who knows.

Went here for the first time in the years I've lived here. Remember cash only, but prices are low. Ordered a burger with bacon minus onions and tomato, tots and rings. The burger was ok even without my bacon that was ordered but also had onions on it. Tots were good but the rings were great. Wait time is kind of long but it was cooked fresh.

Literally my favorite place in Abilene. Just moved here a couple months ago and finding a favorite local place was hard. If you like burgers this will be your favorite for a meal and desert. Oh yeah. Also the best shake you will have in Abilene. If you haven't tried this place, please help yourself find your new favorite restaurant. The staff is literally always so nice and friendly I can't believe how lucky we were to find and try this place.

Hadn't been to Larry's until the other day, and I've lived here 3 years. Definitely will be going back again soon. Ordered at the window, waited in our car until it was done, was expecting to pay for the nostalgia, didn't know the place existed since it's not clearly marked. Order number was called, paid half of what I expected. It's delicious food and worth the wait. Absolutely delicious!!

I don't know how this spot doesn't have more reviews. This is totally drive in/bowling alley burgers, and if you have any taste you know what I'm talking about. So delicious, and hit the spot. The vanilla milkshake was fantastic, and the onion rings were right on par. My only complaint was the fries...but hey, still pretty good overall.

I ordered the basket with the steak fingers, it came with fries, gravy and texas toast. Unfortunately the fries were very undercooked and soggy, the steak fingers were dry, thin and tasteless and the texas toast was dry, overcooked and almost burnt. My husband ordered a chili dog and was mildly disappointed with the fact it came with beans as beans are usually specified. We will be going back to Larry's eventually because you can't be sure about something unless you give it another crack - but this was a very disappointing first-time Larry's experience.

Finally was in the right part of town when I had cash in my pocket to try Larry's. The food was good as expected. The burger was fresh, cooked well and had good flavor. The fries were just the way I like them. Really hoping to try more things in the future. Remember, they don't take card, so make sure you have cash or check.

Great family food. Burgers and veggies are fresh and affordable. Take you time to review the menu and what your getting. It's a bit different than your traditional menu. Overall good food, great ambiance and wonderful people. Can't wait to go back.

This has got to be my new favorite burger in Abilene! And don't even get me started on the fried okra! Delicious and perfectly crunchy. The staff was friendly and the whole thing just feels like you have stumbled on a secret treasure. I love that they have not tried to update the signage and the building...it adds to the authenticity. The only thing I would add is piping some old music outside for the people eating there.

Huge variety on the menu. Drive up only, looks a little divey, but don't let that deter you. Great food at great prices. There is usually a little bit of a wait, but the food is worth it. Cash only.

Good god, this place is older than I am. A hole in the wall that hasn't been painted in 30 years. You will look at it and go.......not me! But, they were serving good burgers 50 years ago and they still are. Old school to a tee. Cash or check only, no cards. Several specials that are a good deal. I had a cheeseburger, fries, and a small shake for $6.50. That's barely a burger most places. You still have to walk up to the window to place your order, then listen for your number over the loudspeaker. If you can get past the looks and the location, you will like the food.

This place is a hole in the wall. It has no illusions otherwise. It's a place with homestyle burgers. It's the kind of place where if you don't tell them what to put on your burger it comes mustard, all the way. The chocolate malt is what you'd expect from this drive-in lost in time, delicious! Just know much like the style of eatery, it's payment system is a bit behind the times so bring cash or cheque. Don't complain, just get over it, and get a burger and a shake!

Larry's really is the better burger in Abilene! I've been getting fat off these delectable burgers since I was a Taylor Trojan and they are just as good today as they were when I was dripping mustard in my Dukes of Hazzard tshirt. Don't forget dessert. The homemade ice cream is outstanding. My kids love the Butterfinger and Cookies and cream as much as I do. Burger, fries, drink and ice cream for less than $6! What a deal! Just be sure and leave your window rolled down so you can hear your number when they call it!

Nothing like Larry's! A true Abilene business, with the walk up order window and all. I have been going to Larry's since I was little and it's always the same as I remember. Smiling faces to take your order and just a little wait and you'll have your food just the way you ordered! The portions are big and the prices are low. You can never go wrong with some homemade ice cream afterwards either. Keep up the good work!

If you're wanting a "typical" American burger, this is DEFINITELY the place to go. Best. Burgers. In. Abilene. If you want something a little more flashy, Wholly Cow has Larry's beat with their jalapeno buns and large variety of toppings, but for the price and the quality, Larry's is my go to spot. The prices cannot be beat, especially if you have a larger family, a group of hungry college guys or a group of friends. Larry's is the epitome of those "hole in the wall" places that blow you away with their wonderful offerings. Plus, no Larry's trip is complete without onion rings, tater tots and okra! Your cardiologist will not be thanking you... CASH ONLY!!!
