Nina and I saw this place in a Chronicle write up of the best fish tacos in the Bay Area. It was amongst the top 10. We came here today for lunch. It's in the little strip mall on MLK where Ono Bakehouse was, in the block north of TJ's. I had passed by it when walking to Ono Bakehouse from the rooftop parking lot, which looked closed today, w/ grill-work grates closing off the entrance and exit ramps. I wanted to go to TJ's after lunch, so I parked in their lot and we walked over.
There were several people at tables eating in and the restaurant looks like it does a robust takeout business, judging by the wrapped packages stacked on the counter. It's an order and pay at the counter type of place. Nina ordered first, two Baja fish tacos which come w/ chips and two cups to fill w/ salsa from the salsa bar. She ordered a pineapple agua fresca to drink. I ordered two Baja fish tacos as well, w/ horchata to drink. I took Nina's drink to the table and the sweet young woman at the register brought mine. We sat at a table that was half booth seating w/ the other half chairs. Nina went to get salsas and I went to use the single unisex bathroom, which was nicely tiled and immaculate. By the time I returned to the table our food was being served.
The tacos were flour and they were generously filled w/ fried fish, probably cod, judging from the taste, topped w/ pico de gallo and a slice of avocado w/ a wedge of lime to squeeze over them. The tacos were so generously filled that we needed to eat some of the pieces of fish w/ a fork before we could close them. Although I prefer corn tortillas these were good, not too thick and I had the corn chips to give me my corn fix. These chips were thicker than the ones at Taqueria La Cocina, and lightly salted. We were both pleased w/ our lunch and will return. The space is beautifully decorated, w/ a colorful mural painted on the south wall, which Nina had as her view as we ate and talked. My back was to it. I should have taken a photo of it but didn't think of it until I got home.
