Las Cazuelas Review - Northern Liberties - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"A night at Las Cazuelas is very simple. Bring a good bottle of tequila and they’ll handle the shrimp ceviche, Mexican street corn slathered in crema, and mango margaritas. The relaxed restaurant on Girard Ave. (that’s usually easy to walk into) is a great place to take a group of friends on a budget since their tacos cost under $15. Go for the suadero, as the braised steak is so tender and juicy that you might even forget to belt out “Happy Birthday” when it’s time." - Candis R. McLean

Great machacado, tortillas were home made. Coffee was okay…l am a coffee snob. Service was slow but they were very busy. I would come back. Thank you.

Google
An older restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. Do not let the aged look turn you away. The fajitas are awesome. The salsa has some heat but is SO GOOD! Definitely give the senior a try.

Google
Unfortunately, this place is disgusting. I have had enough of how much I try to give this restaurant a chance and time and time again they disappoint. It never fails that I always find hair in my food ! Tables are never clean and the atmosphere is slumish. I will be making a report for inspection, so they better be ready and tighten up. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s roaches or some type of infestation in the back, I’ve even seen roaches in the bathroom.

Came on a Saturday ordered breakfast this time. It was good, but when you order Chicharon w egg, you expect the chicharones to be cooked and not like chips outta the bag thrown in with the egg uncooked. Was crunchy. idk who thinks this is the right way, but it isn't. Yet it's fair, but it's like eating pork rines out of the bag. That wasn't really that great. Barbacoa with 2 over medium eggs was good.

Google
I usually hit Las Vegas when in Harlingen, but today I saw Las Cazuelas and gave it a try. The salsa is very good with just the right amount of spice. I really enjoyed the enchiladas, and the beans were excellent. Had the ponchos as well. Overall a great meal and good prices.

Google
Ordered chicken caldo and it was delicious! It’s a large bowl enough for 2 people, I am taking half home for another meal ❤️. The guacamole was also fantastic. My husband ordered a beef fajita taco and it was delicious. Great place to eat.

Google
Got menudo, you could tell it was home made because it smelled like poo. But I ended up throwing it away because it had a long blond hair in it. GROSS ...Won't be going back ..

Google
The food was great. My only thing was the choice of music being played plus it was so loud you could hardly have a conversation. Plus our waitress was more interested in her friends at a neighboring table than getting our order. Plus you don't leave the straws for the drinks across the table from your clients. Not good.

Yelp
Ordered the Special: 3 barbacoa tacos with a side cup of menudo. The barbacoa was really clean. The tortillas were really soft and the menudo was delish!

Yelp
Not bad but not great and really not real good. The food was not Hot and that May be the reason I'm saying it. They knew too because the shredded cheese was not melted on top of what should have been a HOT PLaTE. Oh well....

Jaime S.

Yelp
Good food recommend this place to anyone who wants good Mexican food and the have drinks too

Yelp
This isn't a fair rating since we only went in for chips, salsa and margaritas, but we can't seem to find a decent margarita around Harlingen for the life of us. Im6sure COVID has affected everyone, but salsa was pure tomatoe sauce and chips were from an HEB bag, if I didn't know better.

Yelp
Las Cazuelas has been here at this location in Harlingen, Tx for many, many years. They serve a wide variety of true Mexican and Tex-Mex meals but generally no better and no worse than dozens of other Mexican restaurants in the area. I have eaten here many times over the years but hadn't been in the last couple of years due to the Covid situation. Yesterday, I took my wife out for dinner and Las Cazuelas came to mind so off we went. My wife had the broiled fish (which had too little fish and way too many vegetables) and I had the Carne Asada. Since I don't hardly ever drink anything but a couple of sips, I seldom waste the $2 on a soda and yesterday was no different so I had water. The water tasted HORRIBLE (like it came out of the river). Other than that, our dinners were okay. Not great, not good, just okay. The reason I have given them such a low rating (almost went with one star instead of two) is this: they charged me a 4% upcharge for paying with my credit card. There was NO notice of this. I didn't know about this upcharge until I reviewed my receipt. For this, WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING.

Yelp
My boyfriend's dad recommended this place and I was a little hesitant since I had never been there. We showed up at 8:00 a.m. It was early so not a lot of people were there so our service was quite quick. We both ended getting the same plate with barbacoa, eggs, potatoes and refried beans. The plates came with tortillas and I asked for flour. The flour tortillas were hands down the best I've had. They were large, perfectly cooked, and incredibly tasty. The refried beans were homemade and y'all, they were amazing. I feel like they added in some bacon grease (they may not have) but it tasted awesome! I didn't like the barbacoa which is why I couldn't give this restaurant a 5 star review. The barbacoa tasted bland. And I didn't like the texture of this particular barbacoa. My boyfriend loved it though so maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it. Also, I thought the potatoes were undercooked but my boyfriend did not. Again, maybe they caught me at a bad time. Either way I enjoyed this place and can't wait to come back to try some tacos!

Yelp
The parking lot is a bit small but once you park and go inside, the restaurant opens an ambience of chill and Mex! The waiters and Manager Rosa are ready to order and serve you. Never have I had a problem with respectable timing and a great meal. I had menudo and my fam had carne guisada.

Yelp
First drink ordered was a water served with a cockaroach. Waitress laughs when situation is explained and continues to ask what else we would like to order. She then explains the roach probably died before falling in the water. Then another waitress tends to us once she leaves.

Yelp
I would rate the food five stars just because i love, love ,love mexican food. However, don't get it twisted i know good mexican food from bad mexican food. Five stars for good food and good memories. I would recommend the chalupas!!! Omg..they are muy rico! The price is affordable and a local favorite for me. Miss the convenience of good food right down the street. April

Yelp
Hot and best salsa. Other places can't get it right like this place can. Enmoladas were ok. Food was ok. Best part is the artsy atmosphere and the heat of the salsa.

Yelp
I love Las Cazuelas! The staff is friendly and welcoming. Great specials and they have delicious Margarita happy hour on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays - $2.00 Margs! My favorites dishes are Combo #4 and Flautas. The salsa is also very good.

Yelp
This is a place I hadn't come to since childhood. That was at least 20 years ago, so this place has been around for a while! Anyway, the experience was just OK. I ordered the quesadillas, and while I got a decent amount of food the beef fajitas in my quesadillas were way too chewy. The taste was fine, but them being as chewy as they were had my jaw getting tired. On top of this the beans tasted funny, and the sweet tea was bland. I came at a later hour, around 8pm, so I still expected the food to be on point, but it wasn't.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst experience I've had in HGN. 1 star only cause NO Star is not an option! Ordered short ribs that were, in fact, very tough Country Ribs. The Mgr acknowledged that I did not get short ribs and then just shrugged. Brought them home to my dog who almost turned them down...and she once noshed on a rat! Rice and beans were cold and tortillas were commercial as were the tostadas (Dorito knock-offs). Stay away!!

Yelp
I didn't like this place and was surprised I didn't! This place had great reviews. I ordered chicken crispy tacos and the chicken was dark meat with bits of tendon shredded into it. It was really gross. The rice and beans had no taste. Cute restaurant, but I won't be visiting again.

Yelp
Not only are the breakfast tacos huge, but they taste great! Very courteous wait staff.

Yelp
The panchos are the thing to go for. The tortilla chips are fried and they are made to perfection. The chalupas are made with the same tortilla and topped similarly chip. Refried beans. Cheese. Guacamole. Meat. In a chalupa it continues with lettuce and tomato. I was a little disappointed with the lengua (tongue) I'm used to it being melt in ur mouth soft. This one was tough :( the service was superb and quick we went and it wasn't busy. Hopefully its the same when it is busy. Must go for happy hour as it is reccomended by the locals

Yelp
This place is great! It is the first time I am trying this restaurant and I had the Crazy Migas and a Barbacoa Taco. The crazy migas were awesome! What makes them "crazy" vs regular migas is that they add chorizo in the mix. There is also a delicious amount of cheese melted on top. I think my favorite bites included bits of sautéed tomato. The Barbacoa taco I didn't really care for much. The meat was bland and greasy. The tortillas here are killer! Obviously made from scratch and and each a different oblong shore, these tortillas are uniquely delicious. Their chips and salsa are about average but I appreciate the saltiness of the chips with the blandness of the salsa. They weirdly compliment each other in that way. I would not really eat them on without each other.

Yelp
Horrible service. Waited 45 mins for eggs, and they were over cooked. Had to get up and ask for more tea. Waiter said, only one cook. But it was 3pm. Not lunch rush! We left before they took another 45 mins to redo my eggs! WILL NOT RETURN!!

Yelp
Good food at great prices. I had the chimichunga, fajita quesadilla fish tacos and enchilada. It was all good. Flavorful dishes on min, wed and Fri is happy hour and you can get $2 margarita. If wasn't for decor, would have have them 5 stars. Staff and mgmt are also friendly.

Lynn J.

Yelp
Service was excellent, food was reasonably priced. Sadly the food was just mediocre but the salsa was very good. The restaurant was very noisy with patron AND noises from the kitchen/bar blender. We probably won't be back.

Yelp
We were in town for one night and really wanted some authentic Mexican food. Las Cazuelas was recommended over others by the hotel. Sorry to say it did not live up to any of it's recommendations. In fact the food was quite poor. Perhaps I chose wrong. The Carne Guisada was very fatty and greasy and the Chicken Mole was more of a grey color rather than a chocolate color. Pretty unappetizing. They also aerve alcohol but anything more than a mass produced beer, don't even think about it, especially wine. The service was so so. The server seemed more annoyed that we were there. Save yourself some trouble, don't go there.

Yelp
Graet food great price. Nothing fancy but tasty food at a good price.

Yelp
Love this place! The offer all the classic dishes and it's one of my favorite places for breakfast. Margaritas are also awesome!
google avatar

Missy M.

Yelp
I ordered the large fajita taco with rice and beans. When the food came out, they forgot my rice and beans. Waiter never checked on us. The food was bland, like they didn't use seasoning. Overall the food was tasteless and the service was bad.

Yelp
Love this place and I eat there whenever I am back in Harlingen. Travel a lot with my job and it's hard to find good mexican food lt alone great food and great service! Staff is freindly and quick. Margaritas are DELICIOUS!!! I'll be there in 3 days and that's my first stop. :)

Bella B.

Yelp
The service was good but the food was extremely greasy. Many more options in the area that are much better.

Joe T.

Yelp
Nice Mexican restaurant. Food was delicious, pricing was affordable. Very nice Art Deco

Yelp
I grew up in Harlingen but never tried them until recently. The food is fantastic. I dare say that the fajita meat is tastier than Pepe's and the guacamole is tastier. I'd recommend the Panchitos and Sombreros.

Yelp
This place has been around forever. Visiting from Virginia, this was on top of our list of places to eat at while in town. Great food, better prices, great service. The breakfast is on point, always a lot of food to fill you up until dinner time. It's even better when your favorite dish is a special for the day. I'll definitely be coming here every time we visit.

South T.

Yelp
I do not recommend, very bad customer service.and the cashier ,the older lady, does nothing to help out the servers. I waited an hour for a soup and when i got it, it was cold, my husband ordered fajitas and the were tough.

Yelp
One of my favorite Mexican digs in Harlingen. The Tostadas are to die for. Drinks are decent and always cheap.

Katerin W.

Yelp
OMG!!! The service is amazing. Our server Jose was the sweetest. He treated us like queens. Best service I have had in my life. His micheldas are amazing. P.s don't look at his eyes you might fall for them. Every time I go I like him to take care of us. He might ended up selling you a Margarita even if you didn't have that in mind.

Alicia A.

Yelp
The best Migas I've ever tasted. You've got to try them! Our waitress was wonderful. The food was hot and soooo delicious. And you can't beat the prices here - super affordable.

Diana H.

Yelp
The food is just ok. The service was not very good. I will not recommend this place. Would ask for something and have to ask a second time to get it. We eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants so I know good from bad

Liz O.

Yelp
The Chile relleno that I order didn't even look like a Chile relleno the taste was not good,my husband ordered Mole and it was very bland it needed flavor and it was very watery, the tortilla chips tasted like store bought and tortillas were store bought as well. I will not ever consider going back nor recommended to anyone

Christina P.

Yelp
Their food is good. Service is fine. You have to watch out on how they charge. I was over charged a couple of times. We ordered 2 plates and were charged almost $30. We were about to leave and I decided to go back in and ask how 2 plates (average $8) and drinks can be almost $30. So anytime we go eat there, I write down all the prices. At the end, I total that up with tax. I just wonder how many more people they do that to, especially with big parties.
