New Orleans Favorite Avenue Pub Reopens With New Owners, Even Better Menu | Eater New Orleans

"I'm watching a promising new restaurant from the team behind Central City BBQ take shape: Las Cruces is planned for late summer 2023 at 2935 Airline Drive in Old Metairie and will blend the smoked meats Central City BBQ is known for with Tex-Mex staples. The project is a partnership between Marc Bonifacic (who opened Central City BBQ in 2016) and Aaron Burgau (owner of Patois and Charlie’s Steakhouse), and the 8,000-square-foot space is expected to offer indoor and outdoor seating for 300." - Clair Lorell

Angelle was our server and she was amazing. Shes Very sweet, attentive and very knowledgeable of each dish. Me being confused on what to get (per usual), she was awesome with helping me decide by describing each delicious dish.i picked beef enchiladas and i will never forget them. Angelle's personality made us very comfortable along with quite a few laughs. I will be back with the grand babies. They have a neat little yard for kids to chalk on the fence, and/or play connect 4, or just enjoy the outside. I needed one of their shirts,(they have a chicken on the back!!) so while trying to decide on the color, the sweet hostess (I didn't get her name) was very patient with me. She as well was very nice. Go get you some delicious Mexican food and ask for Angelle!!!

Food was great and was the service was even better! Our server Zack went above and beyond making sure our drinks were full and our questions about things on the menu were answered. Went with his recommendation of the hanger steak fajitas and wow...delicious. Will definitely be back again with the family! They have such a nice little outdoor area!

I gave the food a three because I didn't actually eat any of the food. I was hanging out with some friends that were eating at this lovely place and I happened to not be hungry. That being said the atmosphere and the cleanliness and the service was phenomenal. There was this tall drink of water named Zach with stylishly slicked back hair that was very charming and funny. He made the experience better.

I wanted to give this place another try since our visit was a few days after their opening. I really wanted to like the place. Atmosphere is great and service is good. Food however is not so good. I grew up about 50 Mike's from Las Cruces and this was not even close. Second, I agree with another reviewer that the same red spices seem to be on every item we tried, overpowering flavor and not great. The steak nachos were best, less of that spice, cumin perhaps.

For me its about a 3/3.5. Top star for atmosphere bc its really neat with the train running you can see it out the 2nd story window. And the outdoor area is fantastic for families. Another great point is the fabulous service. Super attentive but not too much. Kept my drink full. Even remembered our entire party order. Instead of asking "who had the tacos?" However for main reason of the hour... the food. The yellow rice had a very stale flavor like cardboard. The Mexican street corn had a crazy red seasoning that was over powering and just not good. The "steak" was not good. Kinda like rubbery pieces. The chicken and cheese quesadilla was pretty good. The beans did not look good at all. Id say its strangely different. Its like what mexican place has bbq and sliced turkey and brisket and burgers? Pick a lane and focus on it, id say but what do i know... Like its trying too hard to be different and the food is decent. Im sorry I wanted to like it. But I knew from the photos it wouldn't be good. The burrito is topped with red sauce that makes it soggy. What else... the house salsa is fantastic. The queso is thick melted white velveeta ish but not horrible. All in all, I wouldn't return. There's just too many good options in nola to have mediocre food. Imo, juans flying burrito is better

I read a review that a customer said the fajitas were brisket. The owner denied that claim on her post, but my hangar fajitas came out as smoked brisket as well, therefore it's true. If I knew that I was getting smoked, fully cooked meat, that was likely smoked throughout the day, I wouldn't have ordered it. The vegetables were soft slop and looked like stew with the meat on top. None of it was freshly cooked as claimed. It was nearly shredding like pot roast. You can't cook meat like that as quick as that came out. My daughter got a salad with a different cut of meat, and her meat looked and tasted exactly the same what as I had, likely cut from the same larger piece. It also came out within about 5 minutes. I don't like smoked meats or overcooked meat. I also don't like roast, which is what it was like. I paid my bill and threw the food away. I wouldn't go back. For those who enjoy slow smoked meats, have at it. Maybe the workers are cutting corners that the owner isn't aware of. The margarita was just OK. My server was nice which is the only reason for the 2 stars. In response to the defensive owner....unless you can do magic in the kitchen such that you can over cook a steak to tender in the time it takes to walk to the kitchen, plate the food, and return to the table, I'd believe you. My food was at the table within 5-6 minutes of placing the order. The meat was warm at that. You may fool someone else....

Nice new place a nice clean new appearance inside. The menu is a little different. I had pablano peppers, they were fresh that made them good. The meat inside had a great flavor didn’t necessarily care for cheddar cheese over the top or whatever aïoli on top of the cheddar cheese. Charlie my waiter did a good job.

On a Saturday, I was driving home from doing an errand in the area and noticed a sign saying this place was open, so I stopped in for lunch. Everything seemed very clean inside and nicely decorated. I got the burrito and it was HUGE and very good. They brought a little machine to the table for me to pay, and I left. The next day, I decided to check it out again since I enjoyed the first visit. I got the fajitas, which were smokin' hot and very good. There was something just off about the meat, so despite having a lot left, I did not want to bring it home. The waitress dropped the bill at the table, I put my card inside and waited. She dropped off the payment slip and I did not even notice she had not left my card for me. I signed and went about my business. It wasn't until I went to pay at my next stop did I realize she had not given the card back to me. So I had to come all of the way back to get it. All three times I came in, I was nicely greeted. When she brought my card to me, she said she forgot I had used a card. Really? You just forgot? I wonder why they don't always use the little machine they brough my first visit.
