New Orleans Favorite Avenue Pub Reopens With New Owners, Even Better Menu | Eater New Orleans

"I'm watching a promising new restaurant from the team behind Central City BBQ take shape: Las Cruces is planned for late summer 2023 at 2935 Airline Drive in Old Metairie and will blend the smoked meats Central City BBQ is known for with Tex-Mex staples. The project is a partnership between Marc Bonifacic (who opened Central City BBQ in 2016) and Aaron Burgau (owner of Patois and Charlie’s Steakhouse), and the 8,000-square-foot space is expected to offer indoor and outdoor seating for 300." - Clair Lorell

First time here, beautiful huge clean brand new building! Great atmosphere, huge patio and outdoors space. Sat at bar, bartender was attentive and wonderful. Came for taco Tuesdays and it didn’t disappoint at all! Super yummy! Great margaritas and food!

New resteraunt has a great outdoor are that's perfect for larger groups. Especially nice for little kids. Great guacamole and cheese dip. Everyone loved the Carne assada. The brisket is terrible (dry and chopped). You slice brisket. Nobody ate the yellow rice and beans were OK. The Brussels sprouts are excellent.

I wanted to give this place a try by ordering food through DoorDash when not feeling well. For the cost, we were severely underwhelmed. We ordered a fajita meal, a burger meal, and a few orders of churros. Everything was packaged very well, but the meals were just overall, okay. I will add that the cook on the shrimp was perfection. The churros….. should have never been sent out to a paying customer, especially at the cost this restaurant charges for churros, a relatively simple product. Overcooked and doused with an unusual amount of cinnamon. If the overcooking didn’t make them not edible, the amount of cinnamon did. The primary reason I ordered from this place was because I was looking for a restaurant on DoorDash that offered churros on the menu. I understand off days, but I reiterate, this was a product that should have never went out to a customer. If the churros are always this way, then yikes!

Great place! I've been here twice so far. First off, their free chips and salsa are excellent. Their "Guacamole" is creamy and delicious! Loved my "Taco Salad Bowl" with smoked chicken. Amazing smoked chicken flavor! Also had the "Smothered Burrito with Chorizo". Soo good. Spacious place with an outside play area for kids. Good service too

Won’t be back. I’ve been wanting to try this place. It was in the Clipper magazine I received today- $30 for 15 so I got it. Went there for dinner with my teenage daughter. Ordered large queso. It’s somewhere between a white and yellow queso. Nothing special. Shoulda got the small. There was something in it I asked the waitress about. She took it away, came back to say it was part of a stem from a jalapeño. Ok. Never had that before. Entrees came out fast. 5 minutes fast. Ordered the wrong thing- fish tacos. It was red snapper. First bite and it was pink in the middle. The other bite was ok but showed the waitress and asked if it was ok to just switch to a ground meat taco. I was turned off by the fish. How can you go wrong with ground meat at a Mexican restaurant? Ground meat taco was bland. Super greasy. Look at the pic of the grease on my plate that dripped off the taco. Wish I woulda taken pics of the queso and pink fish now… Cadillac margarita was pretty decent. Our waitress kept saying she was new but was good/attentive. Didn’t have a manager or anyone else come by. Won’t be back Edit: owner responded. Blood line? No. The fish was pink as in raw

Today my family and I went out to lunch. We wanted to try this new Mexican restaurant down the street so we came to Las Cruces Mexican cuisine. I don’t normally leave reviews but the food was so good I had to. Our server‘s name was Stacy. I can’t recommend her enough. Great food great service great atmosphere five stars.

Came here with my family over the weekend. Here are the pros: Our small children had an excellent time. The outdoor area is shaded, turfed, fenced in, and they have chalk for the kiddos to use. They loved it, and as a parent it was nice to let them run around. There were a fair amount of other kids there as well. The atmosphere was pretty nice. It was a clean environment, looks like new construction, plenty of tv’s which was nice bc I could peep at the football game. The appetizers were pretty good. We got the smoked wings (buffalo) and queso dip. The wings were good. They dip was pretty good. The entire staff was really nice. Our server was pretty attentive. Unfortunately, the one con is a pretty big deal for a restaurant: Two of the three adult entrees were borderline inedible. We got two orders of enchiladas and one order of fajitas. My wife thought the fajitas were poor but not the end of the world. The enchiladas, on the other hand, were just really bad. They were dry, which is really odd since I usually expect enchiladas to be basically smothered, but I can get around that. The flavor though was something else. I hope the cooks had an accident because the flavor was so salty and so limey. It really tasted like someone had poured a cup of salt on it, and then squeezed a bottle of grocery store lime juice in a bottle on it. Those were the flavors, nothing else. I took three bites, one of each enchilada, and then tapped out. The next day I tried one of the kids tacos (we had boxed those up to go as our kids seemed to like them enough). After I reheated it there was a large trail of grease on the plate. Don’t love that as we tried to order the healthiest thing for them on the menu (a grilled chicken soft taco). I know it’s a Tex Mex restaurant so it sounds ridiculous to be complaining about health, but still. To be fair, the manager did come out and ask us how our meal was, and then when we expressed our displeasure he did say he would talk to the kitchen. After that our server told us she would comp our enchiladas as we weren’t satisfied with them. So that lessened the blow since the prices are pretty high compared to your average Tex Mex joint. The price for a small cup of queso, 6 wings, 3 entrees, two kids meals, one beer and one margarita was going to be roughly $140 before tax and tip. It ended up being around $100 with the two comped entrees. We really wanted to like this place and were quite excited for it. The food was just really subpar, so much so that it negated the rest of the positives of our experience. I wish I had a better review.

Awesome place if you’re looking for something to do with kids. Large outdoor area and relaxed atmosphere. Got drinks from the bar. Service was excellent and the drinks were delicious! Great family environment! Will definitely be back :)

Yelp
What a great first visit to this restaurant! We arrived around 8 pm and were seated after a short wait. The decorations were beautiful, and they really made the place feel welcoming. For my meal, I ordered the smoked pork nachos, and they were absolutely incredible--easily the highlight of the night. The food was delicious and definitely worth the trip. Our waiter was very nice and kept apologizing for a few issues, like a slow handheld computer for payments, but it was completely understandable. They were very sweet and handled it well. The only real inconvenience was the poor cell signal, which I'm guessing is because it's so close to the train tracks. Despite the small hiccups, the delicious food and wonderful service made it a fantastic evening. I'll be back for those nachos for sure!

Yelp
Las Cruces has a great happy hour, featuring house margaritas for just $6. The catch is you have to sit at the bar to take advantage of the deal. I ordered the house margarita and also the half size happy hour nachos with grilled chicken. The nachos were on the smaller side, but they were tasty and definitely worth it for only $6. I will definitely be back for happy hour and to explore the menu

Yelp
Food was flavorful and delicious! I loved the salsa, rice and beans and the hanger steak was seasoned perfectly! Such a colorful inside and very nice but very bright. I like a little less brightness when dining. The service was not great but I'm in the industry so it doesn't bother me as much a "normal" customer. The bartender made fantastic margaritas and super friendly. I will be back to try other menu options!

Yelp
Shady practices by "new manager." We had a party of 8 that went for a birthday. After our meal, we received our bill. The bottom of the bill has a 20% "Service Charge" on the bottom. Verifying that this was tip, we asked the waitress solve we didn't want to have her not get a tip. The waitress was not sure, so she went to ask the manager. She came back and informed us that the manager said this just a service charge, and indeed, not her tip. This really confused us, we were getting charged $38 just to bring new people in to the restaurant. We asked to speak to the manager. He came out and assured us that the service charge was not the waitress tip, and it was for the kitchen and front of house, etc. Looking at the menu after, I read "20% Gratuity added to parties of 8 or more, and only one bill." Ok, this makes sense, since it guarantees fair tipping. But for the manager and waitress to confirm that the service charge was not the tip really rubs me the wrong way. I definitely will not be back, not will I recommend it to anyone. Can you imagine bringing new people to a place, and being charged 20% for it, then being expected to leave a 20% also. POSITIVE: The waitress was amazing. She was attentive and helpful. It's just sad that this place seems to screw them over on big tables. *** UPDATE *** The manager is clearly mistaken on our conversation. The employee and the manager were VERY clear that the 20% "Service Charge" was NOT the waitress tip nor gratuity, and it was a service fee for 8 or more people to help pay for the cooks, cleaners, etc. It was only removed because we specifically asked to take it off. The manager said he could reduce it, but removed it only after we insisted it. His words pretty much said, No, the fee is not for the waitress, it is the service charge for the facility. Very clear that the tip was not included. We go with groups all the time and added Gratuity is normal when it's a large group. Like every restaurant we go to. We questioned the words "Service Charge" so we wanted to validate that. If they had just said, "yes, that is the gratuity, which included the tip," like we asked, I wouldn't have written anything here. But to clarify, we have 7 other people with us that heard the same thing. Sorry, but your recollection is only partial and not the full story.

Yelp
Came here for a business lunch on a Monday. Pretty empty and a reservation was not required. We were seated quickly and served fairly quick. Restaurant appeared clean and tidy. Food was served hot and decent quality. Side veggies were squash and mushrooms and tasted ok. Nothing spectacular and flavors were ok. They also serve a limited menu of blue oak BBQ at this location too.

Yelp
This place did a great job with the huge space they have. They have an entire backyard perfect for the kiddos to play in. And this restaurant is HUGE. Definitely good for groups and parties. It is directly behind the Dollar Tree and Planet Fitness and along the train tracks. Which, oddly enough, I never heard the train once while we dinned here; they must have really good inulation. I came here for happy hour about a month ago. The HH is at the bar only and from 3 to 6 Monday through Friday. I ordered the smoked pork nachos which were on $9 and it was pretty tasty. These are the people from Central City BBQ. I do kind of wish some of the items on their CC menu were on this menu, like the boudin, but I realize it is supposed to be a different restaurant. The service was great and the restaurant was clean. I will probably be back for more happy hour fun times.

Yelp
My first time trying this place and I was not impressed. The building is new and very clean. Our server was friendly, but the food just really missed the mark for me. I didn't like the queso at all.. it had what tasted like a curry spice blend in it that I did not enjoy. The salsa was pretty tasty and nice and spicy but the beans and rice were pretty bland. I had a steak taco that was just ok.. the meat had a good smoky flavor but it was chopped up very small. The skinny Marg just fell short for me too. I really wanted to like this place :(

Yelp
Was so excited to try this place out but was disappointed with the our experience. They def have some kinks to work out. Let's start with the good. Friendly hosts, and steak fajita was great! Usually I think fajitas are too dry but the meat on this was delightful. The negatives though: 1. I wasn't wowed with my chicken enchiladas. The red sauce was a little too smoky and overpowered the taste for the whole dish. 2. Out server. I don't want to call her out by name because she's young and inexperienced. But she could definitely benefit from some extra shadowing/training. I ordered chicken enchiladas and was brought a chicken quesadilla. Told the food runner and he went right back. The server came over to ask me what I ordered like she was hearing it for the first time. She never apologized once. Just "okay" and walked away. We had to specifically ask for refills on our drinks. We were one of 4 tables in the restaurant with three servers, so it wasn't that she was too busy. Just didn't seem like she wanted to be there? Long story short: I'll be back a few months from now once they work out a few things. Great potential here!

Yelp
First time here and the service was nice. The restaurant is decorated pretty. I had the frozen lemonade 10/10 and the brisket sandwich with fries 7/10. I would come back.

Yelp
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! Walked in on a Wednesday night with my dog and husband. We waited 10 minutes before we were addressed and able to request a table. We almost left but let it slide since I saw they were busy. We informed the hostess that we wanted outdoor seating since we had our dog with us. She informed us it would be a 30 minute wait. We were fine with that and she added us to the wait list. She also told us we could sit at the open chairs outside while we waited for a table. There were several tables open, but I noticed there weren't many servers and there were several large parties, so we waited patiently. Meanwhile my husband went inside to grab us some drinks. I had the frozen sangria which was very sweet. He had the frozen margarita, which was ok. We paid about $30 for 2 small drinks! Definitely not worth the price. The manager struck up a conversation with my husband and informed him that they offer space for private events. We waited 20 minutes outside and were being bitten by fleas and gnats. Not a huge deal, but uncomfortable. They manager then came out to tell us, "We are sorry but there was a miscommunication and we don't allow dogs here. It's a health code violation." Of course, I was upset because I had clearly mentioned our dog when we requested a table And the manager saw our dog and never mentioned anything about no pets. I was highly disappointed. The situation was inappropriately mishandled and no one offered any kind of service recovery l considered having a large event here, but it is clear that they have some work to do as far as customer service. Thanks, but no thanks. Only go here if you have time to waste, because they are very inconsiderate of your time. I want to note that we did not eat here. My sister and her husband have and they were not impressed. We had put off going here because of their food review, but I wanted to give them a chance. I totally wasted my time and I think they should post at their door and outdoor area that pets are not allowed. I don't anticipate seeing them succeed in the restaurant business if their customer service continues to be so poor.

Yelp
Great service the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend! get the fajita and get the barbecued brussels sprouts!!

Yelp
We walked in on a random Thursday afternoon after a family funeral looking for Margaritas and bites, and we were not disappointed. There was probably 25 of us and the bartender took everyone's order with professionalism and ease. We ordered a ton of food and ended up taking over the whole bar area. Everyone was so courteous and there was no "attitude" which I always appreciate. (IYKYK). Even the new manager came over and introduced himself and asked if we needed anything. He's gathered a competent staff and it really made our lousy morning turn into a nice family gathering where we could drown our sorrows and fill our belly's! I'll definitely be back for the happy hour menu which is awesome. I recommend the Cadillac Margarita!!

Yelp
Thanks for bringing good food and a fun family restaurant to this area!! It is delicious and has such a great outdoor space.

Yelp
I ordered a couple of a la carte tacos for lunch and they were good. The salsa was also good. I don't like spicy food and it had just a slight kick which was perfect for me. Our server was friendly and efficient. The backyard play area makes this a perfect place to dine with young children, since they can play while the adults enjoy a drink and the food. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and company of good friends while we enjoyed our lunch. We'll be back!

Yelp
Incredible food! Seriously everything was sooo delish! From the free chips and salsa in the beginning to each of our food choices- we were so happy. We love central city bbqs food so we were excited to try this place by the same owners I believe. I got the smoked chicken burrito and subbed black beans instead of pinto and the flavors were perfect together!!! So so yummy! And a lot of chicken. My bf got the steak fajitas and OMG the steak was PERFECTLY cooked and amazing flavor. Good portion size too. The service was incredible! Ask for Alexa I believe her name is! Everything was out quick (granted we came at a time where it wasn't really crowded). She was super nice, attentive, and got everything right and made sure our drinks were always full. The vibes were on point as well! It would be fun to go there with family or to get a drink as well while watching a game. Highly recommend! If I had one thing to complain about- it would be the location! It's a little complicated to find but once you get it you're good. It's right behind planet fitness.

Yelp
Ok, full disclosure... I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob, what with me being married to an amazing Mexican/American Chicana who's somewhat spoiled me to fantastic homemade dishes, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to reviewing Mexican restaurants. But, I'm going to be fair in my review. First, I wouldn't categorize this places as Tex-Mex, but that doesn't in any way diminish its review points. The name points perfectly to the style of Mexican flavors you should expect: Las Cruces, and in my opinion, they did a great job of capturing some of the signature New Mexico flavors. But, more on the food later. Kudos to the wait staff... they did a great job. We were greeted by a friendly host, seated quickly, and had placed our order in less than 10 minutes. The restaurant is huge, so there was a good number of tables. We're a big group, and they handled our order with no bubbles, and from looking around at the other tables, they thrive on large groups (and they're kid friendly, too). The restaurant was clean and neat, which is a plus in our area. Chips & Salsa Excellent! The chips were fresh, and the salsa definitely tasted homemade, with the perfect amount of kick. I ate way too many of these. Entrees My Mexican bride ordered the tinga chicken enchiladas. The order was huge, with three over stuffed enchiladas. She ate about half and got a take-away bag (a good sign, coming from her). Two of my daughters split smoked pork nachos and they ate almost all of them. I was impressed that the nachos included both a queso sauce and shredded cheese (something far too often overlooked). The queso had a great smoky flavor, but nothing that overpowered the pork, which was good (not great). I had the hanger steak fajitas, which is why we decided to try the spot in the first place. I'm pretty picky about fajitas, and our family will often drive to Houston and back in the same day, just for good fajitas (the GNO isn't known for good fajitas). So, when I heard this spot was grilling up hanger steak, I'm was DOWN! The steak was excellent! Very good flavor, and grilled perfectly to just under medium. I squeezed a lime over the skillet, and they were perfect! The green chili rice was good, although not what most people would expect from a Louisiana Mexican joint, but very flavorful. I had the pinto beans, and they were more ranchero style, with a great bacon flavor (thanks to the chunks of bacon), and great for dipping and/or spreading. One of daughters had the chicken fajitas, and the cook and flavor were great! It's easy to dry out grilled chicken, and they succeeded in serving great juicy flavor. The only negative I have for the fajitas were the tortillas. While they weren't your typical store-bought, they're definitely not house made. Both the steak and chicken would've gone to another level if Abuela had been there hand rolling some flour and corn tortillas. The guacamole is another negative. While it didn't taste bad, it wasn't fresh (the color was already browning), and I suspect it's not made in-house. The pico was also not freshly prepped, which was obvious from the dull colors. I didn't try it, so I can't speak to the flavor. All this said, my fam left full, and no one was complaining, so kudos for that! In a town not known for having good Mexican flare, this is a step in the right direction. I'm glad we have a new spot to try, and I'm hoping this joint makes it!

Yelp
If customer service is important to you, definitely give this place a visit! The hostess was so welcoming and friendly when we walked in. Our server Payton was clearly a service industry PRO as well as the manager on duty (didn't catch his name). They were attentive and so receptive to the feedback we gave them about our meals. Don't get me wrong-food was great! But they were still very interested in how they could improve regardless, as this is a relatively new place. Queso and guac (the 2 staples I judge every TexMex place) were perfect! The specialty margarita Payton recommended (again..can't remember the name) is now my favorite marg in the city which means a lot coming from me bc I can be a bit snobbish about margaritas. I recommend you get it with salt instead of sugar. Wish I took a picture of it before I guzzled it down because it was just as pretty as it was delicious. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I went recently for a birthday party. The place is huge. Kudos to the owner of doing something with this easily forgotten about piece of land. It's got a large outdoor space. I notice a lot of kids out side. There is a separate party room inside. There was a taco station set up for us and we had a dedicated bartender to serve us margaritas and soft drinks. While the tacos were good (and the tortillas are probably some of the best in the city), the rice and beans are not what you think of when you think TexMex rice and beans. The rice was ok, but not what I want with my tacos. The beans are more boracho style than refried, but also not what you think of when you think boracho beans. Granted we had batch margaritas for us, but they were too sweet for my liking. Speaking of the tortillas, I just called during their stated business hours to see if they sell them and I got a "we're closed" message. That can't be good for business. Also, I do wish they had something to absorb a little sound in the party room. It was very loud in there and not in a good way. I could hardly hear people that were sitting at the same table as me. I'll give them another change since they just opened, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Yelp
I was so excited for this place, but I was disappointed. But let's start with the good. The place looks great! Is very ample, looks modern and has a great outdoor space. The service is great from greeting to service, they are very attentive and fast. But yikes the food was a disappointment! I order the enchiladas (combo) 1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 cheese. The enchilada sauce tasted like marinara, the beans were Ok but not Tex and most definitely not Mex. My husband had the quesadilla with pulled pork. His was also neither here nor there... the cheese tasted like the Mexican cheese mix that you get from the grocery that is really not Mexican. There was no spice and none of it was nice. But if you like average food, that is plain and expected; then this will be a good place for you. Which is OK! This is a place for people who like very basic dishes (meat and potatoes kind of basic) But if you have ever been to Mexico and expected something else... even if it was via the Texas border then skip this place. To round this up the bar looks really cool and the cocktails sounded fun. I had the Hibiscus Paloma and as with the rest of the meal it disappointed... most of it was just soda that killed any resemblance of flavor and was another item with no taste. So no! I will not be coming back and was very disappointed with the good

Yelp
Unimpressed. After seeing some great reviews for the restaurant on FB, I decided to bring my wife there yesterday and have a relaxing lunch. Seriously, I was not impressed and though the food was ok, it is not a restaurant we will return to. First, nicely decorated and very, very clean. We were greated at the door and shown to our table. The chairs were simple metal, probably inexpensive, easy to clean but not the most comfortable after thirty minutes of sitting. Second, chips and salsa, excellent but it would be nice to have a more spicey salsa option than the sweet they had. I liked it, but not everyone does and my wife, being from Venezuela, would have liked something a bit more spicey. Now, the drinks, simply put, a bit small for the price. The cadillac margarita was excellent, but in my opinion, for the price, too small. Next, the food. I had the brisket fajitas and my wife the Carne Asada. Both well cooked, well prepared and good presentation, but just lacked flavor. My wife and I both agreed the food was simply bland. Everyone is different. One person might love this place, another not. That's business. When we go to a Mexican restaurant, we are expecting our food to be full of great flavor and spices, to pop, to be different than just bland food and yesterday, 2/23, maybe that particular chef, we were definitely not impressed and had a lackluster meal.

Yelp
If you go ask for Jill!! 5 star service from her. She gives you a very honest opinion about the menu and won't steer you wrong. She checked on us regularly and the entire staff overall was very pleasant. The second reason for 5 stars are the HANGER Steak fajitas and only the fajitas. Very well seasoned. They came out sizzling over a juicy bed of peppers and onions. For $31 you get three fresh flour tortillas, beans and rice, a small serving of pico, guac, and sour cream. It was totally worth it. My husband tried the happy hour smoke chicken street taco. First of all it's not "street" it's very gringo. Street tacos consist of corn tortilla, choice of meat, onions and cilantro. Their street taco came "dressed" with lettuce, tomato, cheese on flour tortilla. The restaurant is decorated wonderfully with painted walls and spacious seating indoor and out. Be warned they may close the outdoor seating until termite season has ended. The frozen margaritas were flavorful but definitely lacking quality tequila. My husband liked his house margarita with tajin rim so I may try that and the smoked wings next time.

Yelp
This is the real deal. This is real Tex Mex. It's the right beans. Perfect rice. Chips galore and warm. The salsa is fresh everyday. It says "hello" on the first bite and builds to a sweet medium. It's amazing. This place a mash up between great smoked meats and great Mexican food. The brisket is one of the top three in south Louisiana. The pulled pork is smoked, pulled and piled to perfection. The chorizo! Aye yi yiiiii! Get it! I could go on and on.... The soup is spot on. Service is perfectly paced with a visit from the manager/owner. The right touch. The tres leche bread pudding! Wow! A new version of bread pudding for me and it is delicious. I will be back soon. Maybe Taco Tuesday: I am told this is a great time to test the range of all of the smoked meats on one tray!! One suggestion and not a complaint: add a ten pull draft beer unit to the bar and take your offerings of local draft to the level we love in South Louosiana: so many great new local small breweries!

Yelp
This place was recommended by a coworker! The service was phenomenal. Jill was so kind and a great server. The establishment was clean (everything is brand new) manager sat us and gave us a little history on the place. He was very kind too. Bartender was sweet. The house Margarita was okay. I was not a fan of it. They use an orange base I think and it just wasn't for me. My friend got the tacos and they were delicious! Hit the spot for her!I got the burrito and I was okay. I wish I got the tacos. It's Tex mex food so I didn't expect much but the people working there deserve a 5/5 stars! Food and drinks 3/5

Yelp
We went here for lunch. It's a big place and has a lot of seating inside and some outside under patio cover. We were seated and served quickly. We were served chips with salsa at the table. We ordered Nachos with pork and Burrito with vegetables. One meal (burrito) came with a small amt of pico de gallo and a small amt of guacamole. The other dish (nachos with pork) had sour cream and guacamole dollops on top. Everything was hot and tasted good. My only disappointment was the guacamole and the pico de galló. The guac wasn't very good, and the pico de gallo was soggy... not fresh? The atmosphere was okay - casual and very spacious place. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. We will give it a try again in a few months.

Yelp
Angellle was great. Very attentive. Margaritas incredible. Get the Cadillac spicy with guava. Everything else ok. I had the taco salad with flank steak and BF had stuffed poblano pepper with chicken. We did start with the shrimp ceviche and a chorizo queso. Beans were a bit smoky for me and the rice was blah. Might come back for the margaritas

Yelp
"Underwhelming experience at Las Cruses,Overpriced, lacking authenticity, and felt like a fancy Taco Bell. Not worth the hype. 1/5 stars" Didn't even have aguas frescas

Yelp
Came here with a friend. I was looking forward to it because I really like their barbecue place. The chips and salsa were delicious. The waitress was attentive. The food was above average. That's about all I can say.

Yelp
My review certainly was not a fake one. I had a bad experience. Service was great, food was awful. Edit from my first post: "everything about this place is awful" I meant food wise, not service or ambiance.

Yelp
I came here for the first time with my family and I really liked it. As soon as you walk in you can notice how clean it is and the ambiance is bright and spacious. I could see into the kitchen from a doorway and inside it was so organized and clean and there were tons of fresh tomatoes and jalapeños on a rack so that is always nice to see too. The beans and chicken tortilla soup have a very smoky taste to them which is not my preference and I wasn't crazy about them, but my brother really enjoyed them, and everything else was great. The ingredients were high quality and the salad was huge, with a ton of guacamole, and delicious steak. The service was great too!

Yelp
On a Saturday, I was driving home from doing an errand in the area and noticed a sign saying this place was open, so I stopped in for lunch. Everything seemed very clean inside and nicely decorated. I got the burrito and it was HUGE and very good. They brought a little machine to the table for me to pay, and I left. The next day, I decided to check it out again since I enjoyed the first visit. I got the fajitas, which were smokin' hot and very good. There was something just off about the meat, so despite having a lot left, I did not want to bring it home. The waitress dropped the bill at the table, I put my card inside and waited. She dropped off the payment slip and I did not even notice she had not left my card for me. I signed and went about my business. It wasn't until I went to pay at my next stop did I realize she had not given the card back to me. So I had to come all of the way back to get it. All three times I came in, I was nicely greeted. When she brought my card to me, she said she forgot I had used a card. Really? You just forgot? I wonder why they don't always use the little machine they brough my first visit.

Yelp
I have been wanting to eat here for a while. Finally made it there today. First off, the building is huge and impeccably clean. Service was good. Our waitress was attentive, but not overly interrupting. So that was pleasant. The food. I expected so much more. Chips were warm, but overly salted. We found ourselves wiping them on a napkin before dipping in the salsa, which was decent. Not overly spicy like some Mexican restaurants. My husband's burger was good, and the fries were the best thing we got with both meals. I ordered the enchiladas with the ground meat. The meal came out, and it looked delicious. I started by eating the green chili rice, and it was just weird. Not what I expect from a Mexican restaurant, even if it was Tex-Méx. But I did eat a few more bites. Has a strong taste of cumin in it. I didn't eat the beans, simply because I don't like them. The enchiladas, on the other hand, I would never recommend ordering unless you really like spicy. There was lots of melted cheese, and not overly covered with red sauce. But the ground beef, holy moly. I'm just glad we didn't have our grandchildren with us because we probably would have let them order the ground beef in their tacos. It was Just way overly pepper hot. I managed to eat a half of one before I had to stop. Thank goodness for a cold drink and even overly salted chips to cut the burn. I'm really not sure if I would eat here again. Sorry to be negative!

Yelp
I really wish Las Cruces would succeed, but after repeated visits over the years since its opening, the only consistency has been inconsistency. When the restaurant first opened, the food was fine- nothing amazing- but the venue, kid friendliness, and fast and friendly service made it a good option for a quick school night dinner. We've watched as the food offerings vary widely in taste and quality with issues ranging from super soggy, oily meats, undercooked rice and/or beans, margaritas that taste completely different each time, and significant seasoning issues (salty to the point of being inedible). The service has declined dramatically as well, with one visit on a visibly slow week night resulting in us waiting over an hour for food. What's most concerning is the aggressive responses from the owner, rather than a receptiveness to constructive criticism. A quick check of reviews on Google, Facebook, Yelp, etc. feature responses from the owner that reveal his almost obsessive tendency to review restaurant footage to challenge negative reviews (using it to argue about the external color of a burger a diner stated was undercooked is just one example). Perhaps realizing that his own perception is not always how his customer's experience might help improve the quality of his business. To be candid, we were indeed approached by the owner on one of our last several visits, which were not great, and asked for feedback, but to be totally honest, we in no way felt we could provide verbal feedback knowing how abrasively he responds online. I sincerely wish the owner would do a bit of introspection. As much as we want Las Cruces to succeed as its target demographic- parents of young children living in the neighborhood- we don't see Las Cruces surviving in the long term without a significant re-evaluation of the restaurant's success and its leadership.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Very friendly and courteous. The manager came by the table to check on us. Appears customer service is top priority. Food was ok but very expensive. $7 fish taco and that is just the taco, no sides. It was good maybe 4 out 5. I got a side of grilled veggies for $6 which was so sad. Mostly onions and grilled to mush served in a very small container. $4 ice tea is absurd especially since it tasted like tinted water. I was never offered a refill, not sure if they are free. My friend got a cheese enchilada and a taco. She asked for chopped onions on the side. It came in a condiment cup for 60 cents! We split a small quacamole for $10, which was the best thing we ate. Expensive but they give you a big serving. It filled a soup bowl, too big for a small order honestly. Food was a 3.75, service was a 5. What I absolutely don't like is the waiter will come to your table with his trusty little machine and tell you how much you owe. I asked if I could see a receipt and he said he can bring it back with my change, which he did. But I very much dislike this method of paying before looking at the receipt. Honest mistakes happen and why wouldn't you want to see an itemization beforehand? I was also told by the manager that they are very family friendly for dinner. The place is huge indoors and out and she said it will be full of small children running around freely. It is geared towards families with games in the outdoor space. Thank goodness we were there at lunch. I doubt I would return, the value doesn't work for me.

Yelp
We enjoyed great food and service today. We were greeted and seated immediately, the restaurant is clean and spacious, and our server was so great! I am from the southwest and there aren't many Tex Mex options in the South, so this was really a treat. Loved the salsa and queso and we all enjoyed our entrees. The steak burrito is so good!

Yelp
Chicken tacos and steak fajitas were great! The fish taco was awful. Both me and my fiance couldn't eat it. Queso was decent. Very clean restaurant and great service. Will be back!

Yelp
We visited Las Cruces Tex Mex for my Texan wife's birthday and found it exceptional. The bar was set high from the beginning with great queso and margaritas, and it was followed through with fantastic entrees. I ordered combo chicken and brisket fajitas and found them both juicy and seasoned just right. The beans and rice had great flavor, too. My wife loved her brisket enchiladas. We closed out with sopapillas as a birthday treat and they were a delight. Our waitress Candace was great and never left us waiting. The place is clean and spacious and it felt very comfortable to be there. We'll definitely be back; if the food is consistently this great then we've found our new go-to spot for Mexican food.

Yelp
Our first time there. We went for an early dinner so it was pretty dead when we started. Big dinning room, lots of tables. Hostess was very polite and showed us to our table. Waitress was very attentive. As soon as we sat down we were brought a bucket of tortilla chips and salsa. Both excellent. Started with the Queso with beef. It was served quickly and it was very good. Girlfriend ordered the chicken fajitas, I had the combo enchiladas. Again, the food was very good and very large. While dining the Manager personally visited our table, and welcomed us. You don't see that anymore. Later while having an after dinner drink at the bar, the chef also came by to see how our dinner was. Nice touch. The menu does not have a huge selection, but we had no problem finding something we wanted. Highly recommend! P. S. The food is not cheap. It is worth it the price, but not inexpensive. We will be back.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Horrible service all around. Not even half full and staff wandering around. Manager walking around talking on her phone. Food poor. Drinks horrible. Won't return.

Yelp
Had a group of 36 there last night. Preplanned menu but not terribly restricted. People had all sorts of choices, and we started with one appetizer after another after another - it was a ton of food at a very reasonable price! Everything was delicious and the service was tremendous. Kudos to Catie and the team who worked so hard to put on the event!

Yelp
Our bartender Sammie was phenomenal. He welcomed us with a smile and was so well knowledged in bartending as well as the menu. He did not keep us waiting at all despite being the only bartender at the time. My soup came out at a cool temperature and Sammie quickly requested the manager to fix it for me before I could finish my compliant. Thank you Sammie! We will be back!

Yelp
Love this family friendly restaurant! the food was great for a chilly day-tortilla soup hit the spot! Service was excellent, a great amount of attention was given to ensure we had what we needed. would definitely return!

Yelp
The food is very good. The9 draft beer is pricy cant remember when i've paid that much for draft beer. The metal chairs are geared toward small frame people. I was uncomfirtable the whole time. No consideration for the large people. Could have 2 large size chairs at each table and some against the wall to use as needed. Not sure i'd rush back anytime soon.

Yelp
I have been to Las Cruces a few times with me boys. We have gone before and after sports games. It works perfect for 12 year olds because they have an outside turf area where they can play. Plus, the food is great!

Apathy ..

Yelp
No chips at all, the bag just had the cup of salsa in it. Happened 3 out of the 6 times I got food from here.

Yelp

Yelp
The hostess, Olivia is amazing. The food was really good but a bit pricey but so is everywhere else. Not crazy about the rice pinto beans but that's just personal. Would like to see a choice of refried beans. Will definitely recommend and will return.
