Las Delicias de la Abuela is a casual restaurant serving great comfort Columbian food. It is located in Doraville, next to the Buford Highway Farmers Market. It is a mile from the Dorvaille MARTA station, (but you can also take the 124, 35, 20, or 10B buses).
Las Delicias de la Abuela has the casual vibe of a family reunion, even equipped with picnic tables. There are televisions everywhere, and I understand live music. I was greeted and seated immediately. Food and beverages came out very quickly. The staff were extremely friendly, happy to make recommendations on food and beverages, and forgiving of my awkward Spanish skills.
Maleja recommended the blackberry juice, Carne de la Parrilla (grilled skirt steak), and passionfruit mousse, and I added an order of arepas. The blackberry juice was tasty and not too sweet. I took it home, and it mysteriously disappeared before I could reopen the refrigerator (apparently my husband enjoyed it as well).
The Carne a la Parrilla was perfectly prepared, very juicy, and flavorful. It was so cravable, I ate the whole thing with no regrets. The steak came with two sides, and I selected the salad and sweet plantains. The salad, which was actually guacamole, was surprisingly tasty. The avocado was mild and creamy and well blended with lime juice, tomatoes, and onions. I don't eat guacamole. But I tore this up! The plaintains were good, but other items were memorable. The arepas reminded me of a circular, not as sweet, version of a corn cake my Granny used to make. The passion fruit mousse is for those with a sweet tooth. But it was super tangy and creamy (another dish I didn't mean to completely finish but I couldn't stop eating it).
I can't wait to go back, as I want to come for breakfast. There are also so many lunch and dinner items I want to try, including the empanadas and margaritas.
