Atlanta Restaurants: A Fire at Cheshire Bridge Road Restaurant Las Margaritas Ruled Arson - Eater Atlanta

"It appears arson is to blame for a fire that ravaged Latin restaurant and bar Las Margaritas on Monday, August 9, according to the AJC. The early evening blaze was first reported as a grass fire. However, when Atlanta Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene, they found flames shooting through the roof of the restaurant and on the patio. Firefighters managed to quickly knock the fire out, but the building sustained substantial damage. Las Margaritas was typically closed on Mondays. No one was injured. Owned by Oscar Valdivieso and his mother, Marta, Las Margaritas has been a staple on Cheshire Bridge Road for over 20 years, serving a range of Mexican to Colombian dishes on its menu. A longtime advocate and supporter of Atlanta’s LGBTQ community, the restaurant employed many people from within that community and regularly hosted and sponsored events, groups, and sports leagues." - Beth McKibben

Las Margaritas is such a beautiful restaurant! From the moment you walk in, the décor and atmosphere make you feel welcome. The ambience is lively with great music, and the service is excellent—attentive and very helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, with each dish presented beautifully. We ordered the paella for two, and it was more than enough to satisfy three people. Overall, an amazing dining experience that I would definitely recommend!

If you're looking for flavorful, authentic Mexican food served in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Las Margaritas is a great choice. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with friendly service. The menu is packed with traditional favorites and a few unique house specialties that are worth exploring. The margaritas (as the name promises) are strong, refreshing, and come in a variety of flavors. The portions are generous, prices are fair, and the chips and salsa are addictive. Whether you're there for a casual dinner or a lively night out, Las Margaritas offers an experience that feels both festive and satisfying. Highly recommended for anyone craving a reliable, delicious Mexican meal.

Such a cool, unique spot! So glad I came across this place while visiting ATL. The food and drinks were delicious, reasonably priced, and the presentation was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.

This place is an 11/10. We showed up. Immediately seated (it’s a hidden gem). Impeccable decoration. Brittany was our server, she was kind and FAST. We went on a Thursday and got $5 mixed drinks. FIVE DOLLARS. They brought it out with a smoky cover like a $100 drink. So they make you feel SPECIAL. Tacos $3 on Thursdays okay, can’t friggen beat that. Anyways I’m writing this review a bit tipsy since they gave us a free shot on the house (the place was empty, don’t go asking for it). AND they didn’t even ask for a review. I’m just here, a humble foodie, to tell you this place deserves 6 stars. Thank you and good night.

If you want a fully immersive experience with top tier decor and curated dining, this is the place for you!! The food was great, and every single part of the meal had all the extras- margaritas presented with flare, food presentation was lovely, even our check came in a fancy box!

Google
I do not recommend this restaurant if you're expecting any level of good service or food. From the outside, it looks to be a nice establishment, complete with complimentary valet. The exterior is appealing, and the guy running the valet seemed nice. Our first issue was trying to get inside— the two front doors are completely covered by fake flower strings, obstructing the entrance entirely. We had to search for the entrance, and as soon as we got inside, three different people rudely told us to give them a moment. We asked not to be seated near the DJ, which was blaring music, and it felt like playing musical chairs with the way the staff failed to accommodate us until we corrected them repeatedly. The decor is extremely loud and overwhelming, covering every inch of surface available. Even the bathroom hallway is covered in string flowers, obstructing any signage (of which there is none, just a picture of Frida Kahlo to differentiate the bathrooms). The inside of the bathroom is a sensory nightmare, with wall to wall paintings of famous people and a "teach me how to learn Spanish" audio playing loudly on repeat. If I had not been warned beforehand, I would have been terrified to hear a man in the bathroom— which the translator was. Once seated, the tables were tiny and crammed full of unnecessary decoration that we had to remove to be able to comfortably sit. Our waitress attended to us three times while we were there, which was jarring because the table next to us— who knew the owner and told us so— was waited on hand and foot, receiving free dessert and having every need attended to. Meanwhile, we had sporadic service and no water refills. The food itself was not good. We got $3 tacos for Taco Thursday, and they were bland and small in portion with overwhelming garnishes. We also ordered the dip trio, which had no flavor. Another table across the room ordered fajitas, and they have no ventilation, so smoke filled the entire restaurant and made my eyes sting. Upon leaving, the valet attendant was nowhere to be found. We had to go into the UNLOCKED and BROKEN valet cabinet to get our keys, and our car was not locked, which is a safety hazard. The valet never returned before we left. I am extremely disappointed and will never go back. It was an awful experience.

I am not sure what to make of this restaurant. They just opened after been closed for few years. Service and food was very good, but place is very heavily decorated, very busy to the eye. Cant tell if they want to be a bar, a restaurant, or a lounge. Music was played fairly loud at times, and among the genres, reggaeton, not what I would expect from a latin/mexican restaurant, when there is such a great variety of tasteful latin music, from baladas to salsa/merinque. My margarita was well prepared ,refreshing. For main course I ordered the Cuban Ropa VIeja; tasty and flavorful. Not sure if we will patronize this establishment again, not sure who do they want to target as their main audience.

Yelp
Have not been here since it reopened and wish I had known what an experience it was. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. Very attentive but not intrusive Oh wow the ambiance! So hard to describe like entering and explosion of silk flowers and vines. Colorful exotic Way over the top and lots of fun Food is excellent The margaritas arrive in smoke bells The paella was amazing and chocked full of seafood Portions are large Definitely planning on going back

Yelp
This was our first time going back to Las Margaritas after it was closed for a few years due to a fire. The experience was fairly good, servers also nice but inexperienced but the highlight was the very tasty food. However, the music in the patio area was SO loud, you absolutely could not have a conversation. If I went back I would sit inside for sure.

Yelp
Las Margaritas has returned with a new renovation, incredible menu and specialty margaritas and bar that are impressive . Papi will make your experience something to remember !!!

Yelp
This place was absolutely incredible. Our server, Brittany was super kind and fast. First of all the place is gorgeous. Giant Celia Cruz painting as you walk in. I'm writing this review a bit tipsy since the servers were kind enough to gift us with a shot on the house (the place was empty, don't go asking for this). Truly a hidden gem and the best Mexican restaurant in Atlanta.

Yelp
I love the food, service and ambience here. The menu has a wide range of Latin delicacies. So happy this place is back.

Yelp
From the service, to the food, to the ambience - everything was incredible. can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Wow! What a turn around from before the fire. They have done a great job with the decor, menu, food and service! You will love the magic they present when you order a margarita! This should become the next gay Sunday Funday or Friday night out spot!!!

Mallory G.

Yelp
The most delicious Latin American food in Atlanta. Bar none. It is so good, and such a vibe inside! We'll def be back; this place is such a hidden gem!

Yelp
The pros... great outside seating area, extensive food and drink menu. Tacos were a la carte and they were very good! I had a seafood taco, a cuban taco (ropa vieja), carne asada and Argentinian taco. Cuban was my favorite. The cons: they have taco Tuesdays advertised on their website and on their menus but they are not honoring those specials now so the tacos were kinda pricey full price The margaritas were still on special but very weak. The elote corn was decent but needed more cheese. All in all I give it 3/5. I would go back if they have $2 Tuesday again.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 2 stars for the music. The music was pretty good and set the mood for Sunday brunch. Unfortunately, nothing else was that good. It took forever for drinks to come out. I got there late and my friends were still waiting for the drinks they ordered 20 minutes prior. The buffet food didn't look that great so I ordered off the menu. Our waitress was nice but didn't seem to know the names of the dishes. I ordered the Carne Asada but I had to point it out on the menu so she knew which one it was. The steak itself was flavorful but the black beans tasted like they just opened the can and put it in the bowl. They had absolutely no flavor at all. My Cuban Bitch Mojito came out and the drink was so weak I ordered an extra shot of rum to add to it. This was the complaint most of my friends had. On top of that, there was so much mint that wasn't chopped or muddled that it kept getting clogged in the straw and it was a pain to drink. The music was good but I don't think I'll be back

Yelp
I felt like I was back In Miami. I had really missed the good Cuban food there. Now I know where to go to get my fix. I got some steak which was more Peruvian ( I miss that food from Miami too), my husband enjoyed some tostones. It is a cute place with lots of porch space for sitting out side in the shade. It is very comfortable with the ceiling fans, a colorful fun place. A party sitting next to us ordered some fish bowl drinks. There was candy in them and they looked delicious, and dangerous (in a good way). Maybe next time!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this restaurant. The frozen margaritas were strong and delicious. I love my enchiladas so much that I came back the next day for a quesadilla and another mid-day margarita. I will be back....
google avatar

Yelp
Visited on a Tuesday evening but there was no wait. We were seated in their covered patio area. Depending on the time of day, I'm sure it can get warm under there but they do have fans going. It took a while to establish our waiter but once that happened we quickly ordered our food. I got the BLT Tacos that have fried chicken and my friend and I shared the bowl pictured. It's pretty strong so I suggest sharing if driving. They will give you a togo cup for your drink too. I loved the decor on each table and the taste of the food. Would definitely return!

Yelp
After an afternoon run in the heat we were hungry for a little Latin food and waltzed right in here. Just in time because thunder showers commenced as soon as we parked. Many of the menu choices have a flair for Cuban food which brought us back to our lives in Miami. I immediately orders tostones, and was very happy to savor them. Of course, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a ropa vieja sandwich even though I was tempted by the Cuban sandwich too. We ordered a couple of margaritas, for fun. Seated in the enclosed outdoor area we could see the rain poring outside without getting wet. It's very colorful with flags and lively decorations. You really feel like dancing here. Some of the other drinks we saw had rainbow lollipops which the table next to us ordered. Crazy fun. There are quite a few options I could have ordered but didn't get to, can only fill your tummy so much. We had a great time here, and look forward to our next.

Yelp
I like this spot because there always a free and lite feeling in the air , when u step in the have a festive Mexican flair. Ambiance equipped with candles and Mexican incense that prompts joy and good spirits the food here from past experiences has been really good .... last visit I wasn't too crazy about the mussels although I appreciate the natural taste of my food especially seafood I also like it to be properly seasoned. The broth that it came in as u can see are kinda soupy and watery (kinda made me ask the waiter if that is normally how it's served or was it rush) I would've ate dinner but the app took me off the course of meal. I can't complain too much because my cocktail was amazing . Bartender had spunk was fast and very accommodating. Everyone here is very friendly and open this is truly and awesome spot for date nights and pregame drinks before heading out .

Yelp
Got into Atlanta at 3pm, checked in and was hungry. Our Airbnb host recommended this place and it was close by plus we love Mexican/Latin food! The menu was huge! I got a frozen mango margarita and it was quite strong. We ordered a bunch of stuff, the Argentine taco was amazing with chimichurri sauce. Get the steak empanada! It was delicious! I would get the empanada over arepa. The dips were good and the queso they have was flavourful. The steak sizzling plate was very very good as well. Comes with warm tortilla too. We enjoyed everything we got and wish we could've tried more on the menu!
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service. They have a vegetarian menu upon request. I had the vegetarian flautas. Presentation was nice, but the mashed potatoes had no seasoning. I also had the spinach empanada. The sauce served with it was not good; however the empanada was. The Papi supreme dip was great. Tres Leches had a weird flavor-was not a fan. I would return to explore their vegetarian options.

Yelp
This past Saturday, Nov. 23rd, I celebrated by 75th birthday with a private party on the patio at Las Margaritas....too put it bluntly, in 3/4 of a century this was by far my best birthday ever. Oscar and his staff went over the top. The room was beautiful with the torch heaters and white table cloths. They provided us with the most fantastic DJ, who knew just when to tone it down and just when to crank it up. And of course the food was sensational as always. Toward the end they even provided us with tequila shots with tomato juice chasers. If you ever want to do a Latin theme party, you should not even consider any alternative. They do it good, they do it fun! GRACIAS! GRACIAS! GRACIAS!

Yelp
I used to come here quite a bit but then moved offices and it wasn't on the rotation. Last week I was in the mood for Mexican food and decided to go back and try it. I was not disappointed. The decor was very nice and homey and the staff was warm and welcoming. I went for lunch and I am not sure how you can go wrong with unlimited chips and salsa and the "pick three" from the menu. Great presentation and Jazmin took great care of me. Definitely go!
google avatar

Ariane B.

Yelp
The atmosphere is fun I guess and you can tell the people who work here are very sweet. I'd say go here for a fishbowl if you want to get messed up, but the food is nothing to write home about. Doesn't matter your level of cooking skill, you can definitely make something better at home. Took ages for my food to come out, my friend's plate came out about 11 minutes before mine, the drink took forever. My order was wrong. I didn't even have the heart to tell the poor girl who was my server. My friend ate two bites of their bland soggy food and gave up. Definitely a wasted date night. Didn't even try the hookah. No A/C btw

Yelp
Cool spot located near Colonnades restaurant on Clairmont. It has fun and unique decor with a centrally located bar. I went on a Saturday evening around 6pm and got seated immediately. The chicken quesadilla was great. I ordered my chicken fajita style and it comes with sour cream, gauc, salad, and tasty sauce drizzles ( I believe they are aiolis of some kind lol!) Damn tasty. They don't offer the usual Mexican restaurant combos and some items have to be ordered a la carte which is a bit annoying. I also got a big ass Margarona which def got the job done! Pretty pricey though ($19) considering I've had similar style drinks for around $12/13 at other places. The service was subpar and nothing special. There is free parking located in the back of the restaurant. It isn't a large lot but from what I've seen this place doesn't get too busy so no need to Uber/Lyft. Overall I enjoyed the food and will visit again.
google avatar

Brittany G.

Yelp
I'm only giving this restaurant two stars because the food was terrible and the service was bad. The waitress was in a rush hardly stayed to get our order, she was moving that fast. I asked for salt and never received it. Food was tasteless. However The music was lit and ambiance was pretty cool for a young vibe. I would
google avatar

Felicia L.

Yelp
Went in on a busy Friday night and the host let us know it would be a long wait or we could sit at the bar. Bar was empty so we sat there. Bartender was BUSY but was very friendly and very very cool. We got our drinks quickly and food too. The food was better than I thought it would be. Got a fishbowl and could never finish. Bartender took pics and was just amazing. Parking is freeeee so that's a plus. I will most definitely be back.
google avatar

Joy H.

Yelp
This restaurant sucks... We waited two hours and still didn't get a waiter to take our order. The only guy that was awesome was the bus boy Reditt.
google avatar

Rosa B.

Yelp
I had an awesome time ! Ennio is an amazing bartender & waitress! He was attentive, nice and entertaining. I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Awesome environment! Great food and drinks! Our server, Montse, was very helpful. She gave great recommendations. I loved the impossible empanada and the mama's shrimp taco the most. My husband gave the chicken empanada and the mama's shrimp taco rave reviews. My aunt said her chicken fajita taco and chicken quesadilla was delicious. The best part was the free shots!
google avatar

Coryn M.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The food here is revolting and unpalatable. I ordered a mole chicken taco and eloté with sangria. The sangria tasted like old boxed wine (not the current hip trend kind..) and the food was so bad I couldn't eat but a couple of bites. The mole was some kind of weird salsa poured over chicken and the corn's mayonnaise was sticky sweet. There was a terrible smell in the restaurant towards the end of our meal. Some kind of scented cleaner that smelled like they poured it all over our table and caused us to rush out there door. Bonus, the few bites of food made me incredibly sick. Stay away.
google avatar

Pamela P.

Yelp
I made an order via DoorDash, with an estimated delivery of 40-50 mins. 50 mins after the order was made, it hadn't been completed and when I called my delivery driver, he said he was still waiting for the order. Furthermore, he said the employees weren't helpful to him and wouldn't give him a proper wait time. When I finally received the order, 1 1/2 hours after it was ordered (which was not the fault of my delivery driver), multiple items were missing, the food was cold, and the arepas were soggy. My driver came to me as soon as he picked up the order, so it shouldn't have been cold and soggy. Usually I enjoy an order from here, but today's order was extremely disappointing.
google avatar

Emma H.

Yelp
With a really interesting menu with multiple Latin influences, this isn't your standard Mexican restaurant. Expect the usual cheese dip and guacamole but with really good salsas - lots to choose from. The service is great, too - well informed wait staff with great suggestions and frequent check-ins. We were really well looked after by Shanay. The only downside for me were the weak margaritas and the temperature of the food, which was a little lukewarm when it got to us. However, it may have been a bad day, so I'll definitely be returning to try some more delicious Latin food soon.
google avatar

Taylor L.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! They have a variety of tacos to choose from. On Tuesday, the tacos are only 2 bucks whereas the margs are 5. Such a steal for the quality of the food. The bartender is very welcoming and the service is good. Be careful with takeout orders, they've gotten mine incorrect, but happily fixed it twice. My favorite taco is the chihuahua.
google avatar

William G.

Yelp
The tacos are excellent and danie is a fantastic server and her drink beverage knowledge is out of this world she really made my night highly recommend it this was a great experience that I wont forget

Yelp
If you couldn't tell by my last review, brunch holds a special place in my heart because it is my ideal atmosphere; I'm drinking pretty and delicious drinks, filling my belly with everything I'm not supposed to eat during the week and catching up with the girls. As much as I love it though, let's be clear: it is not an inexpensive hobby. So when I see a brand who does brunch right, it makes my heart happy. I love Las Margaritas because they do brunch right. For $22, you can enjoy an all you can eat buffet of mixed Hispanic and American cuisine as well as all you can drink mimosas. The brunch buffet includes fresh mixed fruit, pancakes/waffles/omelets made to order, Hispanic rice and chicken, red skin breakfast potatoes, tamales, and more. From the drink menu you can choose from various flavored mimosas, bloody Marias and a perfectly blended, fruit filled sangria. To top it all off, the patio dining experience is undeniably fun and interactive. From bubbly waitresses wearing full mariachi gowns to the free rounds of tequila shots brought out compliments of our waiter, having a good time here is no question. I have yet to find a brunch spot in Indianapolis that encompasses all you can eat food and drinks for a steal + a poppin' but low-key atmosphere but clearly Atlanta has it figured out. Whenever I'm in the peach state, I know where I'm headed on Sunday mornings at 11.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
The atmosphere was nice the margaritas were excellent and for $5!!!!! The food was ok the meat lacked seasoning but the rice and beans were good After adding sour cream and cheese the meat mixed with the rice and beans was good Pretty coo place
google avatar

Nye H.

Yelp
This place was so amazing! I was looking for a brunch spot with bottomless mimosas and hookah! I'm so glad I found this place. The customer service was great! I really felt valued. Not to mention the food! I've been telling every one about this place! Definitely go go go!
google avatar

Taneisha T.

Yelp
Dear Vegans, the jackfruit isn't good. My sister and I thought the organic pitcher margarita was decent but there were roaches dancing across the bar as we were leaving... .. ... .. Next question.
google avatar

C. R.

Yelp
Terrible service! My party of 4 sat around waiting for over an hour and no help. They are so unorganized and no system to Getting people seated and served. They have no idea what they are doing. Management needs to be fired or trained. We sat For over an hour not one person came up to us while we were sitting at our table. Then they had a party that came in after us seated And orders taken before us. In total we waited almost 2 hours one for a table in another 45 minutes for a waitress to know Notice us. When we told the manager she apologized but no intention to fix the issue. THEY probably paid someone to set fire to the business so they can rebuild Bc get set up and decor was a hot mess. No AC and needed a makeover.

Samuel E S.

Yelp
Jasmine provided exceptional service to my friends and I today. The food was delicious and her patience and hospitality was extremely appreciated.

LaShonda H.

Yelp
I came here for National Margarita Day! Great choice! I ended up getting the twisted margarita ($7). It was a margarita combined with sangria. There was also a pepper. Quite salty, not sure why, but it was tasty! I ordered the BLT fried chicken taco with no B on a flour tortilla. I also ordered the santa fe chicken taco on a flour tortilla ($2.95 each). I really enjoyed everything including the closed in patio. I believe they stay open late so I shall return if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Cj S.

Yelp
Hands down the best Latin Restaurant in Atlanta. Please ask for Melvin. Very friendly, quick and helpful. He recommended the Twisted Margarita (so good) and some supreme quesadillas. Both were AMAZING. Food is seasoned so well and the drinks have plenty of alcohol with amazing flavor. My girlfriend got the Puerto Rican Pina Colada and it was honestly most authentic Pina Colada ive had aside from the ones made by my family. To top it off we got shots on the house. This will definitely be a regular date night spot. If you're looking for authentic Latin cuisine with family like hospitality, this is the place to go.
google avatar

Angie J.

Yelp
Sitting out on the patio was so nice on a cool summer evening! But our waitress took about 10 minutes to come introduce herself and get drinks. The menu is vast and overwhelming, and the waitress didn't give a definitive answer when we asked what was good. I got two tacos (Chipotle taco and one that had mashed potatoes in it? Lol! $3.75 each) and my boyfriend got a chicken quesadilla ($11). Both were delicious (along with their chips and salsa which was also BOMB!). They gave my boyfriend an extra beer to apologize for our initial wait, and as we were leaving, we were offered free tequila shots with Bloody Mary chasers! Definitely made up for some shortcomings. I would come back here with a big group before a night out!
google avatar

Telly M.

Yelp
Venue: The inside is a little dark as has more of a dive bar feel, whereas the patio is more festive and open. Staff are super friendly and helpful. There is plenty of parking behind the restaurant. Vittles: You may assume it's a standard Mexican restaurant with the typical dishes. While those are offered, the menu goes far beyond that. I've had the Speedy Gonzales and the Argentinian steak. Friends have had the paella and fish. None of them have been a disappoint. In addition, they have some great cocktails, one of my faves being the Jamaican hibiscus rum drink. Verdict: For a quick convenient and laid back bite, I find it hard to eat, especially given its proximity to home.
google avatar

Cuby O.

Yelp
One of my favorites now! The bartender Nina is amazing and the owner came out and greeted us with shots, I come here a few times a week now

Clay A.

Yelp
Food is not bad. We were looking for a Mexican restaurant to take the teen age kids for Friday dinner after work. Really bad choice. If you have 5 or more, you sit out on the deck with a DJ. extremely LOUD. Uncomfortably so. The manager brought my wife and I tequila shots and a sangria chaser. If you are a twenty something and want to party in loud environment, this is for you. Sunday they have an all you can eat and drink for two hours. If you just want Mexican, skip it. NOT kid friendly
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Service = Good, Margaritas = Great, Food=Meh, Music and Atmosphere=Good This was my first time visiting Las Margaritas. I was looking for some sort of specials being that it is International Margarita Day but they didn't have any specials. There were other places in Atlanta that offered margarita specials so I was a bit disappointed that they didn't. Besides, that they drinks were good and strong. I had a house margarita on the rocks and my friend had a frozen house margarita. I enjoyed the music. The food wasn't anything to write home about. Overall, a good place for drinks, good music and pleasant customer service. Parking was good.
google avatar

Lisa Z.

Yelp
Excellent food and such a fun atmosphere! Great for lunch, dinner or even just drinks. Their margaritas are top notch. Alejandro made our lunch even more special. I definitely recommend this and we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We visited this restaurant 5/20/21 OMG Don't go we had a party of 6 it took 40 min before we got someone and let me tell you that was a RED flag food was cold and all the candy added to the darn Margarita killed it I asked for a Vegan menu and I ordered well that went to shit everything I said don't add they added more of ya ITS. hell no for me service was horrible and the food was gross
google avatar

Jackson B.

Yelp
Great place to grab a margarita (or three) at the bar or sit down for a great lunch. Service is speedy and the occasional rounds of tequila shots for the entire restaurant (happens more often than not) doesn't hurt! Owner always greets me with a smile and an occasional hug. Love this place.

Emily G.

Yelp
I am soooo disappointed!!! The first time I visited this restaurant the ambiance, food, drinks, and service were excellent. I did take-out a couple of times after and the service was great. Last Saturday I took my son to enjoy a great fun evening and we had to wait a long time to be seated eventhough only a few tables were taken. Then when we were seated the waitress finally brought us the menus. However she NEVER came back to take our order. They kept seving the other tables and totally ignored us. We finally got up and left. What's up with thaaaat????

Yelp
Great experience! Montserrat was a great server and very friendly. Great servers, food, and drinks!
