"Is anyone ever not, to some degree, in the mood for melty, meaty goodness stuffed inside a pillowy disc of lightly fried masa? As pupusas, the popular Salvadoran dish, claim more space in the American food landscape, now is as good a time as any to pay a visit to Las Palmas in South Sacramento. Like the best-kept secrets of many cities’ restaurant scenes, it’s hidden in a strip mall, and while the restaurant hasn’t posted to its Instagram page since September 2020, its high-quality pupusas prove that word of mouth really can carry a business. For the newly initiated, start with a pupusa revuelta, which has refried beans, crunchy chicharrones, and gooey cheese inside, and a queso con loroco, with cheese and an herb commonly grown across Central America." - Tamerra Griffin

I've been coming here for years but finally leaving a review. Service is great and the food's consistent! One of the few affordable and filling options still around!

Google
I've I'm coming here for over 10 years they're food is so yummy and always great. The service is great The owners are very nice, The workers are nice as well. I love that you can see them your food as you wait. It's such a nice family environment. They also have a attached store where you can buy meats and baked goods.

Áleyda Siliezar

Google
I really enjoy their soup, De Gallina. The rice they serve alongside the chicken is very tasty. Their service is great, and they're always so busy. The pupusas weren't so good to me, they tasted a bit raw, but the soup is my favorite! That's my reason to keep coming back!

Google
Great El Salvadorian tastes! Quite different than local Mexican restaurants. We went there for lunch and my wife had Revueltas Pupusas and I had a carnitas burrito. The Jamaica tea was perfect for the 100 degree day! Great service and a down-home local atmosphere.

Google
I’m not one to talk down on a business, their food is excellent, i was just unfortunately not given the pupusas de chicharon with queso that i ordered and only given pupusas with cheese only instead. Food was excellent still, just didn’t get what i originally ordered

TEO MENDEZ

Google

Fast, friendly... food is excellent

Google
I ordered my usual "take out" whole fried fish today, which is really good. And today "OMG"!!! SO DISCUSSING!!! This fish was old to the core and dry with no flavor, about the skin "YUK"!!! I am so disappointed, $20 down the drain. I will never go back again. Sal I hope you read my complaint. I honored you guys for years, not any more. So not happy.

Yelp
We love this place! Not only is the food delicious but the restaurant owners are genuinely good people. We used them to cater some beans and plantains for my son's multicultural fair at his elementary school. My husband held an El Salvador table. Ronald was very helpful and generous. They lent us a hot food bin that kept all the food hot, which was very helpful. Because this was to benefit kids, they were very generous and donated 4 trays of baked goods. That was soooo nice of them. Please consider them for all your catering needs or just to get your next pupusa fix! If you've never tried pupusa, try this place!

Kay V.

Yelp
I love this place I usually call ahead because it takes 20 minutes for them to make it. Pupusa are my favorite, especially the Revuelta ones that have beef and cheese in them... Not spicy no gluten very filling-- if you're starving, you can eat maybe three. The staff is always friendly and willing to go the extra mile, and they include a really amazing marinated type of Mexican sauerkraut that I like. Great job I just wish you were open right now because I am hungry and would like to go there but it is too late .

Anthony M.

Yelp
I ordered a super burrito which was bomb.com. carolinas, taco express aint got nothing on this!

Desirée K. H.

Yelp
First off, I have no pictures to share because I lost the opportunity when I took the first bite of the pupusa. Let me tell you, the revueletas and queso con jalapeños pupusas is where it's at!!! Hole in the wall spot, excellent service, and combined with a little market. I even got some chorizo from the butcher section for my breakfast the next day. It did not disappoint. (That I have a picture of lol)

Tani J.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. By far my favorite pupuseria around Sac. Service is friendly and they really work as quick as they can. It gets busy around lunch & dinner. Pupusas take about 25-30mins to make, so call them in if you're in a rush. Our favs are jalapeño y queso and the chicharron y queso. Our kids love the plain frijoles y queso. The ambience is that of pretty much any local taqueria.

Kristie N.

Yelp
So delicious. Every single item is mouth watering! Amazing quality I would order again and again. 10/10

Yelp
First off - always CALL AHEAD since these are hand made when ordered - it takes time and is worth the patience ! It's Wednesday 11:13 am - I called in 8 Papusas - 4 Chk 2 beef and 2 cheese jalapeño ones. I am told the order will be ready in 25 min. Great ! I'll sit at home until I need to make the 12 min drive - I took my time getting into my car. No rushing. I knew when I'd get there, it would be ready for me. I arrive and I am greeted as soon as I walk in it's calm. I pay and they bring my order to me. I check it, it's all there! I look up to leave - there's a line of people and almost no tables left. Listen ! This place is a Salvadorian restaurant ! It's a rare Gem so it gets busy and they run out of food sometimes because they're that good. Plan accordingly and plan ahead ! I did today and it was smooth and amazing to walk in pick up before the lunch rush. The customer service was amazing as always and the workers were all smiles! My food smelled and looked amazing ! Always a welcoming vibe full of families eating.

Yelp
I love coming here for great pupusas! The staff is always polite, and the family-owned atmosphere adds to the charm. They offer a variety of pupusa options beyond meat or cheese, though I've been a bit disappointed with their squash and loroco mixed with cheese pupusas as they seem to have more cheese than filling. While they do have other food options, pupusas are the standout. The only downside is the long wait times, we've experienced wait times of about 40 minutes. Despite that, I keep coming back because of the delicious food, but they could improve on their wait times.

Bob M.

Yelp
We were driving through Sacramento and looked up the best places to eat and were lucky to find Las Palmas. This is a restaurant connected to a small food market so set your sit down expectations accordingly. But the papusas were incredible - you can see them making them in front of you. Definitely worth a little detour if you are driving through the area.

Betsaida C.

Yelp
Showed up around 7 pm and the place was busy. I had high hopes because that usually means great food, unfortunately that wasn't the case. Their pupusas we're not very good, and their salsas was nothing to rave about either. The revueltas was all mush and didn't hold its shape very well and their queso con jalapeño were dry as heck! Finally, it would be great if when being serviced they'd let you know the wait time for the kitchen because not only did they take FOREVER but they also let us know 30 min into waiting that they ran out of certain meats for my tacos. This sadly did not make the cut for me.

Udochi M.

Yelp
My friend and I were talking to a vendor at the farm to fork festival. I mentioned that I really wanted some pupusas and the person recommended this place. We decided to check it out later that night and we were so happy that we decided to. The staff are all so friendly and nice and the food are equally as great! We decided to get 4 pupusas, a side of rice, and a aguas. All were delicious and reasonably priced! I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Since I was on the hunt for some authentic homemade papusas, I had to dig deep on the Yelp app for the best of the best. At least in the greater Sacramento area. After narrowing down to just a few places, I finally settled on trying out "Las Palmas Pupuseria & Carniceria". Located directly on Stockton Blvd and just south of Florin Rd, this place has been dishing out Salvadoran and Mexican food for many years. I came here during the afternoon of Sunday 12/18/2022 at around 3:00pm. It was a very cold winter day and I wanted something hot to warm my tummy up. Since this place was in a quiet strip mall, parking wasn't too bad. As soon as I entered, business was thriving with lots of customers and employees hard at work. This place actually has two separate rooms; to the left is the restaurant itself and to the right is the carniceria that specializes is lots of fresh meats as well as other items for sale. Since I was hungry, I ended up ordering a trio of papusas (beans, chicken, & pork) and a carne asada taco complete with a Mexican Coca-Cola. Total cost for everything was around $17, not bad for 4 items and a drink. It did take about 15 minutes to receive my food but everything is made to order and fresh. I'd much rather spend time waiting rather than some places that just heat up the food in an instant. Once my food arrived, everything was piping hot and looked amazing. My papusas had a very authentic homemade look to them while the taco was seasoned to perfection. And with your papusas, they also include a side of Curtido which is a traditional Salvadoran cabbage/slaw to dress up your papusa. When biting into the papusa, I was blown away. The beans in these were creamy and delicious while they put an abundance of meat in them. I will say this is hands down the best Salvadoran restaurant in the Sacramento area. Overall, this place does things the right way. Excellent service, delicious & flavorful food, affordable prices, and a great family owned vibe is what makes Las Palmas stand out from the rest. With that said and done, I am giving this place a unanimous and well deserved five star rating. I'll definitely be back when I have my papusa cravings again!

America W.

Yelp
The food and service here are incredible! Not to mention everything on the menu is super affordable. Las Palmas has the most authentic Salvi food in the Sacramento area! You definitely have to check this place out if you're in the area.

Jessica H.

Yelp
Seriously some of the best food I've ever had. The slaw was so delicious and flavorful. I've tried several of the pupusas and they're divine!! After we left the first time I couldn't wait to go back again!! I loved learning about the difference between Mexican Horchata and Salvadoran Horchata; the staff were kind enough to bring me samples to try. Everyone is super friendly and the vibe is super relaxed inside. I definitely recommend the jalapeño pupusas!! So delicious. Enjoy!!!

Marisela M.

Yelp
Used to be better!! We ordered Togo . We ordered 6 pupusas. 2 cheese with jalapeño, 2 cheese and chicharrón and 2 w cheese. It felt like they ran out if cheese and all six were placed 1 togo together. We had to guess which was which. Also we had plátanos with refied beans w crema. Alittle disappointed to see we had 1 platano sliced in 1/2. A very sad to go plate. The service is great as usual but the quality of the food not so much. Not many were there when we arrived but with in 10 min there were a few and got their food at the same time we did. We were in a hurry so it was hard to see they got there in store plates at the same time. No salvadoreña horchata which is my favorite. We will be back hoping that the quality of the food is a little bit better, especially since we did go an hour before closing

Maggie A.

Yelp
This place is hit or miss. Today's Pupusas are basically one big fat tortilla!! The filling is missing in action! So disappointing!! If I wanted tortillas I would have bought them at the supermarket and saved my money!

Laura M.

Yelp
My daughter took me to lunch today to this amazing authentic pupusaria restaurant for lunch. We were greeted by Ron who has a amazing personality as well as very professional he went over the menu and suggested a few items that we would enjoy and let me tell you the bean and cheese pupusas with the shredded cabbage and the salsa are extremely delicious for dessert we had fried plantains dipped in a creamy sauce those were excellent so if you're looking for a great place to have lunch this is the place to come all the staff were very friendly very clean as well as kind keep up the great work we'll be coming back

Alicia G.

Yelp
Best food ever never complain when I come here I could live off this food haha love the pupusas and Salvadoran beans and horchata and desserts

Marvin C.

Yelp
A bad introduction to pupusas on the west coast. Worst pupusas and horchata I've ever had. Pupusas had no flavor and they tasted like hot and wet tortillas. The horchata tasted like water with cinnamon. No sugar or milk added! Not to mention the jar they got it from which looked like they hadn't changed it in a couple of weeks. Sigh, I had high hopes.

Jocelyn A.

Yelp
Didn't know about this location until I saw it on yelp. Family run, small business. Decor is great, Pupusas are sooo freaking good! My husband and I have been looking for a place that uses the right cheese and has good cortido in Sacramento. We've recommended this location to friends and they all had great things to say. Management and service is friendly and welcoming!

Adriana R.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the homemade pupusas. Everything tasted perfect. The ingredients were so fresh and everything was so delicious.

Osvaldo O.

Yelp
Delicious homemade pupusas. Will come back for sure. Pupusas are huge and everything taste authentic and delicious.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Its alright but it's not the best. The pupusas have more masa(flour) then what it's stuff with. They do have clean tables and floors. It's always packed so go early to get a fast service.

J A.

Yelp
The Papusa's here are the best. They have friendly staff and offer fast service. My call in orders have never been wrong!! Love this place.

Juhi J.

Yelp
This is the best pupuseria around. Great pupusas, wonderful and friendly service, in a clean modest restaurant. We love coming here. My go-to is the Jalepeno, Zucchini, and cheese. DELICIOUS !!

Jessica H.

Yelp
When I say I am so happy I finally found this please!! It's incredibly good, you can see them making it fresh too order. They cashier was friendly and informative. The food was fresh hot and amazing. It took about 15-20 mins. The veggies and sauce were extremely good$ this is my new favorite spot.

Chris C.

Yelp
The food is decent and it looks well priced by quickly adds up with every little extra thing. I just checked my receipt and there is a "check out fee." I called the restaurant to inquire about this and a lady told me it was a credit card processing fee. This is outrageous especially since they did not tell me they would charge me such a fee... What kind of restaurant does this? Quit being so cheap and pay the Credit card fee yourself! Especially after you get a nice tip for a large party.

Ed F.

Yelp
food was very good. very tasty. The salvadoran tamale was moist, tender and flavorful. the yuca and pork belly was fantastic. The beef burrito was sweet but had a wonderful flavor. I would order all three again. Unfortunately, their pupusas was just ok. little filling and thick outside mesa. would not order this again. I actually prefer the pupusas from the salvadoran/mexican restaurant off north gate blvd.

Sandra G.

Yelp
These ladies have a really bad customer service I was at the register and they would only look at me and did not bother to ask what I wanted to order or to give them a min. No excuses I'm Mexican. There was a couple of gentlemen that just got tired of waiting and got up from their table and asked for their money back to they can go else where. I don't understand if they have plenty of staff I saw 8 people. Management need to improve the service.

Peter S.

Yelp
First time stumbling across this spot some years ago and I'm glad I did. Went to the smoke shop and was hungry. Looked to the left and seen that they were selling pupusas so I headed in. Order a few pupusas and their rice/beans. Mmm 10/10 chicharone/cheese frilled/queso. Service 10/10 people amazing and lovely. Ambiance 8/10

Jim A.

Yelp
Good pupusas can indeed be found here off the beaten path at Las Palmas. I've been coming in for a few weeks now on Saturdays and really appreciate the place. They have plenty of seating, including booths and a separate area if you want to get away from things. On Saturdays they have a karaoke slash radio show with latin music that has a pretty good range but can be loud and overly repetitive. Staff are friendly and helpful, I found they were really good at sensing timing with guests. They also let me order in spanish. The food is really good, I tend to get pupusas with just beans since I don't do dairy. While I have had better ones, these come out fast and are crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside with a good bit of flavor. The curtido (lightly pickled cabbage, carrots and onion) and sauce (not spicy, very good) are must haves with your pupusa. I get the meal with two, plus salvadoran beans and rice (the mexican versions are good too). Head out to Las Palmas Pupusaria for a tasty, inexpensive meal in a vibrant and friendly atmosphere.

Amiro A.

Yelp
My favorite pupusa spot been going here for years! Really good pupusas my favorite are the revuelta ones. & the salvadorian horchata and fried plantains with lechera sooo good. Service is great most days ! However sometimes you may have to wait but it's worth it.

Bob J.

Yelp
Great family-run Pupuseria! Great food, really nice people. Probably the best fried yucca and plantains in Sacramento. Really liked the pupusas and curtido too. We I'll definitely be back!

Ashley F.

Yelp
Bomb pupusas! I got a pupusa of chicharrón y queso along with some plátano frito with beans and sour cream and it was so good! Great service as well!

Mi B.

Yelp
Buenas pupusas, sabor y bien servidas. Cada ves que voy a Sacramento trato de ir y ahora que vivo en Mexico y tuve la oportunidad, tenia que comer ricas pupusas.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Happened upon this place by pure coincidence. Ordered the pupusa plate, Mexican style (Mexican arroz y frijoles instead of the Salvadoreño white rice and black beans). I got one revuelto (beans, chicharron and cheese) and one chicken and cheese...DELICIOUS!!! The service was a little slow but the place was packed, to go orders left and right, (I sat down to eat) so totally understand. They were worth the wait. I'll be back for sure!! Next time I'll take pics though it doesn't matter.... these pupusas were BOMB.COM!!

Martin H.

Yelp
Extremely lucky my daughter and I found this jewel! The pupusas were AMAZING. Great staff and Great food. A must if your in the area

Judi M.

Yelp
Was totally craving pupusas one day and remembered that I bookmarked this place. I was nearby for a meeting so I just had to give it a try. Restaurant is typical of pupuserias I've been to before, a bit dated in decor but very clean and tidy. I was helped at the counter right away where placed my order. They have the typical items (cheese, bean/cheese, bean/cheese/chicharon, cheese/chicharon, etc). I got the bean/cheese and chicharon combo plus one with just cheese. They're a really nice size too, for $2.75 each. I felt like I got my money's worth. You have to make sure to eat it fresh, because I got some to go and it was definitely not the same as fresh off the griddle. Service was very friendly and they were so helpful in helping me find other pupuserias in the area. They said its good to try so I can figure out theirs was the best. Love the self confidence. I will certainly be back.

Rachel C.

Yelp
This review is strictly only about their pupusas. If you haven't had Pupusas before I think Las Palmas Pupuseria is a great place for you to start! Note: The menu is in Spanish soooo if think you'll be having trouble understanding like I did, just ask! They're hella friendly and will talk you through the menu and answer all the burning questions you might have. Note II: The menu being in Spanish wasn't an issue to me at all, because that right there, along with how packed it was inside and how ahh-maze-ing it smelled as soon as we stepped foot in their little restaurant, tells me how authentic they are! My BFF and I ordered two of their most popular Pupusas, which was the revueltas pupusas (my personal fave), one chicken and cheese (ehhh), and one with just cheese. They came with hot sauce and veggies. ~$3 each ***If you google Pupusas, you will see they are made of THICK corn tortilla stuffed with stuff and let me tell you... Las Palmas Pupusas are THICCCCCCC*** - Cheese Pupusas: I'm not much of a cheese fanatic, but this was pretty yummy. It was pretttttty greasy though. - Chicken: Idk, something about this made me go "ehhh..." It looked like mashed up chicken mixed with cheese... except I barely tasted the chicken lol - Revueltas: Pork, cheese, beans, zucchini, and other veggies. THIS. Is the ONE! Soooo much flavor wrapped in a thick blanket of corn tortilla. Tasted even better with the hot sauce! But of course, it's still great without it, too. I see why this one is a popular one. A must try if ever you plan on trying this place out. The Pupusas stayed hot and fresh for a pretty long time. The dough(?) was soft and cooked to perfection ...and thickness. Stockton Blvd. is a pretty far drive, but I would make the drive here again for their Pupusas and to try other yummy items on their menu! Like enchiladas!! Yummm.

Mireya N.

Yelp
Service was great !! Super nice and quick ring up. I was craving some Pupusas. So I just found the nearest one to me. The vibe in there was cute they have a little market connected with some yummy snacks. But the food was okay. The curtido wasn't very fresh tasting. Pupusas had more masa than meat, barley had any cheese. I ordered 4 revuelta. I did see someone with some tacos and those looked good!!!

Anabel U.

Yelp
This is a great place for your pupusas cravings! The revueltas are great size, great portion of chicharon, frijole, y queso. They're a reasonable price and the service is quick. You can also stop by and grab other items in their market area. I usually order 3 but only eat 1.5 and keep the other ones for lunch the next day.

John S.

Yelp
One of the best pupusas in town and the best customer service I've had in awhile. The workers are super friendly and nice. This one girl helped me and my wife order by explaining things to us in a super polite way without any judgement (my wife and I are Asian so we felt out of place). I loved the food but the customer service and friendliness was the cherry on top. I wish I took a photo but one small bite of one of the pupusas and tacos just made me inhale all of the food lol. My wife loved the rice and beans - they taste home-made. I picked the pupusas and it reminded of my childhood back in high-school and an El Salvadoran classmate brought some for us to try. High recommend this plate to everybody.

Benjamin F.

Yelp
Always delicious, cheap, and very friendly staff! Always go for the pupusas. Sometimes there is live music.

Ninel V.

Yelp
Got my order wrong. They don't fully list whats in the food in the menu. I ordered a burrito (on the menu it listed that it only had meat, beans, rice, and pico de gallo) I ordered it with lettuce and no pico de gallo and it came out with sour cream and tomatoes inside. They tried to refuse to remake it but they eventually did. The beans were watery and the meat was really chewy and I just kept spitting out the chewy parts that gave me the icks. The inside of the restaurant was nice and clean bathrooms but the food was just okay.

Alberto M.

Yelp
I've came here for years and sadly notice the quality of food slowly get worse . Service has always been good but my biggest problem is that's me and my family went and we ate our food ,quality might be worse than before but still good . We payed and noticed the bill a little more expensive and saw a $15 miscellaneous fee . We went to ask what that was for and they said that it's because we came and ate at a table . And we weren't told about the fee at all until we were in the car and saw the receipt and than went back inside to ask . I enjoy this place but I can't keep saying it's the best pupuseria in sacramento when the quality has gotten lower and now charging fees for inside dining .hopefully they check the reviews and do something about it because it's hard finding a good pupuseria .

Vanesa N.

Yelp
This place is sooooooo good. We stopped in on our way home from swim lessons with a mad craving for pupusas. We decided to dine in. First of all, the staff is on it and super friendly. The restaurant, kitchen and bathroom were super clean. And, last but not least, the food was crazy good. So fresh and so much flavor. Just the right amount of everything. We'll definitely be coming back here.

Jessica V.

Yelp
Me encanto la comida y las personas bien amable :) ordene una popusa y dos tamales de elote! ME ENCANTARON! I enjoyed the food and the people very friendly:) I ordered a popusa and 2 tamales of corn. I ENJOYED THEM! Sweet Corn Tamales

Ilda L.

Yelp
Placed an order in Postmates and it was cancelled about 20min later. Called the location and the lady answered in Spanish then when mentioned the online order she began speaking in English and stated the order was probably for the bakery but we said no we ordered pupusas. She went on to state that they don't take online orders and doesn't know what we're talking about. If you don't take online orders then maybe you should have Postmates take off your restaurant because clearly it's the restaurant and the same address she confirmed over the phone. As much as I wanted to try the place based off of this conversation I wouldn't. She could've offered to take the order over the phone but didn't either.

Kenneth R.

Yelp
I've been to several Salvadoran restaurants in the region and Las Palmas has the best pupusas. I love that they serve sopa de gallina, which is my favorite and not something that many of the other Salvadoran restaurants in the area have on their menu. Also, they have a pretty good selection of Central American beers that I rarely see elsewhere.

Tommy T.

Yelp
This use to be our favorite pupusas place in Sacramento. We have been here over 10 times. This last time, we ordered 8 pupusas (3 revuelta, 3 de frijoles and queso, 1 con loroco and 1 chicharron). It took over 35 minutes from us ordering to us getting served. We saw two other groups that came after us get served before us and one of them even finished eating by the time we got our food. The pupusas were decent, but not as good as before. The dough was a little soggy. The curtido (pickled cabbage) was watered down and lacking flavor. The worse part was that I found 3 hairs on my plate hidden under the pupusas. We went from loyal to customers to never coming back here. If you want pupusas with whiskers on them, this is the place to go.
