I'm not a wine snob, nor do I play one on TV. But our visit to Las Positas was so friendly and welcoming that I'll make a point to seek out their wines in the future. And they ship to New York State!
My mom was the one who found Las Positas and made our reservations. We weren't a small group, nor a quiet one, but the staff was accommodating. From the moment we all arrived, it was all we could do to take in the atmosphere. The facility was breathtaking and I loved the light fixtures in particular.
We shared a few tapas plates, including the pesto caprese bites (more please!), the veggie supreme flatbread (no cause for complaints), and a charcuterie board that met everyone's needs. I'm not exaggerating when I say I loved the caprese bites. I'd get those again in a minute and then figure out a way to replicate the experience at home, on the other side of the country.
Now, for the wine. I know this is the reason for our visit and this review, so believe me when I say the wine was just utterly amazing. The staff suggested I might like a flight of white wine, which is completely in line with my personality, so I did. I was given a sparkling wine (classic), a verdelho (tasty!), an Albariño (great discovery!), a rose (another classic), and a Chardonnay (a pleasant surprise). At the end of the flight, I loved them all. I go for sweeter wines, so I was expecting to be indifferent to the Chardonnay, but it ended up being one I'll seek out again. I also sampled some red wine that I wish I wrote the name of down somewhere, because I loved that too, and I don't often say that to red wines.
I'm happy it worked out that we got to visit Las Positas. We had great food, fantastic wine, and some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. I'm not sure when I'll be back in the area, but the fact that they ship to New York State is a good fact to hang on to. Now, what are the odds I'll find this wine in a local store? There's only one way to find out.
