A Little Village Favorite Brings Its Signature Chilaquiles to Douglass Park | Eater Chicago

"I was reminded that González previously operated a quesadilla-focused concept called Las Quecas across the city and suburbs as part of a group that before the pandemic included eight locations of La Catedral and Las Quecas; he’s since pared back to two (soon to be three) and is planning additional projects for 2024." - Naomi Waxman

This place will just take your money and not feel bad about it, even with terrible service. My boyfriend and I came here to experience the good food we’ve heard about. This location specifically has terrible service. I ordered the chilaquiles plate that comes with 2 eggs, arrachera, and rice. I also ordered a jarrito and a cafe de olla. My boyfriend ordered the arrachera dinner with a jarrito and we shared guacamole and chips. We got our food and the portions were extremely extremely small. My eggs were overcooked and burnt, I literally received chips with salsa minimally poured over them. They literally made no effort to make them at least look like chilaquiles. My boyfriend and I both received Cecina instead of arrachera and I know it’s bc they thought we didn’t know the difference (we are from a diff culture) I asked the server if it was Cecina and he looked at me with a surprised face and said yes bc they were out of steak. There was absolutely no communication then had to sit and wait for them to make me a different type of meat for my plate. I had got up to check out all the sweets they had up front and over heard the 2 servers talking about us in Spanish and little did they know I speak Spanish, I am half Mexican and half black… terrible terrible experience. All together we paid $77 and they charged us for steak and not even a discount for inconvenience.

Nice and clean place. Fresh handmade Quecas (quesadillas nick name) From all the ingredients that you can normally find in almost every corner of Mexico City, you can even make combinations of different dishes. They are of a medium size well serve and they are ready super fast. During the week they have a different menu, like "taco tuesday"; Order your Queca one by one if you eat in, and enjoy this very Mexican dish. Four stars just for parking issues.

Food was great until I found a hair in my food ☹️ I was so upset I had been enjoying it until that surprise

I was in the area and feeling some discomfort to my foot, the employee let me in since the place had just opened, she let me elevate my foot since I explained that I had a minor procedure, she brought me my food of course but also condiments knowing that I was trying to keep my foot elevated, the food was delicious. Thank you for such great service and the delicious meal.

Our first time here and it won’t be the last! Super friendly service, and the quecas (slang for quesadillas) were soooo good. Handmade tortillas and homemade guisados (fillings) were super yummy. Nothing was spicy, just seasoned beautifully. I highly recommend this place! The beef tinga was amazing with a Smokey flavor of chipotle and mild heat level. The quecas are approximately 12” long and you can split the fillings to taste more than one at a time. I can’t wait to go back and taste even more. If you’re looking for a smaller size ask for a Gordita and you will get a round version but without the cheese 😁 Sorry too busy stuffing my face to take a picture lol!!!

I went this moring to eat there order a quesadilla and my girl got chilaquiles and 2 cafe te la olla and as we were eating a roach was walking in out table passed by our plates and as we tried to move our plates it ran and saw another one in the seat behind my girlfriend where she was sitting at we told the waiter and all she did was grab a napkin and killed it and and gave a smile and said I don’t know where it gave from that was disgusting we just left our food there and still got charged for it 32 for food that we didn’t even enjoy and ate good nasty place

Google
We loved this place when we came a few years back. I was surprised to see the reviews get so low. Well.... ...we're sitting here now and now I know why. Food is taking a disproportionately long amount of time. Getting a miller lite(bottle) took longer than a margarita. The food is great. Please don't bank on that making up for the service. Edit: food is very good. Bill came in and prices don't reflect what's on the menu for some drinks. We were told not all menus have been updated. Not exactly a customer problem is it?

Yelp
If the service is any indication, this is going to be a great breakfast. A cute and colorful dining area with high ceilings and good air quality, this spot was a delightful find after walking several blocks with growling stomachs in search of food while waiting for our new tires. The portions are generous and all the sauces are lovely. They have distinct identities-- none of them are weak in flavor nor do they duplicate. Slight quibble with the eggs not being over medium... but that's hardly worth a mention when the overall experience is so positive. The feeling is a bit like eating in a friend's parents' kitchen-- a friend whose parents can really cook! This place has sit down and carry out and patrons who feel very "neighborhood" flow in and out cheerfully-- everyone seems to feel as if this is their place.

Yelp
Las quecas mean quesadillas with different fillings, aka quisados, my favorite chicharron prensado, red and green, and hot cafe de olla Pretty good You can also add hot sauce, lettuce ,pico de gallo These quesadillas are big They also got alfajores, candies, and much, much more The ladies are friendly

Yelp
I have been having this place on my list for a while. When I finally went I was surprised by how expensive things were. Which I should've known by the menu not having prices. Food is mediocre and definitely not worth the price. The place is so cold, they can work on heating first before over charging for food.

Yelp
When the Horchatas is real good, you know the food is not far behind. I even like the side salad the dish came with. All that before I tried the food. Their specialties are quesadillas so we had it. Let's start with the corn tortillas that's thick giving it character with a masa like taste(best guess the tortillas is made fresh literally next door). Inside is a marriage of moist tender juicy steak with ooey gooey cheese - the result is terrific. The al pastor is also good but the steak is the stand out.

Yelp
Quesadillas are clutch ! Love them .. Food is authentic and the staff works hard. I'm

Yelp
The different varieties of filling on a handmade tortilla. Very delicious. Can actually eat up to 2 or can do 2 fillings on one queca. I'm giving it only 3 stars cause prices went up and they're ridiculous

Yelp
Friendly, clean and the food is delicious, handmade quesadillas stuff with different stews, tripe soup menudo) an also pozole soup on the weekends, the music is definitely energetic in here! Happy vibe's for sure!

Krystal A.

Yelp
Rude customer service and drinks was disgusting. Old and nasty . Very disappointed Food was fine
google avatar

David O.

Yelp
Came here for pozole, they were all out. I then asked for menudo, they said there was very little left & that it was cold. I decided to take the remainder & they charged me $12 for a quart. When I got home it was absolutely bland, so disappointing. Never again!

Lilly T.

Yelp
The food was way to expensive for how it tasted. I got chilaquiles for $18. some pieces were cold and some were warm plus I got tacos and they were the driest tacos I've ever had. they overcharged me by $4 it's not much but I could only grab three pieces of candy. plus my and my friend were the only people there and we waited about 10 minutes for a menu and the food took forever. the service would've been except able if their were more people. overall 0/10 I'm very disappointed.

Yelp
I was very surprised by how delicious and fresh everything tasted in my vegetarian torta on New Year's Day. I love their pickled spicy onions and their pico de gallo was also pretty good. I would definitely come back here when I am in the area. Thank you for the delicious food.

Berenice C.

Yelp
Food is great, serving portion could be better. The inside of the restaurant is adorable.

Yelp
The best I had homemade tortillas the carne asada quesadilla was amazing and the pozole was so flavorful. I'm so glad we found this place

Yelp
Hands down the food is so delicious! Me and my husband had two quesadillas each. he had flor de calabaza cochinita and chicharron en salsa verde each quesadilla half and half I had chicharroN salsa verde mushrooms and chorizo con papas/ We had a small pozole which we took home bc we ordered the second quesadillas but its flavor was good as well only thing i wished it had all the toppings we add like avocado and cabbage. Our kids had tacos de asada and quesadillas. Everything was ready fast and hot and the flavor amazing. We left and took dessert home alfajor cookies first time and they were good and their tiramisu so good! Service was amazing they checked on us often and we literally felt as if we were with family.

Yelp
Horrible customer service never again. Can't answer the phone when you call close early before it's even time so Why run a business if you ignore your customers?

Norma R.

Yelp
Only leaving a one star because their food is good. So I'm a person who hesitates leaving a bad review but this has not only been once or twice it's been three times. We call ahead to make sure of the closing times , always saying eight, and when we arrive they are closed. On their door it's posted at nine. When we arrive there it has been 730 720 and 744 latest. Today we get here and the ladies are still there looking at us while we're trying to open the door. Not even an "excuse me we are closed" just pretending they don't see us. We come from far and though we understand people want to go home it is unfair that a person calls ahead and told one thing but another is done. Sad to say this might be the last time I come back.

Yelp
They actually have such great quesadillas and tacos de asada! Super under rated spot, def will come back (:
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
The quesadillas here are delicious. Staff is welcoming every time I pick up my order. The restaurant looks clean. I am very picky about my horchata so I liked that they let me sample the horchata before I decided to purchase.

Yelp
01/20/2017 At 9:00pm There was no beef served at this restaurant during this period when asking they told me that they had none. So first time coming to the Las Quecas restaurant which is Mexican themed food did not have Beef in stock, or they were very lazy to prep more beef. Will never come back to a Mexican restaurant that has no beef I stock. I hope this place closes down soon and allows an actual Mexican restaurant the opportunity to sell real food with beef.

Yelp
Food was good hot sauces were good BUT THE SERVICE WAS SUPER CRAPPY AND JUST BECAUSE OF THAT I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN. I asked for a glass of water the waitress had an attitude served me sink water no ice and my glass of water was hot and half way served ... I also asked for quesadilla dinners and she got my order wrong... HORRIBLE SERVICE
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Massive dissapointment. Soggy quesadilla with little flavor. Bland, small tacos without much going on. All of it tasted like week-old leftovers. From the 6 items we ordered the only compliment i can come up with is the chips were thick and crispy.
google avatar

Daniela R.

Yelp
I love the quesadillas here. It's the flavor that reminds me the most of Mexico. The service is also very friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Quesadillas were ok. The food was alright, but order made wrong. We were missing a taco. Will not be returning. Simple food that took the hunger away nothing more.

Yelp
I rarely think of doing reviews but I definitely had to for this place. As an owner myself being in marketing, I want to say I'm quite impressed. The place is modern, fast, and affordable. I went with a group of friends and tried the Giant Quesadilla which was so good! Keep up the great work everyone!

Denise C.

Yelp
Just tried it for the first time tonight. I had the mushroom queca and it was good. I was disappointed though because I thought they made it fresh. But they pulled precooked steak out of the fridge to make the steak queca for my friend. And the quecas themselves are premade and reheated. 4 stars for delicious, minus 1 star for not as fresh as I expected. Will definitely try them again.

Yelp
Excellent food, amazing customer service..we will definitely return from San Antonio, TX...Best quesadillas in town!!
