Las Termas

"This family-run restaurant, just a few metres from the palace designed by Gaudí, boasts a spacious dining room featuring ochre walls and wood furnishings that create a very welcoming feel. Although it offers other dishes based around local and regional ingredients, the undoubted star of the show here is its signature and ever-present “Cocido Maragato” stew. The unique feature of this dish is that, contrary to usual practice, it is served in reverse order with the meat first, followed by the chickpeas and lastly the soup. You can also purchase Las Termas’ delicious chickpeas if you’re keen to cook them at home!" - Michelin Inspector

I had a great lunch here. I strongly recommend you come and have nice meal if you are passing by. A memorable dining experience. Every dish we tasted was a masterpiece. The attention to detail in presentation and taste was truly remarkable. But what truly set this restaurant apart was the impeccable service; the staff anticipated my needs before I even realized them, ensuring that every moment of my meal was nothing short of perfection. Without a doubt, dining here was an exquisite journey for the senses.

A Culinary Pilgrimage: The Finest Cocido Maragato in Astorga Tucked away in the heart of Astorga, this familly owned restaurant is not just a place to dine—it’s a living testament to the culinary heritage of the Maragatería region. Specializing in cocido maragato, this establishment masterfully honors the time-honored recipe while continually refining the experience, making it a standout destination for locals and visitors alike. From the moment you step inside, the restaurant exudes an authenticity that is rare to find. The rustic decor, warm ambiance, and the smell of slow-cooked broth immediately transport you to a different time. The cocido maragato, served in its traditional reverse order (starting with meats, followed by vegetables and chickpeas, and ending with a rich soup), is prepared with meticulous attention to detail, using locally sourced ingredients that elevate every bite. What truly sets this place apart is its commitment to continuous improvement. Each year, subtle enhancements are made—whether it’s a more refined presentation, a new addition to their house-made condiments, or an ever more thoughtful approach to service. All these thoughtful improvements are a reflection of the family owners’ deep love and respect for their customers, driven by a genuine passion to provide an unforgettable experience with every visit. It’s no exaggeration to say this is the best place in the area for cocido maragato. For anyone seeking an authentic, unforgettable taste of the region, this restaurant is not just a meal—it’s a journey. Don’t miss it.

When in Astorga, you have to go, it's like going to the Gaudí palace, an experience, only one dish on the menu, 'cocido Maragato ' a Nice story behind it, but let's go to the meal, the taste is unique, you have to go through all the steps, including desert, it's amazing, don't go for the looks go for the taste.Santiago the owner is a special man, he cook's it with love, and is always seeing if it's enough, old school MAN, very special, the rest of the family are very nice as well.

For those on Camino this is a restaurant that offers a purely local menu (lunch only, so this will be your big meal of the day): Cocido Maragato, a meal served in reverse order. Fresh tomatoes in oil and vinegar A variety of cooked meats Delicious chickpeas and cabbage dish A light soup A custard, dessert with light cake and filtered coffee See, pics. Only €29 including a full bottle of wine.

Excellent food, great value, kind attentive service Wonderful and hearty meal. Had the Cocido set meal. It was filling for a hungry pilgrim! Tomato, olive oil and bread, Cocido meat plate, followed by chickpeas and cabbage, then soup, then dessert. Wine and water included. Service was excellent and very attentive. They get busy over lunch and seems to be a popular place, well-deserved!

A delicious family-run restaurant. Make a reservation or be early as it gets full. Their typical ‘cocido maragato’ is amazing. 3 steps, all included, meats/veggies(chickpeas and cabbage)/soup served in this order (reverse of normally expected, based on traditions). Meats are OK, but chickpeas and soup are amazing. And you should meet fascinating Sr. Santiago, the father of the restaurant. If you are lucky, you can learn his special secret recipe of chickpeas to cook at home.

Yelp
Located right across the street from the Hotel Casa de Tepa, this is a great place to eat for anyone visiting Astorga, whether a tourist or a pilgrim on the Camino. It was where we had our evening meal before departing on the Camino the next morning. It's a quaint little restaurant that serves a full menu, as well as options for a pilgrim meal. My traveling companion had fish; I had a hearty beef stew in a tomato broth. Both were served with fried potatoes (which are far more common in Spain than I had anticipated), a rustic loaf of bread, and a delicious bottle of house wine. It was a great place to eat, and convenient to many locations downtown.
