L'AS

"Simple yet refined fare, enjoyed in a casual setting. Keen to make French cuisine familiar to his clientele, the chef offers great taste at a reasonable price. Guests can enjoy their meals as if they were gathered around their own dinner tables. The chef changes the menu monthly, greeting diners with something different each time they visit. Cooks also bring dishes to tables for a seamlessly integrated dining experience." - Michelin Inspector

Food: Overall average—nothing stood out, but nothing was terrible either. The fruit tomato with basil sparkling wine was overly sweet, especially the wine. Not a good pairing in my opinion. Wine Pairing: Underwhelming and didn’t complement the food well. Service: Disappointing. Despite several loud tables, only our group was told to keep it down, which felt unfair. More seriously, I found a thick black hair in my salad. Shockingly, instead of preparing a new one as promised, they just removed the hair and replated the same salad. I saw this happen from their open kitchen. Only after realizing I was watching did they make a fresh one. Really concerning hygiene and service standards.

I’m torn on L’as. The food was good and culinarily interesting; the foie gras crispy sandwich and cream of mushroom soup with mascarpone were table favorites. The wine pairing was well thought out. However, with that being said, I felt like I was on a factory floor; everything was rushed. The moment a dish was done the staff would descend and we would be instantly pushed into the next course. It was off putting.

L'as was great! The food was adventurous for us, but very well done. A great way to expand culinary horizons. The courses were served promptly by a very friendly staff. The staff was very accommodating and were able to convey everything in English for us. Definitely worth checking out if you're after a very high end restaurant experience.

My wife surprised me with a birthday dinner at L'AS on our first trip to Japan. This restaurant did not disappoint. The people were so welcoming and they accomodate to our dietary needs pretty well. Loved the entire experience!

Extremely value for money modern French with amazing flavors and great/friendly service. Dishes are minimalistic but well executed. Highly recommended if you are looking for reasonable French in Omotesando area. I had a non-alcohol pairing plus mini cheese dessert (mascarpone with honey and olive oil).

Google
The place is quite popular and offers the same set menu throughout the day for both lunch and dinner. Definitely recommend the wine pairing with the food. The vibe is also good, with many seats available. Since there are many seats in the same room, the place is not very quiet, but has good vibe. I was surprised to eat the in-house prepared mozzarella cheese served on a spoon. It is recommended to come at the exact time of booking, early entries are not allowed.

The first thing that took me by surprise was how crowded the place was. It was almost like they tried to fit the maximum number of tables and chairs possible. The servers were just coming and going not really taking into account the customers trying to get to their seat so I was a bit overwhelmed when I entered. Everyone gets the same menu unless you have an allergy or can’t take on certain ingredients so most of the explanations felt very robotic. Everyone was taking pictures of their food and it was a bit annoying because the cameras were just clicking left and right and like I mentioned the place is just super packed. There are only two toilets - definitely not enough for the crowd and i think I waited about 15 minutes and just gave up at the end. Okay, enough about the atmosphere of the place :p The food was very good, and I was full towards the end of the course. I felt I was getting my moneys worth. I also felt the drink pairing with the food was great as well. I enjoyed the food experience very much. Perhaps the reason why they can set the pricing for the course at this rate is because they allow so many customers in.

A casual bistro. Interesting dishes but the taste was okay.

Yelp

Yelp
Found this place from gourmet Instagram account and went with my mentor who is also gourmet. I've been craving foie gras as we cannot have it in California, the first dish of Foie gras sandwich was super satisfying for me!!! All the other dishes were also very aesthetic and tasty. Especially, the truffle polenta was surprisingly good considering I don't like polenta. The other favorites this time was the cheese that we added before the dessert and it was with fancy balsamic and olive oil which were tastes good as well. Another thing to note was that their drink menu was also creative and my chai cocktail was well done with spices but with not too strong flavor to enhance the food taste. Nice ambience and cute dishes - recommended to visit for nice dinner with friends or partner!

Yelp
Everything is excellent: food, service, ambience. Unfortunately, waiters are wearing masks like they are all sick and it's hard to understand what they are talking about. I would give them 5 stars otherwise.

Yelp
If you are looking for a stylish spot to enjoy a multi-course French meal at a reasonable price, L'As is the place for you. There aren't many places that serve food of this quality and variety for just 5,250 yen per person. It's even better if you are a wine lover, as the wine course is decided first, then the dishes are created to pair with the wine. So what do you get for your hard-earned 5,250 yen? The menu changes regularly, but this is what we were served at our dinner in early February. 1. amuse bouche #1: house-made mozzarella cheese 2. amuse bouche #2: renkon chip dusted with paprika 3. foie gras crispy sandwich 4. truffled polenta (sorry, no photo) 5. cold appetizer of sliced mushrooms and prosciutto (sorry, no photo) 6. warm appetizer of a rich seafood bisque 7. Spanish mackerel poêlé (fish dish of the day) 8. stewed lamb and piperade (meat dish of the day) 9. pre-dessert of sweet tomatoes in olive oil 10. dessert of coconut gnocchi with mikan sorbet The portions were just the right size for us and all of the dishes are very competently made. The foie gras crispy sandwich is their most well-known dish, but while it is fun to eat, I wish it were more savory instead of sweet. The mushroom dish was delicious and the Spanish mackerel was perfectly cooked. It's also definitely worthwhile to get the wine set. The price is around 5,000 yen for 5 glasses (sorry, I forgot the exact price) and the wines are great for people who like to try something out of the ordinary. With the wines chosen by sommelier Tanabe-san, I have never had a bad experience. L'As is now located in the backstreets of Minami Aoyama. They moved from their previous location at the end of 2013. Adjoining L'As at the new location is Cork, a sleek wine bar that shares the same kitchen and the same reputation for excellent cost/performance.

Yelp
Number one most frequently recommended restaurant in Tokyo, at least as counted by the times I have asked. Well justified based on the tasty food and great value. Menu doesn't change that often but why mess with something that works. Nice interesting wine pairing. Hits the "fancy French tasting menu" craving head on without being too fussy
