Nightclub & Bar Show postpones until June - Eater Vegas

"Nightclub & Bar Show, the massive convention that planned to take over the Las Vegas Convention Center in March and April, rescheduled for a later time in June. Questex, which runs the convention that usually attracts about 39,000 attendees, moved the show from March 30 to April 1 to June 22-24 at the convention center." - Susan Stapleton

Google
this place was built like a maze meant to frusterate and confuse the people who come there. I would not hold any convention here

Yelp
To start with, there's not much to review, but over the years, I have been to the original convention center and the last 2 years, I have been in the new part- the West Hall. It is absolutely gorgeous! Everything is new, of course, but you can really see the attention to detail everywhere. From the convention hall itself to all the breakout rooms, impressive. There are loads of stairs, escalators and elevators to get you around and up and down. There are several food options in the food court area. One thing I really liked is the way the designer made sure to be able to bring in sunshine from outside, it makes quite a difference! Yes, it is huge and takes a while to walk around, but hey, that's the nature of a convention center!

Yelp
Unsafe property and poor security. I had my purse, phone and ID stolen onsite. It was reported within 20 minutes of the items going missing with visible overhead cameras in the area. By the time building security came it had been over an hour. They filled a report and instructed me to call their security phone number because no one would be following up with me. AKA they had no intentions for looking for my stolen items. It's been two weeks and I've called them 6 times and no one can given me a clear update on my case. By the 5th call I escalated to management and all they could say is that they were reviewing footage but probably didn't have a clear angle. This is NOT true because the on site agent called in and spent 20+ minutes confirming which camera could view the space.

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - Huge convention center, 3.2m square feet. 144 meeting rooms. Can host 200k+ visitors. Best to travel via shuttle! Bottlenecks everywhere, so plan for extra time. The good news is that there was so much police monitoring traffic. Atmosphere - Crazy busy during convention time! Service - Okay. Most people are friendly. Many are stressed out, due to the "environment" of conventions. Price - Depends on the convention. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1957. It is good to see your growth/expansions, but you really need to do something to improve the traffic issue. Expansion years - 1971, 1990, 1998, 2002, 2021.

Yelp
3 days in a row at this place, spent over an hour trying to find parking.. to be turned away to park at the Westgate. Absolutely crazy that they keep building on but cannot accommodate for parking. Other than the parking.. this is a nice facility with plenty of food options unless you need to stay past 7pm because everything closed. (Our event lasted until 10pm)

Yelp
The convention center is rather large with many simultaneous events occurring at the same time. I was here for a volleyball tournament and despite the noise, there was almost always a quiet space to escape, which I appreciated. Food is extremely overpriced and parking is a hassle but there are little options if you're attending an event here. Overall the building was clean and very well maintained.

Yelp
It's home to a lot of shows. The magic and hardwork it takes to turn a blank convention floor into a trade show is the many many long hours of the set up and tear down crew. It doesn't make a difference if it's SEMA, World of Concrete, KBIS or the Hardware show, it's a marvel as to how it's done. The current construction at the main entrance - central is a pain but can't wait to see what they have done when it's done.

Yelp
The Vegas convention center is massive. The Tesla shuttles are making it easier to navigate, but the parking lots get full and it's a very long walk from hall to hall. The bathrooms are a bit old and outdated and could use some love. Lots of awesome events going on here.

Yelp
The Las Vegas Convention center or LVCC is one of, if not the largest convention center in the world. This thing is massive. My Lyft Driver even asked which part of the center I'd be going to? I replied, "West Hall, why?" She explained that the LVCC is so big that the south hall for example is like a 25-minute walk, away! She went on to talk about "The Loop" underneath, which is a transport area, according to her exclusive to Tesla's, that transport people around the halls. Even stepping inside the West Hall I could tell how massive the venue is. I came for the Evolution series tournament or "EVO" for short. It is the largest fighting game competition in the world and annually, thousands of people from all over come to compete and/or spectate in fighting games. It has grown so much in the past 10 years that it has moved from Mandalay Bay to here, and it seemed to do well fitting so much over the 3-day event. Special thanks to all the workers and security who helped to manage this humongous convention center.

Yelp
Las Vegas Convention Center is one of my favorite locations to go to for conferences in Las Vegas. The space is huge! I recently went to the Las Vegas Convention Center for the Lvlup Expo, which is located in the West Hall. The West Hall is next to Siegel's Bagelmania Las Vegas. The parking lot structure for the West Hall is parking lot V. Current prices for the day are typically $15.00 for parking at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The event was well organized at the Las Vegas Convention Center! The Las Vegas convention Center West Hall is one of the newer addons to the Convention Center! Typical classroom capacity in the West Hall is around 800 per room! The West Hall is extremely large! There are a few different methods you can use to travel to the West Hall, such as the Vegas Loop and the Vegas Monorail! This is a great convention center!

Yelp
I came to this convention center for EVO during the summer The parking lot filled up before 10 am. I was able to find parking down the street (5 min walk) for $20. The food court was good, $20 on average per meal. The facilities were clean all throughout the day. It was quite spacious, given the 13,000 expected to be in attendance. There were plenty of vendors, a freeplay area, riot games, etc. It was a hell of a fun time. I got some sick stickers, an anime themed license plate, etc. I was surprised that there was a line for the water station.

Yelp
Make food available from both sides at your mini cafe near the main entrance Add basics to the rooms like a microwave or coffee maker. Coffee is $6 a cup in the center ! Everything else is expensive too. $14, plus tax plus tip for a gin and tonic! Buy at local markets or bring your own food & beverages My Friends had bed bugs in their room. They were moved to a suite - check the beds! The diver of the taxi cab at west gate had "attitude" and a dirty beat up car. Suggest you take uber

Yelp
It was my first time at BJJ competition. It was an amazing experience. The convention center is pretty big and it has a lot of competition going on

Yelp
First time at the Las Vegas Convention Center! I attended the UFC X -Expo. Very easy to access from multiple streets around the convention center. Parking can fill up quickly, but with people entering and exiting the convention center constantly, you can find parking pretty easily. The convention center is huge, which makes the lines move pretty quickly, since they have so many people working. Once inside there were plenty of drink and food options, as well as easily accessible bathrooms. The air conditioning in this place is great, which makes it nice on the 110 degree days in Vegas. I will definitely be back to attend another Expo, especially now I know how easy and well organized they are!
google avatar

Yelp
Was here for TwitchCon - I wish the venture offered more seats and tables for folks to sit. I also wish they had more signs to show folks where all the bathrooms and water bottle filling stations are. The place is super spacious and great for conventions but I kind of felt getting to the venue and the restaurant surround the area was not that great. A bit of a walk to get to the nearest Walgreens.

David F.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible The people in charge of parking are 100 percent incompetent. They don't know what they're doing there's no communication between them. DEI at its best. Take the monorail it will save you time.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
It can't take an hour from the time I'm on your property to park, and then it was a 10 min walk to the venue. The taxpayers deserve better, this have to be more efficient. I can leave my house and be parked at allegiant stadium in 25 min total for a NFL game, but girls volleyball takes an hour and ten minutes?
google avatar

Yelp
Always good experience and safe every time I come here for certain events and is huge place
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
This space is enormous. I wish there was a quicker way to get from hall to hall like a walking escalator. I've yet to see a complete show truly fill the entire spaces it seems dull in recent times

Yelp
This is the first time we attended an event in the Las Vegas Convention Center since we have lived in Las Vegas for the past few years. Although we are not really into competitive gaming, inspired artistry or collecting in these areas, we decided to get a 3 day pass and check out the LVLUP Expo 2024 and we glad we did. The convention center is set up nicely with large areas for exhibitor and large crowds can move around freely since it is so spacious. The LVLUP Expo 2024 was held in the West Conference Center where there are plenty of bathrooms and a central food court area (the food was priced somewhat reasonable and okay, but nothing extrodinary). The staff here is friendly and helpful, and getting in through security and picking up your entry badge was easy. The gold and bronze parking lots are fairly small and closest to the West Convention Center, but they fill up fast so don't waste your time in traffic trying to park there. Instead just go to the Platinum Lot, walk across the street, and grab a ride from the LVCC South Station to the LVCC West Station in a Tesla (was free of charge). Overall, the LVLUP Expo 2024 was very interesting, fun and there were alot of things to look at, expecially all the unique costumes and props! Suggest if you attend to go a head and dress up and have some fun (let your alter ego come out)!

Yelp
Went here for a basketball tournament and was blown away with all the courts they had set up . Can't wait till next time

Yelp
This is not a review on the convention center itself, this is a review on Quizinoz inside the convention center. Is the worst $18 sandwich I ever had in my entire life. They should be giving these away for free. It's so awful.. I got suckered
google avatar

Alexander O.

Yelp
The convention center has been very accommodating for the large crowd of NFR Cowboy Christmas shoppers. All around professional staff members and never caused any problems at all. The place can get tight at times with how many vendors and shoppers are on one floor. The only advice I would give is to expand the shopping experience.

Yelp
i got more steps in at ces than a full day at disneyland, and that says a lot... going from west hall to the other side near westgate was a trek, i should've just oped for the vegas loop tesla ride instead, i didn't know any better. tesla loop ride was included with the ces admission so that was a nice perk, but going to resort world will cost you a $5 ticket. the food court didn't look all that great, and the convention center really just feels more like a large warehouse. looks nicer on the outside than inside. security was a little haphazard. some entrances require metal detectors some didn't. i made sure to stay walking distance to the convention center so i didn't have to opt for public transport, so can't comment on that aspect but i did notice there are hotel loop buses, not sure if those are with additional cost.

Yelp
They say what happens at the event stays at the event... but my Photo game begs to differ. Boxing fan expo Met legends , traveled underground in a Tesla , saw awesome fighters put in work and connected with good people! I'm here for it ! Dream big, punch harder.

Yelp
The LV Convention Center is a a 4.6 million square foot facility. It's the known as "the nation's only convention center designated as a World Trade Center site." It's a hot spot the largest and most influential trade shows and events year-round. I've been here many time for conferences, The NFR (national finals rodeo) and of course, many Jiu Jitsu competitions like IBJJF's American Nationals, Gi Worlds and NoGi Worlds. I recently came here on December 8, 2023 to compete at the 2023 IBJJF NoGi Worlds where I captured Silver in my division and Bronze in the Open division. I was here all day. Parking was an absolute sh!tshow. They're doing construction by North/South Halls so they we're diverting cars out of the parking lots. The attendants weren't friendly and signage was awful to non-existent. I ended up parking in an "event parking lot" across from West Hall adjacent to the Marriott Hotel. It was $25 but you have to move your car by 6:00pm or it would get towed. If you're in town for the Rodeo or Jiu Jitsu events, I highly recommend rideshare. Parking was awful. Other than that, I don't really have much to say about the center. It's just a convention hall to me.

Yelp
LVL UP EXPO 2024 For This Weekend Has Been Amazing So Far N Excellent And Stuff. Also Finally The Convention Center Is The Best For Any Convention.

Yelp
Love this convention center. I've been here as a guest, and I've been here to work an event as well (UFC X). This convention center is easy to locate, traffic is hit or miss depending on the time of day. Parking is $10 a day. Entrance is easy to find. Convention center is very spacious, room for several booths, stores, activities & more!! This is my favorite location for big events in town. You can see the newly built sphere from here which is an awesome addition. 10/10 experience from both experiences as a guest & a staff member.

Paul M.

Yelp
Good venue for hosting large conventions like the National Business Aviation Association show. Located close to the train for easy access to the hotels and down town core
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
I am pretty much here at least once a year for a tradeshow. I have to say that one of my biggest pluses about this convention center when compared to other convention centers is that zi can get real food at this tradeshow instead of paying exorbitant prices for mediocre food at other shows. My pro top is to go to the Lux Csfe, which is kind of like a Cheesecake Factory and the prices are good and the food is better. Las Vegas is one of the huge tradeshow destinations and it is really no wonder why. I have to say that their convention center is good and relatively easy to navigate. The staff and security were friendly enough and despite the long days, I had a good time while I was there. Overall, I would definitely recommend going to this particular convention center if business offers you an opportunity to go.
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
?5tBiggest newest tradeshow space in town wows buyers! Good and ample parking for all accept during CES of course. The West hall is incredibly spacious with tons of bathrooms and a Duncan donuts that has my favorite iced matcha drink. There is a bridge connecting the new hall to the old ones. They are revamping the leaky south hall as you read this. Easy load in if you are an exhibitor and avoid the move in mafia aka Freeman which is anything less than free. The new world resort and Fountainebleau casinos are just across the way and very walkable from the show. Bagelmania and the Peppermill are both ridiculous and delish! Come shop/work here, just roll the dice! Winners all around!
google avatar

Angel B.

Yelp
Came here for the low rider show. One thing to expect is plenty of walking. The parking lots are challenged with accommodating an abundance of cars. Try looking for alternative parking lots or one that is further away. Plenty of space inside their multiple halls. Tickets can be purchased with cash or card at the ticket windows inside. If possible purchase tickets before hand to avoid the wait. With advanced tickets one can still not escape the security line. But we know the rules. No weapons. They do check. If your prone to hunger pains eat before you come. Food is pricey and the lines are terrible. Pretty cool space. A whole lot cheaper than LA prices. Especially for parking

Yelp
I've been here for so many different conventions including: the Tea Expo, Pizza Expo, CES, Library Expo, and the NAB show. This convention space is bigger than it looks, and with the new West Hall it can be even bigger. I have walked from one end to the other and it takes about 10-15 minutes. They are pretty good about hallways and paths inside so you don't have to go outside if you don't want to. The West Hall is newer and much better than the South or Central. The food options are more plentiful and everything is just nicer. The food is expensive no matter which hall you go to, so I try to bring food when I can. Depending on the popularity of the convention, parking can be tricky. Don't forget to check which hall your convention is so you don't park too far away and have to walk! For the really popular conventions (like CES) I usually just take the monorail in so I don't have to deal with parking. They recently added the Vegas Loop which is handy. You can go underground and go between all the different halls in a Tesla. The plan is to eventually have driver-less vehicles, but right now someone actually drives them. If you are an AMEX customer and have a Platinum, Business, or Corporate Card - you can go into their lounge for free in the Central Hall (and bring a guest). They usually have snacks, fancier coffee, free wi-fi, and lots of sitting and charging spots. This is a solid convention space, but be prepared for walking. Also if you pick a hotel, make sure that it's either super close to the convention or close to the monorail. A lot of the hotels on the outskirts are a little... questionable.

Yelp
This place is freaking HUGE. I attended SEMA show 2023 and was amazed by how massive this place is. Great venue to host an event with all top notch high tech amenities, this is the place
google avatar

Yelp
Our job (Southwest Airlines) has a Rally at the Las Vegas Convention Center every year! And it always amazing. The center is definitely big enough to accommodate us all and this year they even put a skating rink in that Thang BOMB.
google avatar

Bryan B.

Yelp
Was here for the NAB conversation. The overall convention was great well put together, but the parking needs to be fixed. We ended up parking at Westgate hotel ( formerly The Hilton ). If you end up parking there be prepared to walk forever. On top of walking in the massive convention center. Wear comfortable shoes. There is plenty of space to walk down the aisles. And a small low key food offering. Staff was well informed and helpful. Restrooms were clean enough. But very limited seating in the hallways for a lot of conventioneers. Also to register was kind of hard to find, but once you found it was a painless process. Over all a good experience

Yelp
Sibies Wraps and Bowls is trash!!! $16 for a turkey wrap with packaged lunch meat, wilted lettuce, 1 slice of cheese, uncooked bacon and old tomato. Also $4.50 for a bottled water. And the women behind the counter, just ugh... unprofessional.
google avatar

Arnel D.

Yelp
Finally the West Wing has opened to the public. It stands where the iconic Riviera Hotel and Casino used to be. It's huge, spacious and absolutely beautiful. The color combo of concrete and carpet makes it unique. Having attended the World of Concrete 2021 Convention I was surprised to see so many attendees and exhibitors. Considering the pandemic restricted the international travelers I'd say it was still a success. It's easy to get in and out of and their staff are super friendly and welcoming. With the addition of the Tesla Loop, you can get from one end of the convention center to the other in less than 3 minutes! It will save you and your feet the trek and time. Can't wait to be back again for the next convention. Maybe January!
google avatar

Sami S.

Yelp
I try to only go to the convention center once a year for Magic, can't stand it for any other reason. Staff is always pretty rude and not helpful. Parking is a complete disaster. But, it's a needed building.

Yelp
Here for FFXIV Fanfest 2023. Event staff is eztremely unprofessional and uncoordinated. Upper management is completely and utterly incompetent. Security does not perform bag checks. I got to the event at 5:30 specifically to buy merch as one of the first 50 people in line. Merchandise is scheduled to start at 9 am. Instead, event staff at 9am forced people into the main hall with zero instruction for what to do for merch. There was a specified ADA line for merch which is to be commended. From there multiple staff incorrectly pointed out where to line up for a general merch line resulting in 3 fake merch lines. I did my part to make sure I would have the chance to get the merch I wanted to purchase. Event staff's uncoordination and utterly incompetent upper management guaranteed my efforts were in vain. I will not be returning to this center for any future events.

Yelp
I wake up on a Sunday afternoon. Yesterday I had a vasectomy and my crotch still hurts. There is a box next to me. I wonder what it is. My wife's boyfriend Julio said I would get a surprise for being a good boi. ;3 When I open it, I see a gift wrapped around a big lump of gold. I immediately grab it out of the box, ripping the paper off of the package as quickly as possible. I then look in the box and see a piece of paper and a USB. At first I think it's a CD, but it's definitely a USB drive. I then slide the USB into the computer and power it on. [MSW] DOH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH. The veiny latino member entering my wife confuses me. Penises don't go in vaginas? I usually finish before then. I'm a cocksucker, not a lesbian. I flick the switch and the power light starts to blink. It then spits out the female main character of Pac-Man. [MSW] Holy shit. I walk into the kitchen and see Julio grabbing my ass. I start to freak out and he picks me up off the ground and carries me into the bedroom. I start to squirm, and he smacks me hard on my ass. When he lays me on the bed, he places his dick in my mouth. "HARDER," I yell. He fucking starts to fuck my face. "FUCK MY DICK," I yell. I'm starting to get the hang of it when he yells again. I try to tell him to stop, but he doesn't. He keeps fucking my face. "OH GOD, I'M GOING TO CUM, I'M GOING TO CUM," I yell. I'm grabbing my penis to try to get some of it out, when I'm face down in bed. Julio walks into the room and asks me if I want to cum with him inside me. I'm hesitant at first, but then I take his dick in my hand and start stroking it. He takes the hint and starts to start kissing me. I'm playing with his balls. He asks me to flip over. I do, and he starts to fuck me from behind. I'm a squirter, so I accidentally get some in my eye. But I'm already wet, so he doesn't care. I keep orgasming, and I tell him I'm going to have another one. "MOVE YOUR BODY," he yells. He pulls out, comes on my ass and ass cracks, and throws his dick back in. I start to clean him off, and we talk about our relationship. "Let me show you something," he says, and he walks out of the room. I turn on my side to face him. I look up and see a huge plastic tarantula on his pillow. "Whaaaaaaaaa," I think. "How did that get here? He keeps a tight ship." He walks back in, wearing a black dress shirt, nothing underneath, and a pair of heels. "What's up?" he asks. I lay there confused. "Remember how I told you I have this gigantic tarantula I keep as a pet?" "Yeah. It was a bit of a surprise." "Well, I got him to work today. I had a client meeting, and I'm sitting in the reception area all nice and comfy, when all of the sudden, the tarantula starts crawling on my lap." "A-ha! I thought you might have a beard or something." "Nah, it's pretty thin. He was crawling on my legs." "WHAT?" "He kept doing it. Then, all of a sudden, I looked down and he was fucking me. Well, I don't know what he w-was doing. He wasn't ripping off pieces of my skin. He was just going in and out. And I wanted to get him off, so I pushed him off. He crawled away for a moment, then came crawling back to me." "I thought I was the one who had sex with you." "No, no. All this time, I was trying to figure out how I wasas doing. I didn't even realize he was fucking me, because I couldn't see shit." "Can you give me another one now?" "No, it's supposed to take a few hours. I'm supposed to be staying in for two more days. I just figured it would be fun to see you have to get in touch with your sexual side in a weird situation." "Ok. Thanks." We had a good laugh, and he walked out the door.

Yelp
The place is massive. Attended the CES and this was one of the sites. Security went smoothly. Plenty of space to walk aisles. The staff were helpful, even the sanitation and crossing guard staff

Yelp
This place never has an unlocked restroom for the employees. They make you walk 20 min to another building. They also never change the water filters which is unsanitary, especially during Covid. I'm sure it's because they want you to buy 4.00 water from them. For a place that grosses over a million a year your would think that they would do better. Is Clean water asking for too much. This facility doesn't even allow air conditioning for the working in the summer working in 110 plus weather.

Yelp
The convention center is much larger than I expected it to be. The staff is extremely friendly and the event space is kept very clean. I was there last week for UFC X and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
The Las Vegas Convention Center is one of the largest convention or congress centers in the world. My wife and I have attended trade shows (like NAB and CES), conferences (like old COMDEX), and various corporate events here over the years. It is massive yet flexible for rightsizing event space. Having a Las Vegas Monorail station nearby is convenient for getting around the Las Vegas Strip. But LVCC is also very tired. I'm glad to hear that a two-year renovation project gets underway in 2023 to upgrade the North, Central and South halls.

Yelp
Disjointed but spacious - I do admire how a location can accommodate 18,246 participants at one time, over a series of 4 to 5 days. So kudos to the convention center for having the facilities, the gigantic rooms and smaller rooms to accommodate everyone. However, it is somewhat confusing and their signage is limited so you may get disoriented sometimes, even if you have a good sense of direction or have a map. I strongly suggest wearing comfortable running shoes because I accumulated over 17,000 steps on a few days. All in all, I can't think of another venue in Vegas that can host something like this, without any issues. The place is airy and bright and the restrooms are well maintained. I've always taken a shuttle bus from my hotel, so getting in and out has never been an issues. It's proximity to everything is great. You can also easily get back to the airport from here.

Yelp
Had the opportunity to attend a conference at the new west hall expansion at the convention center. Ample parking, but I utilized the event shuttle. 3 floors with many event spaces ranging in different sizes. It's a lot of walking so be prepared. Borderline freezing so would suggest a light jacket or cardigan. There is a food court with 4 different restaurants to choose from as well as a Dunkin' for all your caffeine needs. I ordered lunch from Walla Pao. Had the eggplant tofu stir fry with brown rice. It was healthy and actually tasted pretty good. But for $15 the portion is rather small. There is plenty of seating area by the food court for a normal day, but with the conference, all the spots were taken since everyone is trying to be respectful of social distancing.

Yelp
This is the largest convention center I have ever seen. We were here for World of Concrete. Hard to believe it was even BIGGER than the last time we came. I cannot even fathom how big the Convention Center will be after they are done with the EXPANSION. I'm going to need a scooter to get around. I wish I was kidding! This is a great place for a convention. Highly recommend it!

Yelp
As this is written, the Las Vegas Convention Center is being utilized as a second shot vaccination site for both the Moderna and Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines. Because we could only secure a reserved second shot appointment here five weeks or more beyond the date of our first Moderna dose, Diane and I decided to take our chances in entering the walk-in line on our target date exactly 28 days after we were both initially inoculated. We left home at 9:00 a.m.; snagged the only parking space I saw as a car pulled out; and entered the walk-in line at precisely 9:28 a.m. As we did, I heard a male voice say, "There are no guarantees!" For if that day's supply of vaccine ran out, we would be sent home empty-handed--which we knew going in. Yet we were determined to try to get our second jab as close to the ideal target date as possible. And, despite it being a grueling experience, just as on our first encounter we were very lucky this day. The line that grew to about 140 people did not move at all for one hour. Then someone in a FEMA jacket came out with a wooden sign reading "STOP" in red letters; began counting us off; and planted the sign in front of about 20 people at the back of the line, first telling them "I apologize but no walk-ins can be accepted after this point." Then he shouted to everyone in front of the sign that we were all guaranteed a shot this day but would have to be patient, and apologized for the wait. At this point we had no idea how long the total wait would be but were all encouraged that we would each receive a shot, which made whatever further delay we would face acceptable to Diane and me. As circumstances turned out, it was quite a wait! Shortly after the FEMA person made his announcement, a group of 50 of us were let through a convention center door. Another hour later a second group of 50 were let through, including us. The door was then closed 10 persons behind us, with only 20 more remaining outside. Then we weaved around in a curving line, being allowed to officially register and receive our needed personal bar code. Just before I reached a desk manned by two FEMA employees, my bar code slipped away on my smart phone as I was trying to confirm my email address, and I was unable to get it back. But one of the two employees told me it was no problem; he would restore it. And he basically started the registration process over, and got me a new bar code showing on the screen. This time I resolved not to do anything to disturb it, and holstered my phone. After we passed this desk, we were next directed to the Moderna line that included both walk-ins and those with appointments, and was many hundreds of people long. Unlike the very short Pfizer line, this line ran from the front of the convention center to the very rear, and then looped almost all the way back--longer than any previous Disneyland line, and longer than any airport security check line I had experienced even on an early Monday morning. After reaching this line about 30 minutes after entering the convention center, it took us 3-1/2 more hours to gradually move along and receive our shots, including only one 3-minute restroom break 5 hours after we first arrived in line. Just as we were about to enter the room where injections were given, a woman called out, "No more walk-ins; appointments only." Since we were given an appointment upon receiving a bar code, we didn't know our current status. But before any issue arose, Diane and I were asked to show our respective bar codes, and were waved on in. The line now was noticeably much shorter, and about 20 minutes later we reached the shot stations. There were about 8 such stations simultaneously administering the Moderna vaccine. My male shot giver was friendly, gave me my choice of arms, and asked me to relax my right arm just before inserting the vaccine. I barely felt the liquid going in--even less than for the first shot. The needle went in my arm at exactly 3:27 p.m.--so 5 hours and 56 minutes total time in line end to end, plus 15 minutes sitting in a socially distanced chair for required observation time. Afterward Diane had a pins & needles headache that night, and, other than I feeling four sharp jolts like electric current at the vaccination site for a couple of seconds right after going to bed, and both of us having sore right arms for two days, we suffered no other side effects besides aching backs and legs from standing and walking continuously morning and afternoon. We were lucky to get our second shot when we did, because the vaccination site rules change constantly, and we were in the very last group of walk-ins to receive a vaccination at the convention center. It has since been announced that no more walk-ins will be accepted. Everyone eligible must now have a first or second shot appointment date and time reserved either online at covid.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/vaccine/distribution/ or via telephone at (702) 759-1900.
