Last Place On Earth

What a gem! Last Place On Earth is the best! The answer is yes, you want to come here, yes you want to spend time here, and yes you want to have so much fun gaming here! I visited Last Place on Earth for the first time for my birthday to play a D&D one shot. Whitney, the owner greeted us with kindness and openness. The store is absolutely stunning with welcoming decorations, smartly set up gaming tables (covered in the perfect mats for gaming!), and floor to ceiling games! The vibe here is the childhood you saw in movies of people laughing and happy memories being made. Our game master John was phenomenal--poor guy didn't let allergies stop him, he brought the game to life with amazing voices and fast-thinking creativity! It was truly a gift to spend time in a place that blends art with storytelling, creativity with space to feel welcome, and a pragmatic lay-out with fun. I am truly in awe of this game shop bringing joy and goodness to the world. While we were enjoying our one shot game one customer tried to shake down Whitney to spend more time in the shop without paying *and* add in more people who had just arrived. As a community we should consider the importance of taking good care of spaces like Last Place on Earth--it's a small business that has to pay rent, replace games, stock snacks, pay taxes, etc. It's easy to take what Whitney has built for granted, it feels magical. But Whitney and her crew puts heart and a lot of work into making Last Place on Earth a bastion for anyone and everyone who loves games. Be kind, support a great business, and be cool honeybunny.

I discovered this place about a year ago and absolutely love it. Their staff had amazing recommendations for new games to try. What really sold it though was being able to come in and play games for super cheap! The staff will help you learn if you don’t know already and the atmosphere is so welcoming and inviting. It even gave me the courage to try DnD finally. I’m now hooked and look forward to coming in weekly to play. And my wife and kid love coming to play new games too. No notes. About as perfect as a game shop can get.

Don’t waste your time coming here. The owner seems far more interested in squeezing out every possible penny than treating customers with basic respect. We were a group of four whose game time ended a little before 10pm. Two more friends arrived later and paid for their own 2-hour slot, so we simply wanted to wait for them to finish their game. The place had only another group other than us, we had already returned our board games, and it was obvious we weren’t planning to play anymore or we were blocking other groups's play time. Instead of letting us sit quietly and wait, the owner kept telling us that we either had to leave or pay an additional $15 each. She was rude, dismissive, and completely unwilling to listen when we tried explaining that we were just waiting for our friends. As a result, our two friends were forced to stop their game halfway through and leave with us. I understand businesses have policies, but good businesses also require common sense—and some basic courtesy. When it comes to the place, it really has a very good selection of board games, but it is unfortunately managed by the wrong people. Not a place I’d recommend if you expect to be treated with any kind of respect. Leaving two and not one star just for the wide selection of the games.

I love Last Place! I’d been wanting to try D&D for a while and really appreciate all they do to hire DMs, connect new players and organize campaigns for anyone who wants to try! I’ve been playing in a campaign for a few months now and have so much fun with the new friends I’ve made. The vibes are impeccable, very cozy and welcoming. Whether you’re in for D&D or their general board game open play, I think it’s well worth the price to make sure they can keep this lovely community space and that staff and DMs are paid fairly for all the work they put in.

I can’t recommend The Last Place on Earth enough. I joined looking for a D&D campaign, and Whitney—who runs the space—made the entire process incredibly easy. She is one of the nicest, most welcoming people you’ll meet, and she’s created an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone truly feels comfortable showing up as themselves. The community she’s built is fantastic: creative players, kind people, and a real sense of shared adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned TTRPG player or totally new to the hobby, this is a place where you’ll feel right at home.

I came to Last Place two years ago when I wanted to learn how to play D&D. It quickly became a regular hang for me. I come in once a week now (both here and at their new location, Third Place from the Sun in DUMBO). It’s one of those increasingly rare places in NYC: a homegrown local business that has become a communal hub for people from all walks of life. You can feel the good vibes as soon as you walk through the door. If you’re looking for a new D&D campaign, meet some fellow TTRPG enthusiasts, or just a fun place to try out some board games with friends, look no further. You’re home.

I’ve been playing weekly D&D for a bit here and o absolutely love it! The community is super welcoming and friendly. The owner was also very responsive and patient, when I had lots and lots of questions about joining one of the D&D games. Highly recommend you check it out for a board game date night, or for getting into RPGs!

I love this place. Whitney so obviously goes above and beyond to accommodate people and make sure everyone feels invited to the space. I’ve wanted to play D&D (and had the opportunity to play) for years but it took coming to the shop, talking to Whitney and feeling how safe and inviting it felt in the store to made me want to play at Last Place and now I’m on my 3rd campaign. Also the selection of board games is phenomenal, like truly a ton.

Rarely have I felt so welcomed when casually walking in to a business as I did when visiting LPOE. It is a brightly lit and energetically decorated space allowing for a sense of instant comfort. It strikes a balance between accommodating seasoned gamers and welcoming the newly initiated. Quite simply, everyone was happy and felt safe enough to slip in to whatever world they chose. I've visited many gaming shops throughout NYC and this is the only one I felt compelled to write a review for. The sense of community so central to tabletop gaming is captured perfectly here. Go!

My partner and I forgot to bring a two-player game for our NYC weekend trip. We love spending weekend mornings playing two-player games at coffee shops. We decided to come to Last Place on Earth to fix that. ***LOCATION*** Located in Brooklyn near McCarren Park. ***EXPERIENCE*** This warmly lit board game cafe and shop was so charming and cozy. They had a nice selection of board games, witchy products, and cute stuff to browse through. They also had a good amount of games if you wanted to stay and play (which we did not get the chance to this visit). We came in knowing we wanted to buy either Jaipur or Patchwork. We ended up getting Jaipur which I'm so happy we did. Loved buying it from a local shop too. ***CONCLUSION*** Very cute board game cafe with lots of cute items besides games. Would try to come back and play games and get drinks on the next visit.

I effing loved this place. A freaking board game cafe is a fantasy I've had lately. It finally came true. I had a great time playing with my homies. They even let me bring in outside food because I was starving. We need more of this exact energy.

Amazing game selection, clean; homely. Small business and great service. They also host great events for community involvement such as Dungeons and Dragons for Ladies and Theydies!!

Took a train trip to visit my brother and his wife in brooklyn NY. He recommended meeting at the last place on earth to participate in tabletop game playing. Cute little corner shop, set up to play games for a small fee and/or purchase games. Today the place was packed with game players, ranging from adults to kids. Everyone was conversing and laughing. Great vibes and my caramel latte was incredible.

Giving this place some love because it's so great. Owner is very kind and accommodating. You can do BYOB which always makes it a little more interesting. They have almost any game you could want for all types of game play/age groups. They also have a variety of activities during the week to check out!
