13 Essential Charleston Bars for Cocktails, Beer, Wine

"Off-the-beaten-path bar Last Saint can play a lot of roles. It can be a quiet after-work spot for a well-made martini or a rollicking sundown space for a Mexican cold brew (think an espresso martini with tequila and Licor 43). Owner Joey Goetz is a bit of a legend in Charleston for his time at the Belmont and Bar George (plus his Get Down warehouse parties), and when he went off on his own, he made a bar that locals love and tourists can still feel welcome." - Erin Perkins

11 Best Bars for a Very Cold Martini in Charleston

"The menu changes seasonally at hip bar Last Saint, but right now, you’ll find an Isle of Santorini martini, which is described as “A gin martini returns from sun-kissed island hopping in Greece.” The addition of mastiha and orange bitters gives it the summers-in-Europe taste. The menu also offers mini martinis for $9. The soundtrack is always great here, so feel free to linger in the sound and sip." - Erin Perkins

Loved Last Saint in Charleston, South Carolina. The service was incredible. The bartenders were swift, friendly and accommodating. The drinks were so well thought out and had amazing drink profiles. I loved everything we had. Safe word and old salt were just delicious. Can’t wait to go back and try other drinks.

Google
This bar had a very intimate and friendly atmosphere. They had a really good music playlist that was eclectic. The cocktails were amazing 👏🏾 Everything we ordered was original, dynamic and strong. Everything on the menu looked really good. I highly recommend the Abuelita(smoky, slightly spicy & aromatic), Witch Doctor(sweet & tropical), In Bloom(creamy & balanced) and Daisy Chain(sweet & floral).

Google
One of the best cocktails drinks in Charleston off the strip near King Street. Loved the buzzing and electric vibe. There is another speakeasy inside the bar - Annexe. Drinks are hard and soft the way you like it. We had the following : Ginger #3 Mezcal throttled up with a refreshing kick. Mezcal, Raw Ginger, Fresh Lime, Pineapple, Cayenne The Admiral Take charge and set sail with this complex bittersweet sipper, Reposado Tequila, Mezcal, Pedro Ximenez Sherry, Braulio, Zibernz A Bespoke Mezcal, Sherry and Dash of Orange 🍊

Google
We stopped in for drinks before dinner, in the Annex- the concept is all Bartender’s choice drinks, and everything we had was delicious! Bartender was super personable and explained what he was serving. Very cool/intimate atmosphere!

Google
What an Incredible bar! Andrew in the back room of the Annex is a wizard amongst those who sling phenomenal cocktails! I will be taking everyone who visits me down in Charleston here from now on, 10/10 would recommend.

Google
Always a stop for me while in Charleston to see what new bottles they have on the bar. Neta was lovely. Cheers LS staff 🙏🏻 Edit: Still my favorite spot to grab a drink and chat with friends. Staff still doing an awesome job

Google
Really, really loved this spot! Apart from having super creative cocktails, the service was above and beyond. Our server was so personable and gave us some great recommendations while visiting. Great place for a cocktail if you’re in the area!

Google
Loved Last Saint and the Annex! My group of friends and I enjoyed all of our drinks and the experience of a menu-less bar in the Annex was super fun. The space in the Annex is dark, romantic and intimate so I can imagine it would be great for a date night. Thanks to our server Bri for a great night!

Yelp
I booked a reservation for the Annex in the back of this tiny little spot, not knowing what to expect. When we arrived, the bartender sent me in the direction of entry, and we were let in and seated in a dark, speak easy feel, room. The server informed us there are no cocktail menus. She has a conversation with each of you as you tell her your cocktail profile likes.. and she then takes her notes to the bartender/ mixologist and you are surprised with a cocktail tailored just for you...such fun, spot on, and I can't wait to go again.

Yelp
I came in here with a group of friends for a reservation at the annex. It is a small cozy room in the back of the Last Saint bar. There is bar seating and three booths in this area. The bartender/server makes cocktails based upon words or descriptions, rather than picking a drink off of the menu. It is an interesting concept and the drinks I had were good. I do think the service could be a little better But as busy as this place is, it's difficult to give impeccable service.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I've been here and I honestly missed their menu. When I came a few years ago they had a great menu with a wide range of unique cocktails. Now they make cocktails based on conversation and neither of us were overly pleased or excited about the drinks we had. I think there could be a disconnect because a waiter is having the conversation with you not the actual bartenders. It also took us forever to get inside. Someone came out to use the restroom and that's the only reason someone came to the door despite us ringing the door bell several times and having a reservation. The vibe is still good for a date night but not sure if I will come back because the drinks were a miss.

Yelp
Be warned - they take reservations but do not have a number to call in case you are running late. Our resy was still accommodated even though we were in the 30 minutes late...! Super grateful for that because the bar outside was loud and crowded. Our server asked us what we liked for 2 rounds of drinks and they came back with an amazing array of options. I especially loved the Flamingo drink! Definitely would recommend getting a resy here!

Yelp
Highly recommended by cocktail loving co-workers, I visited the Last Saint twice - once in the main bar and once in the Annex. I loved this place. Located just a little off the people heavy King Street Last Saint had a front room which is very grandma-chic, like a bar met an antique store and had a kid, and a back room, the Annex, which is mellow, intimate, and delightful. The difference is that the front bar has a fixed menu of delightful cocktails and the Annex doesn't believe in menus. They need no menus because they are awesome. Both visits I had a great time. The Last Saint offers amazing, inventive cocktails while acknowledging the classics with all the hospitality I enjoy in Charleston. I was shocked to find that I was remembered from my first trip. I don't consider myself noteworthy, so I was taken off guard with the recognition. It was such an amazing experience!

Yelp
4.5 stars! Quaint little place with awesome ambiance. It doesn't stop there, as the specialty drink menu is outstanding. Ordered the LSD #7 and Line in the Sand. Both outstanding drinks! Kathy was a friendly young lady with an infectious personality. We went during off peak hours, so it was quiet. It's a small place with a Speak Easy in the back. The Speak Easy is only open on weekends, and you need a reservation on Resy. I'm sure it gets very crowded in the front bar, so arrive early or go during the week. We'll worth the visit.

Yelp
11/10 coming back. This place was amazing - we made a reservation online. When you arrive, you go to the back and knock on the door to get let in. Once you're in, you're seated. The place is dimly lit and pretty intimate. Someone asked us what we generally like to drink so that they could make us drinks that best suited us. I have to say that the spritz they made me was perfection. I'd come back to Charleston just to go back to Last Saint!

Yelp
This is a quaint little cocktail spot that you need to put on your list! It's nestled in an unassuming spot downtown, but the cocktails are *chefs kiss* and the service is outstanding. We've been here a couple of times, and they usually change up the menus, however they do have their staples. This time, we ordered the Family Crest, which is their signature old fashioned, the Pinwheel, and the Old Salt. All were perfectly crafted and looked beautiful. We had several others with us, and all the cocktails were to die for. We even had someone with us who wasn't super into cocktails, and the server took the time to ask about what she liked and he was super knowledgeable and accommodating. The space itself is on the smaller side and has about 8 bar seats and several tables. We were able to pull some together for our group of 5 without a problem. There was some soft music and dim lighting to escape from the heat and hustle of Charleston as you enjoy your perfectly made cocktail. Make sure to put this spot on your list while you enjoy your downtown Charleston experience!

Yelp
Last Saint had some decent cocktails but put our name on list for Annex and they closed w/o any notification on system when waiting for table. Would have left an hour earlier had they notified. Terrible service. One star.

Yelp
Amazing bar with such a cool speakeasy. Make a reservation for the Annex @ Last Saint, when you arrive head straight to the back and ring the doorbell for the Annex. Once you get back there it is so cool. There is no drink menu and the bartender makes you a custom drink based on your palate and preferences. Such an amazing experience, you must go if you are doing drinks in Charleston!

Yelp
We loved the upscale hole in the wall cocktail club. The ambiance was cozy and the service was amazing. The drinks were fantastic!

Yelp
This place is off the beaten path and worth it! I got the ginger #3 drink. The ginger def brings a lot of kick. The bartender was super nice and inviting. Apparently there's a speakeasy part that doesn't have a menu and the bartenders just ask what type of drinks you like and make it for you. This place is super dark and fun for a relaxed or... rambunctious night.

Yelp
I had read that Last Saint was a recent hot spot in Charleston and one of the city's best cocktail lounges. The bar was open every day between 5 pm and 2 am, so we knew we would be able to squeeze in a drink at some point during our stay. We were able to get there on a weekday evening shortly after they opened for the day, and we discovered that those rave reviews were correct. We entered the dimly lit, seductive lounge and grabbed seats at the bar. Besides one other man, we had the bar and friendly bartenders all to ourselves. I started by ordering the Ginger # 3, a fiery blend of Ojo de Tigre Mezcal, raw ginger, fresh pineapple, fresh lime, and cayenne. The drink really packed a kick. After I finished that beverage, the bartender offered to make me something custom based on my preferences. He stated that the bar was actually known for doing that sort of improv. So, I indulged him and received a drink that was similar to the first one, but was lighter and sweeter, containing more pineapple, some soda water, and less spice. The bar also offered a hidden, more exclusive speakeasy on weekends that I would love to visit one a future trip. Last Saint for sure lived up to the hype.

Yelp
The first time we came to the last saint was my husbands birthday. We had 2 drinks out front while we waited to be taken into the speakeasy at the back (annex) where we had reservations. My husband had the Mexican coffee based cocktail and I had a citrus and tequila based one. Really good and well balanced! It only got better when we met Dominic; the bar tender on Friday night at annex. He asked us what spirits we wanted and flavors we favored and did some magic! Me and my husband had about 5 cocktails each and all of them hit. It was my first time trying a gin fizz and it ended up being my favorite. He's extremely talented and a very cool character. We came back when some of our friends from Florida were in town and made sure to make reservations on a Friday so we could catch him again! Again, he was on point and we had a great time. If you have friends in town or are just looking for somewhere to get some quality cocktails, this is your spot! Guaranteed to impress any crowd. Easily the best drinks I've ever had.

Yelp
Very good romantic spot. Music is awesome! Andrew is the man, all staff is nice. Drinks are 10/10 highly recommend. 12/10 for date night

Yelp
Interior wise its is very cute, trendy and cozy. There is bar seating as well as some small tables. The speakeasy is in the back. Apparently they take reservations for that? However, they absolutely blast the music. It's small inside so there is truly no need to be that loud. Theres no dance floor etc. it was odd. I loved the look of the menu, the drinks are sketched out and are super unique. I had a really bad experience with our bartender. She was curt, unfriendly and just not welcoming. I ordered a First Name Basis. She made a completely different drink. She set it in front, I knew but didnt want to be rude. So I asked oh is this First Name Basis. Without hesitation she was like ya. My friend asked to try it and I said well this is chocolatey. I knew it was a different drink I was thinking about. THATS when she was like oh no thats this drink. I have something in my eye.... Either way both drinks were too strong and disliked both. She also made my friends their dirty martinis, one with gin and one with vodka. She mixed them up placing them down in front of them and literally shrugged. It was rude, dismissive and I was very over it by then.

Yelp
Removed from the tourist traps ( a good thing) this place offers quality cocktails with friendly service. They have a number of house menu cocktails but can also shake or stir any of the classics. You also should ask about the bartenders choice for the evening. on our visit we both had a twist on an old fashioned (cannot recall the name) that was very savory and had a very slight butterscotch flavor to it.. quite excellent. i understand that on the weekends they have an annex bar that is a different vibe from the front bar that is accessible by reservation which we have not tried but frankly I am happy with the front bar.

Nanci Z.

Yelp
The private speakeasy bar (Annex) in the back was perfect to celebrate our wedding anniversary! The bartender (Dominic) was exceptional...He was very detailed with the craft cocktails and very personable. We loved watching him do his thing!
google avatar

Lillie A.

Yelp
Last Saints has a very unique and well thought out cocktail menu. Bartenders were very friendly and can figure out cocktails for you based on talking to you about your preferences. Cool place very speakeasy vibes
google avatar

Judy E.

Yelp
In the back of Last Saint is a bar called the Annex. It is a small dark space that feels mysterious and exclusive. You have to have a reservation and ring a bell to get in. Inside, the bartenders make you a drink based on info you provide. Type of liquor; sweet, sour, bitter; other flavors; and tada you are given a drink! The cocktails were great. Don't get the same thing twice!!
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
A favorite new cocktail spot! Space is beautifully decorated, staff is nice and welcoming, and the cocktails were delicious!!!!! Do not be afraid to tell the bartenders what you like and have them make you a drink - I promise they don't disappoint. Based on my preferences they made me a riff on a traditional gin fizz - which was delicious! Then they made an impressive Ramos Gin Fizz (which they did not complain one bit about) and it was top of the line! Perfect spot for a drink before dinner- can't wait to return!

Yelp
Really liked this place! It kept coming up in lists of cocktail lounges to try, and I was happy we did. We got the Mexican Cold Brew cocktail, which I loved. It was a big size for a cocktail, but not overwhelming but just right. It was like a big gulp expresso martini...need I say more They also had Underberg :) Great place to hit after dinner to help digest The ambiance was cute, reminded me of some of the cocktail bars back in Brooklyn. Would recommend!

Sean T.

Yelp
We love this place! Great, thoughtfully composed cocktails, top notch service, and fun! It's easy to spend an evening here and not want to leave--comfortable and super vibey.

Yelp
Punk rock vibes with high brow drinks. Not too pricey, incredible service. Some of the best mixed drinks I have ever done had. Great music and very cool aesthetic as well. The. Best. Bar. In. Charleston. Hands all the way down.

Robert S.

Yelp
Waited for an Uber outside and got called zesty by a guy in a straight piped Honda accord. 10/10

Courtney F.

Yelp
My favorite place in Charleston! The Annex, which requires reservations is in the back & is so fun. There is no menu and they make you a drink based off a few questions. Each drink I've had is amazing. The bartenders are nice & welcoming. Wish I could take this place back home with me!
google avatar

Jonathan Z.

Yelp
Best cocktails in Charleston. Dom is a magician! Can't wait to go back next time I'm in town.

Kate H.

Yelp
Such a cool experience at the Annex. Dark and moody speak easy vibes in an intimate setting with ~12 total seats or so. The bar tenders are super knowledgeable and creative -- you give them your spirit preference and they'll ask a couple questions to get an idea of your likes / dislikes to help create the perfect blend. Worth a stop for sure! Great pre dinner cocktail spot.

Madeleine L.

Yelp
Male server is rude, uncouth and odious. He spoke to us in a very demeaning tone and it continued all evening. We felt very uncomfortable. The female server had to be our bartender and server do to his hostility. Drinks were good overall but the ambience and seating is just lacking and nothing special. A bit tight that it was difficult not to feel like you are seated with the other people in the tables next to us. After our poor treatment we won't be returning. Sad this is how that man has to behave in public.

D P.

Yelp
Great attention to detail and the art of the cocktail. We traveled all the way from Chicago to come here. Not disappointed
google avatar

Nellah B.

Yelp
Honestly, this place has great drinks, great service and awesome vibes. We went to Last Saint multiple times during our visit because we enjoyed it so much.
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
One of my favorite bars in town. Dom ( bartender) is a gem. It's defiantly the best cocktail bar in town. The old salt is amazing. And the speakeasy in the back has different cocktails than the front. You're missing out if you haven't checked out last Saint by now!
google avatar

Cristina G.

Yelp
Small venue but the drinks are great. Went here for a night out with girlfriends. The cocktail sizes were generous and they packed a bit of a punch but in a good way. Even in pouring rain this place was still packed. The staff was really friendly and they offered great suggestions based on our preferences. There's no parking offered by the venue itself so we had to walk a but to get there. Very trendy interior. I could see this place being great for a cute date for couples, and nice spot for friends in the evening or even happy hour.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
This place is so cool....Very trendy and has the best cocktails. I didn't order from the menu and gave the bartender (Dominic) a short list of what I like and he created a cocktail for me. Great atmosphere! We came before dinner and loved it so much we decided to come back after our dinner reservation. Highly recommend for great cocktails and vibe

James H.

Yelp
Generously rude bouncer (not in a cool way) I'm not a yelper (I think ya'll are dorks) but I was bummed out by the vibe I'lll never come back and will create a yelp account just to convey how there are way better cocktail clubs nearby. Go to Royal American. First review. What up. To elaborate. We were gracious customers, no last call warning (the light thing) all of a sudden they start kicking people out (totally normal) *but we called our Uber the moment we see people leaving* my girlfriend (underdressed ((birthday))) was shivering furiously I offered her my jacket which left me in short sleeve. I went back into the door to graciously ask in kindness that we wait inside until our Uber came (9min) the bouncer looked begrudgingly from the barstool and denied my request. Internally I burned with the anger of 7 suns but I bit my tongue and accepted his rejection. Outside on the sidewalk, observing my anxious and hopeful company I explained the situation. Although the cold had overcome us already there was nothing left to say but wait a brutal 10 minutes until evacuation. It was taken with uttermost disappointment. Amongst all the bars in Charleston SC this is a very quaint and small establishment. I couldn't help but wonder if it was the impatience of the staff, was it the sheer burden of working f&b for a full shift, or was it something more sinister was burning inside the gatekeeper of Last Saint they call the bouncer. Nonetheless, my advice for you, Yelp reader - call an Uber at like 1am (they aren't fun behind the bar) And the bouncer is lonely, so someone relieve the pressure please (for all of us). Drinks are like 6/10.

Yelp
Small, understated, cool, relaxed cocktail bar. Serious 80's playlist. I asked for a wild and crazy riff on the old fashioned. I had a Haitian divorce, wife had a paper plane. Both excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
The Last Saint on Meeting Street in Charleston is a cool spot for drinks. I really like the location and atmosphere that they have created here with then menu and design. Everything is very laid back and relaxed here and you can enjoy everything while you are here. I have enjoyed coming here.
google avatar

Heidi R.

Yelp
Glad we were able to check out this new spot which only opened 6 weeks ago while visiting! We didn't try the snacks but the options looked perfect for drinking. Cocktails were all great and we especially enjoyed doing a round of bartenders choice -- he nailed it. Lighting was PERFECT even if the menus were a little hard to read. We will likely return even though it's a short visit. Definitely check it out.

Rick Y.

Yelp
Best cocktails in town! Maura is a legend who makes a great cocktail that cures cancer and uplifts the soul

Holly S.

Yelp
Great little cocktail bar. They even have a speakeasy within the bar that makes drinks based on your taste. Small so definitely need reservations. Amazing cocktails.

Marissa L.

Yelp
I must be missing something. No parking. Bad service. Overpriced cocktails. Weird vibes. Not sure how long this place will last.

Virginia M.

Yelp
Great drinks helpful fun bartenders unpretentious cocktails with a great location close to a lot of other fun spots

Kate W.

Yelp
The bar you want to go to for the drink that is right for you. The bar is the best in Charleston. Joey and the bartenders here can make anything. But have the cielo.
