Lasyone's Meat Pie Restaurant

If you enjoy Crawfish Pie, this is the place to go! The Crawfish Pie is outstanding! Their other menu items are outstanding as well! Very good, fast and friendly service. The prices are very reasonable with large servings that will fill you up! The restaurant is a time capsule! The walls are adorned with historical photos and documents dating back to 1967 that highlight the restaurant and it's owners. You will not be disappointed!

Loved the small town cafe feel when we walked in. Even though it was outdated, it was clean and the staff was very kind and friendly. I noticed the painting from Clementine Hunter so I was excited to see that picture right where we sat. My friend and I wanted to experience the meat pie specifically from here because it happened to be in my 1000 places to see before you die book. We were both a little disappointed with it but realized it was towards the end of the day so the crust was just not that good. May have to do a do over and come in more towards 11 or 12 pm. Now as for the red beans and rice with the sausage now that was the bomb diggity! We split it and so glad we did because we were so full. The only reason we gave 4 stars was due to that sad meat pie.

I recently tried the Meat Pie platter, Gumbo, beef stew and creole pasta salad here. The flavors were definitely a highlight – everything tasted great! My only real critique is that the serving sizes were quite small. If you're looking for a filling meal, you might need to order multiple dishes or sides.

Food is delicious! I'm not from Louisiana but I felt like a local eating here. I got the breakfast meat pie with grits, and omg! So good! The service was excellent and friendly. So were the ppl eating in there. Super friendly place. Highly recommend

This was my 1st time going after hearing really good things about this place. I had 1 meat pie w/ onion rings. The meat pie was bigger than I expected. The onion rings were fantastic! The place is small and cozy. Service was good. I don't really understand the meat pie hype. I would go again probably for the onion rings mostly tbh.

So happy we chose to eat here. I had the meat pie and dirty rice. So delicious! My husband had the crawfish meat pie, which he said was also very good. Will make a point to stop again if I’m in the area.

Second time here, had breakfast. Shrimp n grits were fantastic. Grits were so creamy and nice with lots of shrimp. Their meat pies are also delicious.

We stopped by for lunch while on a road trip. We arrived 30 minutes before they closed and the food was still amazing! We tried the meat pie, onion rings, and gumbo. All dishes were amazing and the staff were very friendly! This place is the best and I recommend trying it out!

I have a friend who is a certified FREAK for these pies, so naturally, we took a detour on our road trip to try the real deal! We JUST missed breakfast (cue sad face ), so we had to pivot to lunch -- but we're troopers, so we made it work. We decided to split the onion rings and gumbo (which comes with cornbread fresh outta the oven -- yes please), and we each got a meat pie. Surprise -- we over-ordered! HA. The meat pie was the highlight for me -- freshly fried, crispy on the outside, but the filling could've used a few more seconds in the fryer to get that piping hot goodness. It was just warmish -- but still fantastic. Had it been hotter? Game over. The gumbo was also tasty with big chunks of sausage and chicken -- solid comfort food vibes. The onion rings, which some Yelpers were raving about, were...fine. Nothing to write home about, but they did the job. Our server was a total doll -- super sweet and quick with refills. Service was fast and friendly, which always scores points. Now, about the bathroom... let's just say it's a "get in and get out" situation. It's tucked back through the supply room and gives off serious "don't linger" vibes. But hey, you're here for the pies, not a spa day, right? All in all, we left full, happy, and with a renewed appreciation for fried goodness. Would I go back? Oh yeah -- but maybe I'd time it better for breakfast next time!

The first and only positive was the service. It was outstanding, The waitresses hustled and never stopped moving. But the food? Absolutely terrible. I'm a Louisiana native. I know what meat pies are supposed to taste and look like. What I was served was a flat burnt possibly reheated piece of dough with not much meat. It was disgusting. It's an embarrassment it was even allowed to leave the kitchen. The onion rungs weren't even close to homemade. Looked they came straight from the Wal-Mart freezer section, We had three other people at my table. They didn't like their meals, either. Maybe this iconic restaurant just having a bad day. But it won't get my business ever again.

First the good - the food we ordered was tasty however the temperature was slightly lower than what could have been. Now for the unfortunate- the service was perhaps the worst i have experienced in the past couple of years and i eat out 2-3 times per week. Our waitress was disinterested in paying attention to our needs. 1. Left the table without one of us being able to place drink order. 2. 25 min from time of drink order until able to order meal. 3. Failed to place to go order. 4 40 min from time of order until meal arrived. 5. Was finally able to place missed drink order 25 min later. 6. Asked about to go order and was told that she would check. 7. One hour into this not one drink refill. 8. Asked for to go container for food 3 times and never received it. 9. Brings ticket and says they are out of the red beans and rice to go order. In frustration i stated that would have been nice to know an hour ago. Still no to go container. After another 10 min waiting we get up and head to register where several others were complaining about being out of food selections and poor service. The lady who checked us out was very kind and offered to not charge us for the meal. I have been to this restaurant 4-5 times over the past several years and moat of the time i would consider it an acceptable experience. This visit has me giving strong consideration to not returning to visit

The crawfish pie was the tastiest option of the things ordered for the table. I would order that, and only that, again. Everything else was just ok. Nothing too impressive. If you've never had a Natchitoches meat pie, this is the place to try one. Service was fast and the employees were welcoming and friendly. That was appreciated. It's a small place but they've been able to utilize the space effectively to accommodate larger groups if needed. Getting to the bathroom is tricky. My advice? Just hold it until you get home if you can. Overall, it's just a stop on the tour for me. I wouldn't have to go again.

From out of town and was up early looking for a place to eat. I liked that it was open haha. The staff was sweet. The food was ok. The meat pie was good and had good flavor but was just warm, not hot. The "hash browns " were old fries just mashed up a bit. It was cold and honestly made me a little sick. Overall, there's not much in this town so I made it work.

I love a good hearty southern home cooked breakfast. This spot reminded me of my grandmothers' cooking. This is a nice, old school restaurant. Don't expected any bells and whistles but you will get good food and good service. The breakfast menu is stacked with options so there's something for everyone. I decided to go with the three egg southern omelet with grits and a side of Louisiana smoked sausage. Everything was delicious. I couldn't even finish it all! My friends also enjoyed their meals. The sausage and the grits were a big hit at the table. Our waitress was great. I'm looking forward to returning the next time I'm in town.

This is a must visit restaurant in Natchitoches! We had meat pies and crawfish étouffée.

This was the prime example of good ole down south belly filling food. The servers were so polite and sweet! They knew what to recommend and the recommendations were spot on. I don't think anyone in our group had any complaints about their selection. The only issue we really has was how full we were afterwards! I will definitely be back when we come back down to Natchitoches.

It is located a nice area. Downtown is awesome but they missed the mark on the food. Service was great. I was greeted with the friendly and kind southern hospitality you would expect from a little town in Louisiana, but the food hard. Order the omelette by recommendation of the waitress the veggies were diced rather large and undercooked almost raw. The grits were solidifying (not sure if that's a word) when they served it to me. The toast was burnt and also untoasted and the hashbrowns were raw. I was hungry and I had a game I had to get to so I ate what I could and it kindly took off the additional hashbrowns I ordered.

I went here for a take out order. The lady at the counter was very friendly and order came out fast and hot. My husband tried one of their meat pies. He personally didn't think it had enough seasoning, but said it was perfectly crispy. I ordered the appetizer order of shrimp and grits with a side of cajun dirty rice. It was amazing! The dirty rice had just the right amount of seasoning, with the heat at the back end of it. But the shrimp and grits were the winner in my book! I would go back for that again and again!!!

Meat pie platter was wonderful. Got the dirty rice and cabbage. Delicious. I did get the cane river pie for desert and it was great as well.

We are The Gourmet Club of DeRidder, Louisiana. Our theme this year is "Famous Louisiana Restaurants". As one of our 3 choices this year we chose Lasyone's Meat Pie Kitchen in the beautiful City of Natchitoches. We truly loved it! The food was Wonderful, the service is great and the current owner (Angela Lasyone) went out of her way to make it a memorable experience by sharing the history of her family business with our group. My personal favorites: The Meat Pies are a Must, The Rice Dressing is Delicious, the homemade vinaigrette is to die for. The Deserts are Amazing.

Y'all I've had Shrimp and Grits my whole life but NEVER have I had them so delicious as they are here!! Slap your Momma Yummy!!

Man! What top notch Louisiana food. I drive an hour just to eat here. Everything is so tasty. Red beans & Rice...meat pies... catfish...creole dishes...like my grandmother used to cook.

Very casual atmosphere for our Saturday lunch. Feels like an old time diner. Tables close together but not on top of each other. Noise level is average. Drinks delivered quickly, and my spiced hot tea was amazing! Cinnamon and orange were the predominant flavors. Appetizer of Portabello (sp) swizzle sticks were good, just be sure you really like mushrooms before ordering. Side of ranch was nice, but not necessary. Also ordered an app of 2 corn fritters - served with lots of butter and honey - which were good. Note: be careful cutting. Mine flew to the floor as I attempted to use my fork. Our server was kind enough to replace. :) Lunch was a crawfish pie and dirty rice for my sister, and I added a side of fried okra. Everything was good but nothing outstanding. Ordered 2 sides of potato salad to go, because I was told it is homemade. Upon eating later, if it is homemade, it's not a taste I prefer. Too runny and very strong in relish juice. For $3.95/svg, I'd skip it next time. Overall, for the hype and recommendations, we left certain it wouldn't be on our revisit list.

Location is great! The service is good. The fritters were double fried and too greasy. The broccoli casserole was cold and over cooked. The meat pie was ok.

By the name of the restaurant, you might think there wouldn't be much on the menu for a non-meat eater. You (like me) would be wrong. The menu is filled with authentic Cajun dishes, and it was hard to pick just one! Since Lasyone's is famous for their meat pies, I went with something similar: crawfish pie. It, like the meat-filled counterpart, is a turnover type pie (hand pie) but the filling was very similar to crawfish etouffee. And it was so yummy! My friend got the Shrimp and Grits, which she declared was fantastic! I wish I lived closer because I'd really like to try more of the menu items. The restaurant itself is casual (table service, but pay at the cashier), and very busy.

Had to wait a bit to get a table and the food took a long time to get out. But once it did.... These meat pies are no joke and definitely worth the wait. The rest of the food was good too, and the waitress was pleasant and professional, but the meat pies. Definitely worth it. I knock off a star because of the wait and, when trying to pay, the girl working the register said she would be back in a minute and stayed gone for 5 while I stood there. I could see her in the kitchen but it didn't look like she was doing anything useful back there.

Everything is always good. From the Gumbo to the Meat Pies.... It's amazing. Try the Crawfish pie too. There is a really cool Building across the street that has awesome apartments in it.

I ordered hamburger steak with yellow rice, cabbage, pickle beets and cornbread! I love the new plates that are being used! However, my meat was hard and dried out! The beet juice ran all over the rice and cabbage! My entire plate was red! My recommendation is simple, drain the beets, don't overcook the meat and season the cabbage! This restaurant use to be a superb place to order food!

Mine was a take away order for one of Lasyone's meat pies, a ham and cheese sandwich for my husband. My niece had lived here going to school nearby and highly recommended them. So glad we stopped. Delicious! Freshly made and a unique treat for me. The service was friendly and others waiting for orders were as well. The ambiance is one of hometown quaint.

My husband took me there for our anniversary the service wasn't good. The server did not smile or have any enthusiasm when talking to us. The dirty rice was crunchy and tasted bad and didn't even eat any of it, the meat pie was too fried and the filling for the meat pie was sad. The bread and salad was the best part. The dessert we got didn't have any taste and it was dry. We are both from here and we were highly disappointed.

A bit expensive for what you get but the food is tasty. Try the gumbo and definitely the meat pie.

We knew we had to try this local favorite! Now we know why everyone has to have the meat pie. Fried to perfection with tasty meat on the inside. So glad we got to experience this!

We were told by family friends that we had to check this place out!! So glad we did!! Walked in and realized it's very "small town, easy going, this is where the locals go" type of place. Felt like we were barging in on their breakfast. Not in a bad way. Just could tell it was very local! Of course we came for the meat pie! You have to right?? They did not disappoint!!! Got the original and it came out hot and delicious!!! The crust was crispy and the filling was perfect!!! The meat and veggie mixture inside complimented each other so well!!! I loved the ambiance and small town feel!!! Everyone was chatting, enjoying coffee and delicious food, with no phones in sight!! It was wonderful!!! Im so glad our friends recommended this place to us!! It's like a little piece of how "it used to be". You pay at the counter and tip your waitress with cash. A truly precious find!!!

I couldn't go to Natchitoches and not stop in the iconic Lasyone's Meat Pie Restaurant. Just a block from the river, this quaint lunch spot is filled with a lot of great smells and great people. I was greeted and escorted to a small table in the main room, surrounded by local attorneys and sweaty tourists all coming together for the common goal of a good meal. Both my drinks attendant and the waitress were so attentive and sweet, offering suggestions to everyone who needed guidance. I went back and forth between the crawfish pie and the meat pie, and I landed on the crawfish pie with a side of red beans. it didn't take long before it was ready and at my table. Oh my goodness -- the flavors exploded. I wish I could have tried the meat pie, but the crawfish had the right amount of flavor where you could taste the Louisiana crawfish, but you also could taste the delicious filling with it. And as you'll see in the picture, the side order of red beans and rice overtook the plate. Not going to lie, I devoured it all. i was full as could be, but it gave me a second wind for take on the rest of the day. While there were many other places I really wanted to try that day, I am so glad I came here. Friendly staff, cute restaurant with lots of history flooding the walls, and mouth watering, stomach satisfying food to keep you full for hours to come. I see that you can also order their amazing meat pies on Goldbelly, so i may have to look into that so I can taste the meat pie!! Enjoy!

Absolutely wonderful meat pies. A must if you get to Natchitoches! The vegetables are great too. Fried okra, red beans and turnip greens are the best ever! Our waitress, Helen was awesome too!

Not being from the area, I had never heard of a "meat pie." It did not sound appetizing, but my husband chose to try it due to it being the "specialty." He said it was bland, as I thought it would be. My pasta, however, was delicious, and so were the desserts. Others around us were really eating up the meat pies, so it may have just been not our thing. Don't not try it just based on this review. Apparently it's part of the Natchitoches experience.

I stood in line for over 20 minutes at French Quarter Fest to get the Vegan Mushroom pie as advertised on the sign. When I finally got to the front I saw a smaller sign stating the mushroom pies contained Asiago cheese. The employee told me the main sign was wrong and shrugged it off. It would have been easy to tape over it with the word "vegetarian" or "NOT" vegan but instead you chose to waste people's time. Disappointing and that type of false advertising is dangerous. If I stood in the other line I likely wouldn't have seen the pie description. This mistake could kill someone with a milk allergy.

If you don't know and you happen to be on the I-49 corridor near Natchitoches, I implore you to exit the interstate and take a quick drive downtown to Lasyone's Meat Pie Restaurant. According to their website, "Lasyone's Meat Pie Restaurant is an authentic soulful Creole Cuisine experience." Founded by James Lasyone in 1967, this former butcher of 20 plus years spent years perfecting his meat pie recipe after grinding meats for his customers who were making their own pies. He opened up in 1967 and got "his first national break when the editor of" House Beautiful" magazine dropped in for a couple of meat pies in the early 1970s." The rest is history." "Chef Angela Lasyone and Tina Lasyone Smith run the kitchen and restaurant, just as it has been for over 40 years." I was headed home from Shreveport, LA and had meat pies on my brain after having heard about them from my non-Yelping Shreveport coworker (Jim N). A quick Yelp search showed me that Lasyone was the real deal. Located in downtown Natchitoches, you'll enjoy the peaceful drive from I-49 past Northwest State University and Bayou Amulet. I'm sad to say that my visit to Lasyone's was very brief, as I simply ordered a meat pie to go. But the experience was so positive that I plan on visiting Natchitoches again, with a mandatory dine-in experience at Lasyone's. My photo pf the meat pie does it no justice, as I should have shown the inside of the pie after I bit into it. The pastry shell was very nice and didn't fall apart as I tore into it. The moist meat filling was seasoned very nicely and was very fresh, as I think my pie was fried to order. Here's some free advice; order an extra one for the road, as you will thank me later. On my next trip, I also plan to try their fried crawfish pie and enjoy a leisurely dine-in experience.

Exvellent breakfast! The omelets are outstanding. And the grits are cooked to perfection. Cozy place for a nice breakfast with friends and family!

I know this place is an Institution, but I do not see how they pass any food service inspections. The food is not great. I had the meat pie and red beans and rice. The beans were flavorless and the rice was mushy and the meat pie was meh. My husband had the gumbo and the portion was big but he didn't like the gumbo either. Then I went to the restroom.....you have to walk by the kitchen and go to the back and it is just filthy everywhere. I didn't get sick and the place is packed but wow, it really needs a major makeover and cleaning. We will go someplace else when we visit next time. My suggestion would be to try meat pies someplace else if that is what you are looking for.

We were there a week ago. The place was really busy, but the service was great and the food came out in a timely manner. I had the meat pie and it was so good. The prices were right, too. No wonder it is a popular place.

Meat pies were amazing. Absolutely worth it if you have never had one. They are well known here. We tried all of them and nearly everything else on the menu. This was my first time to Louisianna so I was excited to try everything. They run out of desserts quickly so if you think you are in the mood for one, definitely grab it early in the meal. They ran out of chocolate and also the strawberry, while we were there, just over lunch. I totally wanted some but we missed the last piece by a hair. They were busy the entire time from the second we walked in until the time we left. Busy as bees! Only reason for the 4 star is that the interior is pretty rough. You have to stand in the pantry to get to the bathroom and the table, chairs, and even building probably hasn't changed in 50 year. From what I can tell...its pretty typical louisianna but as a tourist I was just surprised at the state of things. I would recommend the food, I just think its important to highlight the historic nature of this location. Tons of free parking all around the downtown area, you may just need to walk a little bit.

My husband brought me on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Natchitoches was SO busy.. Lasyone's provided amazing food. Quick (to be so packed), friendly service (even though it was VERY busy). We were very pleased with the generous portions of our meals & the plastic to-go cups were perfect to keep as we continued around town for a bit. I'm looking forward to going back! We ordered an appetizer of onion rings, a meat pie & a crawfish pie (which had a fishy taste, so we skipped it & ate the meat pie). I had shrimp & grits. My husband ordered crawfish étouffée. Everything except the onion rings was spicy!! Onion rings were perfectly fried. This is a great little date night spot & so worth the 45 minute drive for us to get there!

This was my first crawfish pie experience and it was great. The service was very friendly, and I enjoyed reading about the history of the restaurant on the walls while waiting for our food.

I don't know what happened in the last few years if there was a change in management, cooks, recipe or what but something is off and different. it's way overpriced for the meat pie. the ones that we got, two of them were overcooked and we didn't even realize it until we were down the highway and it wasn't efficient for us to turn back

This place is a gem!!! It's always on my list when I go back home. They have the best veggie plates, house breaded chicken fried steak, meat pies and gravies around!!! They have done a great job at making changes since covid happened. They have an outside Togo station set up, for those who don't feel safe eating or ordering inside. My stomach sure hates living so far away, but my waistline appreciates it. Thanks for always delivering the quality products that you do!

Maybe earlier in the day this landmark might have been better....but finding hairs in the French fries really ruined it for us. The meat & crawfish pies were "ok".
