Walking past this restaurant, we noticed a sign that said $1 tacos, so we thought why not check them out!?
We went in and were told we could sit anywhere we liked, so we grabbed a table outside. The menu is only available by scanning the QR code (which we didn't notice) and details of the taco special were on the last page. It turns out there's a minimum of 20 tacos per person, which made zero sense to me. No way I'm eating 20 tacos!
It was a beautiful sunny day and I was craving a beer, but they are not licensed so I stuck with water. Anyway, now that I'm craving tacos, I definitely have to order some! The regular price for one taco is almost $6 - which seemed high but I had to try them. We were starting to get super hungry and decided to order a bunch of things to share, starting with some ceviche and guacamole. The ceviche was very watery and almost warm, as though they cooked the seafood first, then dumped it in the sauce. Definitely not what I was expecting and I would not order that again. The guacamole was quite good - probably the best thing we ordered, actually. I liked that the chips are made in house (or at least appear to be). We were also given an order of chips and salsa, as well as a little dish of what looked like chili oil, which was way too spicy for me. The green salsa, on the other hand, was delicious! I could eat that every day.
Next, we had a chorizo quesadilla, which arrived covered in lettuce and crumbled cheese - again, not what I was expecting, but it wasn't too bad. It was similar to a calzone, with a thick dough instead of a tortilla.
Next up was a burrito and the tacos. I actually didn't try the burrito, but my friend said it was good. The tacos were really disappointing, unfortunately. We ordered the grilled shrimp, the pastor and baja fish. The shrimp was ok, but the pork was incredibly dry and crumbly. As for the baja fish taco, they forgot to finish it as it was garnished with just a single radish slice instead of the pico de gallo and salsa ranchero.
I could add a disclaimer that I cannot speak to the authenticity of the food in any way, I can only comment on what I enjoy eating and how much I liked the food.
Service was fine but there was only one server for the whole patio, so it was a bit slow. No other complaints from us regarding service.
I don't think I'd go out of my way to go back here anytime soon, but if I was in the area, I might try something else on the menu.
