Bottom line: good food, prices, and service.
Every once in a while, a brother needs some rice. Puerto Rican rice to be exact. Many failed attempts at making the Puerto Rican classic has taught me a lesson: it's better to just frigging buy it because it's not going to come out as good at home. But I'm still relatively new to Boston and I haven't found a good PR restaurant. I'd been told that JP has many worthy Latin restaurants so that's how I came across the aptly named Latino Restaurant.
As far as I can tell, Latinos is a Dominican restaurant. And, at the mid day hour I visited Latino's, it functioned as a cafeteria, with their dishes on display buffet-style. I asked them what specials they had. They told me that for $9 bucks (including tax) I could get: salad, a drink, a side dish, and a protein item. I asked them for the Puerto Rican rice (arroz con gandules) and the beef stew. A sexy-pants Dominican chick brought it out a couple of minutes later. A massive mound of rice. A bowl of the stew and a plate with a fresh side salad. The food was good and plentiful. I have no real complaints. But there was something missing in my rice. It didn't have the little bits of pork/ham that I was expecting and the beef stew didn't blow me away. So while I liked the food, and sexy-pants, I can't say I loved it. So I'm going to have to keep looking for my PR rice fix.
For what it's worth, a lot of people were coming and going while I was there so a lot of other people seem to love it. Give it a shot.
